Avoid like the plague! this was the worst meal I have ever had. The fried rice was stodgy, the chilli beef was like chewing on Rubber, the sauce was sickly sweet. All in all a meal that quickly found its way to the bin

Just had a takeaway from here and it was awful. Some of the food was over cooked and the chicken chow mien was chewy. Chips warmed up and greasy. Never again! When Mandy had it it was lovely. Not anymore

Nice modern interior very friendly staff but felt claustrophobic to be honest the food was average for the price paid iam sure this place is more successful as a takeaway and 10/10 for the effort would we go back ? Sadly not

I’m really not one to write reviews but after my last visit I had to write one. I’m gluten free and I’ve missed Chinese so much so thought I’d give this a go. It was brilliant!!! I could pretty much have anything on the menu and if not - it was adapted as it’s made fresh to order. I was in food heaven and had no adverse reactions. I had salt and pepper ribs, chilli beef (adapted), ginger and spring onion chicken and salt and pepper chips. Yum. So anyone who’s looking for a local gluten free Chinese - here’s the place to go!!! Can’t wait to go back

We went to test the Christmas set menu lastnight, it was as good as I have had anywhere, the person running it was really nice and helpful, I haven't been since the last person running left over a year ago , but I was disappointed with any of the set meal, really good value for money,, you also get plenty , so much we all took something home with us, I will definitely be going back, I would recommend everyone who hasn't been since many left to try it , you will not be disappointed,

having been visiting here ( pre covid) since I was a kiddiewinkle I booked a table for the missus and me, tonight. it's no longer the "typical " Chinese restaurant but more of a takeaway with seating for 16. any reservations on walking in ( you may not need a reservation tbh) vanished. the beer is ice cold. the starters hot and wonderful the chowmein was excellent . OK the menu may be a tad limited but why be a jack of all trades? whilst we may not bother eating in....it's now go to for take outs.

Called in for food and found new owners had taken over. Well all I can say we visited twice in 2 nights in a row. Our food was delicious, fresh and yummy. We can’t recommend them enough and we’ll certainly be coming back for more. We had wonton soup, curry and noodles dishes. Best Chinese around. Thanks and see you soon. Karen and Trevor x

Decided to try again after disappointing first visit. We could not believe the difference. Food was much improved. The chilli beef was excellent as were the prawns and the Singapore vermicelli was very good. We will definitely be back again.

We got a takeaway from Great Village. We ordered a range of dishes; crispy duck, salt and pepper spare ribs, roast pork fried rice, king prawns in chilli and garlic, sweet and sour chicken, shredded chill beef. Every dish was excellent. We will definitely be going back for more in the future.

Customer of previous owners for 25 years. Decided to give new owners a try. Starters were ok. Wonton dry but maybe our fault as we didn’t realise you ordered sauce separately, Mandy always provided as inclusive. Singapore vermicelli was always so good from Mandy, New owners definitely need a lesson from Simon in cooking that and the mushroom chow mien. Really hoping they improve the recepies to how they used to be. The beef king po was good. Also the king prawn we ordered as a starter was very good. May try again in the future.

Tried the restaurant for the first time since change over of ownership. Ordered king prawn chow mein and beef curry with fried rice; both of which were excellent. The beef curry was full of tender meat. We will definitely be back.

Always looking to try to support local businesses following the covid pandemic, I decided to support my local Chinese takeaway ordering the meal deal for 2 (B). Reviews on TA looked good and locals recommended the food as being soooo good. Sorry but no, it wasn’t good. In fact it was awful. Every dish was soooo salty and I’m not sure the protein (beef in the beef mushroom and the chicken in spicy chicken) wasn’t the “re-formed” stuff that you see in the supermarkets these days that I try to stay clear of. (Happy to be corrected by management [with proof🤔]). Sorry but cannot recommend the food and will def not be re-visiting.

Firstly the salt&pepper ribs are the best I’ve tasted, and I’ve tried a few over the years. I order from here because of the ribs but most other dishes are of a good quality. Eating in is possible and always staffed with pleasant, polite waitress/waiters. Always busy and people travel to pick up their take-away past many other establishments so this says something about the standard of food you get here.

We had a perfect chinese buffet meal including the duck pancakes. It’s ages since we had a Great Village crispy duck and it was just as good as ever. Excellent New Year’s Day meal.

To be fair been using this take away for years Due to the Covid-19 situation we ordered a take out For four people Wow !! so disappointed I know they were really buzy the Beef curry tasted of nothing and left a soap taste in our mouths the Barbecue Spare ribs had not a ounce of barbecue sauce, on them it was £37 so not cheap We threw most of it in the bin Let’s hope they redeem themselves when they open for full service.

