Grill Room at The Royal Oak Hotel in Conwy

Lovely outdoor area and very busy on a Sunday in December. Had a Christmas market and a brass band playing Christmas carols. Food looks great and the pizzas look delicious. I would say that the food is definitely worth the money. Inside the hotel is also lovely but I would recommend booking in advance for a Sunday roast. The village surrounding the hotel is very picturesque and has some beautiful walks as well.

Very nice lunch off the set lunch menu. The roast beef was very tender and not over cooked. Accompanying vegetables were nice too. Service was good (top marks to the serving staff) and despite being 5 mins early were allowed to sit down and offered a nice large window table too. I expected a pokey table for two but no, this one was excellent. A good wine list and a nice tasty French Pinot Noir to go with the beef. We will definitely go again and would quite readily recommend. PS - it had just been trimmed up for Christmas - which was nice.

Lovely for morning coffee and welsh cakes

The food was exceptional (I reccomend the Welsh roast lamb) the service was speedy and friendly. The vibe was great. Only downside was the wine was not very good value for money- spent £30 on a bottle of wine and left half of it because it just wasnt tasty. I would return and get my meal with a beer.

Just a shame the wine was an 8 quid bottle for 30 quid. Would have been nice to drink better wine with such nice food.

A lovely experience from reception to being sat in the restaurant as the grill house was full. Service was friendly and professional food was not too long and when it came it was plentifull and was expertly cooked. Very tasty and would visit again

Visited the Grill earlier today,have to say that the food was exceptional. We had the Thai green curry,mixed grill,salmon and the steak pie followed by ice cream and the strawberry cheesecake. We all loved the food which was absolutely delicious,fresh ingredients and piping hot. Also have to mention the waitress who served our table,what a lovely professional member of staff,a real credit to the place. Not sure how I’ve not been to this place previously living in North Wales and having been to the town so often. Definitely recommend this restaurant.

I was here eating on my own as I was away on business but it would have been perfect as a romantic meal for two. Food was delicious. Great cosy ambience on a cold wet night.

Good food. We went for lunch and there was a great value 2 course menu with plenty of options for starters. The main is a choice of roasted meats with a well cooked and good portion of very nice food served. Would definitely go again.

Not great. First, as we arrived, we were ignored and left standing at the entrance for several minutes as staff walked past us. Then, they got our drinks order wrong. When the food arrived, the soup (tomato and red pepper) was nice, but then, two of us had ordered the roast beef meal. Maybe it had been left since the previous Sunday (it was Friday) and reheated, that's the only explanation I can think of. The beef was overcooked and tasteless. Mine looked as if it had been under a heating lamp for too long as the top slice was dry and burned. The gravy was lacking in flavour. The roast potatoes... Well, I'm not sure how they'd made those, but they were tough and almost inedible. There was no Yorkshire pudding as the menu had promised, but we didn't complain as we weren't sure we wanted more of that quality of food. The vegetables were fine, but not much of them. If you think of Toby or Wetherspoons, that'd be Michelin-star compared to this. Someone else had gammon and chips. The gammon was salty and tough. But, the desserts were fine - they must have bought those in.

The portions were not of the expected size and we went on a Sunday and expected an actual Sunday roast. Further, we could not order from the normal menu.

Beautiful lamb dinner. OMG amazing.

We were recommended to check out this place after a long day in Snowdonia. Unfortunately it didn’t deliver. The cottage pie came with blanched veggies and tasteless mash. The pie was the saddest I ever had in UK! The Caesar salad with salmon looked & tasted as if it was thrown together by a home cook. The grilled fish had no crisp skin but pale unpleasant looking skin. The welsh burger was ok.. yes the chef really need to work on those chips. Maybe we didn’t have the usual chef that evening. Service wise was much to be desired too. No different from other reviews. Nonetheless for the premium price we paid, this was below average.

Awful food. There was very little Thai tasting about the Thai curry, chicken and onions in gloop. Kids ‘pork’ sausages were the nondescript pap you’d get from a greasy spoon. Disappointing as the price tags are premium.

First visit to this restaurant and the fact that I gave it 5 stars reflects my opinion on the particular food I chose and the standard of service experienced. I was very satisfied with my visit.

Visited on Friday 9th august, Really impressed with the grill room, lovely place, lovely staff, excellent food and I would definitely go again, But…. How can you charge £8-50 for the tiniest slither of cheesecake I have ever seen, I’m still shocked at how small it was!

Excellent ribeye steak. Would have preferred more and different veg. It came with one mushroom and a small piece of corn on cob. Expensive for what it was.

Raw hash brown served in breakfast! Waitress showed no attention to customer comment and did nothing about the situation in order to rectify it

Had 2 amazing starters, husband had steak, and a desert each, empty plates speak for themselves. We were served by a lady who despite being very busy was so friendly.

Really enjoyed our meal , Welsh burger and a Super salad with halloumi. Greeted nicely when we walked in and looked after very well . Relaxed atmosphere this afternoon. Recommended.

