Attended private function. The room smelled a bit foosty. The bar staff had no idea! Didn't pay the same price for a round. £3 for a can of coke and the 'Prosecco' was rank.

Had a delightful afternoon tea with 2 friends (a gift from one of my sons). Everything was very fresh and the staff were very attentive. It was my first visit but hopefully not my last

Prices extortionate total ripp off won't be back

Visited here with my parents on an Itison voucher for an afternoon tea.From start to finish everything was amazing. The staff were so attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. The afternoon tea was excellent. We have been to many and this was outstanding. Thank you also for changing our table from a two to a three at the last minute.

The food and service were excellent. There is a great variety on the menu but I can highly recommend the Thai menu. The Thai green curry was amazing.

Lovely welcome, good portion size. Food piping hot 👍 house wine affordable. But one menu no difference in price from lunch to evening. Can recommend afternoon tea also very good.

I took my mum along for afternoon tea for her birthday and it was lovely. Could not fault the service that we received from Tina. The food was delicious and we will be back to try the Thai night.

Great service, staff excellent going out of their way to ensure we had a good time. We were a large party, including young children, and they coped very well, being very patient with us and very accommodating.

Just home from having a wonderful family meal at the Orchid. There were 8 of us dining, we all had something different from the menu and everything was delicious. The service was excellent. We will definitely be back.

Great curry, however they no longer have a liquor licence (you can bring your own), but the non alcoholic beer I had was not very palatable. Much prefer a pint of Tiger with my meal and there plenty of other Indian restaurants with licences. Now closed permanently

Absolutely would not recommend. Worst meal we've ever had. After researching it had good reviews. Absolutely empty at 8.30 on a Saturday night. After speaking to locals they’ve said it’s gone downhill. The garlic nann they have been serving since 1947 is bright green and food not of decent quality.

Superb takeaway at reasonable price

I had my covid wedding here back in October. Really didnt want to do a review but the utter disgraceful manner of the owner has made me do this. Following on from my husbands Qasim Ahmed review. 1. You have been a long standing restaurant owner but the first time jumping into wedding planning - No previous experience. He has no business running weddings and trying to offer things to make a quick buck when his restaurant is failing. 2. Health and safety is a priority? Is that why ive known on several occasions you had over too many people attend weddings at your venue where then police were called. Or the wedding where you booked both the small room and restuarant to gain full capacity. Your main aim was not get yourself caught and fined! 3. You did make guests feel unwelcome - especially the photographer and molvi. Where you hadnt provided enough food/drink or even prior to the wedding rudely being dealt with in an attempt to make them quit even though they were part of our 20 guests. As i remember you were trying to push me into going with a photographer of your choosing a few days prior to the wedding (again in an attempt to make a few extra bucks). 4. £100 per person was what you said, i have proof that was what was quoted. You shaved some off i agree, but my deposit was also sitting with you. Never got that luxury experience one would have with £100 per person, my suppliers definately never. 5. Food i admit has been good in previous attempts, but you never addressed the fact why you would not make enough food for the people coming to the wedding. Main courses for a table of 6-8 in something you would hand over to a table of 2. Which is nothing short of embarrassing. You had issues whenthe photographers were sitting down having food. At the end of the day, they were our guests whether they were working or not, but everyone deserves respect regardless of what profession they are. 6. You said you blocked me after receiving numerous messages harrassing you. I added a comment on one picture - advising i would not recommend you. I was blocked on both facebook and instagram, not only me but my family were blocked on facebook. I added a review from my husbands account which got attention and then you proceeded to block him too. You need to be able to receive the bad reviews aswell as the good. How will anybody else know whether to go with you. 7. You agreed one/two weeks prior that i could still have the supplier to set up my stage for my wedding which was originally booked for upstairs. Then you went into business with Abda and wanted to take profit raising the price per head to accomodate this. Where would you have put the stage that she made for your weddings if not to use them as you had no room. Why let somebody else do something you could make commission from? Lining your pockets at any turn! 8. You do know that weddings need to be booked atleast a month prior, so relevant paperwork is ready for the wedding. And having a venue confirmed is a big part of the wedding notice. So saying you have flexibility is yes i agree you do. But finalising wedding details a week prior (pricing, suppliers etc), giving people a big shock with pricing or refusal of external suppliers and them not having any other options is not a big life saver as you might think. Would not EVER be back! Disgracful owner! Reputation is going downhill. Remember all businesses have negative reviews, but not all owners hide this by blocking customers opinions. I have heard bad comments about other weddings done since covid, but none of them have been vocal, or maybe blocked before they can say anything. Best wishes to whoever decides to hold a wedding here but would not recommend in the slightest.

