Half Man! Half Burger! in Eastbourne

So sad to see this place damaged as it is....tragic. I hope that the people of Eastbourne and surrounding districts will come back and get fully behind this place when it re-opens. It is a fresh, funky and happening place with good quality fresh food and a vibrant atmosphere. We certainly will be back a.s.a.p. Good luck with the repairs.

I have been a few times and really enjoyed. This time however 1) the burgers needed seasoning pretty bland 2) the SO cooked fries were quite difficult to eat as bordering on burnt 3)I too struggle with loud, punk music...... Will give another go though..

I popped in here with a friend who had recommended what a great choice. the restaurant was bright and cheery. The staff were very friendly and explained the menu with great enthusiasm . I had the smoke stack whilst my mate had the chilli gonzales with a side order of fries to share. Both burgers were cooked just right. We washed the burgers down with a couple of pints of Half Man Half brother american pale ale. A great night all round would highly recommend it

Delicious burger but the chilli fries were a bit on the salty side. Not a fan of the punk music, but as stated the burger was delicious.

I would absolutely recommend The Halloumi fries which are delicious and great for sharing. I went with the Pickle of destiny which is currently their guest burger. It had a cheese crisp, beer pickles and double cheese. Drinks are also great if you like a locally sourced beer or ale.

Tried on the off chance for a table on Fathers day and were luckily accommodated straight away. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Our order was taken and fairly swiftly 2 of the 3 burgers arrived. The other burger arrived after a few minutes but no sign our our chilli fries we ordered to share. In fact my husband had almost finished his burger when i went to chase up the fries. When they did arrive they were amazing and a huge portion for us to share. The burgers were lovely and fries to die for but the actual food service was a little poor. I feel that the burgers and fries should all be delivered at the same time. We also never got the water we ordered too. Great meal but service a little lacking unfortunately.

This was our second visit & once again were not disappointed. We came back having visited previously (it did not take much persuasion) The menu is good and the venue has a pleasant ambiance. The staff are all friendly and seem to enjoy working there which sets it apart from certain chains. This isn’t cheap and I would say is comparable to the afore mentioned chains, the difference in my opinion is the quality and the feeling of it being cooked on a non industrial basis. You can see into the kitchen which is quite cool with quirky stuff on the walls. (They also sell branded merchandise if that is your thing) they seem to have a tie up with a local brewery and both the cider and IPA they had on tap was great. They seem to be fully geared up with a vegan menu which I know seems to be of growing importance and seemed to surprise some patrons. I would happily tackle another burger and literally demolished a massive burger with loads of extras, I like me burgers cooked towards the rare side and the burgers were pretty close to spot on. You can do a lot worse than a trip here!

Went to Eastbourne - the staff were awesome, casual decor with tasty food Ate TheBigCheese Burger less the lettuce - it was juicy and moist with full of flavour The Beef Chilli cheese fries were great too but be prepared it’s filling They do have a vegan and veggie meal options plus some local beer too hmbm keep everyone happy :) Definitely coming back

The beef burgers are great, however the chips were not my favourite the spices just didn't fit well with the fires. A MAJOR plusse however is that have a vegan burger menu on the same size as the regular one and the offer vegan cheese fries and milkshakes which is very unusual to find in any burger restaurant these days!

I went with my husband and two kids (3 and 7) on a Friday evening. The kids menu (£5) was really good, and it included a juice, burger and chips and the burger was a good size, even for my very tall 7 year old who can eat an adult's portion on occasion. I had a vegetarian halloumi burger with chips and my husband had a naked lunch burger with chips, both of these were of high quality. We were all stuffed at the end of the meal and didn't have any room for dessert!

We love the food in this place, never disappointed!!!!! Great food and atmosphere & best chips ever!!!!!

Been a customer of both Eastbourne and hastings for years, love this place and long may it continue!

