You can't go wrong with a marston pub food, service and atmosphere excellent. How happy to know that the app here is now up and running. This is always something I use and the copper beach longwater has had this service for quite a while. So now at greenstone it's advertised to use the app. I was so impressed, got the order going on my phone. Drinks selected. Sandwiches, sandwiches where do I find sandwiches. The heading is under jacket potatoes and sandwiches. Looking looking, nothing. I looked through each and every heading and nothing. So couldn't use the app. So disappointed. My friend had to go to the bar and order.

MORE AT Google

My wife and I booked for a meal at 4pm as we had to be somewhere else for 6pm and we have always had a good experience here with food and staff, even defended the restaurant to people who spoke badly of their food and staff. We arrived a few minutes before our booked time and were politely greeted and shown to our reserved table. Sitting at the table next to us was a young man on his own. Within a couple of minutes my wife and I kept getting a horrible unwashed stale smell and it was coming from the man on the table next to us, we quietly asked the manager if we could be moved to another table as sitting eating with this smell around us was going to be sickly. The manager went along with our request and without causing any disruption, she said that we had been given the wrong table and would we mind moving, which we thought was very diplomatic of her. We were moved to another table and thought nothing more of it, until we saw the young man get up from where he was sitting and head off into the staff area behind the bar. This concerned us both as it could mean he is kitchen staff, so we asked the manager if the man we were moved away from was staff and she said no and that they get people come in wanting to watch sport on the tv but they don't put sport here, but when she realised that it was possible he was seen going through the staff doors the manager suddenly changed what she had told us that he is a cleaner out the back, we expressed our concern that he was in fact kitchen staff and the manager assured us that he wasn't and mentioned another staff member who was the chef. Feeling a little uneasy, but assured by the manager, we waited for our starters to come out. The starters were brought to our table by a very polite young lady and we enjoyed our starters, although we did both notice that when we had got to the bottom of the metal dishes that our food was in, they both had the ceramic coating flaking off and had rusty metal showing where the coating once was. We didn't mention this as we just wanted to eat our meals and leave. Our main courses were then brought to us by a chef, which has never happened before as there were serving staff wandering around. I took this to be the evidence of the manager telling us that the man we were moved away from wasn't the chef and so we relaxed and enjoyed our main courses. Before leaving, both myself and my wife needed to use the bathroom and as I walked passed the carvery counter, the doors to the kitchen were open and to my horror, I saw the man we were assured was just a cleaner in a full chefs outfit carrying food, the one thing we wanted to be assured of that he wasn't dealing with ours or any else's food. So to summarise, we were lied too and they are allowing people to work in their kitchen who clearly has a problem with hygiene. The man in question, although was wearing a chefs has to cover his hair, he had quite a large scruffy beard which I was always under the impression should also be covered but wasn't. This situation is so disappointing as i have already said, we have always defended this restaurant, especially when this new manager took over, as she really turned the place around, but it seems now things have slipped. With this, we have decided to never eat here again and use other local restaurants.

We have just arrived home from Greenstones Dereham Norfolk. We haven't been for a carvery there since 2019. We have to admit, the young lady who served and looked after us, is a gem, plus the food was brilliant, the chef was so helpful and cheerful. I like my food hot, but having such a plateful, it cooled fairly quickly. On the young lady checking if everything was ok for us, I mentioned my meal had cooled quite a bit. Then young lady soon reheated it, and the meal was perfect right to the end. And the price was more than fair. We are so impressed, we are booking our 2025 Christmas day dinner.there. This carvery we had today, was one of tastiest the best we have had for many years. Well done Greenstones management, for having staff that have been dragged properly, with manners thoughtfulness, and not a hint of infantilism. Now we can recommend Dereham Greenstones, to all our family and friends. Andy and Jenny.

I met with my Family today for lunch My oldest son and his Partner ordered baguettes and I ordered a jacket potato with cheese and beans Other tables that arrived after us were being served so after 45 minutes we asked where our food was , no communication or apologies were offered before this as staff passed our table with food for other tables. We were told the food would be 5 minutes Some 15 minutes later I had to leave for an appointment and some ten minutes after that my Son had to ask for a refund as there was still no communication or sign of any food . No defence was offered by the man at the till and I ask would ask this chain to look inward at how it treats its customers and try to realise How bad does their organisation have to get for the resultant failures to take over an hour and 20 mins to still fail to make two sandwiches and a jacket potato !!! Worst of all was the disregard for customers And lack of basic service or communication. Never Again .!!