Wanted to give 0 for service. We could see the staff approaching other table politely asking if they need anything while we were left without attending. They service people differently:(

It was 7:30 PM when I arrived at the restaurant. The tables were half empty, indicating that the restaurant wasn’t full. However, the staff informed me that it wasn’t possible to have dinner because they were fully booked. This was a Tuesday night in late May. After requesting to speak with the manager, they decided to accommodate me at a table. Despite being surrounded by empty tables, My intention to have dinner here was simply to order a Welsh lamb dish, which I had yet to try. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a total disappointment. The meat was overcooked and dry; I was never asked how I wanted it cooked. In fact, I could find better lamb at any supermarket chain. AVOID !!

Delicious food, tasty! The atmosphere is very pleasant. I ate a dessert of pistachios cake and black olive ice cream, that is so different and amazing that I’m going to remember for ever.

Quality food with a good range of dishes on the menu to choose from. We’re able to accommodate extras, and additional items to order.

This is a lovely hotel & the staff are really very kind & helpfull. The fish was perfectly cooked & the batter nice & crispy but chef please work on your chips ok mate 😉. It was a very warm day on my visit & the heat was amplified by the perspex roof so I skipped having a sweet & retired to the bar for a cold pint instead lol but if in the area I recommend a visit to the Royal Oak 🙂

So the whole place was great! I had a grill room burger and wasn't expecting it to be spicy 😅 but it still tasted good. Everyone there was nice and the prices were good!

Good portion of the steak, also came with sides. I did not try the desserts here but would love to come back and try them one day. The waiters were very friendly and nice. There is paid parking opposite the hotel, however if you do eat at Royal Oak, they can deduct the cost of the parking for you.

Saved this place until last night of our stay, glad we did , excellent place, very friendly helpful staff make you feel relaxed and comfortable, the main course was great and got to say probably the best home made cottage pie Ive had, then came the dessert that was olive oil and pistachio cake with black olive and goat cheese ice cream, sounds wrong but BUT HELL WAS THAT GOOD , well worth a visit and will be returning, MARI was are waitress and what a legend

Myself and a friend recently decided on this place to meet for a coffee and lunch. On arrival staff greeted and offered to attend the table. The atmosphere was lovely and felt very posh which was nice. Drinks and service was quick and food was great. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Decor was lovely. My only little observation was . Food under chairs. As you walk in left side near reception? I believe? Big chair I could see food on floor under the chair. Otherwise everything was brilliant and facilities were lovely toilets were upstairs. Overall I will definitely be back

Generous portions and wonderful ambience for a dinner in Betws-y-Coed. We celebrated an anniversary dinner here and it did not disappoint! Elevated pub grub and great wine options for a cosy night in.

Took my daughter here for an evening meal last weekend. We both ordered the slow cooked pork belly and it was perfection! The wholegrain mustard mash that came with it was amazing also. The staff were brilliant and very helpful, especially with telling my fussy daughter every flavour of gin they had in stock. 😂. Beautiful place to go and have now got to travel back with my partner as she became very jealous when she realised what she missed out on!

Really nice atmosphere and staff were great. According to my receipt we were served by Katie P, she was very friendly and took the time to chat to us about our stay. Food was nice albeit steak was slightly over done but overall would recommend as seems like one of the nicer places in the village.

Lovely hotel in the pretty village of betws y coed. Everyone enjoyed the food and the prices were what we would expect for the area. Paid for parking and the hotel reimbursed us off the bill.

Gorgeous Restaurant. Visiting the area on holiday and wanted to have a nice meal out as a couple. Absolutely loved our meal here. Food was gorgeous, service was amazing and the music playing was wonderful. If you're here on holiday this is the restaurant to go to!!!

Bland, over-cooked food. Let the waitress know about this to which she laughed and said ‘well that’s how it comes’. No effort to resolve the issue. Wouldn’t recommend, definitely won’t be back

After reading good reviews was excited to book here but was very disappointed 😞 £60 for mixed grill and chicken fajitas first of the mix grill was all charoaled no flavour and bland like chewing an old leather boot. Asked for blue and got medium. Chicken fajitas had that much cajun spice so over powered couldn't taste anything else. Service wasn't great very slow and was empty only 3 tables which included us. Need to hirer some younger generation staff also long wait for food but I'm guessing that was so they could burn all the flavour off.

Had the mixed grill at £30 All tasted the same, chargrilled burnt horrible meal, won't be returning

I've visited a number.ber of times and it never disappoints! The beef roast was excellent. 2 adults and a child (2 courses) with multiple drinks was £65 ... Well worth the money. Shall be back again soon. Extremely clean and tidy even when busy.

So glad I found this place, a nice break from eating at the stables. The food here was amazing, recommend the pork belly! Beautifully presented and tasted great, decent range of food on offer and well priced. Great staff, friendly. Nothing too much trouble, lovely little restaurant and nice booths for larger groups. Decorated beautifully too for Christmas. Definitely recommend this place and looking forward to returning in the future.