First visit after recommendation.Friday night five fifteen, horrendous parking. Everybody using chippie next door.Disabled access a bit limited but owner arranged to move tables to allow better access for daughters walking frame.Comprehensive menu. Bit pricy but what’s not nowadays?Order barbecue ribs. Very hot on arrival bit burnt but tasty.Prawn ginger spring onion/ chicken veg and chicken sweet corn soup. Boiled rice.All reasonably portioned. Not too big for our appetites. Wet hot towels napkins and chopsticks if reg’d.Overall impressed def go again.

I have been eating the food cooked by Mandy, Simon and their Family for over 30 years and they are a wonderful family producing the best Cantonese food I have ever eaten. I have probably sampled the entire menu over the years and every dish is superb!Thank you Mandy, Simon, their kids and their past and present staff for all your hard work! See you again soon!

This is the best Chinese, Cantonese and Pekinese food in the UK. Thank you Mandy and family and of course all the staff for many happy takeaways and meals in the restaurant.

We had not been here in over 20 years , now I remember why !Overpriced small portions packed out with onions .Service was ok but the food was bland and uninviting.Small bottle of Tiger beer £3.45 , that makes it nearly £7 a pint !!This is Blackburn not London .Don't waste your money here , it promises so much but just doesn't deliver.

This place is way over priced for very average food I've had much better for less money . The owner Mandy is very rude on the phone and if you arrive early for your food her face says it all customers service skills are zero

Best Chinese’s food ever, just moved to this area and thought we’d give it a try, the restaurant is very small but the food is out of this world, the owner and staff are really nice and we can’t wait to go again !!!!

Absoltely love the Great Village. Food is always delicious! I would have it more often but they don't offer delivery and it is quite a drive to get it but must say it is definitely worth it!!

They say "the stuff goes home at 9 Byeeee" at the telephone when someone ask a table at 9 despise it say the place is open until 22,30.... not very polite too.

We have been going to the Great Village for 25 years and Mandy the proprietor has maintained excellent standards in all that time. Eat in the small, friendly and clean restaurant or take away. You can always rely on a great meal or experience.

Tuvimos una cena maravillosa aquí el sábado por la noche, hay un extenso menú y varios banquetes en distintos precios para elegir. Como me gusta probar unos cuantos platos en vez de adherirse a uno de los que sugirió el banquete para 4 personas a 20 libras. Con sopa para empezar, luego de 3 entradas y 4 comida principal junto con un enorme plato de arroz frito había espacio para todo el mundo. También teníamos la opción de cambiar cualquier de las 4 comidas principales si queríamos. No hay una lista extensa de vinos pero nos arreglamos dos botellas de vino de Australia que eran 15 libras cada uno. La comida era adorable, nos quedamos muy impresionados y sin duda por volver.

He tenido llevar desde aquí en el pasado, pero nunca he comido en el hasta hace poco. No puedo creer que he esperado tanto tiempo! El personal es muy amable y acogedor, la comida es fantástica y el precio muy razonable. Puede traer su propio vino, que es genial, no puedo esperar a volver.

Fuimos a dar un paseo al azar con mi compañero y terminamos en Blackburn. Nos apetecía algo de comer, así que he buscado en Google y apareció con el gran pueblo. Fue un poco difícil de encontrar y nos pero indeciso cuando finalmente lo hicieron. No parece que nada especial desde fuera. Decidimos ir de todos modos y nos sorprendió gratamente. Es un bonito y pequeño restaurante con sólo unas pocas mesas. El ambiente no es nada especial, pero el personal y la propietaria es muy agradable y amable y lo más importante es que la comida es increíble! Tenía el mejor calamar en mi vida! Lo mejor es que no es muy caro. Sin duda volveré la próxima vez que decida al azar en coche de Blackburn.

My husband has always raved about this Chinese with being from the area, finally decided to give it a go tonight and were not disappointed, was the nicest food I have eaten for a long time, slight confusion with the rice that came with the set meal (my fault, I googled what it was and got the wrong answer haha) but was still lovely, good portion sizes and we didn't manage to finish it....the salt and pepper ribs were the best! Will be returning very soon

Mi esposa y yo visitamos en Nochevieja para los banquetes o elegimos ser. Utilizamos para visitar regularmente en Navidad o Año Nuevo, pero no he sido durante 20 años debido a alojarse en un hotel en año nuevo durante los últimos 20 años. De todas formas, el servicio fue excelente y la comida aún mejor. Somos de la zona de Preston y no será 20 años antes de que regresaremos.

