Hardwok Streetly in Walsall

Local takeaway we haven’t used for a long time. Decided to order a very common dish - chicken curry and rice. After waiting 45 mins it was delivered warm, there was plenty of it but the curry had started to congeal and really wasn’t up to scratch. Not sure we would use them again and reading the reviews it sounds like they’re not bothered what people have got to say anyway.

Really disappointing ordered food for my mums 82nd birthday most of it ended up in the bin 😢 dry tasteless rubbery food.. called to complain and got a rude man who said that’s the way they always cook the food. Prawn chow mein had 4 prawns in it! Beef chow mein really rubbery.. do not order from here!

Ordered a takeaway, absolutely disgusting, a big long hair in the omelette it made me sick, I rang to complain and they offered my a discount off my next order!!!! Are they kidding! I would never ever ever have anything from this vile place again

Pre Ordered on a busy night. The food arrived on time and was delightful. Best chinese in the area and is now our new regular.

Absolutely disgusting!! Disgusting food, disgusting service. We were given cold rice and then the worker decided to argue with me. The sweet and sour chicken tasted as if it was previously cooked and then reheated in the microwave. The batter was soft as hell and falling off. TRASH ! Don’t waste your money ! what topped it off is how they manage to take our order cook the food and teleport to us in less than 20 minutes. A good Chinese you’re waiting at least 45 minutes.

Food for our takeaway was well cooked and tasty. There was plenty of it with our choice of meals for four.

Delicious Chinese food, very friendly service and a reasonable price. Shop is very clean, I see people commenting on hygiene ratings but that could be down to something little such as paperwork or a language barrier. The food is good, the shop appears clean and I will continue to use.

Used several times in the past but thankfully stopped using over a year ago. I say thankfully as I have just seen their updated hygeine rating of 1!!! This is from September 2022 so as up to date as can be. They have obviously let things slip as I'm sure they were a 5 when we used them. No food provider should be allowed to trade once they've been caught performing so badly. New management required

Ordered at 5.30pm, told meal would arrive at 6.20pm, didn't arrive till 7pm. Meal was very cool - had to put in microwave. Rang up to complain and was told a takeway by nature could be cold (I have used this takeaway for at least 10 years - it has never been cold before). The receptonist said all he could do was refund my money and put the phone down. I realised I had paid the delivery chap by cash and I gave him a tip!!!. I don't think I shall ever see a refund unless it is pushed through my door (as if). But there is one thing certain I shall never order from Hardwok chinese takeaway again.

Always loved the food but the service has really dropped to the point where we will look elsewhere! Deliveries very much over described times and on several occasions not full delivery! Missing items ruins meals and no apologies forthcoming when you end up with cold food due to delivery errors! Really disappointed to have to write this! ☹️☹️

Thank you Johnny and team. The crispy duck, julliem spare ribs and chips were to die for. Didn't need the extra pancakes for the duck and the spring onions had no stalky bits on. Rare. 20/10.

We ordered from here today. Phone was constantly engaged so we went in & ordered. They were incredibly busy so a 20 min wait was actually a 30 min wait. We ordered Singapore noodles - ok, not much taste; crispy chilli shredded beef - ok, crispy but not much spice; chicken fried rice - bland; salt & pepper chips - ok & prawn toast - ok. Overall the food was just ok, I’ve had a lot better. Would I go back - no!

Tried in vain to order over the phone, ordered over the counter and told 20 minutes, waited in the car and after 20 minutes went up to told be told not long, 40 minutes later standing out in the cold. Got home and wrong order, could not get through on phone to let them know of their error. Ate what came and prawn crackers had an awful garlic taste, chicken was dry and £25 for not what he paid for. Ended up in the bin. Will not be using again.

Best Chinese in Sutton Coldfield! Had it now for around 3 years. Prices are good, food is fantastic, and the guy who answers the phone is a comedian. Always answers by saying "Hardwok Streeeeetlyyy" and knows who I am straight away (must use a CRM system). If you haven't tried this Chinese, you're missing out - all our friends and family we have round for Chinese LOVE it. P.S - try their Salt and Pepper Chips!

