Got steamed dumplings and server who took our order moved very fast and was friendly. The food came at a reasonable time and the food tasted very good. The issue occurred when we went up to pay. First we randomly got charged for tap water. When we questioned it, the server (who was on the phone) didn’t fully even listen to our question then just said okay never mind it and lowered our bill but it still was more than what was expected so we still pointed to where the mistake was and the server said okay mistake and told us she gave us the bill for a different table. While still on the phone she gave us a new bill (which was still wrong) because we were in a rush we just paid and left. Did not take card, only bank transfer as well. Experience ruined by the end, we just wanted leave as soon as we could. Shame :(

The taste is of a high standard and reflects the taste of Hong Kong people. The ingredients of the Zhizhu Lamb Belly Pot are good enough and highly recommended. The bean curd rolls are average in appearance but taste good. The rolls of rice rolls are too thick but the taste is acceptable. One bite of the carrot cake is good. The fried squid is average, the beef cypress leaves are delicious, the dry-fried beef river looks numb, the noodles vary in size, and the taste is average

A Hong Kong-style restaurant that tastes pretty good! Each portion is very large~staple dishes such as fried rice, etc. If you are not very hungry, you can share it among three people, and if you are very hungry, you can share it between two people! They all taste good, especially the beef tenderloin, which has a sweet and sour taste. I really like it~~ It’s just that they served one of the rice dishes wrong. When it was finally served, we said we really couldn’t eat it and were very full, so the waiter took it away~ But when we checked out , although the wrong meal was not charged, the money for not eating was added! ? The amount was changed only after being reminded later, and the wrong one will be considered ours. I hope the store didn't do it on purpose. After all, the service and meals are both good.

Absolutely lovely Dim Sum and Cantonese food. Service was excellent. The design of the tick box menu for non-chinese eaters/speakers is pure genius! The food is delicious. All freshly made. Mmmmmm. We've been twice, the second time with our autistic son and it was a very, very pleasant experience. No leftovers! For large parties they even have a Lazy Suzan. I've never seen on in a restaurant just in stately homes.

Found this restaurant on the edge of Chinatown, it's now known as Yue Xin. Went especially for dim sum for lunch however they have quite a variety of other Chinese foods. Plenty of Chinese clientele here on a Sunday afternoon. Enjoyed different dim sum classics like siu mai, Cheung fan, spare ribs and chicken feet. The waitresses were very friendly and helpful which is quite unusual as I don't usually expect good service in many Chinese restaurants. Tasty food with decent portion sizes, will be returning to try more items off the menus.Food cost around £45 for 3 people including tea.

Leaving a 3* review here for Yue Xin …then will report HD as closed. Perhaps another TA reviewer will like to add/report YX as a new place☺️ Not me today. Got here to see HD closed up and early enough there was a large enough table to seat us. Ordered £130 worth of dim sum and menu offerings. All decent average, nothing to rave about food. Great if eating in a group as it’s very much sharing small plates/bamboo steamer baskets of food. There is a self order sheet with pictures. You mark what you want and a staff member will collect the sheet from you when you’re ready. You can make additional orders midway/after if you want more. Seats were not very comfortable imo and sounded as though if you only spoke Chinese you may struggle with communicating any requests/orders off the a la carte menu. Would come again as convenient if training into the city. Right outside the steps from the old John Lewis steps. Else pay car parks not too far.

Not as grandiose as it's name suggests. It's more akin to a bistro or more appropriately "cha chang teng". Limited dim sum menu, that said, what is available is good and no hints of excessive MSG. Service isn't the best nor is it the fastest. But some might argue it's full so expect more time for dishes to come out. But One dim sum dish that we waited for, for over 90min never made it and they still wanted to charge us. Hmmm After much ado, it was taken off the bill. Not the best first experience. There's no immediate street parking outside so expect a parking ticket and if you think you can sneakily drop off n go, make sure the camera isn't pointing your direction. On a plus point the train station side entrance is right across the road so prob ok if you want to take a trainee and don't want to walk all the way down to Chinatown. Im not keen on the place but my friends think it's good. Perhaps it was just an off day? Maybe I'll give them a second chance... ...or not

I feel I should preface this by saying that I’m a reasonable person and having lived in China, am fairly familiar with Asian food. Butttt, we were really disappointed by our recent visit to this restaurant. The English menu was pretty confusing, and not accurately labelled. We are vegetarian and ordered dishes that didn’t mention meat, but turned up and were in fact meaty. It’s a shame as it looked delicious, but I can’t stand seafood, so couldn’t stomach it. The staff however were lovely, so we just ate what we could, paid, and left. Probably won’t be going back though!

