Gourmet in North Lincolnshire

We went as a group of friends and pre-booked, we were seated and served quickly. Food was nice and we were happy with what we ordered. However on getting the bill we were clearly overcharged, we questioned the bill and asked for a breakdown, this was not given and another bill just slapped on the counter but this time £50 less! No apology until we grumbled about the rudeness and were just told they had given us the wrong bill. We won’t return

I have been with family and friends twice in May The food was 👍 The staff were very attentive and we didn't have to wait long for the food!The starters we had was seekh kebab,karahi kebab, and mixed kebab. The main course was Jelfrezi chicken which was a little hot for one of my friends, but after taking the green chillies out it was fine. I had lamb Achari which is my favourite and was also the best I have had and I am one that's been to a lot of Asian restaurants. My other friend ordered mixed grill karat. We all thought it was great value for money. Thank you gourmet keep up the good work and we will be back soon.

We got a set tandori set meal for two takeaway and we threw the popadomsxwere all broken, the salad was warm, we got five of the same sauces i dont know why, the naan bread was cold, the chips were cold, we didnt get any pilau rice that should have been with it, and the curry sauce was like set gravy it was absolutely rubbish i will never use them again

On arrival the 6 of us were asked to sit in the waiting area, but as time passed it became apparent there was no table available for us (we had booked), we asked on 4 occasions if there was a problem and was told no just 2 seconds more wait. After 45 minutes waiting I finally got an answer that they had over booked the restaurant and there wasn’t a table for us. If they had just explained that in the first place we could have decided what to do, but they just left us sat there with no explanation or apology, very rude staff, which is a shame because we go here a lot and the food is always delicious. I understand there can be mix ups with bookings, but just explain to your customers especially if you are asked the question!!

Unable to offer a single complete starter or any curry at all despite claiming to have ‘vegan options’ Only starter I could have was the Mushroom puree without the puree- basically just sliced mushrooms and garlic. They couldn’t do me a single curry as they use one base mix containing ghee for every curry. They offered me scampi and chips though which again completely helps you to understand they have NO IDEA what vegans avoid. I’ve eaten here many times before and been assured that the vegetable bhuna has no milk in it but this time he brought me the allergy menu (dated 2016) so I could check which starter I could have and I noticed the bhuna states milk. At first I was assured again that it was fine and didn’t have milk in but then they must have checked with the kitchen. It was embarrassing, and a waste of money, to go to the Indian and end up with chips (which tasted fishy by the way so I suspect they were fried in the scampi fryer) I have given an average rather than a bad rating purely due to acknowledging that the other members of the family had good meals, service is good and the staff pleasant. However for vegans it gets a ‘terrible’ rating from me. It’s unfortunate that we will now need to find a new Indian restaurant that can cater for all of us.

not that great. for £37.00. waited 40 minutes. had a couple of lagers whilst waiting..food dry .ordered two types of rice. but came out both the same . wont be in a hurry to return. in its day it was a top restaurant. packed out. tonight only 1 table. says it all

We have visited here quite a few times, always very nice and good food, staff are friendly and polite. Very nice cannot fault anything.

8 of us visited for a birthday meal. I'm pleased I prebooked the day before as it was packed. The special menu was back on, we all chose from the regular menu. The service may have been a little slow but the food was worth waiting for. The staff may not have been particularly chatty but they attended to our needs as required and were polite. We were provided with our own 'doggy bag' in which to take home our leftovers. I cannot find fault at all and will not hesitate in returning.

Extremely rude staff. Mediocre food at best. Definitely would not go again. Looking at other reviews, rudeness of staff is very common.

Ordered tonight Really disappointed Chicken in the curry was grisly and had to spit it out Some of the rice felt crunchy The pickle tray sauces tasted like they had gone off I would have phoned to complain but after reading some of the comments they don't take the criticism well

After trying an out of town restaurant and walking out due to how long things were taking, we called the gourmet on exit and asked if we could have a table in 30 mins to which they said yes. After arriving at the place we should have gone to all along we was greeted with the friendly staff, taken straight to our table and had drinks promptly. Food was served fresh and quickly as always despite being at full capacity. Fantastic food as always and lesson learned. If its not broke, don't fix it. Will certainly be returning again!