I would just like to say we've tried so many Chinese takeaways around Sutton Coldfield most of the times being pretty disappointed. All I can say is the Hard wok is first class We'll done we shall be definitely using again.

Very disappointing, food was bland, so fed it to the birds.

Exceptionally great food. Been to quite a few other places in the Sutton Coldfield area and by far this place tops them bar none. I ordered the beef with black bean sauce (upgraded with fillet steak), egg fried rice and vegetable chow mien. Great food and friendly staff.

The food here is consistently of a high standard. However, recent price increases mean it's no longer the great value it once was? Highly recommend paying the extra to go large! Chicken and mushroom curry is my favourite & importantly I'm never disappointed.

Tried here last year as Jasmine House was unexpectedly closed. The meal then was very enjoyable. However, Saturday's was a different story. Fillet steak was tough. Sweet and sour chicken cantonese style was large cubes of chicken in a thick batter. The meat was dry and chewy, batter more suited to the sweet and sour balls. Prawns were tasteless. Chips also dry. Prices have also increased and not by small amounts, some by £1 per dish when compared to last year's menu. If the guy who answers the phone is the owner, then he needs to concentrate more on food quality and less on the joking around!

Very disappointed with the food from here. This was my first time ordering from this take away. Delivery in terms of time was good but the food was very, very, poor in terms of taste. We ended up ordering from another Chinese restaurant which was a lot better and also better value for money. On top of all the above - and probably the worst thing about the food I ordered from this takeaway - my food also had a piece of red plastic in it ( as you can see from the picture, hopefully), which I nearly swallowed.. urgh (looks like a plastic tie for a bag of some sort). Never again.

Outstanding food, nothing is a problem. The menu is extensive and caters for all tastes. The front of house staff are both very jovial and I'm sure to get take out from there whenever I'm in town. A takeaway that's been there for twenty years must be doing something right.

Didn't get to taste anything phoned up to make an order and was told they don't deliver to me I live exactly 1.9 miles away ..5 mins in a car ....guess you have to live on there doorstep..in that case I would fetch it myself ..

Amazing food but what a horrible little man

Our neighbours recommended this place to us, we are die hard evergreen customers but thought we’d give it a go. Sweet and sour chicken balls were like nothing Iv ever seen. Nugget sized chunks of chicken, very lightly floured and fried. Nothing like how a batter ball should be. Very dry and chicken inside was sub standard. So much so my 4 year old refused to eat it as once he’d bitten inside it was veiny and dark red. Chow mein arrived in vermicelli form which was wrong and again meat inside was dry and chewy, was advised this came spicy and really wasn’t. Was very salty. Rice was same as anywhere. Beef curry was same as anywhere, had no peas which is a bonus for me but beef was stringy and chewy. Chips were hard and greasy. Jill luen chicken was the exact same chicken as the sweet and sour batter balls but refried with onion and spring onion. Again was told it’s spicy but was not. Was very dry and chicken was sub standard again. The only food that didn’t go in the bin was the prawn crackers which the kids nailed while I made them another dinner. 😕 Safe to say we are still die hard evergreen customers and now we know never to take food recommendations off the neighbours 😂

I wasn't happy with what I got. It was like it had been there a while and it was bland and old. While waiting. A guy came in drunk from the pub next door he was scratching his crotch then shook the hand of th owner over the counter like they were best friends. Not a good advert.

Great variety of food, good service, & when we had a birthday celebration, they went to town! We’d bought a cake, yet they lit candles for it, turned out the lights, put on some music & all sang! A lovely touch!

Great food as always, but our last few orders it’s been cash on delivery. So been going out to get the cash to pay for the order . Seems to make the point of home delivery a waste of time .

