Gro Coffee in South Ayrshire

Such a great cafe. Food was phenomenal. Chicken and pancakes were an amazing combo. Coffee is great. Huge selection of sweet items as well. Definitely coming back to try more.

Great food and outstanding cakes.

Update: May 6th Unfortunately we did not have a great experience today. Service was painfully slow, staff were inattentive, and although the order was taken correctly, what was sent out by the kitchen was wrong, but by this time we'd been waiting nearly 40 minutes and were starving. Food was bland, tasteless and had a look like it had been sitting under a heat lamp. Unfortunately this is a decline in quality and service that we've been witnessing over the last 7-8 months, and it's such a shame because GRO used to be brilliant. --- Always good food at Gro, service can be a little slow, and the soft drinks are very niche. Lovely atmosphere and seating areas.

I love the atmosphere and have been here 3 times. The food is quite decent and the cakes too. Coffee/ tea/ kombucha is spot on. The staff, however, particularly today, are quite unreactive. They take forever to take orders, all 3 times didn’t bring forks or knives and I’ve had to go ask them and then they never come back to see if you want anything further; all 3 times I’ve been there I’ve went back to order a cake and been told to go back to my seat and no one ever came. I think there should be a management change or shift supervisor change to teach the staff to be just a little more reactive? Also, who drinks tea in the UK without milk? lol. All 3 times I ordered earl grey and no milk, and didn’t want to bother and ask as they seemed uninterested. Of note, twice had not been busy and once was. Maybe a smile or something would be nice? Also, this place says they are dog friendly but they really aren’t. I’d work on the staff at this location. Maybe pay them a bit more? You do get what you pay for, and it seems they’re probably minimum wage? They’re only doing minimum wage service, and that’s probably acceptable unless you pay staff what they deserve. Thanks!

I've visited the GRO in Irvine on two occasions,so this made me want to try the GRO in Ayr. I can only say that both cafe's are absolutely sensational! Highly recommended and worth every penny!

Visited for first time following high recommendation. Unfortunately on this occasion food and service was a huge let down. We waited over an hour for our food, despite being told it was ‘just coming’ when we enquired after 40minutes of ordering. Both tables next to us ordered after us and had been served and away by the time we received our food. Whilst my own choices was delicious, my daughter and her partner both commented that their food was not very hot. We decided not to ask for exchange as we were now pushed for time, not to mention being very hungry. We did log a complaint when leaving and this was dealt with efficiently by manager. We were planning to return at sometime during our holiday, but decided to eat elsewhere. Hopefully this was just a combination of errors on the day for whatever reason. Our complaint was at least dealt with to satisfaction. I do hope to return sometime.

Nice ambience. Very slow service, even for just a takeout coffee.

Overpriced, can never get a table and music too loud

Food is great as always but the service was poor - servers chatting to each other while we were waiting for someone to take our order surrounded by dirty tables and debris on the floor. Question - should long hair be tied up while serving?

Takeaway today, 3 cakes and two coffees Caramel cup - excellent Strawberry tart - best had in a long time Donut with chocolate inside, maybe a bueno one, lovely and fresh. The staff all very friendly, even customers waiting for tables all happy. There was a good vibe about this place think il return for a sit in meal as really liked the feeling of the place. Plus not too far from Glasgow. Maybe some will say a bit dear for what we had but wouldn’t complain as the quality was there.

Possibly the best coffee shop I've came across on my travels, extensive menu, the sweets were amazing and it was a nice place to sit and relax.

Lovely coffee, great organic menu, I originally enjoyed the food however the last 3 times I have been there it has gone downhill dramatically, I recently had breakfast but it was very dry and seemed to be all reheated except the poached eggs, I didn't finish it or complain, previous to that was a burnt omelette, I'll not be eating meals there again, coffee and cake selection is still good, also some seats could do with a good clean, it's a pity it's gone a little downhill cos the staff are great.

We chose Gro coffee as it allows dogs. We had breakfast and stayed till lunch. They even have a dog food section on their menu so your canine companion can enjoy their day out as well. The food is superb 👌 The staff are friendly The decor is charming And the atmosphere is welcoming. They have an array of books for kids to choose from. Stunning outside areas.

Only positive aspect is that this place is dog friendly. I’ve been here many times and had bad experiences but was reluctant to leave a bad review. You have to wait longer for your food if you have allergies, but on many occasions my food has been cross contaminated with allergens despite being told it is prepared separately. Staff are often rude and unhelpful when informed about allergies. Menu was changed so ordering “seasoned fries” actually gets you plain fries for the same price. Everything is overpriced, you’re paying for the “instagram furniture” and oven meals. Cost £11.50 for a beyond meat burger in a gluten free genius roll, comes with no sauce or garnishes and no sides or drink included. Sauce always costs £2 extra and fries are £4.50 for a tiny portion. If you sit outside, staff forget you are there and don’t check how your food is or ask if you need anything. You need to dedicate at least 4 hours to eating here as it takes so long to get seated, and service is incredibly slow even if you just want a sandwich.

