Good value for money lovely setting great service

They managed to squeeze us two in without booking on a Sunday lunch. As I was driving back to Sheffield I enjoyed a glass of low alcohol Old Speckled Hen with my superb and very filling beef roast. My wife had a similarly excellent chicken meal. Plenty of veg and a giant Yorkshire pudding. Lovely staff. Nice atmosphere too. Thoroughly recommended.

Booked weeks in advance to celebrate mum’s birthday. Requested to be sat in the conservatory where it was a nicer atmosphere and they said sure, will be done. The lady on the phone was impatient, obviously in a hurry to hang up even though I had called during the afternoon downtime, and I should have realised this was a red flag. Turned up on the day but no staff seemed interested in seating us. After getting one of the older lady staff member’s attention (manager maybe?), she could not find my reservation and started to question if I even booked. I had to insist and recount the phone conversation to her to prove it. As I persisted she eventually found our reservation one page over in her book (what a surprise) and gave us a table by the door. I asked to be moved to the conservatory as there was a free table with no reserved sign and I had been assured on the phone that our request had been noted. I had told them that it was after all a birthday meal otherwise I wouldn’t be picky normally. Lady replied rather rudely that I should ignore whatever table I can see and just go sit where she’s put us. It was a small and busy spot to sit and the food was mediocre - we had eaten here before and it seems the standards have really slipped since. Wouldn’t be back anytime soon. If I see that older lady staff member at the counter I’ll probably just turn around and eat somewhere else. Prices are high for a pub, and notably higher than other pubs in the area so the service and food was unjustifiably bad. Also if you want to bring a birthday cake you will be charged £15 so we did not even attempt this.

Excellent Sunday lunch. Parfait starter and roast beef were amazing. Nut roast was good. Roast potatoes with the nut roast were overdone. Maybe just unlucky on the serving. They were solid crisp more than roast potato. Potatoes with beef and everything else was perfect.

We had a lovely lunch. The chicken club sandwich and the roast beef sandwiches were great.

I have used The Hare for the past three years since moving to Norfolk. The pub has a warm and welcoming atmosphere along with a good ambience. The staff are polite, courteous and efficient and ably led by Ria and well supported by Nicola and Tara. The food is of the highest quality whether just a snack or a full dinner and good value for money. Highly recommend.

Called in for lunch. Smashing pub, great staff and a good varied menu. Pork belly delicious as was the cod with lemon butter.

Having eaten at the restaurant previously, this last meal was a let down. The roast potatoes were burnt and the meal not very hot.

Gluten free menu available. Had haddock and chips, fish was enormous. Good place to eat. May be easier to book but we have just turned up, twice and been ok.

I had lunch here yesterday and sitting by the window there was a long light made of metal and three globes in length. As I sat at the table leaning down I whacked my head on the corner of the light and cut my head. It hurt. My friend I was lunching with also whacked his head sitting down. He also bled. The manager came over and we asked why would you put such a large light so low over this table to be a health hazard. She replied we do warn people as it happens often. Well we got no warning and as we left the pub we hit our head again as we stood to leave. They could not care less. The manager thought it amusing and I was very disappointed in her lack of care or concern. Another table of diners said ouch that would have hurt badly. How ridiculous they put that light there so low. The other diners were more concerned than the staff at the Hare. The food was disappointing to say the least and I will never revisit or recommend The Hare .. If it was an old couple sitting at this table it would be very dangerous. Shame on the pub finding it amusing and not showing any care or concern by staying away.

Great Sunday Roast and dessert with a pint of IPA

The food was very good, had fish and chips which were delicious. Lovely old pub with lots of character and peacocks in the garden. Well worth a visit.

Our go to Pub/ Restaurant when back in the UK. My son and myself have enjoyed The Hare for many years and food and drinks are always spot on. Always a pleasure to catch up with Pat & Deb, fantastic hosts that have been doing this for a long time now. Look forward to our next visit. All the best. Sam & Edward

Just had the most amazing meal for mothers day with family. Food and service were excellent. Dropped in to what seemed like a friendly pub for a quick drink, we were greeted reluctantly by staff members who wouldn't allow us to sit at one of the available bar tables (no reserved signs) probably hoping to seat people who intend to eat & spend more money. Waiter advised we could sit outside for a drink which we didn't mind, took drinks order and told us he would bring out. He then came out and told us couldn't bring drinks can we go and get them. All together unorganised and not welcoming. Probably OK if you book a table and intend to eat but if you just want a drink.. told to jog on basically.