I was really excited for this one, a trip out of Brighton into the unknown. A sneak peak at the menu before hand had me salivating for a Gonzo Burger! Whilst I waited for the rest of the gang to navigate the one way route and parking restrictions on the road the waitress bought me a pale ale which had a fruity flavour that was very refreshing. After the rest of the gang turn up and ordered the food came out surprisingly quickly which suggested it was pre made or being kept warm and therefore I think the taste suffered. Meat patties weren't all that great for flavour, one of our group suggesting it had a bit of a eurosausage undertone that wasn't all that satisfying. Buns were a bit soggy from all the grease before you started to eat, once again suggesting the kept warm theory. Rosemary fries, clever idea but poorly executed. As once again they had no bite or crunch, still at least we could dip them and I'm glad we did because we were certainly charged for the bbq dip oddly the mayo was free, which just seemed petty on the bill. Looking around you could see that it was very popular on a Friday evening as most tables were taken and people were popping in for takeaways however the decor was a little non descriptive. Posters down stairs looked very much like a 7 bone copy cat idea and it could do with establishing its own personality. All in all a very forgettable burger and experience which was a big shame. I guess the lack of competition for trendy burger joint in Eastbourne is keeping the bar low in comparison to the rest of the south coast.

We visit regularly and always welcomed by amazing and friendly staff! Guest burgers are always inventive and tasty and a huge range of burgers including loads of vegan/veggie options. Chilli cheese fries are super tasty and overall composition of burgers are well thought out. Great value for money and a consistently great meal!

Finally had a chance to try HM!HB! after being recommended by family and friends who have eaten here. It lived up to expectations! Restaurant was packed so were glad we'd booked. Our group enjoyed the monthly special 'Super Curry Animal' burger as well as the regular 'Gonzo' burgers. The 'Half Man Half Brother' locally brewed ale lived up to the description of a 'crazy amount of flavour' with what I'd describe as a fruity / lime note. Rounded meal off with the Snickers pie which was also very good. Staff very friendly and helpfully suggested we share some fries around the group which was helpful.

Another great meal, burgers cooked to perfection, juicy and tasty, chilli beef loaded fries cannot be beaten and all for a very reasonable price. We will be back again soon

Went to HMHB as our regular favourite burger place was fully booked. Had a nice vibe and staff were super friendly. They explained things and were speed with taking our order. Food arrived fast but clearly fresh.

We've been here a few times now and it’s easily our favourite burger place around. The food is amazing, the service is brilliant and the staff are so friendly and helpful. They do really good vegan shakes which is great for anyone who is dairy free (boozy versions available as well). The music is always on point and the decor is great. Would recommend to anyone.

I really enjoyed the burger but wasn’t crazy about th sides. The coleslaw didn’t really have a huge amount of flavour and was a little overpriced at £3. The chips were the result of lots of effort but again, weren’t the greatest. For the cost of he sides I could have had a second burger and this is what I’d do next time.

We’ve been a few times and although we prefer other burger joints in Eastbourne we thought we’d give HMHB another go.

Forget Five Guy’s, Shake Shack, Gourmet Burger or Byron. Half Man Half Burger is the best I’ve had and trust me I’ve tried a few in my time. Friendly staff, great food! You haven’t had a proper burger until you’ve tried Half Man Half Burger!

I had tasted the burgers from here before having ordered online, but really enjoyed eating in the restaurant this evening for my daughter’s birthday. Burgers were tasty, and fries with no rosemary were easily accommodated. I was allowed to try the pale ale before ordering, and really enjoyed the atmosphere, aided by the friendliness of the staff. The seating is at bench style tables, which was only a problem when I wanted to leave and had to ask the two people next to me to get up. Music was also pretty loud for conversation over the table, but I will definitely go back. It made my daughter’s day so thankyou staff at HMHB.

Excellent service from the staff, after ordering what could be described as confusing to say the least, the staff pandered to my needs and served with haste. Good selection of beer too, overall I will recommend

With the hype of HMHB coming to Eastbourne we thought it was gonna be amazing. The seating is so weird, no set tables, just long benches and your running shoulders with strangers! Also, burger no flavour and chips covered is rosemary, just wasn’t pleasant! To finish off you can wipe your hands on the kitchen roll.

