Foodnwas delicious with a few vegan options (unmarked on the menu so had to check with the waitress) staff were efficient and attentive. My only qualm was upon returning to the office I had violent diarrhoea which may or may not have been related. This only lasted for an hour though so I'd go again to give it another shot

Heard alot about this place, therefore we were looking forward to eating here. Unfortunately the staff and service was extremely poor and discriminative. We were met with eye rolls and a rude attitude when we accidently poored tea into the wrong cup, discussed having allergies but they did not offer to accommodate, we could see everyone else receiving a good welcome and sanitising wipes, but we did not. The experience made us feel very uncomfortable and dismissed. Food was average but came very quickly and rushed. No chance I'd go back, would not recommend this place and the price was not worth it at all!

Having read the reviews my family and I were keen to try this place. The restaurant is small and you have to wait outside for a table as there's no indoor waiting area (hence why there is sometimes a queue) We got a table after fifteen minutes which isn't bad. The tables have paper tablecloths and the inside decor is very basic. When we were finishing half the restaurant was empty. However they still threw the bills at us and tried to get us to pay immediately when we hadn't finished. I checked the opening hours in case they were due to close and they weren't closing for another six hours .... The egg fried rice was dry and the satay had no flavour at all. They charge for chilli oil when most places give it for free and also charge for take away boxes. The food isn't cheap, it's actually quite expensive, especially considering how downtrodden it is inside and the small portions. Very over hyped and not worth the wait or the money. There's lot of places to try in China town. I wouldn't bother with this one.

This used to be my go-to Chinese food place in Manchester for years but it’s just too busy to get a table now. As a location, it’s a tiny, basic, dirty-ish looking Chinese restaurant, but like many restaurants that you’d find in HK itself, it looks crappy but the food is awesome. Never had any issues during or after eating here, and must have eaten here 100 times plus. My recommendations for food: Mapo tofu (my go-to Chinese dish worldwide), Au lam bo, garlic bak choi, broccoli with japanese tofu, salt and pepper wings and salt and pepper ribs. Of course, they also serve western Chinese food and that is excellent too, but try some of the true Chinese food and you’re in for a treat.

I decided to visit this place after noticing how busy it always seems. I don’t often venture into Manchester, but this time I thought I’d give it a try. There were four of us, and we ordered the triple roast with rice, seafood chow mein, and some dim sum. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to the hype. The triple roast was okay, but the rice was only lukewarm — it was clear the dish had been microwaved before being served. The seafood chow mein lacked seasoning, and the dim sum was underwhelming both in flavor and quality. Given the prices, I expected more attention to detail and a higher standard of food. Ironically, the jasmine tea ended up having more flavour than the meal itself. The staff were friendly, and the place was understandably busy, but for the type of restaurant it is, I’ve had much better elsewhere in both portion size and quality. Sadly, this isn’t a place I’d choose to eat at again unless there’s a serious improvement.

I recently had a fantastic meal at Happy Seasons, and it absolutely lived up to its reputation! We tried a range of dishes, and every single one was packed with flavour and cooked to perfection. The prawn fried rice was fragrant and well-balanced, with generous portions of juicy prawns. The mapo tofu was rich, spicy, and full of depth—perfect comfort food with a kick. The charsiu pork and pork belly were both incredibly tender and flavourful, with that signature sweetness and savoury glaze that’s hard to beat. But the real star of the show was their signature roast duck—crispy skin, succulent meat, and just the right amount of seasoning. It’s no wonder it’s so highly recommended! The service was fast and efficient, and the atmosphere was lively, giving it that authentic buzz of a proper Cantonese spot. Happy Seasons is definitely a go-to for amazing Chinese food in the city, and I can’t wait to go back for more!