A group of 6 of us went along for hotpot. The place looked very busy in the back room and a table of 4 in the main room. Every customer seemed to be Chinese - a good sign right? Er….not really. We were shown to a table and given menus by a waitress. The manager then came over and took the menus back and told us that they did everything a Chinese does, so just ask. When asked how we’d know the prices he said just ask for a dish and I’ll tell you the price. Eventually he suggested a price per head for a set number of dishes and we settled on that. Our initial order worked out, we then discovered that they didn’t really do “everything a Chinese does” - no satay skewers, no salt and pepper chicken, etc. We got there in the end and the food began to arrive. Inevitably there was a limited request for forks instead of chopsticks but they had only one available! Our final dish arrived at least 20 minutes after the previous one by which time we were wondering if we’d forgotten to order it. The party from the back room having clearly finished eating they then spilled into our room for photographs and allowed their rowdy little brats to run around this same room - it was like being at a crap wedding reception. No attempt was made by staff to control them. The food itself was mixed - some dishes were good but not all. We paid and left - never to return. A real shame.

We visited based upon a recommendation that the cook-your-own element of the hot pot was fun, a bit of a novelty for us having not tried it before. We arrived and the restaurant was quite quiet, but for some reason, when we wanted to order the hot pot, we were greeted with frantic waving to say no, we couldn't have it. It wasn't that the ingredients weren't available, the fridges were well stocked. Unfortunately we are somewhat typical in that we don't have a great grasp of any language other than English and the server didn't speak English so there was a language barrier. There were other people on other tables having the hotpot, but we were told no, you have to order something off the other menu (that's what we gleaned from the pointing anyway). So we ordered off the other menu, my partner a stir fry, me a spicy pork dish. More people came in, were seated, and ordered the hot pot and started helping themselves to the constituent ingredients from the fridges. Why were we denied this? More people started to fill up and order the hotpot. I couldn't find anything to say it was restricted timings, or minimum party size, or any reason as to why we couldn't have it. Somewhat annoyed and perplexed, our food arrived. The Stir Fry was greasy and flavourless, my partner who has a good appetite took a few bites, said it made her feel unwell and 'gross' and did not eat it. My pork was empty husks of meat with a lot of spice to it in terms of heat, but no actual flavour. Awful really. I never leave food but I left this. I've been a lot of brilliant restaurants, a lot of average ones, a lot of poor ones too. This sticks in the memory as particularly awful. 30 minutes went by, no one came to clear our dishes, so we went up to pay. We tried to complain to the polite gent at the counter, he said he's go and get the manager, to which the lady who couldn't speak English came out. She clearly did not understand her query and not wanting to raise my voice or escalate the situation, I just paid and we left. Really I do regret paying, the service was dreadful, the arbitrary denial of what we came for was puzzling and it felt like a diversionary tactic to ensure we paid by putting a language barrier in front of us when the previous server spoke perfect English. I hate seeming like a snob to keep driving home the point, but when you run a restaurant in a high-traffic area of a UK city right by a transit hub, I expect management to at least be able to converse with the Customers in the local language. I don't think that's an unacceptable stance. Overall, abysmal. Would never go back, would never recommend. We felt singled out and left disappointed. I genuinely wish I'd refused to pay.

No recomendaría, lamento decirlo.

This restaurant was previously a favourite of mine due to the individual hotpots, unlimited buffet style and a wide selection of ingredients/snacks. I was disappointed they have changed to a communal system for the hotpot, and pay per ingredient, with fewer options. It was difficult to eat with a group of people compared to the previous system. The food, however, remained good and my boyfriend, who had never had hotpot, really enjoyed it. My friends and I were left disappointed due to the aforementioned changes. The food labels are all in Chinese which would make it difficult for non-speakers to negotiate. I may go again, but not with a group of people.

Very popular with the Chinese this venue will provide the real deal with good quality choice of food. We had a dinner for 8 of us with a wide variety of good quality well prepared food with two soups, rice, squid, veggies etc. Excellent and staff very helpful. Downstairs room for private parties.

