Guapo in Derry

Great food, Worth the queuing up, only thing negative, the recipe seems to be spicier in the last few month's, this has put off a few family members as it is too spicy for them. But great place

Its always nerve racking to bring up allergies, especially in a busy place, but they were so nice and had the manager walk me through ingredients while the line continued. Staff are always super nice and efficent.

Guapo is delicious! Fresh ingredients and awesome choices. So filling and loved it. Staff are nice! Can be really busy during lunch hours but the line moves quick!

Long lines give you a clue of how good it is. Although they have a few tables everyone gets take out! Great burritos good prices.

Fairly decent burrito but felt rushed by staff after waiting in the 25 minute queue and ended up not getting everything I wanted. Wouldn't say it was worth the hype.

I can’t fault the food at all, it’s so tasty! However, one fella who served us was really friendly by greeting us as we began the order, the the next staff on the salad area had the personality of a door and grunted at me then the person on the til looked at me til I spoke and wasn’t pleasant at all. All customers need to be greeted and be served in a helpful manner, Food is 10/10 - just a pity some staff aren’t up to par!

Wow! What a feed, honestly one of the greatest take aways Derry has seen, it’s really brought in a diverse food scene to our city. Food is always unbelievable, staff always so helpful and friendly and they make your experience better than it already is! Reaches all food tolerances (vegan included), I highly recommend this wee spot 👍

This is one icon in the local eating circle. Be prepared to queue. The colourful interior is as vibrant as the food. A burrito crammed with moist shredded pork was delicious. Decent fresh salsas and sides. All prepared in front of you. And these days it’s tremendous value. Some healthy options are just as appealing.

Needed a place for quick lunch with vegan options. The staff were patient, and helped us with nice vegan wraps. The wraps were really good.

We didn't have much good food in Northern Ireland, sadly, but this place was a highlight. I'm from Texas so I know Mexican food, and while this was not really that, it was delicious and fresh and scratched our itch for flavorful food. You can get burritos or bowls, and mine was so big that I was able to make a lunch and dinner out of it. Great option for vegetarians, too!

Guapo has always been a firm favorite of mine. Recently, I have noticed the price increase which I didn't mind because of the quality & amount of food you get for your money. Unfortunately, the portion sizes have continued to get smaller!!!! I thought it was a one off but my last four purchases have been small and below par. I have had to pay for extra portions which I've never had to do before. Instead of automatically going to Guapo for a treat I now second think it and have been going elsewhere for more value for money. Hopefully the portions sizes will return to what they used to be to reflect the price increase.

Guapo is gorgeous as always - never fails to hit the spot and really decent prices! Vegetarians are not disadvantaged at all

Weather in Derry yesterday was absolutely awful but that didn't appear to put those queuing for Guapo off. I persevered & was so glad I did even though the food was for someone else (I'll def treat myself next week). The staff couldn't have been more helpful from the female server who cheerily advised me "You can have whatever you want!" to the lad who prepared it accommodating my request for the sour cream separate. Portions excellent, fresh ingredients, great value and once I got in to the shop the speed of preparation excellent. This was a first for The Golden Girls (both in their 80's) and my attempt at changing up their Friday takeaway. They LOVED it & called me this morn to tell me, absolutely raved about it. Bag of tortilla chips and sour cream just topped it off perfectly for them. Once I handed it over they happily tucked in & that was the end of any conversation, far too busy eating. We'll/they'll be back, thank you

The burritos I get here are always a good size and they are fairly inexpensive. Can be a bit busy sometimes.

We are on a week holiday in Derry this June 2021 and intend on doing as many food reviews as possible as we love our food stopped here as we heard it was nice but we were forewarned the portion size of chilli mince was small and unfortunely it was. It was beautiful and fresh, would ask for more mince next time even tho its extra cost to me but just wasn't enough, lovely the crisp fresh lettuce and sour cream on top. I'd come back again as it was tasty and quick and easy to grab and go.

Guapo is my go to burrito bar! It's cheaper than main stream rivals and I feel the food is of a better standard. Wish they had a branch closer to where I live!

When I was here a year or so ago, the food was very good. Things have changed and now it's more average than good.

We got the mixed meat burritos and they were delicious! Great size, perfectly spiced and unbelievable value for money. Staff were friendly and fast as there was quite a queue when we arrived. Highly recommended!

Went here with a few friends and all for the burritos! I got the chicken burrito with Mexican rice, salsa, cheese and garnish! It’s was by far the best burrito I’ve had in a while! Fresh and tasty from the first to last bite! The decor and staff where amazing and unique to their style of food! Will 100% be back!