Love this place, try it out you won’t regret it! Sunday brunch is the best!

I ordered a wee breakfast with a cup of tea, my tea arrived in a pot with a very dirty cup, which was changed to a clean one (these things happen). When my breakfast arrived, I was less than impressed (not worth the money) I started to eat when I noticed that the link sausage was very undercooked, it was closer to raw than cooked, I couldn't even taste it, yuk

Staff pleasant and helpful. Food was OK. I had chicken tenders but they were overcooked. Partner had pizza which was good

We stumbled across Gro yesterday when staying in Ayr for a family gathering. We could not belive how lovely the decor is inside, followed by the service and the food itself! Yesterday we had a late lunch/early dinner and this morning we returned for breakfast. The food and coffee is next level. We are already planning to come back just to experience more of the menu!

Unfortunately I was sadly disappointed today. I had recommended Gro to colleagues so we went today for lunch. After waiting 1 and half hours we asked about our food, to be told our was still being prepared. We were starving and tables who came in after us had theirs food. There was little apology and we left hungry. What a pity!

Excellent pizza and breakfast next morning was very good. Staff very friendly and the whole place has a 'Central Perk' feel to it.

Lovely setting, tasteful decoration throughout. Comfortable seating. The food was delicious and well received. 45 minutes wait seemed a bit too long, though, although the venue was very busy. Lots of combinations. My toastie was white thick cut bread, cheddar, organic tofu with pickles, and pineapple. Good staff, nice coffee. Dog friendly. Vast selection of cakes. Lots of parking.

Went in to get takeout food the place was really busy so expected a wait. The dessert display is good and got one to takeaway for later. Noticed whilst waiting the organic juices offered were sainsburys SO organic carton range so when considering prices charging for a bit or sainsburys orange juice is quite steep. After quite a long wait for food we took to car to eat. The breakfast was poor was barely warm and sausages were barely cooked. Having waited that long for undercooked food was very disappointing. The cookie got from dessert counter wad good. Service was rushed and quality of food is very poor would not return.

Like warm coffee which was spilled all over cup and saucer o the way to the table, no effort to clean it up so hah to get extra napkins and do it myself also no sugar and when I asked it was brought and thrown on the table food ok but pretty bland ,won't be back

Beef was a little dry, but the portion was good. Milkshake was good. Missed the extra bacon but once pointed out this was rectified quickly.

What a great place to stop and have something to eat. Such a wide variety of things to choose from. Was very impressed.

We stopped in on a busy Saturday, so just got take away cakes and drinks. Cakes looked amazing and were super tasty.

Amazing place, just on our doorstep. Lovely friendly atmosphere, calm, relaxed and such comfortable seating it's hard to leave! We popped in for a coffee and ended up having an amazing breakfast. All I can say is don't eat for a day or two beforehand because the portions are definitely generous. The coffee is delicious, not bitter just full of flavour. This is an ideal place to while away a couple of hours. Others brought books which I would do another time. Well behaved dogs are welcome here, they even have their own menu selection! The place was busy but not intrusive. Chatter and music in the background gives weight to the atmosphere. We will be back soon for sure, although maybe I would order a kids portion lol 😄

Went to GRO in between Christmas and New Year after a wedding in Ayrshire, and needing a bit of a late morning pick-me-up! Coffee is excellent and the selection of cakes is out of this world - almost comic book sized proportions. Amazing. It was really beautifully decorated for Christmas and it had a real buzz about it.

Ordered soup, it was cold, asked waitress to reheat in microwave, should have taken a second but took over ten minutes by which time the people I was with had eaten. They didn't even apologise for the poor service.

Service and staff were excellent and we managed to to do a lovely stream promo For there live upcoming event next Saturday so all went great.

Absolutely amazing food matched by lovely, friendly service. Only slight drawback for me was the music was a wee bit loud. I know others probably like it that way though. Will definitely be back.

Havent been here for some time,Was busy lunchtime we had baked potato with cheese and beans, and Nachos. Beans were lukewarm ,no checkback made, had to ask server to bring our coffees as they had not been brought out with food as requested. Dissapointing will not be rushing back.

Daylight Robbery, we went for a small take- away americano coffee and a medium black coffee with 2 empire biscuits. It came to £16.00. I was too shocked at the time and just paid but I cannot get over how that is even possible. How can people afford to go here? Will not be back which is a shame as the atmosphere and the girls are lovely.

