Simple the best Chinese in Manchester. I have been coming g here for a number of years and it has always been 10. This place is really authentic and don’t be expecting fancy food with edible flowers. What sets happy seasons apart is the quality of the food as well as the fantastic friendly service. Be warned there is always a queue so don’t be alarmed. The wings are my go to but the seafood dishes along with the roast duck is stunning. A must if you ever visit Manchester.

Honestly, one of the best places to eat Chinese BBQ. My favourite and recommend dishes to try are: Braised Beef Brisket & Tendon In Clay Pot and All the roast meats: Char Siu roast pork, Soya Chicken, Crispy Roast Belly Pork & Roast Duck Cantonese Style. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! if you visit Manchester. <3 even the staff is very friendly and kind. There is usually a very long waiting line outside, so choose a time before it's too late at night as they also finish their roasts.

Foods are overall average but the services is so bad. You can just order but if you have any further enquiries or amendments the waitress will be unhappy, showing the bad face right in front of you and keep talking nonsense. Repeat customer over almost 20 years. Food quality remain good, especially roasts. Unfortunately, prices have become very high. Probably due to their business being good. Even with high prices, Happy Seasons is unafraid of pushing customers away. Seating areas are very narrow and limited. Always felt like being pushed out when the meal is barely finished.

We visited as a friend wanted to try this place. We ordered salt pepper pork chops, prawn won tons, three roast rice, duck soup noodles, black bean rib noodles and curry brisket rice. The three roast portion wasn’t as generous as other restaurants I have been. The char siu was average but the duck and roast pork was nice. The black been rib noodles had the wok hei, which gave it a really nice flaming flavour. My least favourite was the noodle soup, it actually tasted a bit off, so was not a fan of it. Overall I still think it’s overrated and been boosted by Instagram.

The food here is amazing, reminds me of home. The atmosphere, although unbearable to some, is very reminiscent of many restaurants back home, which I am a huge fan of. But all this is all ruined by the utterly utterly horrible service they have here. And it is an absolute shame. I never post reviews for restaurants even if I had a bad experience as I’ve never been at a state where; after the meal, the experience would be horrible to the point that I thought it needed a review. I hope this speaks volumes of the utter disgust and disappointment that I have for this restaurant in terms of service. My advice for any Chinese person coming to this restaurant is: If you speak mandarin, forget about it. You’ll be treated horribly. A bit of context, I am a Hongkonger, and I was taking two of my friends who are “mainlanders” out for dinner. Whenever I’m with them, I always speak mandarin when ordering despite being in a cantonese restaurant. This prevents any confusion as both parties understand each other. Now here’s the thing, even as a hongkonger, nothing boils my blood more than the utter disrespectful, condescending attitude that a lot of Hongkonger waiters and waitresses have. When you’re treating me and my friends with that level of service and disrespect, who exactly is the one that is giving off a bad image (which many hongkongers accuse mainlanders of)? My friend speaks in mandarin, the waitress forcefully answers in English (despite her understanding and knows how to speak basic mandarin). Is all this too hard to comprehend? My friend is not speaking cantonese because he is NOT CANTONESE. Through out the service, me and my friends showed the upmost respect, thanking the waiters and waitresses for everything they did. But them? Not a smile, not a gesture of acknowledgment. This hypocritical attitude is just absolutely f-ing disgusting and as a hongkonger, I am honestly so ashamed that this is the kind of attitude and image we’re projecting to mainlanders. Another detail that is worth noting is when I forgot a personal item as we left in a hurry, a waitress came to us with the item the second we left, sounds good up to this point right? Yeah it was… until I thanked her, apologized and once again it was that look of disgust, annoyance and condescension on her face. I mean…. C’mon, need I say more? Was that really necessary? So please, stop it with the condescending attitude. The hypocrisy is just plain disgusting. This is all such a bad image for us Hongkongers. If any of you are reading this, I will have to make this clear: My review and experience of this restaurant is strictly my own, your experience might be different. And please, for the love of God, do understand that not all Hongkongers are like this. Tai Wu, for example, which is not far away, also with staff that are hongkongers, are the nicest, most respectful, and friendliest people I have ever met. I will definitely not be coming back here before the atrocity that is the service in this restaurant is improved. WHAT A SHAME.

