Rishi's in Dundee City

Although the food was delicious, the service was poor, staff seemed inexperienced. Family member asked for 2 vodkas and a can of diet coke and received a large glass of diet coke, when corrected, she received a double vodka with diet coke. Server spilled chutney on our table, she apologised but did not wipe it up. Family member asked for peppermint tea and received 3 pots. Several family members ordered after dinner drinks, served asked each individual how they wanted it, we mostly asked for one cube of ice, we received none and one of our group received a Tia Maria in a warm glass, then a second one arrived (we were not charged for the 2nd).

Lovely atmosphere and think fact so busy Wednesday night says it all . Excellent serious and delicious food . Would 100 per cent recommend

Food was amazing Staff service was really friendly and checking on us every 5 minutes, the only thing i advise is dont go on weekend i nearly left such tasty food because of overcrowd, so loud that i couldnt even hear my partners talk and had to takeawaysome of my food because of that. Apart from that recommended .

Very good food and friendly staff but we visited it on 28th at 2pm and there was a crowd of Aberdeen fans in making a very load noise and singing and no one went over to tell them to be quiet it ruined our stay at the restaurant.

been into restaurant a few times and always been absolutely brilliant. decided to order takeaway unfortunately delivery was moved back repeatedly and when food arrived was all cold disappointed to say the least

Having been regular visitors to Rishi's in Glasgow, we were keen to try it's sister restaurant in Dundee. First impressions count. And the Dundee restaurant is far more pleasant on the eye than it's Glaswegian counterpart. Large windows let in plenty of light. The restaurant is very tastefully decorated and the staff were very welcoming. I wasn't hit with the same wall of aroma that I usually feel at the Glasgow restaurant. It really hits you as soon as you enter. But that did not mean the food was of a lesser standard. To start, for a slight change we went for the Indian/Mexican fusion starters, chicken tikka nachos and the keema tacos. Both were absolutely delicious. The marriage of flavours and textures complimented each dish perfectly. Although, the chicken/gobi 65 is a firm favourite of ours also. We then moved onto Rishi's speciality. Dosas. My wife had a masala dosa with potato and vegetables. I had a chicken dosa. I did think that the chicken in my dosa was slightly drier than I was used to at the Glasgow restaurant, but as usual there were plenty of chutneys and a pot of curry sauce to drizzle over it. The Dosas themselves were crispy and soft at the same time and we thoroughly enjoyed them. Service was top notch. Staff incredibly friendly and efficient. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant with everyone enjoying the food and company. Would definitely recommend for top end authentic South Indian cuisine.

Hadn't expected much from Dundee, but boy was I so pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent. The portion size was great and the service was warm and friendly. The showstopper was the mango lassi, such a normal common part of any Indian restaurant menu, but this one is so special!! Absolutely mind-blowing! Will definitely return if I ever visit Dundee again!

Waited a while, for our staters but that was noticed by staff and we received poppadoms and dips free of charge. That being said the food was first class, will definitely be there again. Brilliant meal.

I went here for lunch with a friend and we were both thoroughly impressed. The staff were very friendly, the food tasty, and the portion larger than we thought it would be. A word of caution, though. Things are prepared fresh, so don't expect to go in for a quick lunch. This was not a problem for us and we enjoyed the fact it wasn't rushed. I will definitely be back. For the starter I had the paani puri (crunchy balls filled with salad and a sauce to pour over) and my friend went for the haggis pakora. For the main, I can't remember what it was called, but it was the house special. To be honest, it was "just" good. My friend had the lamb roghan josh, which she loved. And for dessert we both went for the dessert sampler, which we both loved. The menu available on their website (on 12/9/24) doesn't reflect what is currently available. There are quite a few more options on the current menu.

There is really nothing wrong with the place but nothing special about the food, i found in my opinion. Very generic choice of dishes but also rather highly priced for what it was. Staff were nice and the restaurant was clean and bright

The staff were incredibly polite and friendly, making me feel very welcome. The atmosphere was also fantastic, creating a comfortable and enjoyable dining environment. Friendly and professional staff in a lovely kept restaurant. There was a real buzz when we arrived and great atmosphere so lucky to get a table. We loved the dosa’s dall, and also the lamb dishes. Will definitely go back again.