Would not recommend this venue for weddings. Extremely overpriced for what is offered. £100 per person and forced to choose their inhouse decor to make up the high price. Everything from terrible service, to making guests unwelcome to causing problems with already booked suppliers. Food overcooked and falling apart. Not enough food made to accomodate tables, meaning a table of 6 was presented with curries ideal for a duo. photographers were made to feel no welcome and no dismissed. With it being my wedding day the owner Azhar did nothing short of stressing the wife out on the build up of the wedding. Extremely disappointed with their behaviour and how they took advantage over covid. If the day went perfectly well the day of the wedding, i would dismiss my review but can not in good concious let them pretend like they are an amazing choice for a wedding. They even had audacity to block my wife from the facebook and instagram page to avoid me telling real truths. Also, a review from Fozia Butt a few down will provide further details. The business has also been reported to the correct authorities due to the overpricing during covid which is illegal. Going from £30 per head for 150 people - £4500 to a covid wedding at £100 per head for 20 people. something doesnt look quite right with this business. Earning profits off the backs of the vulnerable in times of need. i would recommend anyone with similar issues to report to the CMA! Ps. I wouldn't even give one star

Excellent meal. Ordered a carry out meal. Excellent value and a lovely set meal for two. Good selection and will definitely use the Gulistan again. Well recommended.

Quiet takeaways only at the moment

Ordered a delivery and was told 45 minutes 2 hours later it arrived and the excuse was because of the weather (only light rain) do they cook outside??? Disappointed to the delivery time and excuse Won't be back!!!

Ordered a madras for collection 2 days ago and brought it home. By the time I had run errands and come to open it, it was a masala not a madras. I contacted them through their website but have had no response or offer to amend it. Deeply disappointed.

One of my favourite places for a curry

It was very quiet in the restaurant when we at there early on a Sunday evening. The food was well cooked, hot ( not spicy hot) and good sized portions. Bear that in mind when ordering starters. Bring your own alcohol ( which we weren’t aware of) but a good range of non alcoholic beers and wines. Not over priced.

El único problema que tenemos es que el restaurante está frío y estar sentado comiendo es bastante incómodo debido a esto. Las áreas de baño, por dentro y por fuera, son aún más frías y si esto se solucionara, le daríamos estas 5 estrellas. Los alrededores son tan importantes como la comida.

Fui aquí para una comida familiar

Usamos el salón de actos en Gulistan House para 47 de nosotros, 10 años y un padre, y fue ideal para lo que queríamos. Elegimos de un menú fijo previamente acordado. La comida era buena, el servicio atento y receptivo, y nos mantuvieron alejados del resto de los comensales, lo cual fue perfecto para nosotros, ¡y probablemente para ellos!

Mi padre nos reservó una comida aquí la semana pasada y, sin duda, no tenía grandes expectativas, pensé que podría ser un poco anticuado. Para ser justos, la decoración es un poco! Sin embargo, la comida era excelente, muy fresca y sabrosa. Puede traer su propia bebida sin cargo de descorche y el personal fue excepcional, muy atento, mantuvo nuestros vasos llenos y nos reímos y conversamos con nuestro camarero principal, que fue muy amable. Sin duda volveremos.

Very delicious food, well presented, good quantities with excellent service. In a party of 36 + there were no hitches, felt like individual service. Water jugs were always replenished, tables cleared with minimum fuss, without interrupting conversations. the decor was charming, but I could have done without the disco like lights. everything was done to make our afternoon/evening a happy event. The toilets were clean but very cold. I would recommend this venue highly.

Pedimos 4 curry, arroz / papas fritas, una caja de selección de kebab y cena de pollo asado. El arroz era la única característica redentora. Los curries eran acuosos y carecían de profundidad de especias. Las papas fritas estaban saturadas en el aceite en el que habían sido fritas. La caja de kebab era vergonzosamente mala: papas fritas saturadas de goma en la parte superior del Sahara, trozos secos de carne en la parte superior de una masa espesa y salada que se suponía que era un naan.

Fantastic meal and attentive service - my family - all 16 of us had a tasty meal - service was great with friendly happy waiter - highly recommend to all - loved we could bring our own wine , tescos is 2 minutes from the Gullistan and makes the meal cheaper !!! Thankyou all - great night !!!

Rented one of the private rooms at Gulistan House for a party of 60.

We have been eating at the the Gulli for as long as it has been in the Ferry and always loved it and looked forward to going.