This was our second carvery visit but we will definitely not be back again. Food was pretty much cold. The coldest carvery we've ever experienced in fact. The "chef" could only carve meat that was almost an inch thick.Yorkshires didn't look like Yorkshires, just squished pieces of batter. There were insufficient staff on duty. We had to wait probably 15 minutes at the bar before bring served and had to wait at the carvery too. Nobody asked us how our meals were and had they done so then they would have been told with both barrels! We could not order from our table as this facility was unavailable at this restaurant for some reason. The only good thing is that they are dog friendly and even with a dog you can sit in the middle of the restaurant and not be shoved into a corner next to a pool table, as is the case in some other establishments.

after a tough year we decided to book into greenstones for Christmas dinner to take the pressure off what was going to be a hard day after just having lost a close relative, we arrived at our booking time and were seated after a small wait all good at that point told someone will be along to take our drinks order, 15 minutes later they arrived the starters then arrived after another 40mins of waiting, main was carvery so that wasn’t so bad found the main to be Luke warm and the roast potatoes burnt and over done, then came the wait for the desserts after another 45 minutes and with bored and fed up kids the dessert arrived but not our dessert someone else’s at this point we were completely fed up so decided to leave, came to pay the bill at £65 a head plus drinks asked to speak to a manager about the disappointing service and that we had no desserts offered to knock the desserts off at £6 each off a £65 a head meal which didn’t seem reasonable, met with a manager who took the attitude that we’d ate the starter and the main so all was good was not willing to listen to the complaint of poor service eventually agreed a reasonable figure to pay. Whilst I appreciate the effort of the staff to work Christmas Day and the fact you were busy why book people in if you cannot provide a timely meal and service.

Breakfast with Santa at Dereham greenstone. Had already pre-booked but had to wait 45 minutes to order our food. This is because there was only 1 lady on the bar who was doing food and drink orders. She said she had not been allowed any more staff with her. Also, at no point were we told that the only food, for adults and children was a full English breakfast. Not many children eat a fry up. Most people in the queue we spoke to thought there would be pancakes or something for the kids. The food did come in good time however and tasted nice. For something all pre-planned it was very poorly organised and slow. I wouldn’t come back again or recommend based on this experience. Oh also, Santa was very good, made up for the chaos of ordering and waiting.

We never actually got there! We booked a table online for 5.30pm on Christmas Eve. As we were running late, I called to see if there was any chance of changing the booking to 6pm. The lady who answered the phone told me in a very unfriendly tone that the kitchen would be closing at 6pm and because we’d booked for 5.30pm we would have to order immediately when we arrived anyway. She told me in no uncertain terms that “they were preparing for Christmas.” And sounded very put out that we had booked a table and were expecting to eat on Christmas Eve. I pointed out that at no time had we been informed that the kitchen closed at 6pm and that the confirmation email I’d received clearly stated that we had a table booking for 5.30 to 7pm. Plenty of time to order a main course and dessert I had thought but obviously not. I was told the website was nothing to do with them. It was sorted out by their Head Office and it was up to each individual pub to decide what time they would close to prepare for Christmas Day bookings. They had decided that they would close at 6. This was supposed to be a family meal with my sister to start off the Christmas celebrations but we ended up with a takeaway pizza instead. It was plainly obvious that they didn’t really want any bookings for food in the evening on Christmas Eve so I’m not sure why the facility was there to book online? Maybe Head Office and Greenstone need to communicate a bit more about what services they’re actually providing on Christmas Eve. I’m just glad we phoned before we turned up and that we weren’t celebrating a birthday or special occasion.

We ate here as a early dinner before visiting the Polar Express nearby, 2 of our party ordered child's meals, and the rest of us opted for the carvery, nice choice of meats with Gammon, Beef and Turkey which were cooked very nicely, the veg was a pleasant selection although not very warm. I was however disappointed to be stood waiting at the carvery for just shy of 10 minutes before being served, normally this wouldnt really bother me, until we were told rather rudely that "we need your table!" As soon as we had finished. It was a shame as it spoilt the entire meal for us! Food was nice, shame about the CS!

