Magnificent cosy and unsoiled Sam Smith’s pub. Temporarily closed from July 2024 as landlord has taken over the Bay Horse in Tadcaster.

I stumbled across this little gem of a pub yesterday and what a great find! I went with my Mum, sister and cousins for a wee post Christmas catch up and we all absolutely loved it. Firstly we there were 2 super cosy real fires and we could have a conversation without having to shout to at each other. The food was fantastic and the booze seriously well priced. My mum had the macaroni cheese and she loved it....she's extremely fussy, so it really must have been good. I had the fish goujons and they were equally delicious. The staff were amazing, Jackie served us and was quite possibly the friendliest person I've been served by and Jon was the jolliest of bar men. I'll definitely be back and think we'll try a roast the next time. Most definitely looking forward to visiting this cute little pub again!

A very nice clean pub and a nice friendly welcome. We booked a table and enjoyed a delicious meal. Menu was adequate. Certainly would recommend Hare & Hounds. The only issue is the pub only takes cash! Not ideal, but we managed. Sam Smiths need to change that and be in the 21st century like the majority of pub restaurants.

We haven't been able to get together as a group for the last two years and so we're delighted to have had our first reunion over Sunday lunch at the Hare & Hounds in Stutton. Excellent choice it was too - we were made very welcome by all the bar and kitchen team and enjoyed excellent range of Pork, Turkey and Beef roasts all washed down with traditional Sam Smiths beers. Who knew that three hours could pass so convivially? Many thanks to everyone concerned and we look forward to meeting up again in summer when hopefully we will be able to use the delightful gardens. Called in this pub after doing a local walk from an old pub walks book. A very old stone building. Really authentic, exposed stone interior, open fires and good quality old style furniture and nice wood paneling on bar. Very tidy inside. Had lunch which was standard pub grub but very nice, very hot, nicely presented and reasonably priced. I had the gammon and when I asked for mustard they gave me colmans - what a great result, the number of pubs that provide silly little packets of heinze is disappointing, well done hare and hounds as colmans makes the meal for me. Also a Sam smiths pub. Worth a visit and I would return if in the area.

Trying to find a pub that was open today, after doing the excellent Towton Battlefield Walk was turning into a right old game. We came by this pub by accident, and what a find. A lovely old place, with incredibly friendly staff and a really warm welcome. Steak and Ale pie for me, and my Sister had Chicken and Leek, it was fab, with lovely veg and chips. Couldn't fault it at all. I only had a soft drink as I was driving, but the bar looked to have some decent beers and spirits on show. Just one thing to remember about visiting here. Sam Smiths pubs only take cash, and mobile phone use is strictly banned, hence no photos. The pub also has a very large beer garden, and I can imagine the place does really well in the summer months. Well worth a visit, and once again, so glad we found it on an otherwise no pub Monday. It deserves to do well.

This is not the kind of place you just stumble on. Only found it because of Google maps. This is a Samuel smiths pub, so remember Cash only. Nice and warm welcome from both the landlord and the chef. The menu was a classic pub menu and not badly priced. I had the liver and onions partner had hunters chicken. These were nothing out of the ordinary typical large corporate plated meals.

This is a great pub. The food is varied and reasonably priced. Lots of things to choose from. The beer is nice and fresh. The staff are lovely. The drink is cheap. It has a massive beer garden. You have a wide variety of drink to choose from. On Sunday there is a pub quiz. They have a break in the middle where you can get a snack and drink. It is a really lively and fun pub.

Popped in for lunch with family. We were seated quickly and a drinks order was taken. The food order was taken promptly each of us ordering a different thing. A veggie pie, a steak & ale pie, a steak & kidney pie, gammon and a chilli con carne. All five were piping hot when served and the plates were cleared.. The service was good and the staff friendly plus the prices are very reasonable.

We wanted a reasonable lunch in a country pub and that's exactly what we got here in the lovely village of Stutton. There was a reasonable, accessible car park and being a Sam Smith's pub there was an excellent range of beers and a welcome lack of background music. The range of food was limited, but what they do they do very well indeed. Our order was brought very promptly by the cheery barman. I had liver and onions in a very rich gravy and thoroughly enjoyed it. The onions were just a little too firm but I recognise this is a personal preference and not a criticism of the cooking. Prices were very reasonable indeed, typical of Sam Smith's philosophy of providing excellent quality and value.

We took our grandsons for lunch last week. My husband ordered the fish n chips, I had the gammon, my oldest grandson had the adults burger, and the youngest kiddies fish n chips, everything was cooked to perfection 4 clean plates, apparently the best burger my grandson has ever had. I highly recommend you to go and try Kevin's lovely cooking.

Been coming here over the past 7 years whenever I am in the Selby area. Always a warm welcome and always a top notch curry. Personal favorites include the Methi Gost, Naga Delight and a good old Madras. Only thing the restaurant would benefit from would be not to have such bright lighting, dim the lights and create a warmer atmosphere, other than that, absolutely spot on.
