Finished our tour of the farm at 11.55 to join the lunch queue... it took 20 minutes to place our order as the service counter is badly organised (the poor kid taking the orders has to write them down, put them through an old fashioned till on the back wall, take payment on a different terminal, then give the written order to the kitchen). An electronic point of sale integrated with the kitchen isn't witchcraft people!! The food took 40 minutes to arrive (two bug burgers and a kids pizza). So we'd been waiting an hour and were all really hungry. Despite being hungry, we left most of our food. The pizza was floppy and bready, no crunch at all. The bug burgers were bland and textureless - our abiding memory of eating insect burgers is the fact that it just tasted of mayo. If you pureed some beans and fried them with no seasoning you could achieve the same as the burger. And there were flies everywhere. Fair enough, it's next to a farmyard, but having loads of flies in a place when the gimmick is to garnish with fried insects is a bit gross.

Really unusual restaurant! We tried it for the experience. I had the curry veg with the cricket pakora and a sprinkle of meal worms! Was a very tasty meal washed down with local beer. My son had the cricket burger which he enjoyed. My daughter was less enthused about the Vexo (ground bugs) Bolognese..tasted much like Quorn. Suggest going early or late to allow the first sitting to Peter out as no booking available. We also visited the museum and bug house onsite. Very educational experience.

The whole experience of visiting this place was truly amazing. The food was really delicious... and the concept of helping feed the world in a much more sustainable way is both innovative and exciting. My friend and I had a wonderful time, first the eating and relishing the tastes, following by a fascinating tour of the bug farm and were lucky to find Dr Sarah in there who shared some of her knowledge on many of the bugs. There is just not one bad thing you can say about this place. Its chef, Andy, has a rare speciality: cooking with insects. There is pretty much no one else in the country doing this and yet here, having learned from scratch (because there is no benchmark or manual, like there is with any other type of cooking) the Grub Kitchen has perfected the art form. Exquisite bug burgers, spiced crickets and locusts on the side. Everything cooked tenderly and with great flavours. The cafe is large, with interesting pictures of insects on the walls, and a brilliant space to eat having toured the intriguing bug farm next door (run by Andy's wife, a leading entomologist). But to call it a 'cafe' is not really fair - whilst it does delicious coffee and cakes there is no ho-hum cafe food here, it is all carefully thought-through and what you eat takes weeks of planning and preparation to get the flavours right. It's only open daytimes at the moment but hopefully soon will be open evenings and will surely then become the top place to eat in St Davids. It is hands down the boldest and most original.

Arrived late (3pm) in St David's looking for lunch - this place was perfect - very friendly with an energetic and open atmosphere, with great selection of music (we love disco, but that was just lucky). Good specials but we avoided the insect-based menu (risk averse in spite of years in Africa and Asia) and went for the lamb as we were ravenous. The food was swiftly prepared, fresh and beautifully presented - and a great combination of flavours. Pot of perfectly prepared tea and we were set up for a spin round the cathedral before closing time!!

Booked a table with friends to tryout the Grub Kitchen at the Bug Farm for Saturday night. There was an error with the booking so we Andy Holcroft offered for us to comeback for Sunday Lunch and provided us with a free taster starter of bugs, free drinks and cricket cookies.I had the Bug Burger for the main and my friends had the Southern Fried Chicken with Bug Batter, the Bug Curry, Bug Pakoras. The starter bugs were tasty too. I was most surprised by the ants which tasted like Citrus and Coffee. Which we were informed the the Citrus taste is the natural taste of the Ants. The Ants were also a great garnish on the Tomatoes. The restaurant also offers to cook you the food bug free if those who prefer not to have the added extras ;-).Defo going to visit again and next time have look around the Farm.

The chicken and bug coating was gorgeous. And we enjoyed our bug sharing platter! When climate change is impacted by intensive food production maybe we could all take a lesson from how bugs etc could become a better means of protein intake etc. Thanks for a great lunch.

