2016 & August 2023: Cute dogs. Very quiet when I visited and we were the only ones on our side of the bar. The pub is almost divided in half. We had cider, wine and baby Guinness. There is a nice outdoor area with sheltered seating. It’s got steps outside to get into the pub so if you’re unable to get out of your wheelchair accessibility isn’t great. Inside is, and they have accessible toilets which is so rare these days!

Very good McMullen's Brewery pub a few yards from Hertford East Railway Station. Three cask beers on handpump when I visited including a mild. Lots of outdoor seating some of it covered in the lovely garden to the rear.

Friendly and genuine pub with plenty of regulars, just refurbished outside so looks smart and very handy for Hertford East station. They even serve Taytos crisps which are my favourite ! Football on the tv.

Lovely friendly well laid out pub. Lots of quirky features including Led Zeppelins stairway to heaven lyrics in the mens toilets. Good beer and a garden that has everything including a TV area. Well worth a visit.

1st time in pub for about 30+ years, still a proper pub I was pleased to see had an enjoyable night playing darts with a good bunch of guys.

What a gem of a pub! I love a traditional back street pub and this is exactly what it is. Two bars filled with friendly locals and run by a lovely couple. The pub has a great selection of beers, wines and spirits (and snacks!), is reasonably priced and dog friendly. The garden is wonderful - spacious with lots of greenery / flowers. Plenty of TV's both in and out showing a wide range of sports. Top pub!

It’s great that there are still a few pubs left like this, proper drinkers pubs for locals where everyone knows everyone. As an outsider I was made welcome and felt at home.

Visited The Great Eastern this afternoon thinking l was going to get the normal friendly welcome, how wrong was I?. After buying my drink I went to the loo, on my way out I happened to look out on to the garden where customers where chatting to the barmaid. One of the customers made eye contact with me and wanted to know, 'What the f**k I was looking at?' The barmaid just looked at me and said nothing. For a pub trying to attract customers what kind of behaviour is this?..

Very friendly, you would never feel alone here. They don't serve food per se but Sunday lunchtimes they put roast potatoes on the bar (and other stuff). The best 'local' in town.

The Eastern is great. The last real pub in Hertford. The centre of a community complete with Sunday meat raffle and guess the bonus ball competition. Long may it continue as it is.

Fantastic little spot. We wandered in here on a quiet afternoon with the little one and the lady behind the bar suggested we take over the saloon part so he could run around and play to his heart's content. The interior is lovely too. Very quaint.

The best pub in Hertford, many due to the fact that's it's run by the best landlord and landlady in town. No decent real ales though, just the McMullen rubbish.