An annual reunion of old uni pals invariably takes us from pub to pub from noon to Han Dynasty for dinner. Always good food and plenty off it. Nice surroundings. Think we are the only non-Chinese eating in there. Any dodgy tummy issues afterwards are mild and I’d head down to all the beer we have and not necessarily the food. We are all still alive and often go back.

We found this restaurant by accident yesterday evening as we were walking from New St station to the theatre and were in need of dinner. The staff were friendly and helpful, advising us on the menu which had a very good and varied choice. We were very pleased with our two main courses, one chicken dish plus chow mien, which together with rice and jasmine tea proved more than adequate. Service was very speedy and as most of the other diners seemed to be Chinese there was a good atmosphere. A nice touch was a gift of water melon at the end of the meal. We will definitely return.

Visite este agradable restaurant el 2 de enero y realmente fue una muy agradable sorpresa. Grata experiencia en general, muy buena comida y buen servicio, aunado a precios razonables lo hacen merecedor de otra visita. Muy recomendable!!!!

We went here on a Groupon and for the price of it were pleasantly surprised. Four of us went at lunch time it was easy to park in New Street Station's NCP although I must add parking is expensive. Nice restaurant although staff needed more training and were a little hit and miss! I have marked excellent as we would definitely return for the food alone which was really good. We all had chicken and sweetcorn soup followed by a platter of four different starters and the accompanying sauces (although these did arrive a little late) the 4 starters included crispy duck in pancakes. We then had four delicious mains fresh and hot (temperature) ( a chicken dish a sizzling fillet steak dish, a squid dish and broccoli in a garlic sauce served with noodles and fried rice). Although the service left a little to be desired the staff excelled themselves with their friendly and pleasant and accommodating manner. The drinks were not over priced 175ml of wine £4

We really enjoyed our dinner. Hubby and son ordered Hot Pot. It’s really amazing all the choices, since it’s buffet. They bring you pork and beef, sliced super thin. The fried rice and Kung Pow Chicken were terrific. Perfect place for Vegans/Vegetarians.

Comimos allí dos veces y en ambas ocasiones la comida era excelente y las porciones son generosas. El servicio era lento y en nuestro camarero hablaba muy poco inglés, pero la comida vale la pena esperar. El pollo en dados era genial Szechaun - ideal...

Very popular amongst south east Asian diners I could see why there getting true authentic Chinese not the cheap stuff you get at takeaways or buffet style restaurant this is my favourite Chinese restaurant in Birmingham City period nothing comes close to Han Dynasty restaurant, if I didn't travel to food for food it wouldn't make a difference because the food is that good

I didn't take pictures because I never thought I would feel sick after having hot pot at han dynasty. the hygiene was really terrible, and it was 28C degree on 17th June, but Han dynasty didn't turn on the air conditioner (I really doubt whether they have a AC)There were several flies around us during our meal, and the disgusting flies always tried to stopes on our food. That's horrible experience. Now it's 4:40am UK time. I feel really sick and vomited all the food I had in Han dynasty. OMG I would never come back to this restaurant again!!!!!

At the end of a long and arduous business day in Birmingham, I decided to have a good meal before heading to the airport for the last flight home. I happened across Han Dynasty near the main station and looked forward to tucking in to some good Asiatic dishes. Surprise number one was that this is not a conventional restaurant where you order from the menu and the food is served up. The procedure is - as far as I could understand - is that you select your food and cook it yourself in a hot pot on your table. Not what I really wanted, but I persevered and started off. Surprise number two is that the extensive selection of raw foods on offer are not identified. It is good to know what you are eating and all in all I found the place to be too much a job of work, which i did not need after a 4.30 am start to my day.The situation was compounded by the fact that the two ladies in attendance simply did not have sufficient English to help, willing though they were. I freely acknowledge that there were many people in the restaurant obviously enjoying themselves but also obviously familiar with the procedure and the food selection. Unfortunately, a wrong choice for me on the day.

We stopped of here for an early dinner on the way to a concert in Birmingham We choose a pot of food which you pick yourself I went up to pick the food with a memberof the staff the food looked lovely and fresh the pot soon came and was lovely enough for two people at the cost of £12.40 we had a glass of wine and a beer with it . We did ask if they had a desert menu but they did not kindly the lady brought us over some fresh fruit which was lovely . When we settled the bill we noticed they had not charges for the fruit we left a tip lovely food and service i look forward to returning .