I came here with my daughters and we all had a nice meal, I chose the flatbread with mealworkm hummus with black ant tatziki and it was tasty although it could have done with another pipece of flatbread. Girls went for the more traditional macaroni cheese. The fact that there are tables next to the play area is brilliant for those with children,. The only problem, which I hope they'll sort soon, is that when we arrived there were no tables and instead of putting our name on a waiting list as you'd expect, they told us to hang around and grab the first free table (literally!). Given that there are not many optons around (ytou'd have to drive to St Davids to get a meal somewhere else) and this is place that attracts families and is meant to be a visit of a few hours, it's essential that their cafe caters for busy days. We were lucky to get a table quite soon, but it's not a pleasant experience to be eyeing around and silently competing with other people for a table, or eating your food with someone watching over your shoulder ready to ask as politely as possible if you're leaving soon. Some tables were booked, which is something that probably doesn't work for this kind of venue.

I think this place is more than just a tick off your bucket list. It certainly was a unique take on dinner with friends. We pretty much sampled the whole menu and most of the dishes were quite good! Highlights were the Pakora, the hummus from the starters and I would defintiely recommend the pork loin from the mains. The goat was not great, and would be the only dish I wouldn't recommend. They do have a frequently changing menu, which is great. We were the only people waiting for food so it was nice to have the place to ourselves. We sat in the beautiful courtyard with our two dogs in the sunshine overlooking the hills. The location couldn't be more idyllic. We were offered drinks and were told that they don't stock traditional branded drinks but they do stock a nice array of organic and unusual soft drinks. Taking 3 choosy children in the hope of finding something for them to eat was either brave or stupid. It turned out it was the right choice and my nephews tucked into the bug and meal work flapjacks with gusto. They were so into their midmorning snack that they resembled a couple of chickens scratching their way through the fruity oaty flapjack looking for (and eating) the bugs. My niece chose a sophisticated rose lemonade scone with berry compote which was delicious. I took them later in the day for a late lunch and that was a positive experience too. Beautifully presented macaroni cheese and locally made sausages for the children with a salad and chips. For myself the daring bug crusted fried chicken. A gargantuan plateful of delicious chicken despite the mealworm, the best beetroot chutney I've ever had with a gorgeous dressed salad. The coffee decent and a lovely choice of natural and old fashioned fruit drinks. Absolutely beautiful food in a cosy restaurant with cheerful and helpful staff. Great day out (family day out on hold with 9&6yr old and our pooch who trotted along too). We arrived at 1pm and left at 5pm. Delish food, bugs and non bug dishes, beautifully presented, staff v friendly and helpful. We hit lunchtime rush so bit of a wait but well worth it for freshly made delicious food (£40 for 1x starter, 4x main, 1x side and 4x bottled drinks, v pleased with that given high standard of food), we actually returned later for cuppa (massive pot) and cheeky wee sorbet. In addition to £20 entry (family of 4) we joined bug handling session (£1extra pp), fun interactive activity with well informed, enthusiastic staff who were lovely with excited kids and intrigued adults alike. The short meadow walk and small walled gardens were inspirational, got a few ideas for own garden, there's an undercover play barn and bug themed shop and all facilities are finished to really high standard in keeping with farm setting. The bug museum and bug zoo were really informative and well laid out and passing staff keen to point out other bits of interest. They advertise a wide calendar of events too, check out website. Ate here on a quiet Friday night, just before the season took off. The welcome, the service and general atmosphere of this very pleasant restaurant is praiseworthy. The menu was limited, but undoubtedly interesting, with some bug-free options alongside more challenging choices, such as pate with black ants and bug bhaji.. our starter choices. Both were far nicer than they sound - the black ants a little like popping candy in the mouth feel! Our main course choices were sea bass with cockles and laverbread chowder and a slow cooked shoulder of goat. Both very good, served with dauphinoise potatoes, but surprisingly, no vegetables. Nor were any available as side dishes on the menu. Our desserts and an exceptional Sauvignon Blanco completed the evening. This place has great promise. We enjoyed our visit but will be expecting a little more finesse as numbers and popularity increase.

