The Embankment Bar & Grill in Derry

Booked dinner for five of us, including friends over from England. The food was nothing special but I have to say the biggest disappointment was the service: no one to meet and greet at front of house, and it was pretty obvious the inexperienced waiting staff lacked necessary training as service was patchy and indeed perfunctory from management. A bit of a let down all round. Improvement needed.

Had a great meal at The Embankment. Great menu and service. Nice bar to wait in, or have a drink after your meal.

Had a lovely lunch on Friday 5th January, then into bar for few drinks with family and friends, staff were fabulous and friendly especially girl with 4month old baby, sorry never got her name very welcoming girl , definitely be back soon , great experience thank you till next time xxx

Pitiful service, no training for waiters and waitresses between the pub and a canteen. Cocktail very limited in number and non-compliance with recipes. dishes compared to what is announced no relation I advise against. really disappointed. ex chiken teryaki without sauce and chiken n having encountered teryaki (soy) sauce. I do not recommend

Staff were lovely, very friendly and courteous. The menu was varied and had plenty of choice

I have always had lovely food, fantastic service and a joyful,happy experience anytime I visit the embankment,the staff are the most friendly,professional and lovely people you could ever wish to meet,I love it there

Food wasn’t great, expected better. Had a family night out for Christmas soup was like dish water with very little veg, everything came absolutely smothered in sauce taste was bland. £300 was expensive enough this did include a couple of drinks each.

We were staying close by and popped in for lunch, we were warmly welcomed and quickly seated with menus and a drinks order taken. Cocktails were very well priced at either £7.50 or £8.50 and were lovely. For lunch we ordered Louisiana chicken, chilli chicken pitta and salt and chilli chips. The food was served quickly, good portions and really tasty, the chips were particularly good. We were really impressed with the quality of the food and cocktails and will definitely return when back in the city.

We got this place suggested to us by a family member and have to say it was excellent. Such friendly staff that did absolutely everything for us. Food was fantastic (we had Christmas dinners) and wine was delicious.

So good, I had to write a review. Selection very good. Service top class. Prices are the best I've seen in a while. Best of all the food was first class. I highly recommend . I'm just back after eating on Sunday evening at 17.30. Plenty of spaces available. People are missing out.

We went to celebrate a friends birthday. Got are food. 3 portions of garlic fries. Where rock hard, looked recooked a couple of times, i couldn't even get my fork though them. Then the steak was like rubber,dried up and cold, looked like it was reheated. I told the waiter, he said he would let the chef know. After agreeing with me about the chips. He went into the kitchen to tell the chef. I seen the chef and waiter laugh about it. Not even a sorry.!!! The base of the banoffee pie. Was that hard and thick. I couldn't cut it with a knife. Alot of wasted money of food we couldnt eat. Very disappointed in the food.

Food was of a good standard, what let the service down, I ordered a starter that didn't come. I was advised that the chowder I ordered was not on today, why did I have to wait until my main meal to be told that ??, I would have ordered something else

The front of house lady was really nice and welcoming, she was happy to chat to us about the menu, and was a pleasure to talk to. Reasonably priced and tasty food. We had the vegetarian fajita, the vegetarian stir-fry, and salt and chilli chips. Both mains were very nice. Whoever cooked the food was overzealous with the chilli flakes, unfortunately, and there didn't appear to be any mayo to help cool the food down. We were offered vinegar or ketchup. Haha. Service for my drink was slow, but the lunchtime rush was just starting so I think it took the staff a while to realise I'd not had my drink yet. There was a good mixed crowd including couples, families with kids, a group of teenagers, and a bunch of what looked like college friends. Doesn't appear to be exclusive to any particular demographic, very inclusive. Overall, a pleasant experience. I would go back to try the other dishes.

I met a friend here last week whilst staying at the Ebrington Hotel. The location is great, area is pretty, well lit and manicured, in a beautiful square with many restaurants, hotel, bakery, brewery, views, etc. The entrance area to the restaurant is dirty, staff are lax and non responsive. Wine selection is cheap, sub par and nasty. The food well.....is Meh at best a definite 2/10 for selection, quality, standard, taste, portions, etc. The seating is tight cramped and patrons seem to frequent this place because of the cheap alcohol and food. Not for me!