Tipica catena di ristoranti indiani e buona esperienza in quello di Aberdeen. Ottima la Cheese Dosa, dosa croccante ricoperto di formaggio, servito con chutney e sambar, così come gli assaggi di pollo tikka masala con pasta di zenzero e aglio, yogurt, mescolato con spezie indiane macinate e grigliato nel forno tandoori e immancabile il pane naan al formaggio. Nel complesso, ottima esperienza.

This is the best Indian food I’ve ever had in my life

I gave it overall 3 stars Typically south Asian food. So European people who are unaccustomed to indian food will think this is from a different world where in fact its not really. The food was ok. Nothing to shout home about your usual bog standard indian. I wanted the thali from the lunch menu only to be told it wasn't available. Oh by the way you have to ask for the lunch menu as they waiter sneakily tries to get u to order from the main menu.. lunch dishes are smaller BUT My sister did order from the main menu. Chicken tikka massala only to be served the same size dish as my lamb sag. Not cheap Either and the waiters are vultures who charged my dad £10 for a vegetable side dish. Only cos it wasn't on the menu. Not fresh vegetables either. It was a frozen packet from tescos thrown in the pan with gerabi (indian base sauce) They sat us down beside a window that had no ventilation and my elderly father got hot very quickly. Only good thing I can say they have a set menu at lunch ....2 course for £15 .....but considering they shaft u on the portion size your not getting your moneys worth. . The smaller waiter was much nicer.

The food could have tasted better if it would have arrived early. The food was cold and the naan bread was solid and chewy.

I ordered my food at 6:49 in the evening and received at 8:20, over an hour and half, and the hot food had started to condense and tasted weird, I had to throw it out. Yesterday's order was an absolute waste of time.

Great selection of food for a reasonable price!

This was one of the best restaurants I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Even with our large party, the staff was extremely accommodating. Throughout our entire meal, the service was absolutely phenomenal. Everyone in our party was blown away by the quality of the cuisine. Do yourself a favor and go check this place out, you won’t regret it.

Unbelievable place for Indian food, Their menu is brillaint and caters for every need the pakora is unrivalled and the curry’s are always top Drawer, friendly staff and a great pint of cobra to go along with it, Highly recommend giving this place your business. The chicken 65 is a must have.

Lovely food, usually great atmosphere! Prices are decent for the food provided. Shame there is no more madras paranta. Service could be improved, staff seem sometimes confused and innattentive however they are very friendly!

Nice clean environment but mediocre food, could taste the raw spices in the food, the rice was stale. Dont bother ordering poppadoms, starters and mains, as they come at the same time, might as well go straight for the mains. Very poor service, no one bothered to change the starter plate to dinner plate or even check how the food was/if we need anything else. Had to go to the fromt desk to pay the bill as no server was around. Save yourself money and time and visit elsewhere

The mutton was very chewy and biryani was extremely spicy

Had lunch with family. Masala dosa, poori chana(choley), South Indian thali and mango lassi was delicious and had authentic Indian flavour.

Very good Indian restaurant in Dundee. The food and service are excellent. To recommend.

Very bad service and too much expensive

Lovely food. Cooked to perfection.

No space to wait for collection. Waited approximately 10 minutes before I had to approach a member of staff to ask for my order, not one of them even acknowledged my presence prior to this…they were busy so I did not want to appear rude. The food itself was luke warm, chicken pakoras tasted like they had been sitting out. Korma sauce was like water and again, Luke warm and the peshwari naan was hard and stale! Won’t be back!

Excellent meal. Thank you so much for the wonderful food. I loved the size of the chicken in the Korma,the pilau rice was fresh and lovely. The Peshwiri Nan was so sweet and I loved the chunky chips. All was fantastic ,I'm very full & I will be back. Thank you again.

The staff of the place was unwelcoming and it took half and hour to send the food we ordered. By the time food arrived, it was cold and lost appetite. Very Disappointed because we came to try this restaurant for the first time but now this won't be even recommended for trying out!!

