Went here with my girlfriend and her family but will never again. The staff there were rushing us to order when the place wasn't busy. The whole experience overwhelmed all of us. What a way to ruin a family day out.

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in Manchester. Went after years of hype. Ordered the schezuan duck, braised monkfish, pork belly and bean curd, egg fried rice, rice and then prawn and chicken dumpling. Totalling £50.60. The food arrived very fast. Started eating it and it was just not what it was advertised. The schezuan dish was literally not spicy or peppery, it was the type of Chinese you ordered in a terrible area where people can’t tolerate flavours. Partner brought this up and we were offered alternative dish however we refused as we didn’t think it would make much difference. It was genuinely one of the worst ‘Chinese’ meals I’ve had. It’s also the kind of place that gives a seperate menu with highwe quality food (which we didn’t know till after). We were gaslit into thinking it was spicy!!! Overall do not recommend, I feel like I’ve wasted so much money and I feel like social media genuinely gaslights you.

Opening hours don't include lunchtime closure, red flag number 1. Ordered the Braised Monk Fish Fillet with Belly Pork & Beancurd in Clay Pot from the 'Chinese authentic' section (£18.80), Spicy Sliced Duck Szechuan Style (£18.50), Egg Fried Rice (£3.80), Boiled Rice (£3.00) and Siu Mai Steamed Meat and Prawn Dumplings (£6.50). Everything bar the dumplings came within 5 minutes to my surprise, red flag number 2. The sliced duck was bland with no hint of Szechuan whatsoever so I asked for the flavour to be adjusted and I was given some standard chilli oil which didn't suit the flavour profile described for the dish. The waiter tried to gaslight me arguing it was Szechuan style when it evidently wasn't, red flag number 3. I was then offered an alternative dish but given the quality of the clay pot dish I also ordered (which was basic with no authenticity about it) I didn't see much point. The Egg Fried Rice was the stand out of the meal, the dumplings being forgettable. The waiter's demeanour had a strong sense of superiority complex which may be due to their heavy social media presence and demand which that creates. The restaurant offers supermarket microwave ready meal standard food at premium prices. Perhaps there is a separate menu we weren't offered?

I ordered roast pork to take out and specifically requested it be cut up and packaged properly, as I needed to travel home. Unfortunately, the chef seemed disinterested, and I was given a lump of pork loosely wrapped in paper inside a white plastic bag. For £13.50, the presentation was poor, and it wasn’t packaged in a hygienic manner. The overall attitude and service were disappointing.

The food here is incredible. As someone who lives with a peanut allergy it was quite frustrating though. We ordered the Trio of Roast meats, I was told the chicken was not safe as it may contain peanuts. This was also the case with the Sichuan chicken. I often eat things that ‘may contain nuts’ as this if often a safety blanket used in factories to cover for cross contamination. I asked what the ingredient was that May contain, they were unable to tell me. This meant we ended up with a lot less food than we initially ordered. I completely understand that they don’t want customers becoming unwell in their restaurant. But more work needs to be done around allergens and ingredients that definitely contain them. That way customers and staff would feel more confident.

It's OK. I don't know what all the fuss was about to be honest and why people queue for ages to get a table. Food was nice. Not exceptional. Its the same as any other Chinese restaurant in town. The service is a bit slow and it's quite crammed in there. You feel like you're sitting on top.of each other. It's over priced too. Portion sizes are good. Its a bit like being in a school canteen. They use way too much MSG in the food too. I was ill immediately after.

Very disappointed with the dishes. First of all, there was no grill this evening, so we had to eat dishes with sauce. For chicken curry with very very sticky sauce and chicken in very thin strips with half an onion. The other dish shared pork chow mein also sticky pork meat in strips with a strong smell. For pork rools not good quality. Cleanliness of the place to review especially the heating and flooring. A 10% tip is imposed on the bill. So be careful to always add the tip even on the menu.

In the past, my friends and I often came here for dinner, but a few days ago, we encountered discrimination here. We waited in line at the door at 12:00, but it didn't open until 12:05. They were very unpunctual. After informing us that there were three of us, another friend and I came in and were about to take a seat to order. Suddenly, a female waiter told us to wait outside the door, because one of our friends was still on the way. They refused to serve us and insisted on leaving the restaurant, even if we asked if the two of us could use meal. I‘ve never met such a rude waiter, which is disgusting. Therefore, I will never come here for dinner again, because of the terrible service and the extremely mean waiter.(And with such poor service quality, they also force a 10% tip.)

