Great place for food,drinks and cakes

Disappointed. Wasn't as good as the original in Irvine. Long wait for drinks then even longer wait for food.

Been in here a few times. Food and the coffee are both lovely and the place itself is really nice inside. Most staff were really nice but the woman behind the cakes area was really rude and short with everyone, she might have just been having a bad day. One odd thing, if you have any allergies you cannot buy any of the cakes. Usually when you mention something like "Is there peanuts in that?" You'll be told whether or not it's in the recipe with the obvious disclaimer of "manufactured in a facility that contains nuts" or "we can't guarantee ingredients weren't near nuts" etc. Which is totally fine and standard practice nowadays for anywhere. Here however the waitress said that they do not have any idea what allergens are present in their food and that if you have any allergies you should not be buying anything from them as it's not safe. Which is a bit odd but honest I suppose.

My favourite coffee house. The food is good, as is the coffee. The cakes are divine, and my dog is allowed.

This bakery and coffee shop, have the most delicious food and deserts and as well as a wonderful costumer service. And you can bring your dog in to the shop. Definitely a place where to hung out with friends and family.

Second time there. Loved the place and the way it's set out . It's good that we could bring g our dog too. Unfortunately the breakfast was not up to standard. Food was not hot and mushrooms under cooked , potato scone was like leather.

We just wanted a light lunch, en route from Glencoe to Cairnryan and thought this place looked nice. We were told there was a 15 minutes to be seated which we didn't mind given that it was lunchtime and the cafe was fairly busy. We were shown to a seat where we waited another 20 minutes for our order to be taken. The waitress didn't apologise for this delay nor even smile when speaking to us. She showed absolutely no interest in us nor her job but we thought maybe this was just because she was busy or maybe wasn't happy in her job.... we'd watched the same attitude when she was with other customers. We waited a further 25 minutes before calling her over to ask her where our order was, simply to be told, very abruptly and without an apology, 'we're very busy', before walking off again. No apology was offered at any time for the delay nor an offer to go check how long it might be before we'd be served!. Another 5 minutes went past so I asked her to go check when we would be served as we were now running late. Her retort was that I should have told her we were in a hurry on our arrival! I explained that we weren't in a hurry when we arrived but due to the unreasonable wait we now were! She still made no apology and instead brought our teas and water over from the bar but still no food.arrived. We waited a further 5 minutes and as neither she nor our food had appeared we finally left....hungry, annoyed and now late. I can't speak about the other members of staff but this young lady needs trained in customer service and her general attitude towards all her customers. Our first visit here turned out to be a very disappointing experience. This might have been better had there only been a few customers in but surely if the business accept customers and the cafe is capable of seating them all at one time, it should also be capable of feeding them within a reasonable wait time. So customer, if you can't risk waiting for over an hour to eat lunch or you'd expect an apology for such a long delay and maybe a bit of polite conversation during your wait (even if not very friendly!) then best not go here! Disappointed++

They quoted me 50 min wait for a table of two but the party of four that came in behind me was seated a right away.

Bacon, potato scone and black pudding were all over cooked for all four breakfasts. Payment with cash is not accepted.

Food was nice but they wouldn’t accept my cash. Any business that does not accept legal tender does not deserve business!!

We have visited a good few times , unfortunately this was our worst experience as Standards are slipping . Once we got seated it took ages to get served , the food arrived cold and we never received our full order despite asking . The staff walked about in a daze without taking care of the customers needs . When you check out they don’t even ask how your experience was as I was waiting to tell them about our experience on the day, the lack of care sums up the experience we had on the day . To sum up , poor/cold food, poor service the staff don’t care .

Came here with a few friends for a catch up after seeing many positive reviews on social media. First off we waited around 20 minutes for a table which was fine but after being seated we waited a further 25 minutes for someone to take our order. Once our drinks arrived the server threw them onto the table spilling most of the drinks onto the table and walked away which meant we then had to ask someone else for a cloth to clean up. After ordering our food we spent around half an hour waiting on it coming out to us which at this point we were all starving. The food came out well presented but absolutely freezing. My partner got the big gro breakfast and the only thing that was hot was the beans. I got the mediterranean eggs but swapped the parma ham to halloumi as i am vegetarian. My friend got the Hot Eggs which were awful aswell. My partner went up to complain at all our food being cold and they offered to remake the food, my partner accepted this offer but my friend and I declined as at this point we had been put off and left our meals to the side. My partners second meal came out cold aswell and at this point we asked for the bill. Only my partners meal was taken off the bill and i was charged an extra £4 for swapping the parmaham for halloumi which was not mentioned at the time of ordering. We then asked to speak to the manager as paying £60 for nothing being eaten seemed rediculous. The manager refused to come and speak to us and told the server to just take it off the bill. Overall we spent over 2 hours in the restaurant due to poor service, definitely a disappointing experience and for the manager to not even come and apologise is appalling.