The restaurant can be found 30metres from the Electric Cimema, behind New Street Station. It is unlikely that you pass it unless you were directed to it. Access off the street is made with a very small step, possibly no more than 40mm, 1 1/2 inches. What first strikes you is the lack of the usual Chinese paraphernalia which you often find in British Chinese restaurants. The decor is quite minimal. Secondly, when we had our meal, we were the only Western Europeans, and all the other guests appeared to be of Chinese origin. Thirdly, the only Chinese decor was a wide screen TV, streaming a Chinese programme, with Chinese subtitles. This, we felt, gave the restaurant a stamp of approval from their fellow countrymen. The menu was reasonably varied, but had some dishes with ingredients that we had never had before. Ordering and serving times where perfectly acceptable. The portions are some of the best we have see. What impressed us most of all was the flavour. It did not have a 'franchise' flavour, no different from anywhere else. The food genuinely tasted fresh, interesting, and cooked by someone who knew what they were doing. There was a cold buffet bar which we did not try, but without knowledge of Chinese ingredients and Chinese script, your choices would be a bit of 'pot luck'. Finally, the cost for two main courses, two different types of rice, and drinks for two, came to £28. We were impressed. It might be a bit of a walk off the beaten track (a shorter route is via the lowest floor in John Lewis), but it felt like a very reasonably priced authentic Chinese meal.

Food was delicious but delivery time was 1.5hrs. Delivery person was really nice but the time they took was so long. A real shame as Johnny Wong has been our family favourite for years.

We generally have many takeaways from this restaurant, but on this occasion we had a Singapore chowmein which was very bland, I would also like to complain about the girl who takes the orders, she needs to learn how to talk to the public, very rude and abrupt

Good to see 6 or 7 vegan main options - the more plant-based options the better, so please introduce more sweet and savoury vegan dishes. The seating area was quite open and loud... Would benefit from some quiet corners for people to sit and relax.

For well over 20 years we have eaten from Szechuan House regularly and considered it the best Chinese take-away in the area by far. We never had a bad dish and the food and service was always wonderful. Sadly, however, it seems to be under new management since we last ordered from there a few months ago. There was no warning or announcement, as far as we were aware, so the first indication of the change was when we phoned to order. Our number has always been recognised by the extremely friendly and efficient Chinese staff, who never had to be told our address. Last week we were answered by a really rude lady with a broad Brummy accent who seemed to struggle with the menu and not even know what was on it. When the food arrived, it was the worst Chinese meal we have ever had. The ribs, normally thick, juicy and in a tasty barbecue sauce, were very dry and fatty, like old meat in a thick, jelly-like substance, like treacle that had no flavour at all but was extremely salty. The spring rolls, normally in a light, crispy pastry stuffed with a fresh, moist & very tasty beansprout mixture, had a thick, stodgy, soggy pastry with tasteless, not at all fresh beansprouts. The prawn toast was just as bad: a layer of very dry, chewy, badly minced prawns with bits of shell in it just sitting rather than spread into the top of very dry toast. Again, it was tasteless but very salty. The pork dumplings were soggy pasty filled with a tasteless, gelatinous mixture, nothing like any pork filling we've ever had before. The Seaweed was overcooked and the fish flavour so overpowering that I gagged. The main courses were also truly awful. Rice noodles with pork (my favourite usually) were dry (the bits of pork that are usually juicy and fresh, were like scrap leftovers that had been sitting around for a couple of days. The Char Siu was not Char Siu at all. Char Siu is actually marinated then roast pork served sliced with a distinctive red colour around the edges and nothing else. What we got was boiled pork in a bland but salty glutinous sauce with vegetables. The beef dish was no better, with dry beef in a very thick very salty sauce that just tasted of soy sauce. The rice was probably the best dish but even that was overcooked but dry and crispy around the edges. I like my food salty and always add extra, to the dismay of my family, but even for me this meal was far too salty, I suppose to mask the lack of taste. To top it all there were no fortune cookies. Suffice to say that, after nearly 25 years, we are having to find a new Chinese takeaway as there is not a chance on earth that we will ever eat from Sezchuan House again, particularly given the 'dodgy' stomachs we all suffered through all night. The food reminded me of the kind of bland tasteless 'Chinese' food, full of monosodium glutomate, that was served in the 1970s when foreign food takeaways were unusual and most Brits thought vol-au-vents were sophisticated. If we could give Szechuan House zero stars, we would. Such a shame.