Very disappointing. Visited with my husband for lunch on 29th November as he hadn’t been before. We waited a while for our order to be taken and even longer (about 25 minutes) for Stornaway Benedict and Eggs Benedict. When it eventually arrived both meals were stone cold!! On paying at the desk I was asked if everything was ok to which I replied it was stone cold. The young girl did not even acknowledge my complaint and charged me the full £28 bill!! I subsequently emailed a complaint yesterday afternoon and, as yet, no reply. Of note, I had a similar experience of cold, long awaited food two years ago and I’m still waiting for someone to get back to me. Sorry but there won’t be a third chance!!

I was sat on the most impractical sofa you'll ever see just because it's 'trendy' (Get real chairs, this is real life in AYR not instagram in L.A) The table in front was equally as ridiculous as it was only about 20cm from the ground, hunched over that much to eat I walked out looking like quasimodo. £4 for a glass of orange juice I got about 2 sips out of, it looked like it came in a shot glass. The breakfast itself was decent but there are far better places to go provided you don't care about pics for the gram. Probably would have left if there wasn't 2 cute dogs in front of my hobbit table, they made it slightly better.

Delicious, piping hot food, amazing drinks. Good attention to detail in presentation of the kids milkshakes. The staff were friendly. The atmosphere was lovely and cosy and the cakes were huge!!!

Food always great, service can be slow and bit hit or miss. Can be trickly getting a table when it's busy. Could do with a kids menu or similar. Dog firendly, excellent food and cakes.

The cakes look great but are not fresh and have been stale for the second time in a row. Coffee is nice and the staff are always very helpful. We have been back to Gro a few times now, however we do consistently get microwaved food. Chicken strips that are soggy and rice very overcooked and mushy. This was on the specials for the day. The chicken strips arrived within 5 minutes of placing the order and before the drinks! Such a shame because it does have a good atmosphere but the food is just not good. We were regulars but have stopped going now.

This bakery and coffee shop, have the most delicious food and deserts and as well as a wonderful costumer service. And you can bring your dog in to the shop. Definitely a place where to hung out with friends and family.

Lovely to be welcomed in with my dog. So far been 4 times . Left the first time as it took 20 mins and asked twice and still no menu. 2nd and 3rd a bit better but still slow service and my husbands bacon was cold he didn't want to say anything as we were running late. Last time Friday 6th October got our menus and drinks really quick and then 30 to 40 mins for food . The food was great this time but the service is too slow and would have preferred my coffee alongside my pancakes.

When the food arrived it was really good. Staff were very busy, bright and cheerful. Good atmosphere. Having a dog on a seat at table height was off-putting. The staff didn't appear to mind.

Great Brunch! Excellent selection of pastries. The big gro hot chocolates are thick, creamy and paired with marshmallows. Truly a sight to behold

Wow....what a place. Stopped here expecting to get a quick coffee and sandwich to take away. When I went in I was surprised initially at how busy it was but luckily got a seat and was able to take my pooch in with me. The food menu is so extensive and you will be spoiled for choice. Dog friendly menu too which is always a bonus. Aye not the cheapest but you will be full when you leave and certainly will be tempted but the lots of homebakes to choose from. I wish it wasn't so far away from my house or I would be a regular there that's for sure.

Gro coffee Ayr: Amazing place!!!! In fact, my new fave. Staff are delightful and even remembered that we had recently moved to the area and asked how we were settling in. We've been for brunch and for dinner. Each time the food was lovely, you get loads and great value for money. Atmosphere is ace - it's really busy but they've been able to fit us in . Cakes are AMAZING, we even took some home! Can't wait to go back..

We were up visiting family who suggested this place, it's an absolutely lovely place to eat, I think we could of eaten everything on the menu. (We did try) 😆 The staff are all so nice and we could of easily stayed longer if we'd had the time.

This is a brilliant place to go for a wide choice of food. Lovely coffee and cakes to die for. Breakfast pancakes with bacon etc yummy. Great staff and a great atmosphere. Beats all the big chain restaurants hands down. Dog friendly too. 🐶

Absolutely fantastic all round. Free onsite parking. Staff were polite, friendly and very attentive. Food was brilliant with good portion sizes. Very laid back atmosphere, perfect for going with children. Note that it is dog friendly so if you have (severe) allergy or fear this may not be the place for you. However, from what I observed all dogs there when I was were impeccably behaved. Would recommend and will visit again.

Simple menu but high quality food and good value for money

Absolutely love this place, so much choice with the seating both inside and out. Blankets provided outdoors. The cake display will have your mouth watering 😋 & whatever you pick you will be coming back for a second choice another day. Staff attentive but not overbearing l. Decor & beautiful little lights are so tasteful.. A little book corner is so sweet. Plenty parking & disabled spaces.