Opening hours don't include lunchtime closure, red flag number 1. Ordered the Braised Monk Fish Fillet with Belly Pork & Beancurd in Clay Pot from the 'Chinese authentic' section (£18.80), Spicy Sliced Duck Szechuan Style (£18.50), Egg Fried Rice (£3.80), Boiled Rice (£3.00) and Siu Mai Steamed Meat and Prawn Dumplings (£6.50). Everything bar the dumplings came within 5 minutes to my surprise, red flag number 2. The sliced duck was bland with no hint of Szechuan whatsoever so I asked for the flavour to be adjusted and I was given some standard chilli oil which didn't suit the flavour profile described for the dish. The waiter tried to gaslight me arguing it was Szechuan style when it evidently wasn't, red flag number 3. I was then offered an alternative dish but given the quality of the clay pot dish I also ordered (which was basic with no authenticity about it) I didn't see much point. The Egg Fried Rice was the stand out of the meal, the dumplings being forgettable. The waiter's demeanour had a strong sense of superiority complex which may be due to their heavy social media presence and demand which that creates. The restaurant offers supermarket microwave ready meal standard food at premium prices. Perhaps there is a separate menu we weren't offered?

I had a seriously frustrating experience at your place on March 12, 2025, and I’m honestly upset about it. I got there at 3:45 PM, parked my car—paid parking fee which was quite expensive —only to be told by your staff to come back in 30 minutes because they were having dinner. That’s a big problem because you don’t mention this anywhere. No signs, no website update, nothing. If I’d known, I could’ve avoided the trip, saved my time, and not wasted money on parking. What made it worse was how the staff handled it. Instead of owning up to the mix-up, they brushed me off like it was my fault for not knowing. I asked to speak to a manager, but no one even bothered to get them. That’s not okay—it felt like my time and effort didn’t matter at all. I’m really let down by this. Your restaurant needs to step up and make things clearer for customers so this doesn’t keep happening. I’d appreciate an apology and some answers about why this isn’t posted anywhere. People deserve better than this, and I hope you fix it soon.

Probably the worst meal I’ve had out. Definitely the worst Chinese meal I’ve had. After seeing this place on IG and saving it for future, we decided to make the 2.5hr drive and have lunch here before staying in a hotel outside Manchester. We got there early so we were second in the queue. We were seated and served quickly and staff were nice enough. We really wanted to try the prawn toast as it looked so good on their IG page. We decided to have the sharing starter for 2 people which had prawn toast, spring roll and salt and pepper ribs. We also ordered the three roast meats on boiled rice as it seemed to be the famous dish there. My son also ordered the meat and prawn steamed dumplings. The meat and rice came first and though it looked ok, there definitely wasn’t much duck on the dish which was the main attraction for us. The whole dish was topped with I assume their homemade ‘soy sauce’ this was sweet and very salty with not much other flavour going on. The roast pork was so incredibly salty we couldn’t even eat it all, and we like our food heavily seasoned! The 2 bits of roast duck we got were delicious but not really enough of it. The char sui again was just super salty and nothing else. The boiled rice wasn’t even nice and and the soy sauce just ruined it all. Then the stater platter came out and instantly I noticed the prawn toast didn’t look like the one on their photos, instead we had been given 2 pieces of cheap (I assume brought in) deep friend prawn toast you get from any cheap take away. Very disappointing. The spring rolls were fine. The salt and pepper ribs were probably the worst part of everything. They were deep fried ribs that were literally COATED in table salt. You could see and feel all the salt on them when picking them up. One taste and we just couldn’t even stomach eating them, they had that horrible chemical taste you get from too much table salt. My son’s dumplings were fine and looked appetising but as they came out last we were already feeling quite unwell and disappointed from the other food. I continued to feel quite unwell all day I assume from the salt in the food. All in all it was a massive disappointment for us and a waste of £50! If you’re travelling far, maybe pick somewhere else!

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in Manchester. Went after years of hype. Ordered the schezuan duck, braised monkfish, pork belly and bean curd, egg fried rice, rice and then prawn and chicken dumpling. Totalling £50.60. The food arrived very fast. Started eating it and it was just not what it was advertised. The schezuan dish was literally not spicy or peppery, it was the type of Chinese you ordered in a terrible area where people can’t tolerate flavours. Partner brought this up and we were offered alternative dish however we refused as we didn’t think it would make much difference. It was genuinely one of the worst ‘Chinese’ meals I’ve had. It’s also the kind of place that gives a seperate menu with highwe quality food (which we didn’t know till after). We were gaslit into thinking it was spicy!!! The food here is incredible. As someone who lives with a peanut allergy it was quite frustrating though. We ordered the Trio of Roast meats, I was told the chicken was not safe as it may contain peanuts. This was also the case with the Sichuan chicken. I often eat things that ‘may contain nuts’ as this if often a safety blanket used in factories to cover for cross contamination. I asked what the ingredient was that May contain, they were unable to tell me. This meant we ended up with a lot less food than we initially ordered. I completely understand that they don’t want customers becoming unwell in their restaurant. But more work needs to be done around allergens and ingredients that definitely contain them. That way customers and staff would feel more confident.