This ground-breaking enterprise was buzzing when we visited on a dull February day and I was delighted to see a party of small boys devouring their cricket-burgers with relish. Everything we tasted was delicious: beautifully presented and tasty. Put aside any reservations you may have: Grub Kitchen produces fantastic food!

From phonecall to book to our arrival the chef was so friendly and attentive. He spoke passionately snout the food and the farm. We had onion bhaji starter, delicious.

The Grub Kitchen in St.Davids is a real find. Recently opened by chef Andrew Holcroft, it offers a pretty unique gastronomic experience: Bug burgers, mealworm macchiatos & cricket cookies! It is a mecca for entomophagists (insect eaters!) and a brilliant experience for those of us trying out baked bugs for the first time. We loved the food and the restaurant itself which is an old cow shed on the farm. Andrew's partner Dr Sarah Beynon runs the award-winning Bug Farm across the yard from the restaurant and offers a superb tour of the tropical bug house. Handling stick insects and cockroaches proved a huge hit with the kids. Hugely recommended.

We had a lovely birthday dinner here, the food was simply amazing. The portions were large, fantastically presented, and delicious. It is possible to order meals that don't contain any grubs, but I would recommend trying something different. The menu is simple and elegant, it's clear they take so much pride in their cooking. Andy explained everyone's questions and the Bug Zoo is also worth a visit whilst your food is being prepared!

During our stay at Grove of Narbeth, the highlight of the visit was the seven course taster experience at the Fernery. After being warmly welcomed by Luke, offered drinks, we were seated in the plush restaurant, and the delights followed. The dishes, the craftsmanship, the ingredients (the chef is obviously a genius), the enthusiasm from all the staff describing each dish, their sommelier Cathryn's expert choices and advice - was about as perfect as any taster experience we've enjoyed. Each course was presented beautifully, the choice of ingredients varied in a way that wasn't at all repetitive. The "Grove Vegetables" following fresh breads was immediately impactful with freshness and wonderful kale sauce with hints of seaweed. For "The Love of the Sea" with lobster on a tomato base again fresh, light and so tasty - as well as beautiful. And on it went with Sea Bass and a Beef dish to die for. Just outstanding presentation and flavours. As we moved towards dessert we were presented with “Farmesan” a cheese a hard Welsh cheese that resembels Parmesan - aged for over 3 years. They aerate the cheese with cocoa butter and serve with a pepper sorbet and black olive. Just wow. And to finish "Hedgerows", a delightful dessert so multi-layered it's hard to describe. The overall flavour seemed to present Christmas and carrot cake on a bed of meringue. What's not to love? In conclusion, probably the finest taster menu we've ever had (and we've had quite a few). Mostly because of the menu, ingredients, execution, presentation and, of course, taste. But also because of the team - from the maitre d, to the sommelier, to the procession of smiling, enthusiastic waiters. Simply superb. Cannot recommend highly enough.

This pub I know well for it's food, service & reputation. We recently visited since the new ownership has taken over, what has happened? It was like walking into a different pub ! Menu changes with none the favourites on there like the famous lamb shanks gone ! We expected some changes the food we had was ok the service was OK it put me off to see 3 waitresses chatting away on several occasions behind bar. The atmosphere has changed too maybe no attentive chat like when previous owners were there. Sometimes we have to look back at all the fabulous customer service that it had and wonder how they did it with great passion.

The fish was cooked to perfection, with a light, golden-brown batter that was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside

We visited Charlie’s Restaurant for the very first time yesterday and it certainly didn’t disappoint. As soon as I walked in I felt instantly ‘at home’ .. the beautifully designed decor was not only a feast for the eyes but felt incredibly cosy too. With it being December it was dressed for the season, with two beautiful Christmas trees adding to the festive vibe. We had Sunday lunch .. my husband and grandson had the beef and I opted for the chicken. The ‘Molly Parkin’ parsnips were absolutely gorgeous and made the perfect accompaniment to our meals .. which were all absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend this delightful little restaurant! Claire Goodchild
