Great Wall Chinese Peking & Cantonese Cuisine in Forest of Dean

Spare ribs nothing more than a few knucles so many chucks of pineapple. Special fried rice hunt the chicken prawns pork all in all a very disappointing waste of money. That bad even the dog refused to eat it

Great food but beware, the guy taking your orders has no telephone manners and it can be off-putting.

More money, less food. We always enjoyed our takeaway from this outlet but noticed last time prices had been increased and portion size reduced and no complimentary prawn crackers. Not being put off as we all are facing the financial crises, we put in another order. Couldn’t believe it when it was even more expensive than the last time and the lemon chicken would just about. Have fed a small child. The Singapore fried rice had no flavour let alone any spice. The whole meal was just about Luke warm. We will not be given any more money to this establishment but trying one of their competitors.

We stayed the weekend in Deanwood Camping/caravan site. On the Saturday we decided to get a Chinese for some birthday celebrations. Had to drive 10mins to get to the Chinese as they don’t deliver however we all agreed it was the best Chinese we have ever tasted! Afraid to say it knocked spots of our local Chinese so pretty gutted to be leaving Lydney just for the Chinese. Would 100% recommend and will be returning next time in the area!

Absolutely fantastic, best chinese food I've ever had, now I don't generally like chinese food and usually always go for the same standard thing, but after a long day at work with travel and not wanting to cook, I thought I'd try here, I went for something completely different which appealed to me from the menu, as it was a tester we only ordered 1 portion including main meal, rice and prawn crackers. At home the portion size was so large we were able to split into two for me and the wife, a unexpected shared meal, the food was tasty well cooked. this has changed my view on chinese food and we will be back now we know we'll have a chinese night every month.

I have been to this Chinese multiple times previously and never had a bad experience. But this time was absolutely appalling! Ordered over £40 worth of food, only for it to all be put in the bin. Then when we tried to phone to complain no one answered. As you can see from the images they speak for themselves. Those are meant to be sticky ribs in sauce.. and they were smelly and look absolutely disgusting I wouldn’t even feed my dog those. The Special fried rice (which is my usual order) smelt gone off and was cold. And the chips were dryer than the Sahara desert and stone cold also. Really disappointing as this was my favourite Chinese takeaway. But Kunming will have to be my new favourite as I’ve never had an issue there.

I had the Chicken and Chinese Mushrooms, which was a lovely dish - it had a kick of spice, but not too much. Everything was so fresh, and the chicken from Great Wall is always so tender and high standard. The chips are great, £2 for a massive bag! Which would probably serve 2, at least. Ready in 10 minutes, hot, such a reasonable price. Can’t fault them. Thank you guys.

Ordered from Great Wall at 7:30pm, ready in 15 mins! Best chips I’ve had from a takeaway, the Chicken Curry was delicious and not too heavy or greasy. My brother is vegan and loved the Mushroom Chow Mein. Didn’t need to order two portions of chips, one bag was plenty, for only £2!! Normally feel rough after a takeaway, but feel absolutely fine. Fab service, we’ll defo be back, thanks so much guys x

I don’t usually like Chinese food however this was amazing. Excellent service and top quality food best Chinese in the area. Definitely recommend

Very traditional Chinese take away, doesn't have anything fancy such as seaweed, or tofu. But the dish we try are all full of taste, very old style chinese cooking, just reminded me the food we had in my younger year. Not many place does the chow mein dish as high standard as we got from here, normally they either be full of grease or have a strong burning smell. None of that in our meal. Also we try their curry and black bean dish, both are wonderful, I did order extra and I was hoping to have some for tomorrow, but we end up finished all. In short, if you looking fancy Chinese food then you better look elsewere as you won't find much from here, but if you looking for real traditional Chinese food which is full taste then you are in the right place. Love it.

OMG I have never see so many customer waiting in the Chinese take out before, they must be doing something right. I was there tonight as one I use normally was close for two weeks so had to find somewhere else to eat, service was ok, had to wait for 30min for my order. this had to be the best Chinese I have tasted, food are nice and pipping hot. The Satay Chicken is very different to what I had before, the one I had normally tend to be quite dry, but because this one is cover in some sort of batter, which make the chicken quite juicy. it kind of won me over, now it is my favour dish along with the Cantonese sweet and sour chicken. Will definitely use again.

We went on Wednesday, we were surprise it was quite busy, A great place to have exceptional Chinese food. the price is average but the value for money is great since you get a lot of food for the money. 20min wait was not too bad, all dishes are super fresh and full of flavor, we will be going back soon.

friendly staff, food cook perfectly, unlike other takeaway we have been to which seem to cover in lots of oil. this has to be the best in town, must try their salt and paper chicken, it is very different to what I used to, but this is far better.

Very pleased, lovely food we had a set menu lots to feed the whole family, great quality as usual, it was great we even got some free samosas which the kids loved!

Ok...so thanks for reading my review. I've tried quite a lot of Chinese take-aways in the Forest of Dean and I can honestly say this is the very best. The food is superbly cooked, authentic with very generous portions. As a family we have 2 vegetarians and 3 meat eaters, all were extremely happy with their choices (on several occasions). The food is cooked and served to a high standard, always piping hot and served using quality ingredients.Lastly very reasonably priced, as the portions are huge and rice etc. can be shared. Great front of house staff and a joy to visit.

Always friendly and helpful, really good choice on the menu. Chiefs specials are big portions. Flavour can vary

Recently we have tried Great Wall Takeaway and the food really is lovely.Not greasy and good value.The cashier is always polite and friendly.

Absolutely disgustingly rude to customers we ordered £35 of food 20 to 11 at night which was inedible they refused to do anything about it FOOD IS DISGUSTING and overcooked. Didn't even apologise would NEVER recommend disgraceful customer service.

This is the best ever Chinese take-away I have ever eaten from. I am from Manchester and even the Chinese quarter of restaurants can't compare to the Great Wall.

We have never used any other chinese accept this one. Food is amazing and cooked properly. There's a variety on the menu and is all worth the money. The man at the till is friendly! I highly recommend !

Fast and efficient takeaway service, food always piping hot, will change things on menu if asked. When you ring for takeaway they tell you a collection time and food is always ready. Food is above average and large portions, wont go anywhere else local for chinese takeaway

The Great Wall is undoubtedly the best Chinese takeaway in Lydney, all of their dishes are made to perfection & always piping hot! Tony is a great front man & always has a smile on his face! Great place defo worth a trip here!!