First time using their delivery order thru telephone. Food is great and i would recommend them. Spicy, tasty and well cooked. Call at 5.30pm to order on a Sunday. Did take over an hour 10 Min to get it delivered which they did mentioned. Don't know the exact price for delivery charge cos they sort of round up to £30. Spent £28.40. they didn't mention on the menu how much is the delivery costs. So I presume it is depend. Anyway I want to pay by card, was told cash only. Their menu written they accept card but maybe is for people who buy in their shop. That why mark down it.

Does he even answer his phones?! The most useless chinease delivery ever, never answers. Always more than a hour to deliver. Terrible!

Best Chinese take away in the area by far. Delivery a better option as they don't appear to start cooking the food until you arrive god a collection, so usually a lengthy wait. High quality good, chicken and steak dishes great. Starters ribs, yum dung are great. Don't try any of the others in Streetly this is by far the best!

Great food at the hardwok streetwey, really tasty and fresh the owner is superb, a great happy guy and a pleasure to deal with, however when it comes to deliveries this place is about as effective as a one legged cat trying to bury a turd on a frozen lake.

I’ve been a customer for over 17 years. I usually opt to collect and there delivery service is a disaster. Ordered at 7.30 was told within the hour. Called back at the 1.5 hour point to be told it’s out with the driver. Finally turned up 1 hour 45 mind after ordering.

Johny' s always friendly and I haven't had a bad meal yet. Recommend yuk sung, spare ribs and special chow mein.

When ever we want Chinese we come here the food is great no faults at all however it is quite expensive for the food you get.

Always busy but always a good meal. Only gripe, when it's busy ( Jon ) the owner doesn't always answer the phone so it can take ages to get through, on Saturdays especially, so order early!! Probably have a meal from here about 1-2 times a month.

Después de la última revisión, en donde la comida era muy tarde. Pensamos que les daría una ventaja al pedir nuestra entrega a las 5:30 de la noche. Nos dijo que el objetivo de llegar lo más cerca a las 9:00 pm posible, pero no después. Así que les dan una 3 horas y media de ventaja que pensamos que iba a trabajar. La comida se hizo aquí justo antes de las 10:00 pm.

Food is great. However, despite ordering over the phone we had a long wait for a collection. Huge order, lemon chicken sauce was missing, back home by the time we realised so went without. Very busy and popular.

Appalling experience, appalling service. We didn't get half the food we ordered & "Johnny" the owner just didn't care,thought it was a joke & refused to refund. Very poor customer service

Shocking now i will speak to a higher authority and it will not be the Brewery.Toilets absolutely disgusting if you are unfortunate to sit by them the smell would make you leave let alone eat a meal by them where they have re arranged the tables. Unless you want a drink avoid this place at all costs as many regulars now do.

Recommended by good friends as we don't have a good local Chinese anymore.Crunchy vegetables tasty sauces and no MSG poisoning afterwards. Loved everything about each different dish we tried. My husband and I had the set meal for three and it was just as good when the leftovers were reheated for lunch the following day.

We have had many take outs over too many years to count from here, Johnny boy is always ready with banter if ordering on the phone (when you eventually get through) or in person.If having a delivery as I tend to do most of the time the food always arrives in the time frame promised and usually hot enough to just eat without reheating, the food is always tasty and filling and I have never had a bad meal delivered but should a mishap occur with the order Johnny will always offer to send another out or sort it out next time we order.I would recommend the Hardwok to anyone wanting a Chinese much better than many restaurants I have visited.

Tried it twice to give it the benefit of the doubt.. terrible... spare ribs hard, curry sauce very powdery. Rice stale.. not impressed..

This was our second time at the Hardwok. I called ahead and our food was ready when we got there. They were very friendly on the phone and equally so when we arrived to pick up the food. Our food was very good and not as greasy as our previous Chinese takeaway.I'm definitely headed back again, maybe trying something new!!

ordered a set meal for two over the phone and collected half an hour later,it was waiting for me on the counter,got home and served it,could not fault the taste and quality,and also the amount.a very enjoyable meal.will certainly be going back.

