Gringo's Mexican Smokehouse in Kirklees

The restaurant has now permanently closed as of 30/10/2023 apparently due to foreclosure on the property . We found this out once we arrived at the restaurant yesterday evening 12/11/2023. Ignore the fact you can still book online as we were also victim to this. Such a terrible shame as this was a fantastic restaurant.

The food here never disappoints, it's my families favourite place to eat out.

Went for food tonight ,at 6.15 they had run out of jalapeño cheese bites for starters ordered Mexican beef sandwich ,was so dry ,and fajitas which 3 others had in my party was OK but not brilliant

Food was pretty good. Service also not bad. But the waitress appeared quite distracted and just trotting out the same lines. Atmosphere again was nice and place appeared clean. My only real issue was they'd run out of beef, and pork ribs, and Modelo beer. I understand that a delivery might have been missed. But not great for a Mexican restaurant.

Husband recently visited while on a work trip with his colleagues. This place never disappoints. Excellent food and excellent service. The atmosphere is also spot on.

Honestly the worst Mexican food I’ve ever had. The nachos were stale and tasteless and the enchilada was awful, the chicken was hard and dry like it had been left out and the enchilada just a big mound of pasta that was stuck together with some cheese - also tasteless. If I could get a refund I would!!

Absolutely lovely food! Service was a bit slow but everyone was very friendly and welcoming.

It's such a shame about this place as the food is so nice but the service is terrible. Half the drinks aren't available a lot of the time, and it's common ones like diet coke and lemonade. They even tried to pass off tonic water as lemonade before saying they don't have lemonade after it's been pointed out to them. The card machine has also been broken for weeks somehow. It's an easy fix, get a new one. No restaurant should be cash only or asking you to do a bank transaction to pay. The staff are nice and it's clearly whoever owns/manages the place that is letting it down.

Been a few times when visiting hiddersfield. Was always great food and excellent service. Somethings changed, gone right down hill. wont be back.

Bit noisy for me the night we went in as there was a big group in, excellent food and service though.

Bad and slow service. Charged us for drinks we never received. Good dry and unappetising. Asked for plain chicken salad with no spice and got salad covered in jalapeño. Also waited over 40minutes for our mains.

Been twice recently. First time they ran out of Ribs, second time no steak... pretty poor for a smokehouse. They also forgot our starters. Food that we did get in the end was nice though

Don't know Huddersfield, but needed somewhere to eat as we were meeting friends. Lot of places weren't open Saturday lunchtime so Gringos scores a big point for that. Friendly welcome, great decor and the food was top quality. Was concerned it'd be a carb fest but there was lots of lovely fresh veggies and tasty meat

Very nice food, but must have been short staffed as on this particular night the service was below standard ☹️

Used to come here all the time but must be under new management as it has gone severely downhill, 1.95 for a can of Fanta I could have got from tescos across road, 1 guy working on his own swigging drinks down, ordered a burrito and couldn’t pick it up was just a wrap with a load of mess, nothing was cooked fresh could have made it all myself for a tenner, must be chef microwave cooking it, 40 quid and I left my meal and went home hungry, not going back.

Found this gem in Huddersfield for lunch after taking the children swimming at Huddersfield Leisure Centre. The food was very tasty and decent portion sizes too with a good selection of vegetarian options too. The service was good and friendly. I ordered the Smokehouse Pulled Sandwich & Ribs, which were amazing. The meat just came off the bone and sauce was amazing! As I don’t eat halal, I was restricted to certain dishes as the Chicken & Lamb were halal so a bit disappointed that I couldn’t try the wings and lamb dishes. Our bill came to just over £63 for 4 adults and 2 children. Would we go back? Oh yes and I hope they could also serve non-halal chicken and lamb so I can try the other dishes!

Since I first visited gringos last year, something has changed with the food and not particularly in a good way. Last year the ribs and fajitas were seemingly cooked differently and the portion sizes were bigger. But no they taste different and the sizes seem to have decreased. But still worthy of going. This wouldn't stop me from getting the ribs from here again!

Food was fabulous! Best ribs my husband has ever had! The manager was a brilliant young man who couldn't do enough for you! He also made excellent cocktails! Made my mum and I's a really fab mother's day! Well done!

Don't just rock up expecting a table. Despite being less than half full we were turned away. Only one waitress on. This was midweek. Felt sorry for her, not her fault at all. But poor management.

