Totally inedible food. We ordered pork balls, impossible to Chew. The salt and pepper chips contained a tiny piece of pepper and same with onion. We put the food in the bin. Also cash only payment accepted. Really disappointed as we had just journeyed 120 miles and no alternative to eat in the area.

Been getting takeaways from here regularly for the last 10 years, initially when I lived locally and in recent years when working locally. Hasn't changed at all, menu stays the same and it's a little on the pricey side, and cash only which is a pain. But plenty of choice, big portions and most of the offerings are nice enough, standard Chinese takeaway fare

Really impressive to find a Chinese takeaway of this standard in the remote corners of the Scottish Highlands. The staff were really friendly and the food was really good as well as the portions being of a good size. What's particularly impressive about this establishment is that it is open all year round rather than just for tourists season, which must be quite difficult to do. So hats off to the endurance of the owners

We ate from this Chinese take away 3 or 4 years ago and back then the food was faultless. We were staying in Gairloch this weekend and decided to have another takeaway from here. Not sure if the chef or ownership has changed since our last time, but I had number 37 off the menu with egg fried rice and it was horrible. Loads of garlic, chicken over done and tough, fried rice very salty. Should have been listed as Garlic leather as that would have been a better description to what was served. I wot be eating from here again

I have eaten food from literally hundreds of Chinese restaurants and take aways, and have to congratulate this Chinese take away as being the worst ever. Food was disgusting. Chips that were hard and inedible, chicken balls with the batter burnt so bad you could almost break your teeth eating them, the smallest portion of sauce ever, not to mention overpriced. We came to order a takeaway for two, we were met with a pretty grubby kitchen and waiting area and two screaming children who were being looked after by the lady taking the orders. After ordering (from a far too long menu) we resorted to waiting outside where it was much quieter. As in the title, the Singapore noodles were reasonably good but everything else was pretty drab. Clearly very few fresh ingredients had been used, especially the almost translucent chicken in ginger and spring onion sauce. Also, the vegetable spring rolls were tiny, had no filling in them and were tasteless - obviously frozen, probably like the rest of the food. Overall, pretty disappointing and would suggest that the owners drastically reduce the size of the menu and focus on using fresh ingredients (which while expensive, are definitely available in Gairloch). As with most takeaways, of course we over-ordered, however unlike others the leftovers were thrown away rather than eaten the next day. Note that this is cash only, not necessarily a drawback given the remote locale. PS. Whoever assesses food standards/cleanliness should definitely pay this takeaway a visit...

Chinese Takeaways can be hit or miss - as we'd been out on a long day we decided to try Hai Yang. My wife had a Singapore Rice Noodle and I had a Special Fried Rice and we shared honey spare ribs. The food was far tastier than a lot of city takeaways we've tried and we feel the people of Gairloch and area are lucky to have this place! The food quantities were large and we were unable to finish it all. Both the noodle and rice dishes came packed with generous quantities of meat - a couple of large juicy prawns in each plus a lot of chicken strips and so on. A definite recommendation from us!

The food was prepared quickly I had sweet and sour. Hi Ken Hong Kong style it tasted ok although it wasn't the best I've ever had, the other meals weren't fantastic and the prawn crackers tasted like they'd been cooked days ago.I was a bit disappointed and felt I had wasted my money as most of this went in the bin. It was nice to find a takeaway tucked away in a carpark in Gairloch! We obviously arrived at a good time as it was quite quiet when we ordered but by the time our meal was ready the place was mobbed! The Kung po spare ribs were delicious and worth every penny but the sweet and sour chicken in batter was a bit of a disappointment. Not served as an actually meal, you have to order chicken balls and then sweet and sour sauce. The sauce was £2 and it was the smallest tub I think I've ever seen! NOT value for money. The chicken balls were huge fillets of chicken but the batter was soggy and you could almost squeeze the oil out of them. The other dishes were lovely and did represent value for money.

We often have a Chinese takeaway at home so we were pleased to notice the Hai Yang menu at the holiday cottage we were in at Gairloch. Unfortunately, my boyfriend wanted duck but apparently the night he went his duck choice was unavailable so he had my usual, beef with green pepper & blackbean sauce, I have boiled rice, he had the egg fried. He also chose salt & pepper chicken wings, I am not a lover of these myself but he said they were tasty. Have to admit I really enjoyed my meal, I always thought my home town had the best Chinese takeaways but the Hai Yang can give them a run for their money! I was amazed how quickly he returned with meal too, at home we always expect a long wait. So pleased we found that menu!

We were staying at the nearby Sands campsite and fancied something a bit different. We thought we were taking our lives into our hands by trying a Chinese takeaway tucked away in one of the remotest parts of the HIghlands, but we needn't have worried. The food was very good, I always opt for the mixed curry as that tends to give you a decent view of the quality of the rest of the menu....my wife had crispy chilli beef. The curry was excellent - the sauce was spot on - not too thin and certainly not the overly thick, MSG-laden, variety you get in many takeaways! The prawns, beef, pork and vegetables in the curry were also spot on. My wife's chilli beed was also very good - and crispy! Again, something many restuarants seem to forget! All in all, maybe not the best I've ever had.....but top 5 anyway which, given its location, is amazing!

