Grandads in Stockport

Really brilliant food. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left. Everything was good quality and tasty too. Husband had fish, chips & gravy and mug of coffee. I had sausage, gravy & chips (small) and cup of tea. Will be back don’t know when though!

Known about this place for years but always went to the other chippy on underbank but that was closed today so I came here instead and I'm glad now because it was absolutely delicious. Fish chips and mushy peas all cooked to perfection. Absolutely perfect fish. Mushy peas were beautiful. Staff were busy but were friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend this place.

I'm just visiting Stockport for 5 days but have enjoyed the fish and chips at grandad's twice. My best meals on this trip, thank you kindly.

I had pie, chips, peas and a coffee. The chips were really nice. Good value and friendly staff.

Welcoming place, clearly an important part of many locals day to day routine. Mix of customers, kids with a couple quid, getting a quick cone of chips and a can, older people coming in for lunch, a cup of hot tea and to sit and people watch, or natter with friends. People like me who just wants a plate of chips cheese and gravy after a horrid morning. It's safe, warm, and you get a friendly smile. Keep doing what you're doing

What a great place to eat. My fish, chips and peas were perfect, my wife only had fish but totally enjoyed her fish. The staff were very nice and helpful and the atmosphere in the restaurant was so nice. Felt welcome. Will definitely be going back for more fish and chips. Only one thing I would like to mention, if you have a mug of tea ask the staff to fill the the mug with more water ?

My dad and I have been here a few times. Service and food has always been great. They even corrected a mistake that I made in ordering with no fuss! Amazing

Didn't like it at all and my work mate didn't either. The chips were ok but the sausage was vile, cheap nasty and way over done. The mushy peas had next to no colour or taste ... Really disappointing as I was hungry and looking forward to it after reading the good review. Safe to say I'll never be back 🙅🏻‍♂️

Fancied fish and chips as we used to call here regular but have not been for a while we ordered the small fish chips it was brought to us by the polite lady who took our order there was hardly any batter on the fish and i could not believe how small the small fish was it was like a large fish finger the chips had many what i call eyes on them and were hard and pale i sent the fish back to be battered and they did give us a new fish but the batter overwhelmed the very small fish the plate was a child's size plate i saw the regular size fish and it wasn't much bigger this used to be a great chippy but standards have fallen and the price isnt justified i know times are hard prices have risen etc i tried the chippy on underbank and theirs was huge so was the small and the place was packed and its virtually the same price and was very good so that will be my regular.

Stumbled onto this chippy. I sat inside opposite the till. I could hear the staff serving the customers. I am blown away by how nice the staff are. They are so friendly. They offer to carry your things and nothing is too much effort. The food is just the way chippy food should be. Tasty and fresh. This place is underrated.

Tasteless chips made from old potatoes. It used to be very good but definitely gone downhill 👎

My treat pudding chips and peas with gravy. Easy access on ground floor. Table service great staff who care about they're products. Also Senior Citizen menu.

Took my meal away not realizing I haven't finished while I went to the toilet apart from that the service was very good

Once again we were visiting Stockport to see the Market Hall. Lunchtime arrived and we immediately thought of Grandad's fish and chip shop. The place was quite busy but we found a seat near the window. Two minutes later our order was taken for 2 OAP specials. We had been dreaming of our chippy dinner all week and it did not fail us. Absolutely lovely food and the service was very good. We will be back in September.

My friend and I went here for lunch, she raved about how good it was, so off we went, we both ordered fish chips and peas with a canned drink. When it came I was completely underwhelmed, the fish was extremely thin and small with light batter and a handful of chips, to say it didn't fill my hollow tooth is an understatement. My friend who recommended it was embarrassed and said it really did used to be so much better. Not sure if it's changed hands but certainly will not be returning. Oh and to top it off it cost £19 to come out very dissatisfied and not full.

I really like coming here, when I order any fish meal, they always ask if I would like the fish lightly battered. This I and my partner really appreciated; the staff are polite and friendly, the service is excellent. If you enjoy a chippy meal, this is the place to go

We were on holiday and walking along Princes Street looking for somewhere to have lunch. Spotted Grandads Fish Bar and decided to call in. We had only been seated for a few minutes when a very polite young man came to our table. Looked at the menu and decided to have the OAP special. I asked for tap water and he was back in a flash with our drinks. Did not wait long for our meals and when we tried the fish, could not believe how light and flaky it was. Everything was perfect and the service could not have been better in a high class restaurant. We will certainly call again when on holiday. Well done everybody.

Ordered chips, pudding and gravy along with a can of coke. The food was lukewarm and the chips were hard. God knows what was inside the pudding. £7.99!

For what it is, the food isn't appropriately priced. Very, very average food that was overpriced. Among the lesser steak + kidney puddings I've consoomed

Used to be a great chippy but rapidly gone down hill. This is not just once this has happened. Used to go here often. I had not been for a while but went in for a takeaway. The food was bland and lots of chips were cold like they'd been sat for a period of time. I gave them the benefit of the doubt due to previous good experience. I called in again a week or so later and experienced similar food. Shame cause this used to be a good chippy. They seem to not care anymore about standard of food.

