We felt very good in this fabulous place.. plus the cocktails were delicious and the food, I have no words to describe how good and tasty it was. I’ve been a loyal customer of this burger shop since the day they opened, and it’s always been my favorite. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed a decline in quality recently. The fries and chicken now taste like they’re fried in old oil, which really affects the flavor and makes it hard to enjoy the food. I’m disappointed to see this change, especially since I know how great the food used to be. I hope they address this issue and bring back the quality we love.

Hadn’t been to HANBAO before but heard really good things online. Despite that, was more impressed than I expected to be. The food options all sound excellent and reasonably priced. The burgers, fries and cocktails we had were all tasty and came in good portion sizes. Service was also very friendly so will definitely go back.

Genuinely one of the best restaurants I've ever visited, and the place I always bring people to whenever I have guests visiting from outside of the city! Hanbao is an absolute gem of a place, and easily the best burger I've ever had, and I'm saying this as someone who isn't much of a burger person, especially beef burgers. But Hanbao's smash patties are to die for -- I've now tried the Hanbao, the Juicy, and the Black Bean Philly and they all balance the ingredients perfectly. The buns don't fall apart and you're not fighting to get the entire thing in your mouth despite how intimidating they look in the photos on the website! Admittedly, it is a bit of an expensive place to eat. The burgers don't come with any sides, so you'll need to buy fries separately for the classic burger experience. You're looking at around £15 - £20pp minimum before any drinks are included, which does make this place more of a treat for me than a regular eatery. Despite it being pricier than I would traditionally be willing to fork out for, it's more than worth it in my opinion. My personal favourites are the Black Bean Philly burger and the Shaolin fries. My partner isn't a fan of pork belly but despite this he absolutely loves the Shaolin fries! The staff are lovely and are super accommodating, too. We had half of our booking having to take a taxi all the way from Stafford thanks to mass train cancellations over the weekend -- one quick phone call later and we were able to push our booking back by 90 minutes which was a huge relief. Part of me wants to gatekeep this place because of how good it is, but I'd also love for more people to know that Digbeth is full of fantastic places like Hanbao. Even if you're not a huge burger fan I'd recommend you give it a go, I reckon you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Possibly one of the best burgers I have had in Birmingham. The atmosphere is cool and the soundtrack was consistently impeccable. Will be back.

Absolutely loved Hanbao. Great service, food and drinks selection.

The food is very very good but the management is terrible! Twice now we have arrived and even though there were many empty tables, you need to ask them 3-4 times before they decide to let you have a meal there. Both times another 3-4 tables remained completely empty while we had our meal so it's never fully booked as the management claims to be. This makes the overall experience really bad.

The burgers were cooked perfectly and very filling, the juicy definitely lived up to its name and I would definitely go back, service was great and atmosphere was cool with a skate feel, the only downside was that it wasn't more busy when we went but arriving after typical lunch time hours that's unsurprising. Other than that, prices are great and I would definitely recommend.

First time Ive been here and I will definitely come again. We didn't book a table and team were really accommodating, we sat in the bar and Jay was our waitress, she was attentive, friendly and gave her suggestions. Food came out so quick (definitely over ordered but tool left overs in a cute takeaway box) Anderson was also friendly and super welcoming. Great job guys!

I went for the juicy. As advertised, very juicy indeed. Shaolin chips were nice. Mac and cheese a bit dry. Lacking in sauce. Good bit of scran all in all.

This place is amongst the best places to serve Burgers, Wings and Loaded Fries. No nonsense, great decor, great staff and one of the best burgers I’ve had in a while. I’ve been recommending this place to everyone I can!

My favourite burger place in brum

Arrived with no booking and were seated in the bar area. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff taking us to our seats. Really great decor to this place. We arrived around about 5:45 and had our drink orders taken pretty quick. I took a star off on the service because the chap who took our order didn't seem to want to be there and was quite quiet. We did also wait longer than expected for pir drinks and thought they were going to come out with out food as we ordered it all at the same time. We were sat right by the bar and were in permanent view of the serving staff but were never checked on. My husband had to check with the staff about drinks and he didn't know what they said as it was a mumbly response with the staff walking away, we presume to check on the drinks. The mixologist happened to be passing our table and asked if we were OK and we mentioned it to him, he seemed shocked and quickly went to sort it for us. No huge deal but we were parched. Once our drinks came our food was not far behind. Honestly safe to say one of the best burgers I have ever had! I had the Han Boa of course and it was gorgeous! The bacon is next level elite and now no bacon will ever compare. The husband had the ceaser burger and wow a great concept. We would love to visit again but may pre book in future for a more comfortable relaxed experience. FOOD IS PERFECTION.