A Taste of Perfection at Happy Seasons, Manchester Chinatown If you’re a social media foodie or a Manchester local, chances are you’ve heard of Happy Seasons, the legendary spot in Chinatown famed for its Chinese roast meats. With queues constantly snaking out the door, it has become a must-visit destination for food lovers. But does it live up to the hype? Having heard so much about this place, we decided to get there early, knowing the reputation it holds. By 11:15, there were already a few groups gathering outside. When the doors finally opened at midday, the queue stretched around the corner—a testament to its popularity. Inside, the restaurant is no-frills, with service that is as fast as it is efficient. We wasted no time and ordered the food that included: 1. Won ton soup 2. Fried chicken wings 3. Minced chicken with lettuce wraps 4. The famous Hong Kong-style 3-meat roast platter (roast duck, crispy belly pork, and BBQ char siu pork) 5. A side of egg fried rice The Dishes: A Mixed Bag with a Standout Star! First, the won ton soup. While the won tons themselves were decent, the soup base was lackluster—lacking the depth of flavor you’d expect from such a staple dish. Next, the minced chicken with lettuce wraps. While fresh and vibrant, it fell short on seasoning, leaving us wanting more punch. But then came the fried chicken wings.......a total game changer. Perfectly cooked with a crispy exterior and juicy, flavorful meat, they were an absolute delight. And then… the pièce de résistance, the Hong Kong-style 3-meat roast platter. Words almost fail me here. The combination of crispy pork, tender BBQ char siu pork, and succulent roast duck was nothing short of perfection. I’ve had countless versions of this dish in numerous places, but Happy Seasons delivered something extraordinary. It was, hands down, the best I’ve ever tasted. If anything, I wish we’d ordered a double portion, it was that good. Final Thoughts. While the starters were hit and miss, the main event the roast meats more than justified the buzz surrounding Happy Seasons. Every bite of the Hong Kong-style 3-meat roast was worth the wait in line and the hype it commands. At £56 for four people, this meal offers excellent value for the quality and flavor on display. If you’re a fan of Chinese roast meats, this is an experience you simply cannot miss. It's enough to convert a vegan to a full on carnivore! Rating: 9/10 The slightly underwhelming won ton soup and lettuce wraps knock it down a point, but for the roast meats alone, Happy Seasons is a solid gold recommendation. Get there early, come hungry, and prepare for one of the best meals you’ll have in Manchester. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The King Prawn Chow Mein with Fried Noodles was decent, but left a bit to be desired for the price. The dish had a generous portion of prawns, which were cooked well and had a satisfying, fresh texture. However, the noodles could have been more flavourful—they felt somewhat bland and didn't quite live up to the expectations set by the price tag. While the presentation of the dish was pleasing and the prawns stood out as the highlight, the overall taste didn't justify the cost. Considering the numerous other options available, this particular meal felt overpriced for what it offered. If you’re in the area and craving Chinese cuisine, it’s a fair choice, but be prepared to spend a bit more than the taste might warrant. Perhaps exploring other dishes on their menu could offer better value for money.

🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘: “My visit to Happy Season Chinese Restaurant was truly disappointing. The waiting time was awful, and the dining experience itself didn’t get any better. Customer service was poor, and the prices felt like overcharges. I ordered a dish expecting it to come with rice, but they charged extra for the rice separately, which seemed misleading. To top it off, I could see into the kitchen, and I saw them warming food in a microwave. That’s not what I expect from a restaurant, especially when waiting so long for a table. I had high hopes, especially after the wait, but the food quality and service made it clear that this place isn’t worth it. AVOID. I’ll start by saying 3/4 items we bought were fine and as ordered. However the entire experience was awful. One waitress was incredibly rude (slim, taller, ponytail). It started when my friend asked for separate bills and she was sighing at her and questioning her. Then, my friend ordered a type of rice and went to change her mind the waitress then stopped writing and was acting annoyed waiting for her to decide, which stopped my friend choosing what she wanted. I then ordered my food and asked what seafood it contained. The waitress told me it was “prawns and squid for the seafood” I said ok only prawns, no squid please. Then when the food came, I mentioned we were sharing things and again we were questioned about this despite being friends having a meal together. When my dish came out it was not as expected, something was not right, my friend tried an item as I could not tell what it was, it was sliced fish balls, despite me saying I only wanted prawns & meat, no other seafood. The dish had a few random bits of meat but for the price it was not worth the money and I could not eat it. When I told the waitress, the shorter lady was kind and apologised and the taller, rude lady said “what do you want us to do about it?” “Why did you not mention it before?” I was simply making them aware that I asked what seafood is in the dish and then got given something I did not ask for / was not informed about. I did not mention it earlier as no one checked in or even looked in our tables direction the entire time, so I gave up at this point. Myself and my friend spent £61 for a mediocre Chinese and the rudest service I have ever experienced. The shorter lady apologised and I’m grateful for that but the other waitress was so disrespectful and outright rude to paying customers, I would never return or spend another penny of my money here.