It was amazing food and service. We loved it and enjoyed every dish. We had Naan and chettinadu chicken, chicken 65, Kothu baroota, fried rice, cocktail and finally we had wonderful gulabjamun with coconut Ice cream. I remember my native food (Tamil Nadu - Namakkal)taste. All the staff are very kind and sweet. Wonderful experience I have never gotten like this before in any of the restaurants. Nice restaurant with good service. The menu is limited (which I think can be a good thing) but the food was of a pretty poor standard. I had the Chicken 65 as a starter, supposedly their signature starter. It was chicken pakora with a fancy presentation. It wasn't even that good a pakora. For the main I had a lamb biryani. The main course was served in a large bowl with a very small bowl of curry sauce and a tiny bowl of raita. The biryani had clearly been on the hotplate for some time as the top layer of rice was crunchy! Shortly after I started on my meal a waitress asked if I was enjoying my meal. I replied that I hadn't found any lamb yet and she smiled and walked away before I could say any more. There was some lamb right at the bottom of the rice which indicated that they was not cooked with the rice but added at a later point. The lamb was ok but there was not enough of it in the dish to make it good value. The curry sauce was average and I did like the raita which went well with the biryani. The beer (Kingfisher or Cobra) was reasonably priced. I waited for someone to come and take another order for beer but this didn't happen. As no one was coming near my table I decided to leave but had to go to the bar to get my bill. A very disappointing meal, overpriced, quite bland and nowhere near value for money. This is a restaurant that I will not return to.

Really disappointed with this, as I really like it here. Food was over an hour late, delivered stone cold and juice missing. Called to advise and was told to contact just eat for a refund.

This is an excellent restaurant that we use often. Good food and lovely staff. The reason for the lower review is due to the fact there's no heating on at lunchtime. This is the 2nd time in the last couple of months we have been here for lunch with friends, and on both occasions, we have been frozen to the core. The restaurant was quite busy, and all we heard were people complaining about how cold it was. Seriously, it is so cold. I understand that the owners are probably trying to save money, but it should not be to the discomfort of the customers. In the cold winter months, a warm, welcoming atmosphere is needed. Love this place but will certainly be looking at an alternative place to eat at lunchtimes during the colder months.

Thanks to Chef Gurpreet Singh who made us so proud to be Indian and specially punjabi and he made such a good curries as per our request as we are 4 people badly craving for Proper indian taste from last 1.5 years and finally our search is finished.. GOD BLESS gurpreet singh and one bad thing I want to say is service from a girl which is Awful as she is so blunt in answering and shows us attitude but apart from last everything is so well...

Food is tasteless and to be seated in a corner where the sun kept on shining in my eyes because apparently every table was taken for a bigger party that didn't even show while there. Won't be back again.

Service was pathetic after ordering the food and waited for 20 minutes then we have to ask at least give us water to drink, the food was cold, we ordered family dosa, sambhar was cold we ask for second time please give us a hot sambhar, but they came up with cold sambhar again, not recommended will never go here

Fantastic lunch here today .. excellent food and very reasonably priced . There were 4 of us and we all ordered different dishes which were all so tasty.

Ordered a takeaway for myself and my mother, was told 35min wait, got there around that time to collect, waited longer, got the order and got home (eventually, rush hour) only to realise the rice was missing. Rather than send someone out with it, I had to go collect it, again in rush hour traffic, by the time I got to the restaurant and got home (30+ mins) our food was cold and reheating it just removed any and all moisture. Would have been as well eating cardboard and cold rice. Won’t be back. Goa in broughty ferry is a much better choice

Definitely a victim of their own success. Very long wait. This has happened on last couple of visits. Time to find an alternative.

Love Rishis. Been to all branches many times and will be coming back for lovely authentic south Indian food. Aberdeen, Glasgow and Stirling branches, give your Dundee sister some support to be as good as you are.

Poor home delivery experience every single time i had to order food. Once I ordered 2 dosa but received only one dosa and they denied any refund. Their management is so pathetic, idk how they’re still surviving in business but such poor customer experience.

Excellent experience, food was magnificent and full of flavour (very generous portions). Staff were very attentive and service was fast. Staff accomidated a member of our party's tastes by providing a milder version of a dish which was extremely kind of them. Genuinely have no complaints, 10/10.