The Kahuna wings tasted burnt. Couldn't eat pass one bite. I'm familiar with terikayi, dark soy, light soy, oyster, jajang, 'cause I'm from Asia. It was nothing like that. It tasted burnt. Told 2 waitresses who asked how the food was, who told the cooks, only to be told that's how it's supposed to taste like. May as well not ask how my food was. No offering a different flavour, no alternative dish, just had to put up with it. Paid £7 for 4 pieces of half wings (ie. 2 chicken wings) when it costs them £1.99/KG to buy and make. Wouldn't think it'd cost them much to replace with another option, but no. I've tried all their burgers and fries by now. Shaolin fries are my favourite but the bottom fries never get enough sauce. Asked for sauce before (when they asked if I wanted any sauce) and they added £1.50 to the bill. Overall, they're greedy. Don't think I'm a fan anymore.

We had the Mac Daddy Kane and the Piggie Smalls and they were two of the best burgers we can remember 🤤 Big Buddha Belly chips were great too, very generous on the toppings. Staff really friendly too

Early evening visit so not at all busy but staff were attentive and friendly and the food excellent! Even my picky co-diner cleared her plate! Looking forward to returning to try more burgers and sides as the whole menu is tempting! Great place and nicely decked out.

The food was good, the Mac n cheese really nice and I don't usually like Mac n cheese. The wings were nice but smothered in sauce and I don't like that so I didn't finish them. Overall interesting building and environment, I would go again to try other items in the menu as I only did the Mac n wings

We had the juicy burger and the chicken burger and they were soooo good. Our favorite was the juicy burger, we added bacon. Also really nice sesame chicken topped fries. Well worth a visit.

Great food, great cocktails and a great vibe! The food is HUGE and we massively over ordered but it was all delicious - especially the Mac and cheese and the char sui pork belly fries! Drinks service was a little slow but it was very busy when we were there, but our food came super quickly and was very fresh. Definitely coming back for more!

What an amazing restaurant hidden down the side streets of Digbeth .. We were very quickly welcomed by very friendly staff and taken to a table. The staff member very clearly explained the food and ordering options. They were also very good about us taking our two young children. We were served quickly, and food came out within 10 minutes, and wow, what can I say! Best burger I think I ever had!! Kids enjoyed their cheeseburgers, too! Good portion sizes, we shared a fries but could have easily had one each. Overall amazing can't wait to go again

Food was lovely but will not be visiting again as they've gone cashless and caved into the woke brigade . It should be my choice how I pay not yours !

Food was overpriced for what it was, and aesthetic wasn’t very cohesive. Was there when business was slow, about 6 other customers came/went the whole time we were there, still took about an hour to cook us our (3) burgers and when we got them they were already lukewarm at best. Wait staff were really nice, but probably won’t come back again if I can avoid it.

I was taken here by my daughter for Father's day. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a lovely member of staff who showed us to our table. The decor is fantastic, nothing fancy but the theme was brilliant and being in an old industrial building, it worked very well. The food and drinks were delicious, the service impeccable and overall I would highly recommend this restaurant. Whilst not cheap it was certainly worth every penny. Well done!

Went to Hanbao for the burgers and wings before a comedy show and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. This place was very well lit, clean and fresh. The music was good vibes, with a young and trendy type of setting. The service was fantastic!!! The staff were so friendly. We asked for cocktails that were fruity and alcoholic......mine came on fire! Great place to dine!!!!!!

Service always friendly, food always fast and delicious and the vibes are just 😮‍💨 Never too buy but always a chill atmosphere without it feeling awkward Came to around £40 for two burgers, two drinks and loaded fries to share Definitely recommend!

A great restaurant and addition to digbeth

Visiting Hanbao had been a long time coming but we don't visit Birmingham that often, but we will be now! I will admit due to proximity we have paid quite a few visits to Beefy Boys in Shrewsbury and I went in thinking how it would compare. Completely different, but an amazing burger with original flavours, I almost ordered a second while eating my sides. Great choice of cocktails and drinks on the menu also, shame we had to leave so early but needed to get to the O2 to see Teddy Swims. Plenty we want to try on the menu see you soon.

Came last week Thursday 18th April. Our evening Started off strong with amazing friendly fast service, atmosphere was a little flat but it was early afternoon 4pm so empty. We ordered our meals. When our food arrived it was beautifully presented. Great size portions for the children. The Beef burgers tasted a little salty but made well & the chicken burger was very nice kids burgers same size as adult burgers. On to the negative ALL the chips on each meal were COLD and fried in what tasted like old oil. I had chicken on top of my chips they were like fridge cold. I spoke to my server who got new main chips the kids ate theirs as they were extra hungry. The new chips when they arrived were hot however they still tasted like old oil & unfortunately led me to being sick before I left.