We came from East kilbride on Tuesday morning for breakfast we orderd food and 50mins later still no breakfast. So we left. Very poor performance.

Met my daughter and grandkids for coffee and cake. Very busy. Had to wait about ten minutes or so for a table. Staff are friendly and helpful. Yummy cakes.

Absolutely phenomenal. My partner and I were down for the weekend and staying in a nearby hotel and came for dinner, and saw they also did breakfasts and brunch. Dinner was so fresh, and tasty! Both had burgers and got some wee chicken tenders to share. So so flavourful. The Scotsman burger was a personal favourite, and the tenders were so juicy, and perfect crisp and crunch. The next day we came for breakfast - and we were not disappointed! I got the eggs royal with hash browns (closest in pic) partner got a brunch special poached eggs, nduja pulled pork, with a nutella hot chocolate (furthest in pic). Absolute 10/10. At first glance, the prices maybe seem a bit much, but the quality, freshness and portions more than make up for it. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Food was pretty good, had the big breakfast, everything seemed fresh and was very tasty. Coffee wasn't amazing, but still good. Service was good, but staff at the service counter seemed preoccupied and un-interested, it was busy though so can be expected to an extent.

I usually always go to the Irvine one. First time visiting Ayr. Always love Gro, food and cakes are amazing so definitely 5 stars. I was really disappointed by one member of the staff, I found her very rude and just unfriendly. I asked for a Kombucha and she looked at me as if I was stupid, then corrected my pronunciation, but with very bad attitude. All the Irvine staff I’ve found welcoming and lovely so it was a little disappointing for my first visit to Ayr. Do not let this put you off though, we all have off days, but still 😬

Was in a few weeks ago, and had the best chicken I've had in along while 10/10, went back in on Friday, excited for similar, and they had changed to chicken thigh, wasn't nice at all, fatty and very overcooked 2/10. Makes me not want to chance it again unfortunately. Everything else was lovely, including the staff and the place itself

I highly recommend trying the chicken tenders; they are exceptional. Our favorites are the buffalo and sriracha maple varieties. The food quality consistently surpasses expectations. However, service requires improvement (with the exception of one employee); following food delivery, there is a lack of attentiveness and follow-up. While it's feasible to request additional service, proactive customer care is lacking. Despite this, I strongly recommend a visit to experience the food, particularly given the appealing baked goods.

Had breakfast and it was delicious. The desert bar was breathtaking. Everyone in our group felt compelled to take a photo. It all looked so delicious. A great atmosphere and lovely staff. They are dog friendly and the restaurant is full of greenery. It was a full house when I arrived but I was served promptly and the food arrived quickly. Ample parking Would reccomend.

We have brunch here fairly often, and we always enjoy it. Pleasant welcoming atmosphere, food is great quality, menu is diverse. Good coffee and as your leaving you can grab a nice cake! Oh and it's dog friendly 😊

Nice cosy atmosphere and good food. I really enjoy the seasonal theming, they go all out! Great if you want to chat late with friends but don’t really want to be in a pub. This being said I do have a few qualms. 1) I find it strange that mayo is extra but ketchup is readily available. 2) Burgers don’t come with chips, they’re extra. 3) rooibos is misspelled on the menu 4) I wish they would have placards or labels for their sweet treats at the front so you know what they are.

Got a take away coffee and cake , it was so busy , almost too busy

Very disappointing, breakfast roll was very small and did not come with the two items ordered, only one. The staff didn't want to know. My wife's tiny breakfast roll did come with two items but a spoonful of scrambled egg doesn't constitute a serving. Come on guys, at the price you are asking, get your act together. It used to be so good but now is expensive and not worth the money.

Please don't change a thing! Great food, fair prices and fantastic staff. The portions are brilliant, you wont leave hungry. The cakes are also excellent. We will be back!

Good location just off the A77. Plenty of parking available for free outside Gro Coffee. We had lunch and the food was very nice with decent portion sizes. I was a little disappointed with the hot chocolate as it was ok but I was expecting more from it. Cakes are very nice and decently priced. Dogs are welcome inside.