Came within 30 minutes but prawn crackers were awful, prawn toast cold limp and only 4 pieces, BBQ ribs tasted of tomato ketchup and duck pancakes we didn't eat as we were unsure if it was cooked. For £20 for just those 3 things, very disappointed. We are looking for a good Chinese take away but this is not it!!!!

Ordered 2 meals. Both curries were very watery. Chicken wasn't very nice. Beef was fatty and had gristle in it. Waited what seemed hours when told half an hour. Got order wrong ordered chicken balls and got sweet and sour chicken in sauce. might give another try maybe not on a Saturday night

Quality food, tastes so much nicer than the usual takeaway. Very kindly swapped one of the meats from the standard menu, excellent service and value.

I am surrounded by Chinese takeaways, but fancied a change. Drove up to the Hardwok after reading the reviews. Now, I know it's "Just" a takeaway, but it was just delicious. A few extras thrown in, and took the trouble to find a box into which it fitted. Nice guy too, and plenty of parking. Recommended!

We use on regular basis and they always deliver to our home, staff brilliant. Very good range of food available, even if you only want English food.

Our usual Chinese takeaway is closed on a Tuesday, and Hardwok is a great alternative when only Chinese will hit the spot (on a Tuesday).The food is good quality, hot and fresh. It's a little expensive but it has a well-to-do area close by so understandably the takeaway takes advantage of this.Recommended

This has to be one of the greatest Chinese takeaways on offer. Never had a bad dish. The two front of house staff are very friendly especially the little one he is even nicer if you take him a beer. The salt and pepper dishes can't be beat. Keep it up boys. A takeaway stays if it's good this ones been here 16 years says it all.

The worst food I have had in a long time we have not touched it really and will be returning what we have left (basically all of it) in the hope for a refund.

Local, good quality food, and delivery with a smile. We have used the Hardwok for many years, Johnny is a true legend, always happy and nothing is too much trouble. Often busy at the weekend, but that's to be expected for such a good quality takeaway. Delivery for as little as one dish is available and the menu is extensive and always hot, cant fault it. Will always use above other local takeaways.

Excellent food delivered in 40 minutes to our door piping hot and super tasty. Really enjoyed it. Highly recommended. Tip: You are much better off coming to the Hardwok for a takeaway rather than eating out at that awful ruby restaurant over the road.

I cannot fault the quality of food however find it frustrating that the phone contsntly engaged to take a telephone orders. I strongly recommend( if you can to visit), place your order in the takeaway and wait!

The hardwok keeps getting our business. Always nice food. Always the correct food and nearly always ready when promised even on a Friday or Saturday. It's always busy at the weekend so plan ahead of you are after a quick turnaround

One of, if not the best Chinese takeaways within the Midlands. If you haven't tried it I would urge you to do so you won't be disappointed.

After not visiting the Hardwok for a number of months I was glad to be back to sample the quality food on offer. We ordered a great deal of various meals as this was a large family occasion. I am pleased to say that everyone was delighted with the selection and flavourful tastes I purchased. We will be back soon.

We've thought about having a takeaway from the Hardwok for years, but never have. However our usual Chinese takeaway is closed for a few weeks, so we thought we'd give the Hardwok a try.As it was a Friday night I thought we'd be waiting ages, but there was no queue, so we ordered straight away and the food appeared quickly. Main dishes were around £5.50 and so a little higher than average for a takeaway-only (not attached to a restaurant), but the quality was also better than average, and so worth it!Every dish was excellent. The chicken chow mein was especially good, it didn't taste of 'the pan' as can so often be the case, and there wasn't any hint of greasy after taste. The chicken fried rice was similarly good, and I was delighted to see bang bang chicken on the menu - it tasted delicious.Overall, highly recommended, and a lovely change from our usual Chinese takeaway.
