Nestled in the picturesque Melfort village, this charming eatery is an ideal spot for a casual bite or a leisurely evening meal. With its serene surroundings and inviting ambience, it provides a perfect setting for a memorable dining experience. The friendly and attentive staff further enhances the overall atmosphere. Be sure to indulge in the delectable seabass – it comes highly recommended!

This establishment is highly recommended for dining. The youthful staff are delightful, displaying amiable and courteous service. Despite being a small team, they consistently deliver exceptional service. My wife and I really enjoyed our visit.

During our visit the food wasn’t terrible however the kids meal we ordered for our 4 year old did not arrive with our main course despite also having starters before the main courses, ordered a hot dog, the ‘hot dog’ that was received was more like a plant based sausage that was rushed through, if this was normal it should be advised on the menu so a suitable choice can be made. An adult could be understanding but a 4 year old struggles to understand why she wasn’t getting her dinner and everyone else had theirs. When the adult main courses were served the starter plates hadn’t been removed, would believe the waiter was inexperienced and had not received any training. Very disappointed!!!!

Enjoyed an evening drink sitting on the outdoor balcony followed by dinner sitting inside among the pleasant decor and relaxed atmosphere. We both enjoyed fish of the day (sea bass) on a leek and potato mash with broccoli. All very well prepared. We appreciated the good service. Good selection of wines, gin and draft beer.

Outstanding service. I was looking for a lunch stop on a motorcycling trip around Scotland and came across this cafe/restaurant by accident. I sent an enquiry and Ann-Marie offered to open early for us. Great service and food in a scenic setting. Would heartily recommend and I will certainly be calling again when next in the area. Thanks Ann-Marie.

Myself and my husband are just back form melfort village. We had dinner in the gunpowder and it was fantastic!!! The staff are so friendly and helpful. I had the seabass with garlic potatoes and it was honestly one of the best meals I've had. Would highly recommend visiting for a meal and a beer.

Fabulous meal here. Simple, straightforward and delicious. Perfectly cooked steaks by local delightful staff with a well managed, varying menu. This new venture deserves to do very well; as regular visitors to the area we’ll be back again.

I call it Debbie's place - you'll know it when you see it! - said several of the locals on Islay. A large group of us visiting the island had spent the morning dotted across it doing various different activities. I'd asked in the brilliant Islay Natural History Trust where locally we could grab lunch and was directed to the Bruichladdich Mini Market. The place itself is run by Debbie, her mum and her sister. It's the ort of place that is the lifeblood of islands the world over - half grocery shop, half cafe - all welcoming. Debbie's sister was in charge when a group of 15 of us rocked up unannounced. This would normally not have been a problem - plenty of outside seating - but that particular day the ferry had been cancelled, along with much of the stock for the shop and cafe. Undeterred the staff there made us feel welcome and pulled together a lunch which went down very well with all - children and adults alike. Think sandwiches and toasties with great coffee and a good choice of cold drinks. They also serve some amazing cakes - I'm told the rocky road was fab, I know the chocolate cake was! Although initially under pressure when we all turned up, the staff seated us happily and we had all eaten within about 15 minutes of arriving.

Visited to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The setting on the shore of Loch Fyne overlooking the ruin of Castle Lachlan is stunning and we were able to enjoy a bottle of fizz outside our shepherds huts where we would be spending the night. After a late afternoon stroll to the castle ruins we were ready for our dinner. The tasting menu served in the evening is locally sourced and is probably the best I have ever tasted. We chose the wine pairing which was excellent and presented beautifully. After a great nights sleep breakfast is delivered to your accommodation and this is another delight. Cannot fault this place