Absolutely fantastic! Great place for coffee and food. Potion sizes are brilliant and tasty to. Belting staff and all look happy which is great to see. Very clean and tidy place! A real gem of a find!

Me and ma wee dug went for a coffee, a great setting for dog owners, and very welcome.

No pictures of the food because we were hungry! Great food, great service. Dog friendly! Be prepared to potentially have to wait to be seated if you go at a busy time. It's a very popular spot and I can see why. You should go and find out for yourself!

Great place, great coffee, great cakes, great food! Couldn't say much more to be honest. We found this little gem randomly on holiday and loved it!

Hit or miss- super busy at weekends but fast service once seated. On the weekday afternoons you’ll wait 15/20 mins to order coffee as the teenagers who work there are too busy catching up with each other whilst the place is actually quiet.The last 3 times I’ve been for food, food arrives before drinks (you desperately need a second coffee machine if that’s the hols up). Food is good as are the cakes but the cakes are the same old selection all the time now, bring back actual cake slices or something different.

Beautiful place that never disappoints !! Sometimes the service is a bit slow but to be honest it’s never impacted our visits. The staff is always friendly and the food is gorgeous! 🫶🏻

Food is usually always good here. The cakes are stellar; would highly recommend taking one hole if you feel too full to eat one when you're there. Staff are normally pleasant, but during busy times can't be absent and waits to get served can be slightly longer.

Terrible service and below par breakfast! Waited around 15mins to get served before having to ask one of the servers if we could place our order, once taken took around another 40mins to arrive concidering the place was half empty is a bit long. Picture speaks for itself... the fact it was £13.10 for that when you can get cheaper and better breakfasts out of any supermarket cafe is quite funny. Eggs and bacon looked and tasted like it was cooked under the heat lamp, cheap tasting sausages. On a good note, my partners pancakes were good. Last 2 visits to Gro have been a disappointment, won't be going back.

Delicious kids burgers 🍔 and pizza was fresh dough.

Coffee was excellent as usual, scone was very good, soup was okay, could have been warmer. Service was great and atmosphere was enhanced by the presence of lots of canine companions.

Great purpose build restaurant with lively rustic decor. Visited on week day morning, it was quiet and peaceful. Staff were brilliant and cake choices were obviously perfect and oh so very delicious.

Great place for grabbing a bite while out with the dog. Choice of food for the dog as well btw... Dogs very welcome

A really nice roadside treat, LOADS of sweet stuff that's super good, but I went for more of a lunch and ended up with the buffalo chicken skillet and we also ordered eggs Benedict, it was really well done, the portion of chicken was surprisingly large and the Mac and cheese was delicious, in told the eggs were excellently pouched and overall the place seemed to just do food well, the service was also very accommodating and quite quick but there was still a wait to be seated, admittedly we came mid lunch time

I visited this place during a short stay in Ayr, and the staff truly make it exceptional. The coffee is amazing, and I was pleasantly surprised with free biscuits on my first visit and free cakes on my second visit, both times close to closing time. I highly recommend this spot for anyone who loves proper coffee. 10/10 for everything. Thank you guys.

Went here on the recommendation from a local. Underwhelming. The food was average and overpriced for what you get, the pancakes were stale, the bacon was undercooked slightly and definitely not 'American' style. I don't understand the vibe, it's situated where an out-of-town McDonald/KFC so I guess it could be considered a diner. Outdoor seating for a diner seems odd then you realise there's a separate alcohol menu. So is it a restaurant? Is it a cafe? Is it trying to be an American diner? Is it a pub? Seems popular so obviously filling a hole in the market but I think I'd rather walk round the town and find a decent cafe next time.

We love GRO. It has a wide variety of sumptuous food, sweet and savoury. We usually go for brunch. It's dog-friendly and had a great choice of seating options, tables with chairs or comfy sofas.

Food-lovely Staff-lovely Atmosphere- a really nice space Even though I know it's a dog-friendly place I think there should be separate areas for dogs. Next to us there was a Bernese Mountain dog?? Sitting, it's head was way above table height. Then the owners allowed it to sit up with paws and head on the table. I don't think this is acceptable.

Fantastic breakfast, although I ordered the big breakfast, wasn't that big, but it was nice, Bisciff pancakes were massive and amazing!! Kids' pancakes were lovely, too, and very nice.