Gulistan came to our home to cater a family event of 50 people. They were professional, organised and the food was fantastic. We booked at short notice and they were great, really efficient, good service and loads of good food. We are an Indian family so we are quite picky with Indian food but everyone was happy, even the old aunties!

Excellent food and revamped dining area very nice.

We were very happy with the service, the atmosphere, the quality and the quantity of the food. The server we had was very friendly, especially to our young daughter. He took her to hug a camel and wrote her name in Arabic. I ordered the Balti Skandu ans my partner ordered the lamb korma. Both dishes were incredibly flavorful and the garlic naan was huge! Thank you for the great meal and great service.

Bought a takeaway on Saturday 7/9/19,the main meal and starter were great,only letdown was the Naan bread wasn't properly cooked,still raw inside.

I have visited this restaurant in its various guises for over 30 years, so was intriqued to see that it was again going through a refurbishment, albeit not in a way which disturbed us. At Tuesday teatime, 6 of us had no problem being fitted in without booking, and the service was friednly and efficient, with the manager making a point of coming over to talk to us.

Been going here for years (over 30) on and off and have seen the quality dip a bit in later years. At times we sit in but mostly we get a Take Away. Sauces are good as are Naans and starters but the chicken is hit or miss. Once in a while it's perfect but many times it's undercooked and you can't put a fork or knife through it. Sometimes when you bite into the chicken you get a hit of black pepper and this shouldn't be. Just wish they would buy in better quality chicken and be consistent with cooking it well.

Vine aquí con mis amigos para una despedida de soltero, y el personal no pudo haber sido más servicial. Servicio rápido, deliciosos sabores que se ofrecen, también. Agradecería si diversificaran su menú para mantenerse al día con sus competidores. Tampoco éramos fanáticos de la nueva decoración, ¡se necesita un poco más de fuerza!

Me alegro de que el restaurante reciba comentarios genuinos y haya leído comentarios recientes como "servicio al cliente horrible y comida enmohecida", "infierno para llevar", "comida de mala calidad: oscura y lúgubre", "extremadamente decepcionante" y "parece haber perdido". Es un toque ', debo admitir que era un tanto escéptico acerca de visitar a este viejo favorito. Habiendo pedido una comida para mí y para mi compañero, encontramos que el servicio era deficiente y que la comida era una mera sombra de la calidad por la que Gulistan era famoso.

Beautiful venue and food was amazing

Pedimos una comida para llevar para la familia, después de un largo día y todos estábamos ansiosos por un buen curry. Teníamos 2 curries, con veg pakora y nan, sin embargo, al día siguiente, todos estábamos muy enfermos con terribles dolores de estómago y síntomas asociados. Tuve que tomarme el día libre y mi hijo está ausente de la escuela debido a las consecuencias de haber comido esta comida y mi esposa tiene un dolor intenso y ha pasado más de 12 en la farmacia local. He sido cliente de este restaurante durante 30 años y he tenido algunas comidas muy buenas, sin embargo, últimamente he recibido muchas críticas negativas y puedo decirles que no volveré a este lugar nuevamente.

Former church with great atmosphere and food

Lacklustre welcoming. I've seen more life in a graveyard. Death row recipients receive better service and better quality food than we did. The moment we walked into the restaurant I instantly wished that we went somewhere else but decided to stay and try to enjoy the food anyway as from what I remembered it used to be good. The woman at the bar wasn't wearing uniform and nor was she welcoming and the waiter and manager looked scruffy. The actual interior of the restaurant looked like a canteen or prison with the tables lined up, bare walls and no sort of decoration which made us both feel very uncomfortable. When the waiter came over to write down our order, we politely asked if we could have a few more minutes to decide and instead of him giving us space he floated around our table making us both feel very uncomfortable. The drinks were handed to us in cans, the rice was microwaved (as well as they forgot one of our portions), and to top it off, the actually curries themselves had very unpleasant and had off putting tastes to them. We both agreed that there was something off about the chicken as it tasted as out of date and agreed to stop attempting to eat and complain. When we informed the waiter about our complaint he did not handle it professionally and nor did he show any concern or care. Instead he silently walked off and got his manager who took his sweet time to come over and deal with our compliant. When we informed him of the problems, he simply stated that's how they, a "professional restaurant" (as he stated), prepare there food. We then informed that the fact the food arrived within 5 minutes was a red flag for us as any true professional restaurant would take at least a minimum of 20 minutes to deliver these orders. His response were passive aggressive and showed no concern instead making us feel that the issue with the food was our fault. Also making it clear that he did want us to return which is fine because we can assure we won't be, and nor will our friends and family. We eventually stated that we are only paying for the drinks and naan as we barely touched the curries or rice which resulted in him nodding and promptly walking off with our dishes. After at least 5 minutes, he finally returned with our bill stating that all present staff had tasted the food and stated that "it was perfectly fine and that's how they prepare it". We also informed him that this wasn't my first time here and my family used to be regular customers here back around 10 years ago, and back then I couldn't fault it. He retorts back by stating that we have the same chefs that we did ten years ago so the food is the exact same. We promptly left after paying for our reduced bill and quickly informed people about our disastrous meal. Even at Wetherspoons where we just were, it took triple the time to prepare pub food so there is no excuse for a "professional restaurant" to be delivering "fresh" food in 5 minutes.