Great food, lively atmosphere. Can feel a little cramped and noisy but it was busy. Awesome staff. Portion sizes are huge! 2nd update - still great food :)

Our first table for 2 made me feel like I was in the middle of a roundabout. Quick change then the delicious food appeared. Generous helpings at a fair price. Staff missed out on 2 beers I ordered that never arrived. Mind you, it was really busy. Always pre-book as all the walk-ins were turned away. Of course I'm going back, who wouldn't.

It's been a while since I'd been but I'm glad I did and I'll defo return much sooner now. There's a few changes and definitely for the better. 20% off Mon to Fri 4.30-6.30. Now, I can't remember if I heard Mexican music playing.. if it was its a nice touch n feel, if it wasn't then I should layoff the JD's n coke!🙈 11/10 from me and my friend. Definitely recommend 👌🏾

It was my favourite restaurant in Huddersfield. But recently I had really bad service here. Ordered meat tray for share and swine fries as starter. Been told runs out of ribs and can be swap to steak. After waitress, there was chef came to explain why ribs runs out. Also been asked how I like for the steak. Until now, everything was all good. Then, dramatic scenes came to us. 1.Tray been served after about 20mins, yes, there’s not starter came at first, it was came about 15 mins later of the tray. 2. Two plain plates been given as tray was big for sharing. But one of those plates was got oblivious oil dirt on the surface, I asked waitress to change and she didn’t say anything. I am not abusing but in principle, here may have a sorry or explain? 3. Waitresses knew our tray was replaced rib by steak but not bringing steak knives and wish us enjoy the steak, moreover, there was no sauce and no salt no pepper even salt pepper not shown on table. And when I ask for knives, waitress ask me back why? There is general cutlery in table basket. What a brilliant respond. 4. I do regularly visit this restaurant as I know there was different sauces or flavours on wings or chicken. They do changes menu, which is no matter. But waiter did not mention to us for sauce and choice also bringing wrong food to us. BBQ chicken in tray was coated by redhot sauce. With those above issues, we only finished swine fries and fries in tray. Leaves meat remains like when it just on table. The owner’s boy, stand behind the bar. When I feedback those issues to him and asking solutions, he was admitting this mistake but trying to ask me to understand unwell trained staff. At the end, fully charged bill and no any sorry or whatever. For me. Even I was like here, I will never visit again. This 2 star 1 is for swine fries, 1 is for previous good memories.

Took my wife there for her valentines and where should I start , I ask for well done stake I got it with blood all over , the food was under cook , the dessert the dough was not cooked, the food was thrown on the table like you you were a dog , the bill came to £63 and for what we got I would never go back or recommend to anyone.. I think one star is too much don’t think it deserves 1 .. big mistake going there 🙈…

Walked in on a whim on a Saturday night, luckily they had a table for 2 to spare. We ordered a cocktail and the halloumi nachos to share. The nachos were absolutely incredible perfect combo of hot, crunchy tortilla chips with flavourful salsa and melty cheese, spicy and delicious and absolutely huge portion too! My partner had ribs and I ordered the king prawn quesadilla. All the food was so delicious, hot flavourful perfection. I've been recommending this place to anyone who'll listen since our visit.

Lovely place with great staff. Spent a weekend in Huddersfield and ended up eating in here twice.

We arrived over half an hour early, we were accommodated and looked after despite them being incredibly busy. Had some fantastic nachos, but were advised to go for the regular size if we were planning to have mains. How right they were! Then had the meat feast burrito which was an insane size but tasted phenomenal. A massive shout out to Lucy for amazing service.

Oh my goodness… went here last week whilst visiting the area and the food was absolutely phenomenal!! I’m hungry again just writing this review! I had the chicken nachos to start, they were amazing! We all had some kind of nachos. Didn’t get a photo of my enchiladas as I ate them too quickly. One of my colleagues got the burrito (see photo) … honestly this was just incredible! Would highly recommend.

Went for my birthday. Great food and service. Portion size were massive, had to take some home. A great cherry margarita as well. Garcia was our server, very friendly guy with plenty of knowledge about the food . Will definitely go again in future.👍

Highly recommended! These guys really looked after us and added to our experience of great food and cocktails. The chicken wings are amazing. We will be returning with more friends next time, maybe for a special occasion.

The food is amazing and the portions are huge. The atmosphere is brilliant and the staff very kind and friendly the restaurant decor is fantastic you feel like your in an authentic Mexican restaurant myself my wife and stepdaughter loved the evening and will definitely be going back again.