Popped in here for a quick bite with a friend and it sure didn't disappoint. I hate overcooked burgers and here they were perfect- just how I like them! The burgers are large and the fries come in generous portions (definitely enough to share between two!) I like the atmosphere here too, friendly and relaxed- not trying to be too fancy. Great for friends, family and couples- would definitely return again.

Visited with my partner on Friday 18th January. We arrived near to closing time at about 9:20pm but were never made to feel rushed.

We celebrated my Mum's 66th birthday last night with a trip to HMHB in Eastbourne.

Took my family last Sunday as I had such a great visit last time. Was exceptional again, food is amazing and service outstanding. Will definatly return again.

Love the halloumi burgers, they are amazing. Reckon you could share half each Fries always without the rosemary which suits our test but absolutely delicious Atmosphere great. Service great and for a change there was free parking available

I've been a fair few times to Half Man now and have left feeling happy every single time. Great service and amazing burgers. Currently loving the cajun chicken one, but the double beef patties are also great

Popped in on the spur of the moment. From the moment we got in until, we left, we had impeccable service from Jack, he was brilliant. My wife had Cheeseburger and fries, I had the veggie equivalent and cheesy vegan fries, I have to say that it was probably the best veggie burger I have had. Recommend this place, good veggie, vegan choices more than most burger places in Eastbourne.

Anyone giving this place less that 5 stars and a rave review either works for a rival restaurant or has major taste bud malfunction. This place is fantastic - super tasty burgers and the most perfect fries. Brilliant street food style ambience and attentive and friendly staff. Plus it’s a locally owned business so get in and support them people!

I really enjoy this place. I'm gluten free and I'm well catered for here. The burgers are fresh and tasty, we also had the rosemary fries and coleslaw.

We returned after a 15 month break and are pleased to say that the food and service are just as good. This is a well oiled machine on both fronts, i.e. the front-of house staff are welcoming and knowledgeable. All food was served fresh and hot, a real delight, considering that the restaurant was full and people were being turned away this was miraculous.

2nd trip here and in honestly think that this the best burger joint in town. Great service great food and all pretty reasonably priced. Well worth a trip. Just book first as always super busy

Came in for dinner and have no complaints. Very fast service as well as lovely staff. The famous burgers lived up to standard and the portions were a generous size.

I’m not generally one to be excited by a burger and chips, but good lord this place is amazing! I had the vegan guest burger, which was a bean burger with tempura pickles. The patty was rich and dark and crumbly without being dry and there was just enough sauce and salad in a good quality bun. The tempura pickles were were skewed to the top and were one of the most pleasing things I have ever eaten! The batter was incredibly Light and crisp and the pickles wonderfully piquant.

5 stars all round from my fiancé, friends and I. Attentive service from the minute we walked in, provided with water straight away whilst deciding what to eat. Checked up on regularly (but not intrusively) to make sure we were happy/needed anything by the friendly and efficient staff. The milkshakes were amazing, easily the best I’ve ever tasted - I had the mocha - incredible. Our burgers were also outstanding, 3 vegans and 1 vegetarian and we all had plenty of choice rather than just one token menu offering. Vegan cheese fries again were incredible. Can’t wait to come back again when visiting friends, best meal out I’ve had in ages!

Had a really great evening at HMHB. The staff were super friendly and relaxed, just letting you take your time with no pressure.

Amazing food freshly cooked and served, amazing service from niki A********* Would highly recommend coming here, stuff Mac Donald’s come here instead, ps you must order some of the standard fries which are double fried and salted and sprinkled with corriander.

We shared a portion of fries with rosemary (tasty) and a crispy chicken burger and it was big enough for two and quite good. Kids had burger and fries. Staff were nice but we had to wait around 20 min. And it wasn’t that busy (only 2 other tables with people) and with two bored hungry young kids, so it was a long wait. Luckily We were able to use our student discount cards for some of the meal which was good.