Not a big restaurant, seats for maybe 25 people, but large menu, friendly staff , cheap prices and excellent food. Had the beef burrito and didn't regret it. Place is always busy a good sign when you are new in town. If you like Mexican food try here, you will not regret it

He estado en guapo un par de veces. Fui y el personal fue muy amable y me explicaron las opciones (mi novio no tenía ni idea de cómo o qué pedir). Fui por un chili picante con chile con carne. Fue fácil y bien organizado, la presentación de la comida era muy buena y tenía un sabor irreal. Fue muy satisfactorio y una gran relación calidad-precio. Mi única cosa en la que trabajar sería la especia a la que acudí por las opciones más picantes y no la encontré demasiado picante. Sin duda volveremos!

Have been coming here for a while but over the last couple of visits the quality hasnt been the best. The chicken tastes cheap and there is a strong taste of pepper which takes away from the rest of the flavour. Standards have dropped.

Great place to stop in and have a quick bite to eat or to grab food for on the go. There's a great selection, the food is always really tasty and the service is usually very quick. (Also if you like spicy, the options are there for it as well as not)

I've been to Guapo quite a lot now. Unfortunately, it's never really the same, twice in a row. Can be FANTASTIC but also has the potential to be bland and heavy. Hope you get it on a good day!

I love this place but on my last three visits the portions are a joke. I always get a box and it is half the size it was such a shame.

I have eaten here more than pretty much anywhere else in the world over the past few years. While the burritos aren’t quite up to the standard of a chain like Chipotle, they are consistently good. Being an American, I have relatively high standards for burritos and Guapo regularly delivers a very respectable burrito. The rice and beans are decent and the salsas and guacamole are actually made on premises, not from a jar or can like many other places I’ve tried in the UK and Ireland. Their chicken is well cooked but doesn’t have a lot of flavor on its own the same way a premium burrito place would (someone should tell them about the wonders of using chicken thighs instead of breast as well). They also stock lots and lots of Cholula which is a great thing. I’ve tried the pulled pork a few times and have to say it is pretty underwhelming both in its taste and texture (too mushy). But in all, if you want a decent burrito in Derry, this is your spot. I give it a 3 because on a global scale, its just average. I eat there so much because in general, take aways or fast food in Derry is overall pretty bad and this is the best option out there.

I eat here all the time and it never disappoints. I just had a boojum in belfast and was so shocked at how tasteless it was compared to Guapo - keep doing what you're doing. Sio x

My first ever burrito, and boy did I choose well. Easy to order, lots of choices and well tasty. Will be returning and recommending.

After ordering your food you get to the till to see a sign "cash only amigos". No method of electronic payment. You have the option of a bank machine outside which charges and extortionate rate and fee on euro based cards. Having put up with the rude and uninterested staff too often and still willing to go back, this is the last straw. We live and shop in an electronic age. Unless your running your business out of your pocket and out of the tax system

We both had the 3 taco box, different meat in each taco . Food was lovely and service was friendly and helpful as always. Would walk past any fast food chain to eat here. I've been in both the Derry and Omagh restaurants . Happy to return. Prices are very reasonable too :-)

We have been visiting Guapo since it opened about four years ago. The staff are lovely, friendly and helpful. There is a wide selection of fillings for your burrito or fajita and they will help you as you make your choice. The menu is guaranteed to cater for all sizes of appetite including a great value kids meal.

Tuvimos un fantástico almuerzo de hoy. Visitar Derry durante el fin de semana y decidimos probar este lugar. Me alegro tanto de haberlo hecho. He viajado México y pasamos mucho tiempo en Texas y este es, sin duda, tan cerca de la realidad, ya que tendrás en esta isla. El personal amable y muy económico. ¡Bien hecho!

Este es mi favorito de comida rápida ir olace en Derry. La comida es sabrosa y nunca cambia constantemente! Estoy aquí por lo menos una vez a la semana para nachos! Mi único comentario negativo es a veces el personal es un poco hostil y a veces las porciones de cambio a peor, pero sigue siendo un bocado sabroso independientemente. Nada me impediría volver!

I couldn't recommend this place highly enough for food as it is delicious but one and just one of the girls (dark hair) that work there is so rude and unhappy looking and the portion she gave myself and my friends was a disgrace and a kiddies version in my opinion, my friend was so annoyed and I advised her to complain but she didn't. I do intend on returning this week and I hope my portion is better. As I say tho, def go for the food

Have eaten here quite a few times the food is always good, great flavour and fast service. There is a few tables so you can eat in but I prefer to have a takeaway.

Popped in here a few days for a much anticipated lunch and came away quite disappointed. On entering the shop, there was little to no welcome by the member of staff who served me. I'd never eaten in here before, and as I was clearly unsure of what to get/how it worked, the server did nothing to help me out. There was no sense of urgency in making the burrito that I had requested, and it seemed like the staff were just relaying lines they'd learned for a play instead of offering a somewhat personal experience. Everything about the place was average. Wait times, service, food and price. I should mention also that this place does not offer card payments and this information is nowhere to be found in the shop. Granted, the staff were alright to let us eat without paying only to have to go to the cash machine up the road, but still. It was an inconvenience. Other points are that seating is minimal and the shop itself was clean. Worth a visit once, but probably won't ever be back.