We were a group of 11 that had pre booked our meal choices 3 weeks in advance. 3 of us didn’t get a starter and were told the manager had gone home with the pre-order lust so they couldn’t double check that we had actually ordered 10, however our organiser verified his end that we had indeed ordered that many. We were then informed they had run out of mushrooms so how would we of gotten them anyway. As everyone else had finished we decided to forgo the starters snd head for the cavery. It was cold, the stuffing was rock hard, the veg dried up and when he topped up with allegedly hot dishes to replenish they were also cold. The meat was dried up, we called the manager over who told the disinterested, scruffy looking chef to replace everything. When we were told it was ready we had to ask for a fresh piece of Turkey and upon checking some of the veg it was still tepid. The stuffing still rock hard. One of our party never ate at all, I ate but was totally dissatisfied and others just loaded their fish with gravy as it was the only hot thing available. Fifteen minutes later one of the party went to get more gravy at 8.30pm and it had been removed as had everything else. I went to pay for my one course but was told they don’t do that and I had to pay for 2 so I was offered my dessert to take away-banoffee pie. To say that this was the absolute worst food and eating out experience is an understatement. The young girl working there was lovely and initially the manager tried to rectify things but that didn’t continue when we still weren’t happy. It wasn’t busy in there and I can see why, I will never eat in there again and not recommend it to anyone. Feel financially cheated as had £20 for. Cold cavery and the strangest banoffee dessert as it was a chocolate torte.

We attended the breakfast with Santa event. Can’t fault Santa, he was fabulous. He looked brilliant and he was attentive, making sure to spend time with all the children and have photos taken. We had to wait 45 minutes for breakfast, which was difficult with an active two year old, because they don’t want to sit still for 45 minutes, we did bring distractions, but our two year old can’t sit still for that long. My first and probably last visit to this establishment. As we shop in the nearby Aldi most Fridays, we have frequently been tempted to try the pub, but I can honestly say that our experience fell a long way short of what I consider acceptable, even at the price point offered. Our starters were served dripping in cooking oil and we both had a carvery as our main meal. We had to ask for cutlery when the starters were served as there wasn’t any on the table and I found my own after I’d been served my carvery. The meats on offer were largely dried out and not appetising and the vegetables were cold. At least there was plenty of gravy! Perhaps it would have been better to not have the carvery as an option on a Saturday evening, if it isn’t sufficiently popular to be topped up and kept fresh. We didn’t bother with a dessert. Overall, a very disappointing experience.

Lovely welcome, nice environment, good service by friendly staff. The food (carvery) looked good quality and was well cooked but the whole experience was let down because EVERY SINGLE ELEMENT of the Sunday roast was cold. All of the equipment appeared to be appropriate but it seems that the lack of attention to using it properly (lids on veg bowls, water in bain maries, heat lamps being utilised correctly) meant that nothing was being kept at an appropriate or acceptable temperature. This is worrying not only from an eating experience perspective but also from a health perspective and needs to be addressed. I’m disappointed because this situation alone spoiled the experience for me.

I had a carvery, it was awful. The beef was overcooked And the choice of vegetables was very poor. There were sprouts which were okay roast potatoes which were chewy, parsnip with onions, carrots and cauliflower which looked like it had a cheesy crumb but was undercooked and possibly finished with a blowtorch. The best part of the meal was the gravy. The other people I was with had no complaints about their food - 1 burger and 1 scampi. I won’t be recommending the carvery to anyone. 2nd visit 27 November Despite my previous experience we returned today for lunch as we had a money off voucher. This visit was even worse than the last one, on arrival there was a notice on the door saying that the Calvary was not available today Which I didn’t mind as I didn’t want a carvery anyway. We had booked, but the person on the desk was unable to find the booking, we had to wait 30 minutes in a queue to place Our order and then 45 minutes for our food to arrive. My meal was Hunters chicken, which was so hard that I had to ask for a steak knife to cut it but I still could only eat alive little of it. The chips were good though. After my last complaint your email invited me to reach out to you. Unfortunately, I was unable to do this because you didn’t include an email address in your reply. It would be nice to have a chat and perhaps some compensation as I have now purchased 2 inedible meals.