So, we ordered a takeout curry, not ordered here since before covid now. My sister pre warned me that she also had a bad meal here, however i disagreed and said id always enjoyed my meals at gourmet. I ordered a chicken tikka masala, pilau rice, garlic naan and poppadoms. My curry tasted awful, the chicken tasted weird and dry. Nothing like ive ever tastes before for a curry. My partner ordered a chicken achari curry, which was unbelievably sweet compared to all other local indians we have tried the same dish. He also complained of dry tasting chicken. The rice was fine, you cant really go wrong with that part. The poppadoms tasted stale, as if theyve been left out for days. Overall, we usually would have both demolished an indian takeaway as we dont normally eat out often and both have big appetite. However, we kept trying to eat this meal and the more we got into it, the worse it was tasting. It was very disappointing, only to be told on the phone by the staff “thats how we cook it” and “you’ve taken the food now so we cant do anything”. The man was even arguing with me, insinuating i was lying. Ive never had a bad word to say about this indian before covid. I used to go here all the time to eat. However it appears it has gone downhill in comparison to other local indians. The customer service just topped it off, we will not be eating here again and advising all relatives/friends to choose elsewhere. Zeera spice is the place to go or mumbai lounge in Brigg!!

Food wasn’t up to scratch, wasn’t even ok to eat and get through it. Chicken was dry and popperdoms were stale. Chicken pokora was really dry and soft, nothing seemed cooked well. Gave feedback back to the restaurant, they wasn’t having any of it. The man behind from the phone was patronising and laughed off all complaints. Would not recommend if you’re looking for something to treat yourself.

Joked with the staff that we had been told it's the best Indian restaurant in town, so they had a lot to live up, they played it down, laughing, saying well we don't know about that.....well, you outdid our previous favourite restaurant by a mile, absolutely perfect. Cheers guys, well done

Family meal We all had the 'specials' with a starter, main and side Chicken tikka massala was nice, but an unusual shade of red Keema rice is good as are the garlic naans Nice cold cobra beer on draught Good service too

Me and my partner do not go to anywhere else (Indian/Bangladeshi) in this town. Simple as that, the gourmet is The best Indian in this town. Food is absolute top drawer and the service is second to none. Really friendly and they know how to treat you. It’s decorated out really nice also which adds to the dining experience Perfect for dining with a partner or friend or even groups. No need to look any further trust me !!

Thank you for our amazing food. The food is always consistently good at The Gourmet. There’s a great choice and even the vegetarian range is delicious. The staff are very friendly and customer service excellent.

Meal on Christmas Eve. Staff were rude and unfriendly. Food was greasy and all mains were either bright red or bright orange, never seen anything like it. One of the worst Indian meals I've had. Also if you're gonna charge an extortionate amount for a glass of aldi 25p lemonade out of a bottle at least make sure it isn't flat. Will not return.

We visit once every few weeks and have a great time. But tonight had my family across from Leeds and the guys went above and beyond. Great place. Love it. Great service exceptional food.

We a chicken jalfraze, we got chicken in a madras sauce. No onions no tomatoe no capsicums and no fresh chillies. Absolutely bog Standard . We will never use this place again. ABSOULTY RUBBISH

Visited here twice in the last couple of weeks following the closure of our regular curry house.On both occasions the quality of the food has been superb. Staff didn't engage a great deal on our first visit, but we thought they were quiet rather than rude. Much better on our second visit.A sign of its quality and popularity is the fact that we had to wait for a table on a midweek evening.The Gourmet is now our new regular haunt!

It’s always nice to see this place busy, showing a small business can thrive. The amount of people there doesn’t detract from the service either - we had three courses and they all arrived in a timely manner, were well cooked and was very tasty. We all had different dishes and each were very nice. Well recommended, food excellent and staff exceptional. Will be back very soon!

Always good tasty food and helpful wait on staff. Clean loos and a diverse choice on menu. There is also a take away service which is cooked freshly as I called in and hadn't pre ordered had a wait time of 10 15 mins. Good food good service.

Can’t fault the service here but I’m not going to be going back in a hurry. Really disappointed that my curry (a balti) lacked flavour. Last time I think I had a jalfrezi which is typically spicy but was bland also.

Came here for a meal after hearing good reviews and it did not disappoint the food was excellent great portions and piping hot the service was excellent could not fault them quick and efficient even though there was a large group already in when we got there would highly recommend this place one of the best Indian I have had

A lot of people rave about this place but I cannot see why. The service was relatively slow as the staff were far more keen on takeaway orders than customers in the restaurant. The portion sizes for starters and mains were alarmingly small and I felt that for the prices charged especially for Yorks/Lincs area were high. Sadly not a great experience at all.