Absolutely love Great Village.. I have takeaways mostly and travel a 10 mile round trip to get it, because nowhere else comes close to the quality and flavour!! The service is great too!!

We had a meal here last week and it was absolutely delicious. Everything is great, the service, atmosphere, cleanliness. If you like squid then try the salt & pepper starter it's brilliant. Well worth a visit eat in or take away really delicious. Portions not big but definitely enough and worth every penny !

Been here many times, the food and service is consistently brilliant. Always a fantastic energy throughout the meal and an over warmth when dining. I'll be back very soon!

Love going to Mandy's as the food is always of excellent quality.I would have given full marks but it's often very annoying when you turn up for at the agreed time for your food and you have a 15-20 minute wait.

Visited for the first time with friends and our daughter. The food was very nice and we took our own alcohol. We were well looked after.

My partner and I usually visit midweek and the service from the young lady and young man on a Wednesday/Thursday is sensational. Not to mention the famous owner who they call Mandy! The food never fails to disappoint and is truly fantastic!

We were recommended to eat here by a friend who raves about it and we agreed to go with him to shut him up. Having eaten in some 'quality' Chinese restaurants we weren't expecting it to be up to that standard - how wrong we were! It's only small and hence everything is made fresh. The hot and sour soup was beautiful and I had a quarter duck as a main - it was fresh and succulent - this is a dish which can be a giveaway as it can be dry and tasteless if it's left hanging about- certainly not the case here. A big bonus is you can take your own drinks which keeps the cost down. Service was attentive but not intrusive and the owner Mandy presides over everything in a very efficient manner. So impressed we went back a couple of days later.

Since moving to the area we have visited on numerous occasions. Whether you have a take away or eat in the restaurant the food is always good and the staff give you a warm and friendly welcome.

Absolutely love the food. Visited this restaurant weekly and more recently since having a little one had takeaway at the weekend as a treat! Everything is yummy. My fav is vegetables in coconut sauce and my partners is the vermicelli. It's friendly warm and welcoming and never disappoints. Taken many friends to this restaurant which we fondly call Mandy's after the owner.

We meet a small group of friends here every year for birthday celebrations and it never disappoints. We had the Cantonese banquet which was just delicious. Every dish was tasty. The ribs are just the best ever. Mandy, the hostess is a warm welcoming lady. We brought a surprise, homemade birthday cake which the staff kindly brought out after the meal, singing along with us. Two of my friends who were there also order a takeaway every week as they reckon it's by far the best Chinese food around.

The starters were appetising but there was a generous helping of batter on everything. The mains were alright but rather lacking in flavour other than salt.

Good takeaway pricey at best had a sneeky look in restaurant side could get crowded as the main entrance gets but food very nice fast service so yes it spot on takeaway

This was a first for us . Just dined on a takeaway comprising of salt and pepper chicken wings, ( £5.30 for six pieces equating to 3 chicken wings ). A bit on the dry side and no way representing quality food or value for money. Barbecued spareribs, ( £5.50 for five ribs ). Were terribly dry and charcoaled and very unappealing to the eye. Chicken Chow Mein at £5.75 was very bland. Good portions of chicken and noodles but this was my wife's choice and she said she had experienced tastier similar dishes. I went for King Prawn Chop Suey at £6.50 and this price included boiled rice which would have been £7.45 if fried rice had have been chosen Plenty of bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, water chestnut, carrot and a few mushrooms. It contained 7 King Prawns. Again, very bland and salt was needed . I suppose it is better than being too salty.Overhaul, very disappointed, especially the chicken wings. Feel like I have really been ripped off with regard to this ' extra portion ' . If you don't try then you don't know and to think I travelled halfway across town for a let down takeaway. We have honestly had much better for far less.

Hooray for Mandy!! We love this little intimate restaurant and the best thing about it is Mandy. The food is of the highest quality & we have never had a bad meal.

Went to the restaurant with 4 friends on a celebration between Christmas and the New Year after recommendations. The dining area is very small and a little over lit in my opinion. It did not feel like a restaurant but it had more of a cafe feel with paper table cloths.Starters were ordered and all were of a good quality – a little small on portion sizes though given the cost of them but they all went down well with all of us.Mains were ordered but one main was left and we also got cold fried rice which was also overcooked. The rice was replaced but we were still waiting on one meal which came almost as everyone had finished theirs.Mains were just very average and the late main course was served to a regular who informed me that this was the worst food they had had in the restaurant. An off night? The food was very average indeed and, at the cost of nearly £16 not including the rice for a main, I thought was expensive. I have most definitely been to better Chinese restaurants in Blackburn. Great friendly manager though, she saved the night. Will I return? Not in a hurry!!