A Taste of Perfection at Happy Seasons, Manchester Chinatown If you’re a social media foodie or a Manchester local, chances are you’ve heard of Happy Seasons, the legendary spot in Chinatown famed for its Chinese roast meats. With queues constantly snaking out the door, it has become a must-visit destination for food lovers. But does it live up to the hype? Having heard so much about this place, we decided to get there early, knowing the reputation it holds. By 11:15, there were already a few groups gathering outside. When the doors finally opened at midday, the queue stretched around the corner—a testament to its popularity. Inside, the restaurant is no-frills, with service that is as fast as it is efficient. We wasted no time and ordered the food that included: 1. Won ton soup 2. Fried chicken wings 3. Minced chicken with lettuce wraps 4. The famous Hong Kong-style 3-meat roast platter (roast duck, crispy belly pork, and BBQ char siu pork) 5. A side of egg fried rice The Dishes: A Mixed Bag with a Standout Star! First, the won ton soup. While the won tons themselves were decent, the soup base was lackluster—lacking the depth of flavor you’d expect from such a staple dish. Next, the minced chicken with lettuce wraps. While fresh and vibrant, it fell short on seasoning, leaving us wanting more punch. But then came the fried chicken wings.......a total game changer. Perfectly cooked with a crispy exterior and juicy, flavorful meat, they were an absolute delight. And then… the pièce de résistance, the Hong Kong-style 3-meat roast platter. Words almost fail me here. The combination of crispy pork, tender BBQ char siu pork, and succulent roast duck was nothing short of perfection. I’ve had countless versions of this dish in numerous places, but Happy Seasons delivered something extraordinary. It was, hands down, the best I’ve ever tasted. If anything, I wish we’d ordered a double portion, it was that good. Final Thoughts. While the starters were hit and miss, the main event the roast meats more than justified the buzz surrounding Happy Seasons. Every bite of the Hong Kong-style 3-meat roast was worth the wait in line and the hype it commands. At £56 for four people, this meal offers excellent value for the quality and flavor on display. If you’re a fan of Chinese roast meats, this is an experience you simply cannot miss. It's enough to convert a vegan to a full on carnivore! Rating: 9/10 The slightly underwhelming won ton soup and lettuce wraps knock it down a point, but for the roast meats alone, Happy Seasons is a solid gold recommendation. Get there early, come hungry, and prepare for one of the best meals you’ll have in Manchester. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A bit tiny space but looks like very popular. My first meal taken here when arriving late. Duck dish is good but I don’t quite to get the idea of using microwave to warm up. I assumed too many people and it was prepared ahead for that purpose. But still the food is delicious and the portion is large in my opinion and with reasonable price.

Esperamos unos 40 minutos en la cola. La comida no vale la pena el bombo, en realidad es completamente promedio. ¡Juntas como sardinas y nunca volveré!

The King Prawn Chow Mein with Fried Noodles was decent, but left a bit to be desired for the price. The dish had a generous portion of prawns, which were cooked well and had a satisfying, fresh texture. However, the noodles could have been more flavourful—they felt somewhat bland and didn't quite live up to the expectations set by the price tag. While the presentation of the dish was pleasing and the prawns stood out as the highlight, the overall taste didn't justify the cost. Considering the numerous other options available, this particular meal felt overpriced for what it offered. If you’re in the area and craving Chinese cuisine, it’s a fair choice, but be prepared to spend a bit more than the taste might warrant. Perhaps exploring other dishes on their menu could offer better value for money.

🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘: “My visit to Happy Season Chinese Restaurant was truly disappointing. The waiting time was awful, and the dining experience itself didn’t get any better. Customer service was poor, and the prices felt like overcharges. I ordered a dish expecting it to come with rice, but they charged extra for the rice separately, which seemed misleading. To top it off, I could see into the kitchen, and I saw them warming food in a microwave. That’s not what I expect from a restaurant, especially when waiting so long for a table. I had high hopes, especially after the wait, but the food quality and service made it clear that this place isn’t worth it. If you’re looking for good Chinese food, I’d strongly suggest going somewhere else.” 🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘

I visited here for roasted duck. Food is good. 2nd visit for take away still Service is extremely rude. 10 percent service charges for dine in seems like paying for extra food cost. Think twice before dine here. Buy your food and go or opt for others restaurant, plenty restaurant in Manchester central giving good service. Why spoil your mood for dining. Big NO.

Honestly the worst Chinese meal I've ever had. Dry, bland, and unsatisfying. The food was terrible and the atmosphere was bad on account of the clinical white lighting. However, the service was excellent so there is that. Would not recommend, so many better options nearby.

Yeah you have to queue. Really don’t get why people do so. I was dragged here by a guy who thought queue = good. It’s fine. But really don’t bother joining the queue

AVOID. I’ll start by saying 3/4 items we bought were fine and as ordered. However the entire experience was awful. One waitress was incredibly rude (slim, taller, ponytail). It started when my friend asked for separate bills and she was sighing at her and questioning her. Then, my friend ordered a type of rice and went to change her mind the waitress then stopped writing and was acting annoyed waiting for her to decide, which stopped my friend choosing what she wanted. I then ordered my food and asked what seafood it contained. The waitress told me it was “prawns and squid for the seafood” I said ok only prawns, no squid please. Then when the food came, I mentioned we were sharing things and again we were questioned about this despite being friends having a meal together. When my dish came out it was not as expected, something was not right, my friend tried an item as I could not tell what it was, it was sliced fish balls, despite me saying I only wanted prawns & meat, no other seafood. The dish had a few random bits of meat but for the price it was not worth the money and I could not eat it. When I told the waitress, the shorter lady was kind and apologised and the taller, rude lady said “what do you want us to do about it?” “Why did you not mention it before?” I was simply making them aware that I asked what seafood is in the dish and then got given something I did not ask for / was not informed about. I did not mention it earlier as no one checked in or even looked in our tables direction the entire time, so I gave up at this point. Myself and my friend spent £61 for a mediocre Chinese and the rudest service I have ever experienced. The shorter lady apologised and I’m grateful for that but the other waitress was so disrespectful and outright rude to paying customers, I would never return or spend another penny of my money here.

Been wanting to try for a long time. Was it worth queuing for an hour to get in? Probably not. Would I go again? Yes it was pleasant enough. But not sure why there's such a hype. We tried the meats and although tasty, found the pork tough and "springy". The crispy chilli beef was probably the best dish we ordered.

Moved from London seven years ago and struggle to find a good Chinese found this place and I was so happy I regularly used to go here to treat myself spending about £50 to £60 on myself, and that’s just because you can’t get small portions and I like to try a different different things anyway the last time I went there with my friend I was so disappointed my food was cold just wasn’t the best quality The squid wasn’t crispy at all and my triple Owe Me was stone cold but the lady said that’s how they serve it anyway I wasn’t happy because before I’ve been there and it was warm don’t think I’ll be returning there. Need to find a new place Some staff are okay there is one nice,. Honesty need a bigger venue. And one time they made me wait for triple roast me as I got in after a half an hour away they told me it was sold out that was very annoying

I recently visited Happy Seasons and had a highly disappointing experience. I ordered a whole duck, but when my order arrived, it was clearly not a whole duck. When I pointed this out to the staff, they were rude and dismissive, which only added to my frustration. When I pay for a whole duck (which isn’t cheap I might add) I expect a whole duck. I expect better service and quality when dining out. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning to this restaurant.

Sehr lecker.

Duck was delicious, and good value for money. The salt and pepper prawns were nice but way too expensive (I think like £17?). Will be going back for the duck!