Ordered a takeaway from here on the 01/06/2018. The food was very nice. My chicken jalfrizi was full of flavour and cooked perfectly, my partners chicken tika masala was very tasteful too. Definitely order from here again

Last couple of times I’ve ordered from here the food hasn’t had that final touch and not been that great, however we were celebrating a friends birthday and the food was outstanding full compliments go to the chef. The service was on point too. The restaurant had a slight setback due to the power cut in the area which we thought they handled well. My chicken balti was unreal and the whole experience on this occasion was great. We will be back! Highly Recommended!!

Fantastic meal , great service, they never rush you to finish your meal 5 star peshwari naan to die for everything tastes fantastic . Chicken rogan and chicken chaat so tasty . Won’t ever eat anywhere else .

Visited just before Christmas as we were working in Scunthorpe, coming from Birmingham I consider myself a bit of a curry expert.

Came here on a Saturday as a party of 6 just before closing time And they happily said it was OK to sit down for a meal..glad we did as we had six perfect meals and six happy customers

Beautiful food and amazing flavours. Great value for money. Staff very friendly and helpful. If you’re vegan ask for the veggie dishes without ghee. Really enjoyed the food. Shared mains with a friend. Veggie pathia was sweet and flavourful. Veggie rogan was smokey and again flavourful. Really really tasty! Veg samosa were lovely and crispy. Much prefer gourmet to clay oven on Ashby. They even have strongbow dark fruits on tap (vegan friendly). They’d run out when we were there though.

It’s very rare that I visit the same place two weeks consecutively, but after two good days, I found myself a the Gourmet on consecutive Saturdays and it didn’t disappoint.

This is a great Indian been eating here for years food is amazing service is top notch and the restaurant itself clean and modern highly recommend

Hemos comido aquí durante años, siempre es muy buena, el personal es siempre cortés y servicial. Honestamente puedo decir que he comido en muchos de la India mientras que hemos visitado otros lugares en Inglaterra y muy pocos han sido tan bueno como el gourmet. No creas lo que dicen otras personas, siempre ha sido limpia, y nunca he tenido una mala comida o algo remotamente antihigiénicos.

Un grupo bastante grande de nosotros, la comida vinieron todos al mismo tiempo y era excelente buen servicio alegra los platos, etc. para tarta de cumpleaños encantador ambiente tranquilo sólo interrumpida por nosotros jaja.

The restaurant is an absolute hidden gem.Great decor with polite and professional service from the staff.Most importantly the food is superb.Monday to Thursday a smaller value menu is available and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of choice offered.For £10.95 you can purchase 3 courses of a starter, main course and either a naan bread or rice. You can of course pay extra if you wish to have rice and a naan. I ordered a Reshmi Kebab, Murgh Massalla, a Keema Naan and Pilau Rice.I incorrectly assumed that the portions would be smaller than from the main menu as I was presented with a very generous helping of Massalla. The food was cooked perfectly and arrived promptly after being ordered.I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to dining there again very soon.Making a reservation is advised especially for weekends.Give this place a try if you have never been as you will not be disappointed.

Won't go into details but found food to be unhygienic! Will not eat in here again. Also if you order one poppadom you only get one! No extras given like in other restaurants

We arrived for my friends birthday to be greeted by a rude member of staff.. gave us our menus and once ordered he snached them off us. We paid the bill.. sat and finished the drinks. Then went to walk out and was asked to pay the bill again and was told not to leave.. We felt very embarrassed.. He confirmed with someone else that we had paid.. He didn't even apologise. Absolutely rude. I used to be a frequent visitor. But won't be going back.. However the food was good.

As a family we often visit the Gourmet. The staff are always very friendly and welcoming and the quality of food is always of a very good standard. Great value for money, would definitely recommend.

Went for a meal on Saturday 22/10/16. The waiter's were more interested in their phones than the customers. Food was OK but nothing special. However the big issue was no soap in the gents toilet. When I mentioned it to the waiter he just said OK and nothing was done. Won't be returning.

What a great meal there as always! Went with wife and friends without booking but by a 15 minutes it was full. This must have meant something. Food was hot and delicious. Will always go back as the service is excellent.