It's been a while since we visited the Great Village - it was superb once again! Starters were hot and fesh and the aromatic duck was divine! Our main dishes were also gorgeous so a big thumbs up from us! Can't fault the place apart from the fact that it's a half an hours drive away!

After reading some of the reviews on here, I felt compelled,to add my own review.I have been eating here for over 20 years, and yes there has been times when the food was not quite up to its very high standard, manly down to having a new second chief. At these time I have always told the owners, and it has been dealt with. This little gem of a restaurant, just catered for a party of 29 people, age range from 18 to 79, not one person had a bad thing to say, all thought food was hot tasty and of high standard, service was excellent, to say there were so many, There was no rush for us to get out, we had a great time at the great village. Thanyou Mandy, Simon and all your staff.

Visited midweek on the strength of some very favourable reviews. While present the high volume of regulars collecting take away was clearly a positive sign. Food - generous but no better than any other Chinese I have visited. Prices - for food reasonable value but for drinks a bit more than I would have liked. Starters, mains and two rounds of drinks for two came to just under £50. Service - very pleasant and warm. I particularly enjoyed eavesdropping on the host's conversations with her regulars. It gave a real sense of the community affection for GVR. The room temperature was noticeably on the cool side. Overall this is a pleasant Chinese but I wouldn't bother to travel unless it's your local.

I get takeaway from here very often and it is by far the best Chinese in the area. Slightly more expensive than the competition but rightly so as its in a different league. Eating in is just as enjoyable, Mandy makes sure of that. Top notch

Small and cramped but some may say intimate. A little gem really where the food quality and taste is super. The hostess really is the hostess with the mostess and the service matched the food quality. I would eat here again and considering I am not a huge fan of Chinese food that really is saying something.

I tried a takeaway from here on the back of reading the Trip Advisor reviews and was not disappointed. The food was reasonably priced, piping hot, fresh and tasty. I always order the same dish in every Chinese I go to so I have become good at comparing and this is up there with the best in the area!!!

The quality of the food for a take away meal is by far the best I have had. A familiar face to great you in Mandy, and excellent food. My only criticism is that they don't deliver!

I have been visiting here for years for both take away food and eating in, nothing is too much trouble and it is more like visiting a friend than being there as a customer. The food is excellent, I travel a lot with work and often eat chinese food but not even in China Town in London have I found anywhere to rival Mandy' food. We are booked in again this weekend to celebrate my Mum's birthday, my Grans birthday (94!) and our wedding anniversary.

Although we live less than a mile from this restaurant we didn't realise it was there until it appeared on trip advisor. Having found it we will be returning. Tiny place, a bit like eating in some bodies front room but that does not detract from the excellent food. Excellent crispy duck and friendly service. We will be back

never had a happy experience with this place, visited mainly in groups as we live local. Last visit a group of 14 paid £16 ahead for buffet, I only managed to eat 2 ribs a spring roll, small curry n rice.. there was next to nothing, asked if that was the lot she replied "one more bowl of rice" I sat there eating dry rice! oh and you pay £3 a pint and watch "Mandy" pour a cheap can of carlsberg into a glass.. but the best was serving a veggie chicken n sweetcorn soup.. he sent it back for it to return minutes later, the same soup with the chicken removed!

We often visit this lovely place even though we no longer live in the city but trust me its well worth the travel When you visit you will be so glad you as saying the food is fantastic is an understatement, the food is beautifully presented and tastes incredible the best Chinese food you will ever have eaten also the owner "Mandy" is very friendly indeed. we normally end up chatting to Mandy who is so friendly she makes the meal extra special" All in all I would say the staff go to great lengths to make you feel welcome an incredible night and we will soon be returning... If you haven't been go now as i cant recommend a better place to dine.

We've been going to The Great Village for a few years and we have always had top notch food served by the superb lady owner - Mandy. We love Chinese food and will travel over to Blackburn from our home in Bolton to eat here (that means one of us has to drive - not a decision to be taken lightly!)The restaurant is small, friendly and has contemporary decor, always clean and the greeting is always very warm. Certainly a restaurant to visit if you appreciate great Chinese food.
