Hare & Hounds Inn in Tameside

Me and my partner went for lunch today. We ordered the signature burger meal and fish and chips. The burger was like a big slab of fatty bland meat, frozen chips and the fish had a crispy batter on the outside but the a fat soggy layer underneath and again frozen chips. The pub itself is clean and has a lovely atmosphere and the staff were very pleasant. It’s a shame the food isn’t nice.

Ordered steak and ale pie, when it came it was cold so sent it back. Second pie came and the pastry was like cement with very little filling. To be fair, they didn’t charge me but I was out for a night with my family and they had finished eating before my second cement pie arrived, so the evening didn’t go well. Servers were very nice but the food was really poor.

Table of 6 Saturday night. Very well looked after by Ellie, all menu choices taken well and attentive service throughout our meal. We all enjoyed our food. Very pleasant Manageress when settling the bill.

Booked a table 3 days before, 6.30 pm, Tues evening,when we got there we were informed no chicken or pork dishes were available , limited food ,ordered 3 fish & chips and steak pie / chips , fish was over cooked, and pie was dry, absolutely terrible meal, won't be going again, .

Great meal today & for Monday really busy . Staff & service was top notch - food was tasty / hot & served reasonably quick . Will defo come back 👍

Staff lovely, attentive, friendly and helpful. Outlook is gorgeous with lovely views. Food was just ok, Chips were cold and steak tasteless and a bit tough. Such a shame because it is such a lovely setting.

Visited the Hare and Hounds for a Mother’s Day breakfast treat. It’s a lovely place but the adult food portions were very poor particularly the salmon and eggs very disappointing for the price.

This is such a lovely place, whether it be for a pub lunch and a drink or to sit outside and enjoy a drink whilst looking at the beautiful scenic view of Manchester. Also looks so pretty at night time with there fairylights. Definitely worth a visit.

I visited Tuesday afternoon, had a lovely steak sandwich with extra gravy and it was divine. I did not quite catch the womans name behind the bar but she was lovely and Jayden and Ellie who served our table was very good. Thank you Hare & Hounds

The young lady who served us was absolutely lovely, I think she was working on her own so she was really busy but still kept up great customer service. Food lovely as always.

Very tasty food and relaxing atmosphere. Both my wife and my first time visiting and we will definitely be back. Served by Sadie and Jaden. Service was very attentive and pleasant.

We came here to celebrate a special occasion and it ruined our evening. Firstly the toilets were disgusting. As you walk into the entrance hall you are met with a strong smell of urine. In the ladies only 1 of the three cubicles was working. When the food arrived the vegetables were tepid and the chicken had the consistency of dry shoe leather. We had to return two of the meals as they were inedible. A totally ruined evening.

My girlfriend and I had a lovely Birthday meal on the 17/03/2025. We a great time, the food cooked by Chef John was amazing and the service from Hannah was amazing too! Thank you both for making a very memorable birthday for us both. My only thing was I ordered a pint of Guinness from the bar and it didn't have a four leaf clover on the top 🍀 this would of been extra point but not essential. Thank you again Hannah and Chef John for a lovely birthday meal! We will definitely be back for other date nights!! Another thank you for the other staff, all were very welcoming!

First time ever been here ordered the food and waited for while to receive it on table service we asked for three Beef burger on a chicken burger with no bacon on it which is I have mentioned twice no bacon after awhile we have received the food on the table and finally end up with bacon on top of the chicken burger and when we give a shout to the staff and asked for the replace the food they take it inside and after literally two minute came back with the same chicken burger and removed bacon on top , Fry the same chicken burger Which is unacceptable. The chips was cooked twice and never taste good. the table uncleaned. never try again. Not really recommended to anyone.

Sunday lunch with the family. Greatwelcome, good service, wonderful food.

Excellent food. Excellent service from start to finish. Friendly helpful staff couldn't do enough for us. Highly recommended and we shall definitely be back to try more from the varied menu. I had Steak and Ale Pie and it was truly divine. Full of meat, the right amount of gravy and the crust exactly how I like it.

Great place to stop by. Wonderful sights. Loved it !

Great service. It was busy, so there was quite a long wait for food. My son really enjoyed his meal ( hence the 4 stars ) but I was less happy. Perhaps I just chose the wrong main course.

Had a Sunday here to watch the sunset, service was top tier from Georgia. She was incredibly helpful and looked after the table, would return so long as it’s in Georgias shift!

Average food toilets dirty and stank of ammonia lack of staff so long waiting times very unispired.

Had a terrific pub lunch here on Monday 10th March 2025, great food and good beer, accompanied by a friend who lives locally and thankfully didn’t make me walk up the hill. Must be lovely as the weather gets better and you can take in the view. Thanks to Jodie, Hannah and John.

The views here are off the chain; you can see the whole Manchester skyline. Lovely beer garden, nice and cosy inside too. Top real ales on tap served by friendly staff. I only had bar snacks here but the food I did have was great.