It’s super delicious. I tried their XO sauce fried rice a few days ago. It’s very fragrant and delicious. The roast duck rice we took out this time was also great. You can still eat crispy duck skin when you get back to the dormitory It’s hard to imagine how great it would be to eat there Very good restaurant, gave me something to eat in the UK

It indicates that the closing time is one but 1 hour before they stop serving people. I specifically went from my hotel to eat there 30 minutes before it closed and they wouldn't let me in. Edit: I went the next day and the FOOD was a SUCCESS. The food was delicious! At the door there was a long queue that made me wait for almost half an hour (luckily I arrived in time) but it was worth it!!

I'm no talking rubbish to you all. But go and try this place. Believe me the food was on point. The meat fell apart in your mouth. I wish I got more pictures but the food smelt amazing and I just digged in. Highly recommend and will be returning soon to try more of the menu.

Had heard good things about this restaurant and the queue outside was encouraging. As I was on my own, I was seated quickly and drinks order was also taken quickly. I would have liked to have had the the mixed starter for one but is only available for two people so ordered that and a sweetcorn and crabmeat soup. I live on the coast where crab is readily available and no restaurant here would get away with this blatantly incorrect description as the soup contained seafood sticks and was bland. The starters were not really any better - nice prawn toasts (2), ribs were very salty (4), crispy seaweed was over crisp, pancake rolls were ordinary (2). Total bill was almost £27 including a diet coke bur also a 10% service charge is automatically added. Fortunately the service was good and this was this places only redeeming factor. I don't know if there are better Chinese restaurants in Manchester but if I go back, I certainly wouldn't go here again.

I’m a huge huge fan of Happy Seasons often however this is the first I’m going to put a bad review mainly because of the pathetic service from the staff. I understand it’s not a fine dine restaurant but anyone who goes out for dinner with their family and friends would like to have nice time and not rush into things and act like a Robot because that’s what the staff makes you do. Happy seasons is always busy of course because of the excellent food they serve but that doesn’t mean one customer has to eat faster because restaurants has other customers in queue. Every customer is after all paying the money for the meal they are having. I was there with my family and we’re served main course before our soup and starters when we not only requested but the law of dinning says have soup and starters first and then meal. When we requested again to serve starters first, the lady from the staff arrogantly told that ‘there’s a long queue of customers and we don’t want to waste time. Soup and starters will take time to cook so have main course first’. Disgusting it is. When we’re giving food order to that staff lady, she was in so rush and didn’t even let us think or take time to go through the menu and even when we’re asking about the food delicacy or the ingredients or the spice level etc. she was rude and didn’t seem to be interested in responding. When we requested not to pour the additional salt that they do on top of cooked salt and pepper chicken, She very rudely and arrogantly replied saying ‘how do you know if we pour salt on top of it you can’t even see what our Chef’s do downstairs in the kitchen’ we said it’s not our first time here we love salt and pepper chicken it’s just that the additional crystal salt on top of chicken is too much. She still didn’t acknowledge it and said ‘yeah will see’. I felt like customers aren’t welcomed there even after paying for it. Very disappointing really. Overall feedback is serve your customers who are sitting already and eating well rather reminding them or making them feel that there are other customers in the queue. We don’t go to happy seasons to think about other customers because that’s not what I’m paying for rather I’m paying for the food and the service.