Thus small burger place is hidden in the Eastbourne city centre, quite close to the train station. The relaxed atmosphere and friendly young team makes you feel very welcomed. My friend and I both have The Big Cheese burger and one huge portion of chips was enough for us both. Don't forget to try their own beer Half man! Half burger! - it's amazing!

The chips come packed with rosemary on top and are lovely. Really enjoy the burgers from here so as a family we have visited a few times.

So after hearing from a fee friends that this place did the best burgers, me and my other half finally went and tried them ( he's been nagging for months)

I came here with my grandchildren who have complex dietary requirements. The staff were very happy to accommodate their needs and checked about any other requirement that they may have. The burgers were fantastic and the double fried, rosemary salted fries are to die for. I had the gonzo burger with the Memphis Screamin’ Whisky BBQ sauce which was mega tasty. I’m already planning a return visit.

We have been to Half Man several times and I am a big fan of their Devils fingers Halloumi with the superb BBQ whiskey dip. I wanted to try the new pizza burger they have currently on special and it did not disappoint. The mix of burger with Marinara sauce, crispy shallots and Monterey Jack cheese on a garlic bread bun just works. Service friendly and efficient as always.

Fun and easy-going, young vibe but mixed ages and types there, was fun.

Food was tasty but really not enough, the burgers are tiny and extremely overrated. They are also overpriced. You also have to pay 50p for sauce in a shot glass (which is extremely small) including mayonnaise and bbq sauce which I think is out of order! The only sauces you get free is ketchup, mustard and hot sauce. Staff were very nice it’s just a shame about the portion sizes. There are better places in Eastbourne to go and get a burger for double the size, some places even do buy one get one free burgers on certain days and don’t reduce their sizes and it still works out cheaper than this place! You also have to pay extra for fries as they don’t come with the burger. Also there are only 2 desert choices which are at £6 each which in my opinion is overpriced. Won’t be visiting again. Again staff were lovely it really isn’t their fault, left them a tip.

The food was good, the chips were very yummy and the milkshakes were amazing but they placed us on a table with a couple and a young family and we were sort of ha going of the end and having to move out of the way of other guests constantly. Wasn’t the most relaxing of meals I have ever had

The menu looked great and was pretty comprehensive with lots of nice sides and a small cocktail and beer selection. The food looked great...but theres an added something in the burger patties that spoils everything. Its definitely not just beef salt and pepper....theres something else that i cannot identify that make them taste odd....may just be me but the taste isn't traditional. Staff friendly and atmosphere good....but its important that the burgers taste good..and they didn't.

This was the 2nd time we have eaten here and again the food was excellent, the burgers were meaty, tasty, juicy and cooked to your liking. Chilli beef fries with cheese, sour cream, coriander and fresh chilli slices are absolutely gorgeous.

We ate hear last night as a birthday treat from my daughter and her boyfriend. Both myself and my wife are vegans, and it was nice to go somewhere with a choice. The service and he food were impeccable and we will be returning very soon. Thanks for a lovely evening.

Amazing place, amazing food, amazing staff. We are regulars here, even brought people from London just for burgers and they absolutely loved it. Our favourites are the gonzo buyer, devil's fingers and the fries are to die for.

I love a burger. I really had high hopes for this place but alas was not meant to be. Well over priced! Staff didn't seem engaged with the customers. altogether poor

Visited here today and was really really pleased! We arrived and were greeted by very friendly staff, had a nice table for two tucked away in the corner, we ordered burger fries and a drink each and it all was lovely, very tasty and plentiful the chilli cheese fries is a meal by itself! The burgers were great and my wife said the shake was the best milkshake she’d ever had! We will definitely be returning at some point. Half man, Half burger is definitely better than 7 bone that’s across town...

Lovely food, would definitely recommend. The gonzo burger is by far the best, best go on an empty stomach. Service is usually quick and the staff are very polite. The portion size of the chips are huge, would recommend getting one between two.