The Yorkshire puddings were like paper no taste not particular edible, Not much veg on offer either. The chips on every meal was hard that I cracked a tooth, all chrildren didn’t eat the chips as they couldn’t. The portion sizes for the amount it costs were disgusting. Ordered double fries on one and that was what I would call a normal size portion. Staff wasn’t exactly helpful, hardly any kids menus had to find one myself, same as high chairs had to find and carry to the table and I have health conditions. All cutlery was just plonked on the table for myself to sort and hand out. Daughter wanted jacket potatoes but isn’t served after 3pm but is not stated on the menu so. Was not impressed with the visit wouldn’t book again went to Aldi for the desert as was that disappointed with the whole meal and service. Not worth almost a £100 it cost. Lovely to arrive and see nearly every table was taken. Immediate smiles from the staff, we had booked and gave the lady ( sorry can’t remember her name) our name and immediately shown our table. Menu has something for everyone, we didn’t choose the carvery for a change… our friends had the fish and chips which arrived before us and they looked so gorgeous we though we had made a mistake in our order , our came our order which was stale and ale pie and it was absolutely gorgeous… totally satisfied and have nothing to complain about at all and considering how busy they all were, it’s full credit to all staff

Starter was overcooked. Complained. Got a replacement which arrived just as burned along with main courses. We ordered sweet potato fries with our main that were also overcooked. We complained again and got replacement fries which were OK but given with a poor excuse that it was busy and the cook could not cope. The restaurant was half full and not what I would call busy. The best thing about the meal was the Pinot of which I had 3. I had to salvage something from the night

Booked a table here to celebrate a family birthday only to arrive a 4.45pm to no carvery and a very restricted menu! (Carvery was to blame) we ordered, had our starters. Starters were ok, We then had to move tables, no issue. The wait then begins, we’re clock watching and no one’s food is coming out (after numerous questions asking where food was). The table next to us asked for a refund to go get Chinese, GREAT IDEA! But then We were told our food was being plated up, only the kids food arrived, we had to ask where the rest of the meals were while watching other tables food come out then finally eat at 7pm.. 2 hours later! When food arrived most plates had food items missing or food overcooked etc. We asked where the missing items were and were told they had ran out, Not good. Alot of people having the same issues in there which made the atmosphere not to standard.. people who had bookings were turning up, to be told the kitchen was shut…..shambles! We expressed our disappointment to the waitress, we were told we could have a free dessert or a free drink! (Money off our bill would have been nice) We had two people who are type 2 diabetic with us alongside that we had two young children who were tired and hungry, who knows how long the desserts would take. The staff (what staff there was) were lovely, they gave us a bottle of wine and kept apologising, however this birthday meal had been ruined!! This is very poor management!!!! If I was you, go to McDonald’s across the road!!!!

We booked our table at 6:30 for 4 people so we could meet up with friends we hadn't seen for a long time. We arrived at Greenstones 8 minutes before our booking only to receive a telephone call canceling our booking. 8 MINUTES!! We couldn't find anywhere else to get a meal at such short notice so we had to go home. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!

After having a terrible experience from a pub in Dereham, we decided to pop in here for some food, service was good, food was okay but very small portions, not as good as a previous visit some four years ago...

We ordered 3 x carvery meals and 1 x steak & ale pie. We all enjoyed our meals which were very tasty and hot. The staff were very polite and welcoming. We chose our time slot just right (4:30pm) as it started to get busy as we were leaving (5:45pm).

What could be better on a cold foggy morning in Swaffham than a table next to the woodburner in the MarketX cafe/bar? Cosy, prompt service, perfect coffee and a delicious full English using local produce. A delight!

My mother and I arrived for lunch on Saturday. Firstly we were shown to a dirty table, rings from cups and salt or possibly sugar. As my mother has a walker and had taken her coat off and sat down I didn’t ask to be moved but cleaned the table myself with antibacterial wipes I always carry. We ordered drinks and food which you have to pay for upfront so no opportunity to refuse to pay. The drinks arrived, one of which was a bottle of water but no glass. I asked for a glass which the waiter came back with. The glass was dirty. I waited until the food arrived and asked for a clean glass. No apology was given for bringing me a dirty one. My mother had loaded fries at £11. Well I could see the crispy onions, crispy because they were those dried ones you buy in tubs in the supermarket, but no sign of any cheese. I started to eat my bacon, Brie and red onion chutney panini. Well I had bacon. I looked inside for the Brie. There was a sort of stain which was obviously the Brie. I’ve never managed to cut a slice of Brie that thin myself, I suspect they could see through it when they lifted it up. As for the chutney, I found a few soggy bits of tasteless brown stuff. I noticed my mother poking her chips about and asked her what she was doing, she said ‘looking for the cheese’. I asked if she’d found any and she said ‘not really’. She pushed the bowl away and said her legs were cold. We had been sat in front of the entrance and the draft was awful. I asked her if she wanted to go and she was out of her chair faster than I’ve seen someone of 88 move in a long time. All in all a most unpleasant lunch. £11 for a bowl of chips and dried onion, and £10.50 for a bacon roll. Very poor indeed.