Food was great as usual but the service from one of the staff is insane. I was speaking to her nicely but all i got was she increasing her volume on me and even sighing me, this was not my first time here at the restaurant but i was so excited to bring my parents tonight as the food is always good to me but thanks to her i would not be going back anymore as she ruined our experience and whats worse is that we are charged for the service despite she was so rude to us and when i ask if she can recommend me a vegetable dish but all i get is ‘I dont know what you want’. And as she was mixing both english and cantonese and mandarin when we were ordering, hence i thought she is comfortable with all three language and i ask kindly if she can explain what type of roast meat left in the restaurant to my parents, but she was calling me racist for that and judging her based on her accent which is a joke because she was literally speaking a mix of chinese and cantonese as well and when i was ordering my meal, i said nicely that i wanted two roast meat which one is rice and one is change to noodle, she wrote down just one roast meat with noodle and one plain rice hence i didnt meet the requirement of 12 pound per person but i did not know that becuz i clearly told her i wanted two roast meat and was ask nicely why didnt it meet the requirement, but she was sighing and shouting at me pointing at her paper and said ‘did u want mandarin, why cant u read this and understand what i have wrote on the paper’. This is beyond disgusting and i just wanna say if she is having a bad day or is just born impatient, maybe please consider other jobs becuz customer service is clearly not her calling. If only i can give 0 star for this disgusting and inhuman service. 🤢

Nice Chinese restaurant in China town. Visited this place at 8:30 pm but still be the long line there. Waiting for approx 20 min till we stepped inside. By the way , the food was serving quite fast so this made us feel better while we were so hungry. Definitely try their fried noodles with the great wok we can smell! This was my top choice. BBQ pork was good but the belly part already gone so the part we took not soft enough.

Very typical HK BBQ style food, no surprise to me, but the waitress’s attitude is even cooler than HK based waiters/waitresses which is very surprising to me. Very much to hope that their attitude is not because of us to order only BBQ food with rice not being like those valuable local UK guests doing.

This place can get very busy as is rather small. However, I sat in to have one dish, mix seafood chow mein (£15.50). It was presented super-fast, and the welcome was friendly. The dish was excellent, amazing. However, I did not realise that my request for chili oil (a small dipping sauce bowl) would be charged at £1 on the bill. This is a condiment but was listed on the menu. I take umbrage to this, and no one else does it. Then a 10% service charge (for laying down one plate) was quite a mercenary £1.65. I voiced my feedback and said I would include it in my review. Next time, I'll go to the nearby supermarket and buy a 110g jar for £2 rather than 2 teaspoons for £1.

I ordered half a roast duck to be taken away. I wasn’t very happy about cutting corners. It's not fresh at all. The meat is plum-like and soft, like it's made from frozen duck and has been stored for three days and sold to you overnight. I'm so disappointed. I bought it in the past and it was of good quality. What happened now?

We saw the queues for this place all day and decided to give it a try despite the mixed reviews. So glad we did because it was beautiful, the food was so tasty, fresh and not greasy at all. Authentic Chinese place with no frills. Staff were friendly, couldn’t have asked for more. Will definitely return when back in Manchester.

The short, ugly man who chopped up the roasted duck at the door had a very bad attitude towards the customers. He was ugly and had a very bad attitude! Every time, the customer was given a shriveled roast duck that was burnt and blackened. The customer would not change it if he asked for it. The short and ugly man kept scolding him: If you want to buy it, buy it. If you don’t buy it, throw it away. Anyway, you don’t care? Are you looking down on others while scolding them? If this restaurant doesn't replace the short, ugly man who chops up the roasted duck, sooner or later all the customers will run out and the store will close down...

A fantastic chinese chippy - we've been a couple of times. Service is fast and the salt & pepper chips are decent. Sweet & Sour chicken in a good texture and doesn't feel like the ready-sauces you often get in other chippies. Good value for money too.

We visited for our daughter’s birthday and were firstly told we could have her cake at the table.. in the cautious and woke world we now live in .. I’m not blaming the staff for that. However, we would always choose somewhere that allows cakes for future celebrations as it’s a big part of the birthday experience for us. The staff weren’t attentive at first but then our drinks order arrived in stages .. the soft drinks (which are easier to make) sat in the bar for 15 mins after the cocktails were served! The staff weren’t attentive chatting and the talk dark haired manager was on his phone. In the end we had to signal to the bar staff to bring the drinks to the table. We last visited in the early days of Tattu’s opening and it was a 5 star experience, however this time the food was not to the same standard. I chose baby chicken, which was very dry and the broccoli was overcooked .. it should still be firm when seared not soggy and almost blackened. Tattu is a very expensive restaurant and the experience did not match the £100 a head price this time. (this was with just one alcoholic drink per person)