Hungry after a days work, thought i'll treat myself to a burger and chips.................. The bun was hard and stale, the chips was over cooked the patties were small but tasty. Won't see me again. Skipped it and went to McDonald's

Burgers are the best I’ve ever had, juicy, meaty and very tasty, beef chilli cheese fries are fantastic, a meal on their own, as a couple I recommend to get the XL portion as there is plenty, we had milkshakes and they were great.

Three of us visited on a Sat evening, the restaurant was almost full.

Had long been waiting to visit the sister branch but was Christmas shopping in Eastbourne witth the kids and decided to grab the opportunity. We arrived just after opening so were easily seated but can imagine this gets busy. Presented with a glass of water while we looked at the menu which i thought was a nice touch. Unfortunately they don't serve hot drinks but a nice range of reasonably priced drinks. Food was served promptly. Portions of fries are huge even if they Are the most amazing chips ever we couldn't finish them. Burgers were beautifully cooked and very tasty. Staff lovely. Would recommend

Couldn’t help but stop by for lunch. Warmest welcome from all staff, very helpful and gave their own advice with the menu when asked. Wonderful local Sussex beef burgers, Craft beer from local brewery. Supporting the local community to the maximum. Wonderful!

Visited with some friends, I had heard a lot of good things about this place but I am very hard to please!

Had a great meal of cheeseburger and a huge portion of chips. All of the ingredients were amazingly fresh, and the chips had been seasoned with rosemary so smelled delicious when they were brought to the table. The Half Man Half Burger house was lovely - had a fresh citrus flavour - highly recommended. The restaurant layout is good too, there are a couple of tables with 2 seats and a few large tables where you sit with other diners, so you get to chat to people, which you wouldn't normally do, creating a friendly atmosphere. The staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Will definitely visit again soon.

Awesome food, friendly service and an all round great place! We have been a couple of times and each time different dishes have been great. Good prices too.

My first visit, with a friend and his dog. I was amazed when the friendly waitress asked if the dog wanted a doggy burger - and he was given one. This is a trendy place, with good music (if you don't mind a bit of soft rock). The burgers were great and the chips crispy, some with skin on - nice. Condiments were already on the table - ketchup, chilli sauce etc. With a great pint of draught Budvar.

It's difficult with these gourmet burger places. It is all down to personal preference, and had we visited HMHB first, then we may have marked it so much better. It isn't that HMHB is poor, it's just that having visited 7 Bone Burger in Eastbourne first, HMHB didn't do it for us the same way. The rosemary fries are lovely, but the burgers themselves are smaller and the taste just isn't as defined. I'm sorry HMHB but I'll stick to 7 Bone when I'm in Eastbourne.

Get here however you can, I would definitely recommend Half Man! Half Burger! in Eastbourne... Everything was good here and a place that gives you "TWO" beef patties is surely worth a visit?! The fries again, enough for an army and so freshly cooked and hot we had to wait until they had cooled slightly to eat them, delicious. For me, everything was reasonably priced and definitely worth the drive from Brighton to Eastbourne. Try it, I think some of you will also love it! Well done HM! HB! you get my vote!

Just as wonderful as the Hastings site. Quality food, really friendly and efficient, great music on a decent sound system. The ‘side’ of beef chilli cheese fries - small version - was immense! Do people really manage this as a side? We had it as a main along with a great burger and still took most of it home! And what fantastic value too, just brilliant.

CLEAN, TIDY, GOOD MUSIC!, EVEN PLAYED TIM BUCKLY! However, I did think it was overpriced! 27£ for Burger and chips! To be fair the chips were great! Can I suggest a half-price day for people over 60 !! And play some 70s music!!

It’s been a while since I’ve been to a restaurant which has really impressed me and my partner, usually we get good food but the wait or the service let’s the whole experience down...not the case here.

My 12 year old Grandson's favourite eatery, in town, and any excuse to visit is found...if we can get a table! They don't take reservations, so, first come, first served, etc. Well worth the risk, though, as it is always buzzing & often you have to 'snuggle-up' next to other guests on their long tables...great fun. Their Gourmet-burgers are stunning, with rosemary-fries extra (huge, so get one between two...?) and home-made coleslaw. Their own, micro-brew ale is great, too, to wash it all down. Allow plenty of time as everything is freshly prepared, and there are wooden-puzzles to play with, as you wait. Great idea.