I never leave reviews but had to leave one for here!! NEVER AGAIN, probably the worse experience ever when out for a meal. There was one member of staff who should not be working in hospitality, her attitude was stinking!! There are plenty of other quality restaurants in Derry!! Can’t believe this place is part of the Bentley group, as their other restaurants are good!

Superb food! Burgers are messy and massive, just as they should be.😉 There is a great outdoor eating area which is perfect for when we bring the dog for a walk in the area and want to stop for a bite afterwards. If eating outside table service can be a bit slow so sometimes it's best to grab a menu and pop into the bar to order. Food will come pretty quickly then. Would highly recommend.👍

Grill serving excellent, quality dishes. Great beer and good service. All very young guys serving polite and professional. Place beyond the bridge of peace...a pleasant walk from the ancient walls.

The Embankment is our favourite eatery in the city. It has a beautiful setting overlooking the banks of the River Foyle. We have never had a bad meal in here and the staff are really friendly, attentive and accomadating. You know when you come here you will leave very satisfied.

Great evening in The Embankment. Quick & friendly service. So welcoming and couldn't do more for us. We ordered last minute and had a lovely meal and drinks. Staff are fab!!!! Music can sometimes be overbearing but service makes up for it ☺️

I recently had a baby shower for my daughter in-law at the embankment couldn’t praise the staff enough there were so helpful and pleasant nothing was a bother to them from start to finish the food was great the atmosphere was great brilliant day!

First time we've tried this venue since it's recent ownership change. Were pleasantly surprised by the friendly welcome and environment. Soon seated followed by drinks order - which was swiftly served... Menu had several temptations!.. I settled for the steak melt - my wife opting for the salmon. The food was soon delivered and was nicely presented. Have to say that my steak was amazing from first bite to the last morsel!!... not a hint of fat or gristle - has to be one of the best steaks I've had for a while & enjoyed very much. My wife also thoroughly enjoyed the salmon which was cooked to perfection + all accompaniments were delicious and equally well presented. So, credit is due to all staff - waiting staff for their friendly efficiency + chefs for the amazing food which was all appreciated and thoroughly enjoyed. We will certainly be returning again soon!!..

Have been here 7 times for food and out of the 7 times the food has been okay but the brisket BBQ fries tasted like a dead animal wasn't nice

Cancelled our order after seeing the filth of the place. Could do with a massive clean. Grime around the entrance to the kitchen was enough to put me off ever returning.

This bar is small on the inside but has tables outside and in a roofed enclosed garden area to it also you receive table service for food and drinks if u wish the staff are friendly and will have a laugh with you it also has live music every weekend outside

Has to be the rubbish breakfast of the year so far. everything was hard egg burnt beacon like a board . It's as if everything was from the day before would not recommend the to anyone ever .local person

Visited here last March with my family for st Patrick’s day what a brilliant afternoon we had. Lovely atmosphere food was delicious and staff were super friendly they even refunded our desserts because we had to wait 20 mins. The place was really busy no worries we loved it here can’t wait to come back thanks for a lovely afternoon 😀

Love this place never fails in anything, new menu and we had the new duck starters, amazing, my son had the new main pork wellington and he said it was lush! I had bruschetta to start with and amazing too, food is always amazing here and the staff are just brilliant so attentive and always happy and checking all is good, can’t fault them at all and they do the most amazing old fashioned cocktail 😀😀

Wonderful hidden restaurant and bar in the heart of the Waterside on the Limavady Road. Good access for wheelchair visitors and the food is delicious, reasonably priced and the staff couldn't be more helpful. Try it out! Their salmon is to die for!

The staff has 3 severe allergies to deal with (anaphylaxis to nuts, anaphylaxis to shellfish and coeliac) and they did so perfectly. We were at complete ease to enjoy the delicious and reasonable priced evening. Thank you

Sampled a Friday dinner, then went back for Saturday lunch and back again for Sunday breakfast. Great menu, delicious food, and staff are super friendly, attentive and caring, makes all the difference and makes you want to come back for more. Slight criticism on the food - soggy sourdough on toasted sandwich during lunch, and veggie breakfast could have had a tastier smashed avo and better flavoured sausages like the Denny meat free sausages or something as theres so much more plant based variety now in supermarkets that are much nicer than them old Quorn ones. But overall everything else so far has been great and menu options are superb... definitely looking forward to coming back for the coffee, the risotto and sampling the cocktails!