Wonderful , friendly restaurant, well worth a visit. The brilliant helpful staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, my food was very spicy , but the lady replaced it with a milder version and although I couldn't finish she put it in a box to take home, all done with the minimum of bother to them , and the gratitude of myself, the menu is wonderful and excellent value. Thank you everyone at Rishis for a splendid night.

This place is amazing the food is exquisite 👌. There second to none. Try it you'll not regret it and you won't look back. Most Indian cuisine tastes the same but these guys have a unique flavour in their dishes . Absolutely delicious. Bit more expensive but definitely worth every penny. Staff are friendly !!! Since I discovered rishi I haven't went to anyone else for Indian cuisine; there food is amazing. Great atmosphere dining in and great take out too !! Definitely 5 stars 😋. Thanks guys !!

Like a cattle market when we visited. Two couples arrived and ordered after us. We had to ask about our meal after theirs arrived. We waited 50 minutes on our meal.

I had my dinner yesterday night here.we are regular customer of Aberdeen Rishi's aroma but here totally different No taste in food..i don't know if chef was on holiday but totally disappointed a nd the staff was not even attentive.They were chatting and not giving attention to customer .They don't even communicate properly.

Best Indian food I’ve ever had. Chicken khorma, jeera rice, and butter naan is my meal preference. Really liked the dosa also, and the staff is always great. Highly recommend.

To begin with. It is definitely recommended. The food was excellent.we were there for almost an hour, It felt like we kept on ordering food, because it was so delicious. Imagine going to a movie expecting not much to happen, and then all of a sudden, it becomes one of your all-time favorites. It was the same for us. Great food, great ambiance, and service.

No curry sauce came with the Biryani. The onion bhajis and naan bread were cold. Disappointing .

I think this is the only Rishi's worth visiting. The others are not the same as this. Here the food is as authentic as possible and Chef Bala and Gurpreet are stars ! These 5 stars have been given by a foodie from India - hence can be taken seriously. However of late, the food has been found to be a little hot - I guess if one was to tell them in advance - they could adjust. My husband and I are regulars here and I have sent at least 20 - 30 friends here to eat :)

Went here for meal with friends. Ordered the mix grill (£19) - a real disappointment. The portion was laughably small - 2 tiny lamb chops, 2 pieces (or rather mouthfuls) of chicken tikka and a seekh kebab cut in half. No raita or rice or naan and just a spoon of what passed for salad. Whoever had cooked it had overdone the chillis - I like my food spicy but the heat was the only thing I could taste in a bland dish. I won't be back - had better and cheaper from our local takeaway.

Poor. Nan was like it had been defrosted tasted like cardboard,asked for another just the same. The dhal was nice but for £10 a meagre portion.The aloo , cauliflower was ok but potato was soft,prolly a defrost.As Tony Singh says these places are taking the pish . Would they even use fresh ingredients. If you want a decent curry cook it yourself or try the Dormy at Gleneagles.

Food was OK BUT..from the drinks menu I ordered a 568ml bottle of Kopparberg mixed fruit cider (£5.50). We finished the meal and I noticed the cider I ordered was in 500ml bottle. Spoke to a senior member of staff, told him he had ripped me off (and I'm sure other unsuspecting customers). No apology was forthcoming, just a small adjustment to the bill. BE CAREFUL!!

For 5 stars, you've got to be Michelin. This was a very pleasant meal - Madras Marsale Dosa interesting and tasty, the Haggis Pokora was fabulous. Mains of Special Biriyani and Lamb Saag were authentic and very good. Certainly worth another visit.

Ate here before and was good. This time however menu showed beers at £4.50, charged £5.50 poppadums £1.50 each, dips for poppadums, £1, not enough for poppadums espresso £2.50. Seems ok, but worst espresso I've ever had, way to week a d too much water. had a "railway" curry. asked server what that meant, no idea. £68+ for a couple of average curries, rice, over sweet peshawari nan and crap coffees. Would not recommend and will not be back

Food ordered acknowledged at 5.30pm and delivered at 7.45pm, food arrived cold. It was tasty once reheated, but we were really disappointed with the late delivery and having to contend with cold food on arrival. Our order cost £64 for 3 curries, 2 Nan breads, 1 rice, 1 small chips and 4 cans of juice.