Wow what can I say, loved it. Been waiting to try you out, don't know what took me so long. I will be back shortly. Food is to die for. Burger is so tasty. Chips are coated in Rosemary salt love it. Cheeky. My family enjoyed your establishment very much and will be back soon. We live in Hastings and haven't managed to get to Marine Court yet but will def be making it our local now. Well done

Friend and I was in Town today for lunch and decided on half man half burger. Very tasty burgers and really liked the complementary glass of water with lemon and ice. Service very quick only 10 minutes from ordering. The server girl Jade was extremely friendly and helpful. One thing I think this establishment could do is serve chips with all there burgers, be more of a meal then. Nice to see 3 different vegetarian burgers on the menu, unlike most other places that just have the 1.

Came here in August with my kids and hubby. Ordered, great service but didn't think to much of the food. Far too much rosemary on the chips and the burgers weren't out of this world. Maybe I was expecting too much? Not sure but give it a go....see what you think

Nice menu, especially good for vegetarians as there are 3 burgers to choose from. 1 portion of chips could feed 2-3 people. I was the only person in my group not keen on rosemary on chips, but they can omit the rosemary next time I visit to cater for my taste. Amazing deep fried halloumi and whisky BBQ sauce. Kids meal deal burger was great value and suitable for my 7 & 10 year old. We love music, but it was a bit too loud for us, we'd sit away from the speaker next time.

This is a really nice little place. I'm not really all that keen with sharing a table with complete strangers, but that is my only issue, it makes sense seeing as it's a pretty small place but its just not for me. The food however was really nice, portion size is good and the burgers were amazing. I will go again, but it's a bit pricey for me and it can be hard to get a table at times. I highly recommend it. Its YUMMY. :)

This eatery came highly recommended by friends so thought we would try. The seating is basic rather like an old works canteen! The staff are friendly but at busy times do appear overwhelmed. The music is really rather loud and if, like me,have hearing aids can make it hard to follow conversations - it does not need to be so loud. All of that being said the food is excellent - I had a veggie option which was tasty and filling. The other two meals were meat - wife and son were impressed. The fries with rosemary were well seasoned and were a hit with us all. One portion between three we thought was adequate. I particularly liked the quality gin and tonic. The toilets are downstairs and would be virtually impossible for patrons with mobility issues to negotiate. Likewise I suspect wheelchairs would have a few problems with gaining access - although not impossible. Toilets are clean but not spotless. Overall a great burger joint that with better staffing at busy times could be more than excellent. Would definitely go back.

Have been going to HMHB in Hastings for some time, and the Eastbourne Branch ever since it opened, queuing up outside on opening day and receiving free burgers was great!

Definitely the best burgers in town, had the halloumi burger which was great and the fries were also really good. Great environment, though I recommend it more for younger people even though it's good for families and older people too. But the music is quite loud and it's more a simple style to the decor. But everyone should try it out, so worth it.

Lucky to get seated as just after we sat down, a stream of customers filled the restaurant.

Okay I've heard a lot about HMHB and it turns out it's true. Yup its manic but the food is amazing and truly worth the very modest prices. Would eat there every day if I could...

My first visit to HMHB and it certainly won't be the last. A very good burger in nice no thrills surroundings. Can't wait to go back.

We went here as my wife had heard about it and it was her birthday so she gets to choose! Our group of four liked the choice. Two daughters, 12 and 8, wife and I.

Popped in midweek. Relatively busy. Served promptly by friendly staff. Good range of beers to choose from. My mojito was excellent! Burgers were cooked to order and were delicious. Chips were lovely, the rosemary was a nice surprise. Please note: for those that can't cope with heat - the 'slaw packs a punch. Hubby was thrilled. Three clean plates and happy to return.
