The Hard Work Cafe does not attempt to provide haute cuisine. In Burnt Oak there woudn't be a lot of demand or that. However, it does to what it tries to do extremely well. It's clean, the food is excellent and served in generous portions, and the proprietor, Bob, and his staff are very friendly and will always make you welcome. There is seating on the pavement for fresh-air lovers and for those strange people who want to smoke. You won't be disappointed.

We just moved back to London after time spent living abroad and this was the first place we happened to visit on our return. We couldn't have asked for a nicer welcome. The cappuccino was huge, tasty and well-priced, the service warm and friendly. It is so nice to go into a place and feel at home so quickly. Looking forward to going back and trying the food!

I just chanced on this place in Burnt Oak, an area of London more frequented by recent immigrants than tourists which makes you wonder if queuing up with a couple of hundred visitors to see Westminster Abbey is really seeing the reality of the city a sit is today. It's not posh, but the staff are friendly, the food affordable, the customers local and the cuisine "internationalish". You can get kebabs and pasta, but the real joy lies in old English dishes that you don't often see on a menu today-think Bubble and Squeak, Pie and Mash Liquor, Mushy Peas, Bangers and Mash and Bacon and Cabbage as loved by the Irish. I will definitely visit again. Not too far from The RAF Museum in Colindale (Burnt Oak is next Tube stop). It's great to see places like this, real caffs surviving in the age of Starbucks and Costa.

If you are after fine cuisine then the Hard Work Café is not for you – there again if you’re after a decent well cooked meal at a very reasonable price then this café may be what you’re looking for We have been going here for a number of years, normally midmorning mainly for coffee, coke and soup It’s a family run café who are extremely flexible – they do many variations on breakfasts, burgers, omelettes, sandwiches and a full range of full English main meals including Bangers & mash, Lambs liver, boiled bacon, fish & chips & full roast dinners They are open from early to 8.00pm 7 days a week and are located in the heart of Burnt oak with its multi ethnic food shops.

Favourite pub in Forest Hill. I love the decor and the overall atmosphere. The outdoor heating lamps are great too.