I really wanted to like it, as some folks recommend it to us. I eyed it up on way past few times and we finally took the plunge. Coffee was..burnt. we returned it twice. Mine was just drinkable but whatever they did to cappuccino made it taste like tar. I'd expect better from a place with a decent coffee machine. Second time in 10 years we requested coffee to be redone (1st one funnily enough costa which is barely drinkable anyhoo)... Husband got a bit of attitude from young people working there. Hes polite and doesnt get his feathers ruffled easily so he viewed it as young ppl not caring etc but i must say... they should be made to drink what they serve. It'd teach them what not to do with coffee. Cake was great, looks lovely, big slices of instant diabetes and that i can safely recommend. Place looked very pleasant i liked decor a lot. Its dog friendly. However I ll not be back there cos coffee..honestly was the worst experience i had in a long while. The owners should pay attention when hiring kids/young adults, and train them in customer service and coffee machine use. The ones we dealt with clearly didnt understand how to use coffee machine. It's harming your business.

So disappointing! Really wanted to like this place as it had been recommended to me. The food looks amazing! Great for photosn but all looks over substance. Poached eggs way over cooked like a boiled egg. Partner had mac and cheese and prefers m&s microwave one rated it 2/10 and left most of it - very expensive wasted journey tbh. Staff didn't ask how meal was once (they probably knew and didn't want to know). Also ordered diet coke and they served a 'sugar free cola' this wasn't explained and worth noting no drinks menu at our table so we didn't realise until it came.

Amazing local coffee/cafe business! Can't recommend this place enough. Amazing atmosphere and decor with a lovely modern, yet cosy feel. Super friendly and attentive staff, offering table service and take away. Food and drinks were amazing! All organic food in massive portions using local ingredients with plenty of choices and reasonable prices. Would highly recommend the make your own toasties.

First of all a don’t like to slate business because it’s hard as it is , but sometimes needs must. Came into grow with my partner and 3 young ones I ordered 1 breakfast roll . 1 veggie breakfast.2 bits of toast. 2.strawberry tarts 1tea and 2 ice lattes . £43 I think . I asked the young girl who served me if there was any bread that was yeast free. And a got a NO right away proper attitude for no reason. Breakfast roll and drinks came right away. Then toast . 30 mins later still waiting on veggie breakfast and 2 cakes . Toast is frozen likewise is tea . I then get asked if I am waiting on something 😡honestly.the girl who served me tried too hide ,oh what was your order again . I then spoke to manager who I said too I just paid £43 for something that’s never came . Big smile on her face . Absolute no clue what too say too me. Too many young workers walking about with no care in the world. Obviously the owner isn’t as you can see it’s do your own thing time when owner isn’t in. Avoid if you don’t want to waste money . Oh and card payment was made and no refund. Total joke of a business

Only missed a star because by the time we got there there was only a very small selection left at 5.10pm on a Sunday. But what we did have was beautiful 😍 I would highly recommend 👌

We couldn't eat.... we left after 3 tables that arrived after us were served even though our order had not yet been taken and the waiters completely ignored us.

Dreadful service, the waitress looked like she didn't want to be there. 40 minutes wait to be served our coffees and after 40 minutes we are told they have no rolls left.The waitress then brings our coffees which were spilt all over the saucers and she didn't clean, we had to clean. £35 for 3 coffees, 1 burger roll and potatoes scones and 2 plates with one slice of bread, a bit of avocado and half a tomato and eggs...we were also charged for mushrooms that we didnt get. And also dogs everywhere, barking as well. We left when family came in with 3 dogs, can't people get out of their house without taking their dogs? Dogs are animals.

Visited Gro coffee whilst away on business, the coffee shop had a really nice friendly vive about the place and was quite busy so must be popular with locals. Ordered a mocha frappe and brownie, which were on buy one get one free. The drink was nice and the brownies rather tasty.

I visited here with two family members and we waited over 40 minutes for our food. Two of the meals were luke warm/cold and were sent back. Thought it was over priced for what was on offer. Unfortunately I can't really recommend it due to personal experience and won't be rushing back.

Very accommodating. We had a large party sat outside initially, as soon as a large table indoors became available we were moved inside no hassle. Coffee was great, food was fresh and fast.

Lovely place with a great vibe inside and extra seats outside. Great pizzas and hot drinks menu. We managed to resist the sweat temptations... But we'll go for them on the next occasion.