Authentic Chinese food here. You can always tell a good authentic place if Chinese people also eat here and it’s the queue of takeout orders waiting to be picked up by local Chinese businesses in China town that’s impressive. Expect to queue but boy is this place the best and we have eaten at them all . Nothing compares. Start as always with crispy duck and pancakes I always have triple meat and rice which is belly pork , roast duck and bbq pork all in a sauce simply Devine . Partner chose Singapore noodles which was a large size . It would get full 5 stars but little cramped in the dining room paper on tables and has looked the same over 20 years no upgrades but why change as it’s perfect £50-£60 average bill not cheap but it’s very good 👍🏽

We read the reviews about this Restaurant and seemed to be top choice in China town, we were expecting something special. We waited about 20 minutes outside thinking it must be good. We were really disappointed in what we got, the food seemed just frozen, reheated food. The chicken was the worst and the ribs were terrible. This is just basic standard food, nothing special. We ordered a starter between us of spring rolls, seaweeds, ribs and prawn toast. The mains were Prawn in sweet & sour sauce, egg fried rice, Chicken in lemon sauce and some noodles. We paid £68 for this and 2 drinks, the portions are large but the quality is poor. Very overpriced for basic food. We will not be returning I don’t mind paying for decent food but this was not.

Chicken wings were huge, as were all the portions. We had the three roasts and two noodle dishes, all were lovely, portions were enormous. I’m gonna make it simple, the food is amazing and quite filling. I would give it more stars but this restaurant left me feeling really disappointed. The atmosphere is compact, loud and the chairs aren’t very comfortable. Don’t get me started on the level of service. I believe the staff in this restaurant need critical service training, they have zero manors, they throw your dishes around carelessly and move your tables and plates without consent. At the end of my meal I was so disappointed that I asked to remove the service charge, the lady ignored me and put it on anyway, my girlfriend interrupted but was talked down to and guilt tripped so I ended up paying service charge. On the way out the waiters didn’t even say thank you or goodbye to us. If you care about being treated like a human being with dignity avoid this place. Also if you speak Mandarian like my girlfriend you will be treated like dirt.

We (2 pp) went to have lunch at Happy Seasons this afternoon. We ordered 2 dishes. In one of the dishes, when we finished 2/3 of it, we found a piece of long hair (we regret so much we forgot to take a picture of the hair as an evidence) in the dishes which made me throw up. I told the staff about this. He didn't apologize but showed black face instead. He asked if we wanted replacement. We politely declined the offer because we were already full. He then reluctantly offered he would remove the payment of this dish. Then suddenly all of the staff turned their faces to BLACK. They had not apologized and from their attitude, they made us think we had done something wrong. When we were leaving, one of the staff followed us and kicked a rubbish towards us. This type of services has NEVER been acceptable and tolerable. We swear we will NEVER return to this restaurant and hope everyone will treat our comments with serious consideration if you wanna eat at such terrible place. Finding a piece of hair in a dish is extremely intolerable in any places especially in UK since the food hygiene in UK is very high.

Hard to choose from the menu because you just want everything! Ingredients you can tell are fresh, cooked to perfection. Staff a super efficient and friendly. You might think the restaurant looks basic, maybe it is but you’re not there to eat the furniture! I'd normally be off to Glamorous to fulfil this craving, but had heard it's not great at the moment. Looked at Happy Seasons reviews as I'd been told the duck was fabulous, but reviews were mixed. Arrrgh. In the end we chanced it - and glad we did. There were two couples in front of us in the queue, and we got a table within ten minutes. We had chosen what we were going to eat while we were in the queue, so ordered pretty much straightaway. The main courses arrived before the dim sum - which our waitress told us would happen and didn't bother us. First dish to arrive was rice sticks with beef. Omg, the flavour was fabulous and the beef beautifully tender. Winner. We had three roast meats and a portion of egg fried rice (you can get meat on rice but it's cheaper and so we surmised there would be less meat). The duck was meltingly tender and full of flavour, the belly pork really tasty with very crispy skin. The char Sui was pleasant but paled in comparison to the other two, in my opinion. As for the dim sum, we had the won tons, which were enormous, very crisp with a prawn filling, and the classic har gau, which were good. Service was friendly and efficient. We left feeling very Happily Seasoned.