The royal oak is a wonderful place to eat, wonderful friendly staff, fantastic food in a very beautiful location.

Had an excellent meal here in their 'Grill' restaurant. You can pre-book a table here. There is an excellent range of really nice meals on offer and service was friendly and prompt.

Good food at reasonable prices and pleasant staff

Me and my partner dined here Saturday 2nd December as we came up to say for the night to celebrate our anniversary. The food was incredible, not a compliment I give out very often, I had the Prawn Tikka starter as I can’t eat large portions and the flavour balance in the tikka sauce was impeccable, perfect blend of sweet, savoury and spice and the prawns were cooked beautifully (not an easy feat). My partner had the Welsh lamp rump and polished off the plate, the lamb was tender and wonderfully cooked. The service we received was beyond what I expected, Paige was attentive, accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. With both myself and my partner previously working in the hospitality industry to find service and food at this level is a rarity outside of rosette and Michelin grade. Highly commended, will be back.

Great venue and lovely staff. You need to book as they are short staffed and if you go in without they might not be able to accommodate you.

Staff and venue really lovely. Staff cannot do enough for you and the dinning area has many seating options. Sadly, the food is just ok and feels a big basic. Seasoning is barely used but that could be a considered decision to allow people to season to taste themselves. This place is what I'd guess to be a flagship place in Betws y Coed and has great facilities, if the food was elevated it could be packed out every night. We are there 3 times in the week we were there but more due to necessity than on previous experience. I'd still come back of course

So , we ate here because we come to BYC alot & have only ever had a drink in here so decided to go for our anniversary & my partners birthday too,, we were shown to our table I ordered a soda (large one) & a bottle of red wine,, it came then I drank the 'soda' it was lemonade !! I'm allergic to aspartame & penelalanine I knew immediately what it was,,, I get a racing heart & this mix up upset me , I remained calm however I was upset by this hugely as I've avoided a reaction for years & she had re-read it back to me so I thought she had this right,, then we ordered our meal the starter came it was OK then our main arrived I specifically asked for no sauces on my partners salt & pepper burger it was smothered in sauce & salad & I said just the chicken & the cheeses & bacon nothing else ! I had ordered the fajitas they came with ice cold red peppers in a separate dish ? How vile freezing red pepper for me yo put on warm fajitas, strange it diddnt come with fries either I had to order these separately they never made it to the table she'd forgotten I cancelled them it just wasn't worth the wait,,, we were asked if everything was OK.... no was my answer it was a disaster from start to end, we got chatting to the lad in the table next to us, he was working away he'd waited half a hour for a pint of beer, he aske us for our salt & pepper saying if he asked the waitress he'd be there till bloody next Monday! You get the gist, regarding my allergies I have 'ventricular ectopics ' triggered by aspartame it was present in the lemonade I was given however I didn't intake enough to trigger this ...it could of thou ! Then after complaining they took £3 off the bill ! £3 for the toppings on his burger ,, it cost £71.00 still, I was thoroughly deflated, fed up , annoyed ! It was after all my partners birthday & our anniversary we tried to not let it dictate the events of our evening,, however it felt rubbish so here we are !!

Lovely lunch time meal. Catered well enough for gluten free. Service was lovely and attentive. had an amazing lamb steak and it was well presented and tasty. Would definitely come back when next driving round snowdonia.

Ordered Welsh Lamb, Chicken Breast, Spring Rolls and Cottage Pie between 4 of us. It was lovely! The food was so fresh and delicious, and the service was excellent, too. Would highly recommend for a relaxing and tasteful dinner.

Service was fine. Food quality was poor. Mild temp, clearly not fresh "dirty" chips which had to be changed. Once changed the quality was not much better. Burgers were ok, bit bland, chicken burger portions were poor. 3 small pieces. Ate because we were quite hungry being late in the night. Waiting around 40mins for food which I understand if busy. Would not eat here again

I dined here with my partner while on a short stay vacation; and was so impressed, we went back the following night. My partner loves burgers, and he had the chicken , while I had the Welsh, and both of us were happy, lots of little ‘mmmm’ noises and silence at the table, we enjoyed the food that much. The service was impeccable, and we were accommodated both nights without booking, but it does get very busy, and I would recommend booking instead. The restaurant gives the last opportunity for dining at 8:30pm ,like many places in picturesque villages, so plan accordingly, as we missed out the first night we stayed. Atmosphere is lovely, and the space between the seating areas of each table, still allows for conversation, without the next table overhearing everything , or yourself hearing them, which is always a bonus in such popular and busy places. Beautiful decor throughout, and it’s great to see the meat going through the 28 day aging process in the cabinet , before it goes to the butchers for the roasts ( I definitely want to return and try this). Perfect experience

Beautiful location everyone is so friendly, hotel lovely. Food was to die for the Welsh lamb was the best I've had in a long time, had it twice during my stay.

We scored it 23/40. Hot chocolate was not good, but scones were.

We stopped for a late lunch, beer garden, finally I found a good Chef and food to remember! The beef rib was FABOLOUS 😋 Thank