I don't usually write reviews for restraunts however felt compelled today due to such outstanding service, staff were incredibly hospitable, the food was fantastic and overall I had such a lovely experience here. Can't recommend this place enough

Just took my eldest lads for simple chippy dinner and it was disgusting!!! The chips were strangely chewy, we all ordered large but portions were inconsistent. One of my sons dinner- he had half hot and half cold chips. Should of known it wouldn’t be great when I realised how sticky the chairs were and dirty table number signs. We were asked if we enjoyed our lunch and we were honest and said no - they said it was the potatoes fault. Shame really as this was an excellent establishment a few years ago which is why we popped in.

Adequate, not the chippy it once was🤔 asked for lightly battered fish, whilst the fish itself was lightly coated there was a large amount of batter along the edges which was not good.Gravy you could take a knife to, Coffee was weak. On the positive chips were good but not enough and not enough mushy peas. Shame really because I was visiting Stockport and looked forward to some hometown fish n chips

Well today we looked forward to fish and chips...requested lightly battered omg half the fish was batter ...coffee not drinkable...dish water ...100% terrible food ...will not return after years of going.

Today we had lightly battered fish..x 2 There was more batter than fish...coffee was like dishwasher water undrinkable..staff couldn't care less when we complained...downhill from where we remember it.

We fancied fish n chips today, we decided to go to Grandads. The place was very clean, order taken straight away, fresh just cooked fish n chips arrived 10 minutes later. We were not disappointed. The meal was lovely. Staff were very friendly. Will go there again.

I love this chippy! The food is always fresh and piping hot. Its consistently good quality. Its nice to have a lovey sit down chippy meal in the middle of stockport instead of having to use these over priced cafes with soggy and sparse salad stuck on the side of anything you buy.

Not crowded, reasonable menu and one for pensioners, fish n chips, n mushy peas are very good value with a drink included.

Came here today with my daughter. Ive been a few times before. Not a great experience this time chips were practically white!! Apparently they are using different oil. Leathery tasting chips. And a frozen sasauge. Dont think we will return.

Fish was extremely dry and it was horrible. The worst fish I ever tasted. The batter was not that crusty.

It was very busy in here and there was a fairly long wait for our food but you could tell that when it came, it had been freshly cooked from scratch and it was lovely. Whilst there, we witnessed the staff dealing with other customers and it's obvious that they care about their customers - we moved for a partially sighted gent and his beautiful service dog (we weren't asked to move, we offered to, so that the gent and his dog could be near the counter) and it was lovely to see that staff were so friendly and welcoming to him and his dog and they provided a big bowl of water for the dog. Then as we were in the queue to pay, a gent infront of us suffered the embarassment of his card declining and they were so lovely with him and even though I offered to pay for his food, the owner refused to take my money and let him leave without paying, trusting him to come back and pay later. Wonderful, genuine customer service. The food and pricing is excellent too. We will be back!!

Used to be a great chippy. But last few times the quality of the food as been poor and the prices are a total joke. Go to the chippy on underbank alot nicer chippy. Better quality and cheaper.

First went to grandads in November 2019 and was impressed, fast forward 9 months and it’s possibly the worst food I’ve ever had. The batter on the sausage was inedible and burnt on the 2 we ordered. There was raw chips mixed in with the cooked ones and the coke they serve us from a multipack not intended for resale. In fairness I was offered my money back or a drink or an ice cream but that’s not the point. It ruined my appetite and why beggars belief is there was only 3 tables in and they couldn’t even batter a sausage. I will never return

Tried this Restaurant for the first time. Sat outside on a very hot day. The Customer Service was excellent and the Fish and Chips meal was delicious. I will be visiting the Restaurant again, for sure.

Every time I have gone there the taste of the food is amazing especially the gravy. Although the food is good the prices are quite high for certain things like just a small portions of chips.

After talking to a homeless person and asking if they would like any food I went in and asked for a portion of chips and a muffin please ( northern word for bap,balm etc ) The tall Asian man said small medium or large so i just said medium and on seeing them they looked a normal portion. Then he said £4.25 !!!!!!!!!!

£4.25 for medium portion of chips and a buttered muffin take away. Rip off

Good food, good staff, good value i like it

I ordered a regular fish and chips to eat in. The lighting was cold. The chips were leathery and the fish was overcooked. It was all very bland. The lighting did improve when the toilet door swung open. I don't understand why the lighting was like I was in an operating theatre. All this for £7.50.

It must be good, it is usually busy if not packed, and patrons sometimes have to go elsewhere. This is a pity in a way because this is an 'absolutely no frills' fish and chip restaurant at decent prices for freshly cooked meals.Staff are generally rushed off their feet, but are friendly and helpful.Well worth going back to, as we did, so give them a try!

Used to be a fantastic cafe but the last couple of times we have been service has been slow, orders wrong taking orders without checking what they have available. It used to be a really efficient place not sure what's changed.

Nice fish & chips, reasonable prices, it was a bit cramped where we sat but would visit again. It's also close to the shopping centre & seems very popular, it's always busy.