Table and chairs were crammed in and not enough seats for everybody. The drinks were a RIP off, smart price lemonade with the label torn off and had the cheek to charge you £1.75 a glass.

Nice place for friends and family to have curry. Its equally good venue for group and community get together. Parking in the night is free. Staff is courteous and food is good too. Access to the Gulistan is easy. And I am happy to recommend this place to anyone looking for organising a party, or some community event.

As a longstanding customer of 40 years I have always enjoyed my visits and carryouts from this fine establishment. The Gulistan has always given me outstanding service and taken great care of any small mishaps.

extremely disappointing from what used

Our family ordered a take away for collection last night for a birthday meal only to find items missing once we’d come back home. I called the restaurant to resolve it which I thought would be a simple process, I was completely wrong and utterly gobsmacked at how I was treated. I was kept on the phone for 23 minutes to the manager while he tried to work out how they’d made a mistake! I was put on hold 3 times and was made to feel like I was a liar and trying to con him! He did not seem to want to resolve it, more interested in trying to place blame on his staff than take ownership of their error. He eventually said he can have the missing items sent out to me but would be 20 minutes however this simply wasn’t good enough as the rest of our order was now cold, he then said if you come back we will remake your order, which I felt was the least he should be doing. I’d get our food quicker if I drove back so I did as I didn’t want to wait any longer. When I got there with our first order the manager came over and said that I’d been speaking to him & he was actually worse to deal with in person. He kept repeating himself & again placing blame on others. Saying that it was quite a big order, it was 5 meals! I have been a manager myself & know that that was not how to handle the situation. His level of customer service is non existent, he could not just admit that a mistake had been made on their part & offer a resolution. He had the audacity to say ‘normally we’d offer free poppadoms or pakoras but you seem to have a bit of everything anyway’! He then asked how I’d resolve it so I said that if I was in his shoes as the manager I’d have just accepted a mistake had been made & offered compensation, not keep you on the phone for over 20 minutes then either have you wait for a driver to send out your order or have you drive back again wasting both time & fuel. I then said if I were the manager I’d have just cut my losses & just said have your order on us or at least half price as a way to say sorry for all the unnecessary inconvenience caused but he simply said, ‘we don’t do that’. Clearly he didn’t care or was bothered to lose custom. I told him I’d never be back which is a shame as my family had been coming to the Gulistan for over 20 years. He has now cost himself the custom of two families & all our friends.

As always, a delicious meal and friendly service.

Really enjoyed our meal here, lovely place! Only downside is it doesn't have an alcohol licence but you can byob (we never knew this till we were there but didn't bother us!) Tio....bring your own booze!

Decent Indian (Pakistani to be accurate) restaurant. Extensive menu. Large portions, so go hungry. Not licensed but you can BYOB and there is no corkage.

Was here in Hogmanay with the family. Service was great and we really enjoyed the food. So much so we got a take away tonight. Again, Superb. King prawn chilli Bhuba 👌🏻

After Pub Curry House Spur of the moment decision to go for a curry on a Saturday evening. On the plus side we did not need to book. Inside was not the most aesthetically appealing; all a bit run down, and set up more like a canteen than a restaurant. This is an old church so wooden pillars and other fixtures remain. Grubby voile curtains were draped between areas and strung up with string tied round the posts. Several people, a little worse for the wear, mindlessly shovelling food into themselves. All four of us ordered different dishes, what arrived looked like 4 plates of absolutely identical food, and tasted like 4 of the same. The maitre d’ was loud, a touch cheeky and contemptuous. 4 main courses and a soft drink each, £65. We’ll not be back. But as an after pub, booze munchies establishment, where no booking is required, this has its place.