Liked it here until the young dark haired girl with an attitude problem on a power trip made us move out of the “restaurant area”. There was no one there when we walked into the seating area and it was quiet so didn’t see the problem until she came over like “you alright? This is the restaurant area”. I looked around at the empty seating area and said “yeah we are eating thanks” and she turned her back on me saying “err do you have a booking??” The place was empty, come on have some awareness! And there was no staff there when we arrived to the area, so the attitude was not needed. We moved seats anyway, not that she acknowledged it. She then spent the whole time stood behind the bar gossiping. Ruined our experience sadly. Everyone else was nice enough but she was really rude. We were also told that they don’t serve food outside but then saw people eating outside? Weird.

Great service by Georgia, she was very attentive and flexible to our needs as we were a little demanding! Food was good, atmosphere good, would recommend.

Came in with my wife, son and dog on a Wednesday evening. I’m not sure if I said something to offend the lady behind the bar but I found her very unwelcoming and dismissive. I can’t comment on the food as we decided it would be better if we ate elsewhere.

Travel Notice....Very steep and narrow road up from Hyde (eastern approach), probably easier from Romiley. But on a clear sunny day leaning on the fence opposite the pub ....you get wonderful panoramic views across to Stockport and Manchester beyond. Peaceful setting if it's not a busy day.

My husband and I love coming here with our dog angel. Never had a bad experience, the staff and food is great. Although Georgia wasn't happy that we came in for breakfast without angel. Still delivered excellent service despite her disappointment with not getting to see angel. We will for sure rectify this soon.

Only coming on Thursdays now.. 🤓 Cal, …the pork belly was stunning, Thank you so much. The flavours within each vegetable also was ‘oh my word’ truly, hats off to you 🫶🏻 ..I’ll be ordering the same next Thursday 😅 Diane & Georgia were lovely, cheerful & very attentive towards us & our circumstances. Lovely lunch after a walk. Food fresh and well made by Cal today's chef. Service was 2nd to none by Diane, who is a credit to the company, very friendly, helpful and efficient.

Visited the H&H after taking some time out after I personally felt standards had dropped a few years back… pleased to say that it was a great experience and will be heading back again this week! Lovely meal as always. Great place to have food and drink. I’ve come up here with my best mate and family before and we always have a great time and we are always looked after. On a recent trip we were served by Hannah and she looked after us so well. She was really kind and made us feel at home. Great service as always.

Had lunch on Saturday and was served by Rhian. She was very helpful and friendly. Came to check everything was ok with every course. Excellent meal prepared by John. Very well presented. Jaden was friendly when he seated us and brought our drinks.

I love it here, staff always friendly, food always great and it's always busy. Love that i can take my pooch along, we go more for that reason.

Meal out with my boyfriend, The service was fantastic from start to finish & the food was outstanding. I had the venison off the specials menu & my other half had belly pork both were delicious.

31.01.25 Went for something to eat for a Friday night treat. So disappointed. Fish & chips. Small tasteless fish and 12 chips is hardly a portion. Midland in Marple Bridge, better value, better food, better portion size, better atmosphere. Last time we are at Hare and Hounds place was freezing along with the food. This was their last chance to prove us wrong & it was just awful.We wong go back.

I went with a very close friend to have a meal and I couldn't fault the place. The ambience was perfect and the view is lovely even though the rain was beating down and the food is excellent. I would recommend this place to anyone. Also special mention to Diane who served us today she was delightful and compliments to chef Liam. First class.

Food is always spot on however there's numerous times where stuff isn't available on the menu. That's the only let down.

I had Sunday dinner with my family on Sunday . Great service, food well presented and amazing! The lady who attended our table was Sadie I think, bubbly polite made us feel very welcome would highly recommend but make sure you book in advance. And the views are great !

Came on Sunday a group of four. Two of us had steak. It was impossible to cut the fat off as both steaks were full of it. Service was good. I would come back for a beer as the location was lovely. Unfortunately you only get one chance with food, so wouldn't eat here again. Please have a word with your butcher, if he keeps supplying this quality of steak you will lose business.

It’s our favourite pub to treat ourselves too every month. It’s always got a lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and the food is always delicious.

I must admit the rest of our group had a lovely meal but I'm afraid I went mad and had a sirloin steak cooked medium and it was tuff very disappointed. Didn't say anything because everyone else enjoyed there meal.

Me and my partner have been a few times & never had any issues with being seated, the food has always been lovely & we come here regularly as it’s one of our favourite places. However, we visited there tonight, waited a while for someone to serve us as nobody was at the desk, we then asked politely what time food was served until and were told we would only be able to dine if we had booked a table, there was only one table occupied within the food area & it was clear there would have been a table available for me & my partner to eat. We then had to leave the pub and were not offered any sincere apologies or alternatives. We were very disappointed with this as we didn’t expect to have to book on a Wednesday night and it was also clear there was enough availability for us to be able to be served.