All staff are so friendly and memorable. Very inviting despite being in a warehouse. Food is amazing. I have eaten at every indie burger joint in Bham, and many more in the country. Hanbao does the best chicken sandwich, without a doubt. Their recent doner special was so good I came back two days later.

New to Han-Bao and it did not disapoint. Service was excellent on the moment of arrival to the end of the meal. Great atmosphere, warm and well laid out dining giving you a great dining experience. The burgers we ordered were the Mac Daddy Kane and the HANBAB with sides of Gochujang Mac & Cheese and loaded Tiger Style fries. All the food was amazing and we could not fault any of it. The burgers are huge and great qulaity that justifies being on the higher end burger dining experience. I’m already looking forward to my next visit here where I hope to sample the Odd Future donut burger! Thank you for giving us a great experience here, one that we are still talking about I would gladly recommend HANBAO to any burger dining enthusiasts! 5 stars here.

The burgers were delicious, however it has been a long time since I have received service that poor. Upon arriving at HANBAO, the hostess at the entrance stood looking at me without expression. After a few moments of staring at me, she eventually asked wether we had a reservation and then showed us to our table. It appeared a real inconvenience that we had arrived at the restaurant. The waitress who took our order pressed us hard for both drinks and food orders. She attempted to take our drinks order before we had finished sitting down at the table. She requested our food order multiple times within a five minute period of being seated. When taking the order, one party member changed their mind on what they’d like to order, at which point the waitress rolled her eyes, ripped off the sheet of paper she was taking the order on, and threw it in a nearby bin. If we weren’t so rushed, perhaps we may have had time to consider our order properly. We had eaten our meal and were asked if we would like anything else, within 25 minutes of sitting down. The waitress cleared away our meals while two members of our party were still attempting to finish eating. This restaurant is clearly product focused, with no consideration for customer service. We experienced a culture of poor staff attitude throughout our meal. I suggest the owners perform a serious of secret shopping exercises to understand just how significant this problem is. Since experiencing this, I have discussed with a number of friends who provided me with similar feedback. A shame because no matter how good the burger was, I will not be returning to this establishment. This restaurant has potential if they can resolve their staff issues.

What can I say? Faultless! I've been to the Worcester venue a few times now, and this one is easily on a par for quality. Amazing options and even the vegan option that my friend had was incredible! Best burgers in the country (even better than that one from Hereford with all the awards!) 😉

The best burgers in town and great side dishes. The vegan burger is delicious and this is pretty much the only burger place that I repeat. Would love to see a few more veggie options for the burgers and sides but they are flexible about swapping things in and out to make them veggie/vegan. Really good cocktails and mocktails too!

The food was very pricey for what you get. The burger was okay but the chips were seriously lacking for £6.50, it’s a very shallow bowl! Loved the environment though👍

Simply excellent. I had a smash burger it was incredibly good. The fries were also delicious. The team is great too, we only had 40 minutes to eat before our train. We were served very quickly in this sense, thanks to the chef! The place is also very nice, the street to get there is very underground which is cool.

Hanbao was amazing - totally worth the affordable price point. I will certainly be returning. I thoroughly enjoyed my burger and me and my partner had an amazing evening helped by the provision of lovely service with a smile. I would love to compliment our waiter, but unfortunately I did not catch his name. Furthermore, the gentleman in dungarees and the brunette hostess were amazing hosts and dealt fabulously when clearly under pressure. Thank you again!

Without a doubt the best burger I have tried! Being from Worcester my partner took me here initially as a surprise but we have been many times since. Since trying the food at HANBAO, no burger can live up to theirs. The food is unique and the atmosphere/aesthetic is great. Last night we were served by Arun who was chatty, friendly and the perfect level of attentive. The only thing that was disappointing is how much the quantity of food has changed over the last year, obviously cost of living has affected us all but I would say here it’s particularly noticeable. Nonetheless I would 100% recommend to anyone as the best burger in Bham!

Possibly the best burger I’ve ever eaten. The fries are also some of the best I’ve had, and the portions are generous. Good atmosphere/ decor too.

We have tried the han bao (normal burger) and the juicy burger along with the miso fries and plain fries and i must say the food lacked flavour. Couldnt tell ingredients apart as everything was bland. Take note, the place isnt cheap (20£/p) and expectations would be high. On a good note, the place had a nice atmosphere, the staff were friendly and nice, service was quite good (eventhough we came at an off peak time). The toilets were quite tight and it was difficult to actually wash hands due to the positioning of the sink. Verdict: Unfortunately, cannot recommend.