Huge disappointment. Went in with almost an hour of time for a quick brunch. Staff forgot to put our order in and wouldn't even have picked up on it if 40mins in we didn't query it. Minimal apologies, resulting in us leaving without ever having been served. The food might have been lovely, had we got to try it - thanks v much....

Coffee was lovely. Was it disappointing I could not select any Gluten Free cakes. None left. You can have a good variety of cakes and the pupil would not know the difference. You missed out on my custom because of this. Disappointing No cake with my coffee.

Take the time to visit this coffee shop . Unique quirky . Food and drinks extensive and meet everyone needs. . You never feel you are rushed to make a move to leave .staff always efficient and pleasant

Whilst staying down near Prestwick, Scotland for the British Open, we stumbled across this great cafe, with an extensive menu offering that had hugely generously sized dishes. We loved their steak and cheddar omelette, and also ordered a chicken sandwich. The range of pastries was also insane with so many cakes, cinnamon buns, donuts and more. Where does one begin? There’s a huge space for people to dine indoors and out, and also is dog friendly. There’s even an area with kids toys and books to occupy your little ones

I've visited the GRO in Irvine on two occasions,so this made me want to try the GRO in Ayr. I can only say that both cafe's are absolutely sensational! Highly recommended and worth every penny!

Carrot cake, basic, no spices, nuts, grains or shreds of carrot. Doughnut I've always liked in here but not with the sickly fillings. Only got served because another customer asked to get served quicker and said we'd been waiting long before them. Took 30 minutes to bring out cake and coffee and the drinks were lukewarm. The girls needs a manager, its not their fault they are just young and need a manager to organise service.

Excellent place to eat, service is solid, atmosphere is great, decor is fantastic. Highly recommend this place! Really poor visit, food was cold, dry, not a high standard, service was poor. And was waiting 30 minutes for a soup.

Overpriced, rolls were floury baps very dry , bacon undercooked, white cold fat. Asked for a sausage for the dog , one link sausage and we were charged £3.00. Had to ask again for our coffees and by the time they arrived our rolls were half eaten and cold. Coffee was more froth than actual coffee and lukewarm. Lovely place but food disappointing . £21.60 overpriced. Definitely won't be back.

Popped in today for a takeaway, waisted nearly 30 mins by which point my coffee was cold. Got to my car only to realise both boxes had a hole in them and maple syrup was pouring out all over my seats. Gro are living on previous reputation, but these days the service is too slow, the staff couldn't care less and when they say "someone is chasing that up with the kitchen" it's means go away you are annoying me.

Service is horrific. 40 mins before we got a coffee. Then 2 out of 3 of the meals wasn't right. Things forgotten. Finally got mine and it was freezing cold. The last 4 visits have been terrible despite giving chance after chance the service hasn't changed. Won't be back.

Been wanting to try this place for years. Long wait but we expected that. Got seated and drinks order taken. The Diet Coke (sugar free cola) they serve is terrible and wife had coffee grains or maybe black pepper floaters in her water, not good. Food order taken, food delivered my order of nacho bowl with Mac and cheese came out as mac and cheese. Sent back and the food that came out and was not the attractive nacho bowl I was expecting. No salsa, a scraping of sour cream and no cheddar sauce on the nachos, but food was good. My wife had the pancakes with biscoff and she loved them. We did have to ask for cutlery after mains had been dropped off. Overall disappointing. Best bit was our dog was allowed in. Really disappointed but will give it another go at some point.

Gro is one of my favourite cafes in the entire world. I love it. Not only is the oat latte great and the food amazing it’s dog friendly and I get to meet many Good Boys! The cakes are ridiculous and the full Scottish breakfast is delicious. And the prices are very reasonable. The decor is stunning and I just love every visit. As a haiku: A true world delight, Oat latte, dogs, cakes in sight, Scottish breakfast bites.

The sourdough I'm not sure is real sourdough. The prices are quite high for the portion sizes. Adding black pudding was £3 and I got one slice...

Really great coffee. Just popped in for a take away coffee and received the richest, creamiest tasty latte, very impressed. Beats the big chains and may of the rest!

Today we went to GRO in Irvine for brunch, however there was a 30 minute wait for a table. We decided to try GRO in Ayr instead. What a difference. Plenty of space, plenty of tables and great decor and atmosphere. Food was delicious! Great friendly welcome and service. From now on we will be visiting GRO Ayr instead of Irvine.