Went here yesterday with my best friend, we weren't greeted - it was very much 'order your burrito and go', the service wasn't friendly at all. There were no knives to cut the burrito so I had to use my hands (surely I'm not the only person who hates eating with their hands?). When choosing a filling it was between 3 items, nothing about being able to choose what was infront of us, and lastly, nothing to indicate the fact they don't accept card payments. Overall my first experience with Guapo was not great. The food tasted alright but I wouldn't put it in my top 10 places to eat. It was all a bit uncomfortable and I honestly felt like I was nothing but a hassle to the employees there, don't think I'll be going back anytime soon.

Beautiful range of fresh Mexican food and a really tasty spicy soup. I'm a vegetarian and the veggie option burrito is filling and delicious, love the guacamole and spicy salsa! Only negative that I could mention is I wished they stayed open later!

I went in for a take away Burrito and it was prepared quickly in front of me. Lots of different choices ,all fresh.Choose from mild to very spicy salsa.I only got the mild but I enjoyed the taste of the meat and all the Mexican flavours . I have already been back 2 or 3 times..Great spot.

A friend recommended Guapo as a good place for a light lunch. I made the mistake of ordering a regular burrito. Light, hardly. Big full burrito and mouth watering tasty. Have been back twice this week. Highly recommended and the service is like lightening

I love Guapo! It's the nicest Mexican place I've been to in Northern Ireland. It's simple it tastes great and you always get service with a smile. The loyalty cards are handy and it's great for a quick bite before heading back to uni.

My 2nd visit to Guapo ( sorry didn't review 1st visit) . I must say I am really impressed. The seating area is limited and probably does much of its trade from people on the move but I was lucky to arrive just after the lunchtimes rush. I had the taco box and the friendly bloke had not trouble with my request of the 3 tacos having different fillings of beef, chicken & pork. All three were delicious! The place is clean, th staff are friendly and the prices are very reasonable. If I ever have to 'Grab'n'Go' I'm going to try their soup and half burrito, I hear the soup is spicy & delicious. I expect to return many times when in town. If you like Mexican food then this is the place. Dare you to try the hot salsa and then add the chilli sauce provided on the tables :-)

In Derry with my wife and son visiting family and was returning from a day on the beach at Benone. Yes the sun was shining today. I came into the city up the Strand Road and stopped at a red traffic light. Looking out of my window I saw Guapo. Thought, it's got to be worth a punt.So glad we did. The restaurant had a couple of tables and we decided to eat in. I had the pork burrito with "the hottest sauce you have please", my wife had the salad, and our son had the children's fajita meal. The two young women serving were welcoming, friendly and glad to help us choose our meals - a three step process. We were also pleasantly surprised to see Mexican cola on the drinks menu. Haven't had one of those since my stay in Merida, Mexico 1994. Great experience and delighted to see good quality international food being offered in Derry.

The staff are lovely and they have your food ready in a couple of minutes - they don't mess around! But that doesn't mean they were rushing us, they're just good at their job. The food was hot, tasty and plentiful. Their aren't many seats but I wouldn't class it as a restaurant.

I eat here every Saturday with my 5 year old son and we lovvvve it! Friendly staff, good food, and nice clean kitchen and eating area. Don't expect to eat much more that day if you have a large burrito for lunch because they are very filling, but sooo tasty! Love it!

Visited yesterday for the first time. I've been looking forward to visiting because of all the rave reviews on here and I wasn't disappointed. The seating area is very small but as we were in outside of peak hours getting a seat wasn't an issue. I assume a lot of people just grab and go. I had the 3 taco box and the lady serving was perfectly happy to have all 3 meat fillings, 1 in each taco. All three were delicious and the spicy salsa dressing was just at a nice level of heat. I found the staff to be friendly, the food area looked very clean and the prices are very reasonable. I'll definitely return!

I often grab a burrito here when I'm working in Derry. The selection of fillings is great and the service is quick. Even if there is a queue out of the door, and there often is, then it's only a 5 to 10 minute wait. It's good food made quickly.

This is a must visit if you are looking for excellent local cheap cuisine with friendly staff and fast service!

I went into because the local´s name (it means "handsome" in spanish) and I did not regret it. The local is tiny but the food was pleasant and the service was very efficient.

We are only stopped in Londonderry for one night whilst in a driving tour and used trip advisor to find somewhere cheap and quick to eat. All the reviews are right! We were fortunate enough to get there 2 minutes before they closed. I had a pork regular burrito with almost all the fillings and a mango drink ! It was amazing! I wish there was one of these near me at home. Also the staff two young ladies were very kind and smiley and let us stay and eat deputy closing up! Now that's what I call service! Great customer service!

Very tasty although unless you go early they are almost always ran out of pulled pork and the guacamole , salad etc isn't as fresh as it used to be they must be making it too far in advance... But a nice different bite to eat... And the mexican sodas are a plus... Could be doing with a card machine!!!