Food took a while but it was New Years Eve and absolutely packed, so no issues there. Warm pub with log fires. Food portions are absolutely massive and very good quality. Catered easily for our relatively big group.

Just went for a drink with friends. Very pleasant pub, it was crowded with people eating, so the food must be good, but it was nice to sit in a traditional pub with no music or sports on tv.

We booked a lunch table for 10. As always it was a brilliant for me and the other 9 diners. I asked everyone in our party and they all agreed it was a great meal. Excellent staff, friendly and attentive. Definitely will continue to call this my favourite local place to eat!

We found this place by chance, the girls were hungry and needed that urge you get when travelling. I spotted the sign on the road and did an immediate left turn.. What a find. Easy parking. Entered the pub to a busy little bar and net by a silibg member of staff serving food. Went to the bar while the girls made a visit and met by another smiling member of staff. Menus appeared, girls returned and we took a table. Girls ordered soup of the day and were impressed. I ordered a buttered chicken burger that far exceeded my expectations. With open log fires and staff that seemed happy in their work it was cosy, comfortable and welcoming and we will not talk about the peacock walking past the pub as though he owned it followed a few minutes later by the geese! Loved it and will certainly stop in again when passing.

Booked Sunday lunch as a last minute decision. Place was full which says a lot. The roast beef was amazing and far too much for me to consume. Very reasonably priced and would definitely recommend.

Great menu choices and good customer service. Lots of beer choices, and nice seating inside with plenty of space. It's in a stunning location and ideal for sitting outside in good weather as garden area behind the pub is lovely. Pub pets are great too.

Nice looking building,good welcome, really good choice menu,with specials as well,would say some things,to much on plate,but was all hot,fairly busy for a Wednesday night,loved the Pecocks in the garden.No dogs aloud in any part of building.

Popped into this delightful pub for lunch today on the recommendation of a work colleague. Well he wasn't wrong. Great pub, attentive staff, good selection of lagers and ales, and above all, awesome food. I had the beef burger and the only downside to it was that i couldn't finish it. There was that much on the plate and it was absolutely gorgeous. Will definitely be returning to try more from the fabulous menu.

Called in spur of the moment for a bite to eat. Lovely pub, with lots of character. The food was lovely! Served hot, plenty of flavour and portion size was perfect. I had the red pepper and mozzarella stuffed chicken breast in parma ham. The sauce that came with it was delicious. Will definitely be coming back again in the not so distant future

Called in on the off chance last Saturday lunchtime and were greeted by a very polite, smart and friendly staff member, we ordered drinks and took our table and then our order was taken, the food arrived promptly and looked amazing. My partner had the Beef Burger which she described as being one of the best she had ever had and I had the beef ribs, which were exceptional, so much meat and oh so very very tasty. We are very much looking forward to a return visit to this wonderful, welcoming establishment.

Lovely garden Peacocks.. Relaxing afternoon drinks..

Our second visit., but never again. Fish was overcooked. Chips very poor. Obviously pre cooked and kept warm.

Once shown to our booked table, we were very much looked after by attentive staff and the food was faultless. We all enjoyed our meals and all thought that it was good value for money. Whilst other reviewers have commented on the high prices, I would say that they are very reasonable and reflective of the high-quality food. I would definitely return based on this. Once we had mains, desserts, coffees and additional drinks, it became awkwardly apparent that the staff were all quite desperate to get home. And at 10.50pm on a Saturday evening, we were abruptly shuffled out into a dark carpark after being told, keys in hand, that they were now closing. It was an unnecessarily awkward end to what had otherwise been a lovely evening. I would definitely return for the quality food on offer but if I wanted top customer experience feeling as if my custom was valued, I would head to Jack's instead.