We drove 45 minutes from our vacation rental to get takeaway from Hai Yang. There were seven of us, ages 16 to 73. The lady taking orders was very curt and unfriendly to my husband and I, when we asked questions. Having eaten Chinese food at various locations all over the world, we knew dishes weren't always the same as we are used to in the U.S. When asked if the sweet and sour pork came with rice she snapped, "No, it only come with pork. You want rice, you order rice." I asked if the special had lots of vegetables she snapped again, "Of course!" We ordered several dishes, including spring rolls. Our companions also ordered and we all waited for our food. Another couple came in to pick up their order. The lady couldn't have been sweeter to them. When we picked up our food, she wouldn't even speak to us. We arrived at our cottage to find neither soy sauce nor duck sauce was included. We all agreed we probably would have asked, but didn't want to get snapped at again. I think she should have asked if we needed soy sauce or duck sauce. As we talked about our experience, we found out she had been even ruder to the oldest member of our group. If I had known the way she talked to this sweet woman, I would have left without ordering. We were all well traveled and kind people. We don't talk treat people poorly. To tell a customer, "I already tell you 2 times." In response to a question, is poor customer service. The food was at best mediocre. I kept the menu, just so I could write a review and warn other travelers. Fortunately, this was the only bad experience we had during our 2 weeks in Scotland.

This is our "local" Chinese restaurant. Since it opened we have found it to be always clean, good value and delicious. The staff are polite and friendly. It seems to be popular with visitors, but every time I've been in there have been a healthy smattering of locals placing orders as well. This would not happen unless the food was consistently of good quality. The vegetables are fresh, nothing is swimming in grease as per some previous reviewers and everything is generous.

Lovely staff. Friendly, talkative Chinese lady who took our order and chatted while her husband prepared the food. Excellent value for money and large portions. Can recommend this take away if you are up in the area self-catering.

The ribs and spring rolls were yummy. Two of the other dishes were also tasty. However the sauce in the Thai curry was very watery.

Hubby had barbecue spare ribs and king prawn curry and fried rice. He said they were both lovely. I had chicken with cashew nuts and fried rice which had fatty skin still attached and was tasteless. The sauce was like dish water. Fried rice was £3 a portion. For a takeaway it was expensive. I suppose it's just your luck which dish you choose, mine went in the bin.

Chinese food at its worst . Overpriced and almost in edible . You could even taste that the cooking oil was old .

This is take away only. not a sit-in restaurant. However, it's a superbly well run small family business and very friendly. The staff prepared a huge carry out for us in about 15 minutes, we paid and went for a walk and when we returned it was all there boxed and ready to go with enough (FREE) prawn crackers to feed us alone. You can phone in your order then go to pick it up. Everything was freshly cooked and very delicious. A superb efficient service and you can watch your food being prepared. A nice clean big waiting area and comfortable. Great food enjoyed by all. Very good selection and we had a feast to remember. We will be back, the king prawn satay dish was one to remember and I'll be having that again next time I'm in Gairloch. 6 stars ******

A bit more expensive than we'd normally pay but very good food and excellent service. We would definitely go back next time we were in the area.

I've reviewed the place before and gave it the thumbs up. It was just as good this time too. Quite a little gem to find in such a wee place.

Lovely takeaway with a wide choice on the menu. Only waited 10 minutes for our order, quite a few orders coming through by phone for pickup. Could not fault friendliness of young lad taking orders, very chatty and polite . Portions are very generous and well worth the price

Wrong order... bad fatty over cooked/undercooked suspicious meats. Banging prawn crackers I must say. Possible open a Prawn cracker store. Might be better than poisoning tourist.

First of all, I have to point out that I'm not sure if I should be more angry at those who made this "food" or at me, who also thought I should eat it. I should have turned around straight away and gone to bed hungry. The signs were all there. From the outside, the shop looked as if it had closed, the "menu" on DinA4 sheets in neon colors slapped on the wall. There wasn't a single Asian person to be seen in an Asian snack bar. The mixed appetizer platter consisted of pieces of fish, 2 different spring rolls, wontons, and spare ribs. Everything except the spare ribs (which had maybe 30g of meat in total) were fried beyond recognition and came with a neon-colored sweet and sour sauce. The Peking soup was the worst I've ever had and it had as much to do with Beijing as I had with the South Pole. I also ordered the Korean noodles with “roasted duck”... I'll probably never understand what the duck is supposed to be roasted. It doesn't matter because I definitely won't be ordering anything there again. I don't want to bash anyone here, I know very well how difficult it is to have to earn a living in the catering industry. But there are things that don't work. If you can't do something then you have to get help.