Absolutely no idea what the hype is about this place among die-hard western fans queueing outside days and nights without fail, so I decided to try it out with my husband and daughter who eat Chinese food most of the time and have probably tried 80% of the Chinese restaurants in Manchester. I guess as it was Monday lunchtime we didn't have to wait and were taken to a corner table in no time where our average sizes were an advantage. As expected the meal and the staff were pleasant enough, but nothing out of ordinary. My beef & vermicelli noodles dish was flavoured okay but beef was tough as it was clearly sourced from stewing beef with the use of meat tenderiser. Whoever said that there was no MSG in their dishes must be having a laugh, all Chinese restaurants use MSG, it is a matter of using more or less. My daughter had crispy belly pork, when asked, she replied that it was no different from other Cantonese eating places she had tried in the past. My husband enjoyed his Satay chicken and a couple of dim sum dishes with no issue, again he said that he knew what to expect, he just wanted a change in taste once in a while. In short, if you have never tried the typically westernised cantonese food before and you want to try it, then this is a safe bet for you, but definitely not worth the long wait outside in the rain, cold and darkness, or the tight space inside. FYI - they put 10% service charge onto your bill, I asked a waitress if they would indeed get that money, she said yes. I guess this is a way to substitute their low pay without raising the prices, but it's clearly not a service based charge imo.

Manchester Chinatown is not a very big place, under the cold harsh weather recently in the mid West in UK, the queue line is visible and long. When there is a queue in front of a restaurant, there must be good food. When I get closer to the restaurant, I saw the roasted duck from the windows and many people sitting inside the restaurant enjoying the meal while the queue does not mind waiting. I know this is a restaurant that serve good duck food. Pay a visit when you are there. I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Went for a quick lunch and ordered 2 roast meat. I got a plateful of rice and on top 4 slices of roast duck and 5 pcs pork and side Chinese veg.. It doesn’t do justice ..in their instagram post it’s so appetising..in actual fact it’s so disappointing! People this place is a con..don’t believe what you see in their instagram post. This place is overrated! and the cheek of them adding service charge ! there’s no service at all.. disappointing visit. Never recommend this place to my Far East Asian friends.. see their instagram pictures ..compared to what they served to me this afternoon..

Didn't live up to all the positive reviews here and the long queue. Very cranky lady taking our orders who seemed so impatient and annoyed by our questions about the menu. Other staff was very friendly though. Ordered: Chinese vegetables - bit bland. Eggplant with minced meat and dried fish - very nice dish Salt n pepper prawns - was battered too thickly and fried instead of stir fried. 3 pounds for each small bowl of rice and fried rice is just too expensive. Disappointing.

The food is really delicious and the portion is good. Highly recommended for the one who like Chinese cuisine. The only thing I was disappointed was the service of waiters.

The first time we visited Manchester December of 2022, we ate here twice during our three day stay. We could have had a hat trick if the q wasn't long on our third visit. I am back again today and our first meal was back here for lunch. I brought my brother in law and a friend this time. You have to try the roast duck and pork; out of this world! There is a high chance I will get back again before I leave Manchester! May I add, the service staff and everyone were fantastic. They were friendly, and ever present to make you feel at home. I love this place.

Tried this place out because it had excellent reviews, and I really like the British style of Chinese food. Arrived at 4:45 in the afternoon and had to wait about ten minutes for a table, although this was not surprising as most reviewers mentioned that there is always a wait. I was asked (actually firmly directed) to wait outside, as there is no lobby area. This was not the greatest situation as the weather was pretty chilly. The decor was very plain and spartan and reminded me of the places I have dined at in London's much larger Chinatown. However, it was very clean and you don't go to this type of restaurant for the ambience! I had the shrimp toast for an appetizer, which was above average but not spectacular. Also tried the hot and sour soup, which also tasted good but was a little on the thin side. For the entree I had sweet and sour pork which was outstanding--flavorful and not too heavily breaded with just the right mix of onion, carrots, pineapple and peppers. It was accompanied by a delicious bowl of egg fried rice. Service was typical of a Chinese restaurant-polite but with very little small talk or conversation. While I noticed that most people's orders came out within 5-10 minutes, my order took about 20. But it was tasty and worth waiting for. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food. Definite worth a try if you like above-average Chinese food without having to pay for luxurious a setting.

Amazing food and service, friendly, warm and extremely quick. I tried their three roast meats and it was incredible, one of the ladies there told me it’s their signature and I can see why! 10/10 wish I lived closer

Dishonest business. Overcharged. Also 1£ for chill sauce! If the food isn't boring we wouldn't need the sauce for flavour.

Overall the dining experience is not up to expectation. The eating utensils are quite chipped and scratched. The food was served on poor quality plastic plates with JAPANESE prints. The cola was served at room temperature. Ice and a slice of lemon was served but the amount of ice was insufficient. Wouldn't recommend dining in. Maybe takeaway is better.

Short trip but a must for me, 3 roast rice, har gau and shiu mai. Exceptional food and the portions are huge, not your standard small bits from London. Highly recommended. Happy seasons, don't ever change, I will be back for more!