We phoned and someone answered quickly unlike many others, a polite chat and a table booked, when we got here it was quite busy which was a good sign and parking is tight. We had the Camembert sharer which was excellent and enough bread to see us to the end (10/10), Slow cooked ribs for main, we got 2 ribs and they did taste excellent but was disappointed by the amount of actual meat, each ribs was about 25% meat the rest is bone and fat. The strawberry cheese cake desert was excellent. We had 1 large gin & tonic, 1 Pims, 1 pint soda water/lime, 3 courses came to £80, we gave £10 tip. The service from all the staff was excellent and extremely helpful, overall very nice and we would return but not sure if we would have the ribs, 3 ribs would have been better. Definitely worth a visit.

3 out of 4 of us had the burger. 1 thought it was the best burger he had ever had, the other 2 also enjoyed the burger. Unfortunately the 4th member of the group had rib of beef which was fatty and came with too much sauce which made the chips soggy. This is not our first visit and normally the food is of a very high quality so this won't put us off returning. Price wise though was a bit top heavy @ just under £17 for a burger is really top end.

Wonderful pub - top marks all round. We were a group of 25 (adults and children) and searching for somewhere which could accommodate us for a Saturday lunch at the last minute and they were able to fit us in with less than 48 hours notice. We had the whole Coach House to ourselves and was perfect for a group of our size, full of atmosphere with the right amount of privacy. Food was lovely, staff were friendly and overall ambience/aesthetic was really cosy. Would definitely recommend, particularly if looking for a private room.

Happened to be passing and called in for some lunch. The food was excellent, the staff were very attentive and the place had a really nice friendly atmosphere.

Have been to this lovely pub/restaurant in this gorgeous, picturesque Norfolk village, and had two great meals with friends. However my wife and I went there recently and I had the worst meal that I have almost ever had. The fish as a main was cold and completely tasteless and I left more than half of it with no response from the waitress to my almost full plate when she came to clear. Thought I would make up for it with my favourite bread and butter pudding but alas, the bread was like cardboard and, apart from the banana slices (in a b and b pudding?!) there were what looked and tasted like mushrooms in there as well. Shame really as the staff are very nice and cheery and I can only put this down as a one off bad day "in the office" but we will be back as I believe in 2nd chances!

We were greeted very warmly on arrival by the lovely Faye who let me test a small amount of two different wines by the glass.. to help me in my decision! Thank you 🙏

Great Sunday roast, friendly staff, and a peacock out front to boot!

This is a lovely original example of an old Agricultural Estate Inn. It is easy to imagine all the past farm workers and villagers of Stow Bardolph gathering together on harvest evenings for a pint and a pie and a pickled egg. The garden peacocks are lovely and noisy which all adds to the atmosphere. Great food, great real ales and lovely service. Fine log fires in colder months. A real gem of Norfolk country life!

We drove here from Norwich to meet with friends. We had reserved a table and when we arrived a member of staff quickly escorted us to a table. They then left us alone for a while to choose what we would eat. When we did order we each ordered different food and when it arrived we enjoyed it. I would go again. Update. 21/4/23. We went back. It was good

Tasty food and good pricing. We were a table of 4 and had mushrooms and crispy beef as starters which was tasty. And then 3 of us actually had the burger for main and we had a short rib too at the table which was a huge portion!! It was lunchtime and the portions were fantastic Would highly recommend and return myself

A delicious lunch today (Camembert, Pork and Cheesecake) all at extremely good prices. Staff polite and friendly and I loved the old advertising signs too. I only wish we were a little nearer to you :) Highly recommended

Warm and friendly... large carpark near church and gardens.

We had a great time. The place itself has been renovated and still got old world style. Food was very good and the service excellent. Hadn't been before unlike some of our group and will definitely go again.

I hadn't been here for years; my previous visit was not a positive experience, with staff being very unfriendly. This time, I found my meal to be excellent in its' taste and presentation, although there wasn't enough vegetables for my liking. However, one of my friends had a pan fried fish dish, also containing prawns. She said it was cold and when she sliced into the fish found it to be raw. The waitress apologised, took her meal away and she had to wait some time before her plate was returned. The fish was then cooked and hot, she had been given a fresh garnish, but the same vegetables and these were now cold. So for three friends having a catch up but not actually being able to eat together, it was very poor. There was no further apology, no offer of a free coffee or dessert, nothing. Since it was part cooked fish and prawns it could've made my friend ill. The staff were indifferent and seemed to prefer chatting at the bar than caring for their customers. We won't be going back!