Had a nice enough lunch here. My starter of honey chilli wings was a good size but far too salty and I couldn't taste any honey . My daughter's chicken caesar salad was fine. Service was very slow

Went here for Sunday dinner with the family greeted to our table offered drinks staff were friendly we ordered when the mains came we all got main and everyone got their sides bar me by the time I got my champ my chicken was cold so was offered a free dessert by manager when I got to the till the dessert was on the bill disappointing meal won’t be rushing back

only called for a coffee and there was only a kiosk based outside and served drinks in cardboard cups. we tried to go in restaurant but only cater for food customers, we were told that we could go in the bar as there was plenty of room in there, bars and pubs we go into serve you personally in proper cups, shame really as the coffee was good. dissapointed and the first criticism ever of our experiences in Ireland

Ordered the duck done medium and got all 3, overdone literally hard on one slice medium in another slice and dripping blood on the other.When we finished we sat there with empty plates and empty glasses for 20 minutes and girls just walked back and forward many times and lifted nothing or asked about more drinks. When the plates did get lifted she walked away before could ask for more drinks so we just walked to the counter and paid the bill and left.

Went here for meal with family. Staff were helpful and friendly and there's a good atmosphere in the restaurant. Food was presented well and was good but wouldn't say it was outstanding or anything. I went home still feeling hungry too. Got the curry and there wasn't much flavour to it. My dad also said his fish was overcooked. There are loads of restaurants in this city and the food needs to be of the highest standard. Would still try this restaurant again in the future and hopefully see improvement.

Definatly won't be returning...asked for beer battered cod snd chips... greese running off the plate and over done, my sister had tastless steak open sandwich and side salad no dressing and limp lettuce. £15 each but we did receive complementary coffees when I complained. Definatly wouldn't recommend...

On a day trip to Derry as have not been since moving to NI a number of years ago. After some sight seeing found this place. Kid friendly, great food, quick friendly service and a convenient location. Seems newly opened.

Decent food. Good live music. Toilets could do with a bit of maintenance

Came here during the maritime festival. Food down on the quays pretty spenny and it was quite cold sitting outside. Walked over here - sat inside on comfy seats and had 2 terrific sandwiches with sides. The club sandwich had lots of really juicy chicken. Service was v friendly and efficient. Also close to the train station. Definitely worth a visit if you are up for the festival.

First time in the Embankment today for drinks and dinner. Staff were amazing. Food excellent. Definitely he back!

Nice atmosphere great staff and a unique location

Shown to table and no drinks order offered. Table for 2 in a corner under loud speaker. A large party was finishing up but hung around our table which we thought was why staff forgot about us. Sat for 20 minutes until someone came to take our food order. Asked could we order drinks and staff member apologised for forgetting about us. Food was average, nothing special. I got 50/50 and partner got beef burger. Tomato tasted like it was cooked on a freshly cleaned hot plate as tasted of chemicals. Partner said burger was the same. Tobacco onions were not tobacco onions. Onions were not sliced finely enough therefore were not covered in batter. At no point during the meal did a member of staff ask if the food was okay or if they could get us anything else. Finished up meal and sat for around 20 minutes waiting for table to be cleared and desserts to be offered. Two members of staff serving other tables in the area walked passed and did not notice our table hadn’t been cleared. In the end we got fed up of waiting to be served, paid our bill at the bar and left. Disappointing experience as expected high standards being part of the Bentley group. Reluctant to spend money here again. Also noticed that only 2 members of staff were able to take orders. There was a staff member that was drying cutlery for the entirety of our visit and the rest of the staff were hanging around the kitchen hatch, enjoying their drinks while waiting to deliver food to tables.

Went to watch The Jive Aces during the Jazz Festival so didn't eat here. It looks well kept, so will try it next time I'm in Derry.

Excellent food and good service. Had lunch on bank holiday weekend Sunday the cheese steak sandwich was gorgeous and highly recommended also the buttermilk chicken burger. Worth a return visit.

Food was lovely but pricey for just main, and sauce of choice. No veg came with Sunday menu. Staff very lax. Had to make 2 trips to the bar to get waiter/ waitress. Pity really.