Mike and georgia was brilliant, very helpful and lovely, food was lovely all came out at the same time, great service will deffo come back :)

First time back for quite a few years and we weren't disappointed. Welcome warm and friendly. We didn't wait long to be served with our drinks and order taken soon after. The choice was great!! I had chicken with roast new potatoes with carrot and pepper puree,delicious,my husband had the fish and chips, he also really enjoyed it. Followed by apple tart,with ice cream ,hubby had sticky toffee pudding😋. The views are fabulous, it had been a really snowy frosty week,so everywhere looked stunning, we will be definitely back ,the only small thing was the bread was a bit too thick and the butter wouldnt spread because it was too cold. Thanks for a lovely afternoon out !!

Nicole was exceptional - informative and kind , great pub and excellent portion sizes . Though we over ordered , couldn’t recommend enough based on the brilliant server and food.

Food was good. Service from Sadie and the team was excellent from the moment we arrived and we were put in a little area where other kids were too - which worked nicely. Somewhere we come fairly often living fairly close by - will be back!

We had won breakfast for 4 people in a local raffle. Breakfast was lovely: great choice, tastes good and was hot. We were asked immediately if we had any allergies and we weren't rushed.

We, I went two have a meal here for my wife's birthday yesterday 29th dec. We have been a few times in the past, and it has always been excellent. Yesterday was probably our most enjoyable. I have food allergies, and they, I've always been very accommodating. The staff are always helpful and extremely polite. Paige was our waitress and she is very helpful and cheerful. Reece what's our chef? And the food was amazing. It was a perfect evening for my wife's birthday.

Had xmas dinner here with my wife and father in law to be honest after the disaster we had the year before at a eatery I won’t mention I was a bit wary but from the minute I got in things changed it wasn’t over crowded and the team were superb nothing too much trouble the food was exceptional and plenty of it too they even boxed what we left so I could have after work next day hopefully try go here again next year thanks everyone who made our Xmas dinner special

We had a family Xmas dinner on Xmas day. Service was brilliant. Atmosphere great. My only niggle was I ordered Steak, medium rare and it was a bit overcooked. Apart from that absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for making our day special

Service was excellent as was the whole experience. I live locally and have always found this place an ideal spot to bring a guest for a nice evening out. Ok back to the meal. It's was fine but not to the usual standard it's offered previously on many occasions. There was about 20% capacity eating so it wasn't busy. Steak and Ale pie with veg and chips was my choice. Steak pie lovely. Good size, Very tasty and very filling. Chips were either over cooked or part cooked then reheated or something else but they were not fresh tasting at all and I only ate them mixed in with the pie. Veg was like rubber..I bit into the broccoli and I could not bite through..now part cooked is crunchy. Well cooked is soft so what made it rubbery I don't know. I didn't bother eating any of it. I have to be as honest here as possible and I don't like to say it but I could have had nicer chips and veg in a cafe. The pie was great but that was lost in the rest of the plate. Also the coffee machine wasn't working but I still couldn't have a cup of instant. I had to have tea which was ok but maybe keep a jar of decent coffee just in case. 👍 Sorry for this but reviews should be honest and I've left it a week to think about what to write. I was asked to review by the staff so I'm not doing this to spite anyone and I hope this was a one off. Maybe short staffed in the kitchen and was rushed. I will still eat here and come for an evening out. It's not put me off at all.

Delightful first time at The Hare and Hounds for a family meal. Plentiful and well cooked food prepared by Chef Sam and fantastic, attentive service from the lovely Georgia for whom nothing was too much trouble. Would throughly recommend this pub. Second visit and the excellent Rhian and Chef Cal looked after us today. Fab meal once again

I’ve been coming here for years and have seen it change hands plenty of times and the many reinventions of itself, some good, some bad, though the view always being the draw. This latest redesign and change of management has been a positive one! The design is fit for a pub that once had Eric Cantona take in the views with a pint (albeit before the glow up), he needs to be invited back to enjoy the view whilst sat in the new outdoor seating area! The staff are friendly and welcoming, very accommodating and it does enhance the atmosphere to no end. I’ve ate at the restaurant many, many times of over the years and never more so than since the change over. The food is fantastic and truly worth the price (which is pretty average pricing in a gastro-pub these days) and each time I’ve felt full and really enjoyed my meal. On Saturday I am bringing my extended family for our yearly tradition of a meal at H&H on The Low, and this is the first time in a number of years I am feeling confident that they will really enjoy the whole experience and not just the view…which is pretty spectacular in its own right! Keep up the great work!

Fantastic meal! Amazing burger and everyone else’s food was fanastatic. Rhian was so helpful and couldn’t have been better with any allergies at the table!

We have been there 3 times, and it was, generally ok. We liked the salads with fresh homegrown green shoots made by the Chef. Last visit was nearer to Xmax and the meat was dry and dull-tasting. There were no salads in the menu, only the horrible "traditional Xmas" dishes - british cuisine at its worst.

Thanks to Hannah and Nicole. Lovely meal, staff were very friendly and nice conversation. Will be coming again :)

went in the other day and i was served by georgia. she was so lovely and was welcoming. she’d checked up on me and my mum during our food and was overall so lovely. she gave me and my mum some good recommendations on the menu and had a good little chat. i would highly recommend giving that girl a pay rise or even a management role.