Absolutely the best Mexican by a Latin mile. Amazing service. Even though we didn’t have prior booking, they accommodated us and as soon as they had a better seating, they themselves moved us, without even asking. The food was gorgeous and the portions are so generous that we couldn’t finish and they, very politely, suggested to pack and take it home. Absolutely spot on

Came for a mates birthday as a big group a few weeks back. The staff were really good with us and super friendly. Ordered the hallumi fajitas they were brilliant. The portions sizes are massive even in the stater section so bare that in mind but it makes it great value for money. Great selection of drinks too.

Food was excellent. One minor thing that was noticeable, was that the tables were rather sticky. As if the tables varnish was perished?

First time here and me and my partner loved it! It was empty when we walked in (we did go around 1pm) so was abit skeptical but the food was absolutely delicious!!!. Loads on the menu to choose from. I got the Texan chicken burger and boy oh boy it wasn't a disappointment! Chicken was a proper decent size.. plenty of BBQ sauce on it too.. I left feeling full to the brim when sometimes I can eat out places and still leave hungry!. My mouth is literally dribbling writing this thinking about it 😂... Will definitely be back!. Loved the mexican music touch aswel!

All 3 of us Had the half chicken was disappointing it was super pink and told staff and she said that’s they way it’s supposed to be and was cooked, it put me off my food the staff were not attentive just messing about and flirting with each other it was hard to get their attention when asking for things, waited 15 minutes for a coke and had to go ask for it then ten minutes later someone brings one even though we had already got it and resulted in us all feeling unwell after eating won’t be going back

Food is lovely and very generous...! The service is friendly but it did take a while for food to arrive, would have been 5 stars if not for the waiting. I thought I'd have enough with 1.5 hours in the car park, but I had to go and move the car as we hadn't finished due to the wait, there were a few people in but it wasn't overly busy. Will absolutely return and be prepared for a relaxed feel instead of being rushed 😊😊

Oh my , our family went this evening to celebrate our granddaughter 18 th birthday , everything was perfect , food , atmosphere, and what a fantastic bunch of fellas looking after us . I would highly recommend a visit , what a night , thankyou guys

Food was mostly enjoyable and i would have loved to give a good review. However, a few little mistakes were made which dampened our daughters birthday meal, such as; wrong drink given, tacos missed from meal and poor quality guacamole (which cost £2.80!). Unfortunately, the service was what has resulted in such a poor review. I saw one waiting rearranging his private parts and then provide table service! When asked if i enjoyed the meal, I said thank you but I explained there were a few niggles with the meal, the waitress did not seem interested and only offered an insincere apology. Unfortunately, due to this lack of care I can honestly say I won't be returning. Such a shame.

Do NOT snack beforehand ! Huge portion sizes and big-hit flavours. Bustling and casual atmosphere, but it's small size means that service is quick. High recommended.

The food was just okay, with giant portion sizes used to make up for it, I feel. We were a large party and the waitress was physically sighing as she went round getting our orders - we weren't a difficult table either, so I don't understand why we were treat like that. Came to pay and it was a little disorganised. Not sure if we'll try again 😬

Amazing food, the best ribs ive had anywhere!!! Their smokehouse BBQ meat is delicious and just melts in your mouth. Service was really great and incredibly attentive, music got a bit loud for me but thats personal opinion and takes absolutely nothing away from food or experience. Its great guys!!!

Very disappointed. Service was slow, our table wasn't ready when we arrived and 14 of us had to wait in the cramped area by the door, not a great start, Once the table was ready the seating arrangement was cramped, to say the least. Eventually, our order was taken and a the few starters ordered arrived. We then waited and waited for the table to be cleared... In the end I had to ask someone as all the staff seemed to have stopped working and were messing about and drinking shots! The mains eventually arrived, well everyones except mine, which arrived 10 minutes after everyone else's. The chef said he was sorry about the wait, but they had had a busy evening. I must point out, we were the last party to be seated and the other large table had their mains when we got the starters. Again it took an age for the table to be cleared and at this point all other diners had left. One female member of staff was rearranging the larger tables into 2's. She was loudly banging the chairs.... hinting we should leave?! The evening, for me, was spoiled by the lazy and childish behaviour of the majority of the staff. I think we should have been asked to pre order our food, which we have in the past. The food was great, but I'll not be in a rush to go back. Staff training needed!

The decor is amazing! The service, even better. All the guys where extremely polite and friendly. The food was delicious, all cooked perfectly and flavoured just right. The portion size is spot on, we left feeling extremely full and satisfied. You get what you pay for, and you can't say that for most places! Would recommend to anyone 👍🏼

Really nice evening meal with colleagues. Loved the atmosphere and staff were attentive and friendly. Food was fabulous. A cut above normal Mexican themed bars / restaurants. Sharing platter beat us in end... Great if you and a friend are famished.