We've visited Gourmet and had takeaways on numerous occassions and enjoyed everytime visit / meal.A good selection of weel cooked dishes, with an excellent atmosphere and staff.Highly recommended.

The food here is lovely. We usually go midweek when u can get a starter and main meal with a side dish for £10.95 each. Service is good. Would advise that you check your bill as we often have mistakes on ours.

The best restaurant in Ashby(in my opinion ) , food superb quality, staff always friendly and very helpful.

Another fantastic meal at ‘The Gourmet’. This time I opted for the Tandoori Chicken, well cooked and not dry. We find this is the best Indian in the local area.

The food here has always been good ..the service by one in particular was a bit rushed and rude ..They missed off one garlic nan ..but food was lovely.

We had some friends over from France who requested an Indian meal so with only one nights notice we booked a party of 14 into the Gourmet . What a fantastic night ! The staff were great and even though it was a busy Friday evening we were served quickly and efficiently. The food was delicious and enjoyed by everyone. Thank you.

Lovely evening, the waiters were really helpful and went out of their way to give great service, left there full, happy and with a free plastic penguin - who could want more. I would recommend to anyone to go, prices very reasonable for the quality.

Visited on 18.4.16 food was fabulous service was outstanding. A large party of us and we were well taken care of. Would recommend with no hesitation.

Nice enough atmosphere, pleasant enough staff. The chapatis were the best bit of the meal. The dall chana starter was dumped on top of what looked like a whole pot of yoghurt, very odd. The vegetable paneer was unremarkable. No spiciness, no heat. The tarka dall was tarka dull, again no real taste or seasoning to it. Not entirely sure how it has won some sort of best restaurant award, maybe the judges don't get out much. At least it's not actually nasty.

The Gourmet has become our local Indian in recent months. We normally go during the week when it is three courses for £11.95. We enjoy the lamb kebabs, samosa and the chicken pakoras for starters. The Balti, pathia and dopiaza for curries and the pilau rice and garlic nan for side dishes. They have an excellent range of wines on offer whether you want red, rose or sparkling. The meal comes to just over £40, which is great value and the staff are very friendly and treat regulars well.

Had a meal on Good Friday with friends. Good atmosphere. The service was quite good but some of the waiters seemed a little inexperienced and did not seem to know what they were doing.The food was good but the meal was overpriced. A little disappointing. This used to be the best Indian in the Scunthorpe area but can't guarantee that it is going to be consistently good. The other odd thing was that the Nan bread was very sweet.

Visiting on a Tuesday night we was given the choice to Order from a 3 course meal for 10.95 or the full menu. We ordered from the 3 course meal and the food was great, good flavours and very hot. Staff was welcoming and chatty will deffinatly return again.

Went on Monday with a few friends who came down from Scotland was surprised how busy it was for a Monday night felt like it was a Saturday night our first visit won't be our last food was excellent so was the service food was hot and prompt considering how busy it was well done gourmet 5stars!! We want there on Mother's Day there was 6 of us I must say gourmet never fails us food was exceptional as was ther service just like to say about a comment fairylove 77 made we also had a balti and it wasn't blend at all we have been comeing to the gourmet for 3 years and food and service has always been to a high standard looks like you came to have a free meal! We were sitting next to your table if the food was bad why did you want a doggy bag well that sums it all up?? Well done gourmet restaurant of the year every time

5 of us are here for mothers day treat rushed service,cold food,complained about the Balti being bland and under seasoned 3 of us had it,we were told this is how it's always been it was like pasatta garlic naan sweet and no garlic that's how it's always been apparently,tarka dahl salty and oily they refunded us that back they don't deal with complaints won't be going back

We ate at the Gourmet in a group of 8 for a friends birthday on the recommendation of one of the couples in our group who had eaten there a couple of weeks earlier. Some reviews have commented on poor service but I must say the service we received all night was excellent. Staff were courteous, efficient and very friendly. The food was OK but for me, it was a little bland. About half of us are regular curry eaters and that half all thought the medium spiced dishes were very lightly spiced to the point where they were struggling to be called a curry. The couple who recommended the restaurant are not too keen on spicy food and they loved it. One of them even commented on how hot his meal was. All about taste. If you want mild spiced but good tasting food and good service, this may be a place for you. If you want something a little more authentic with a bit of a kick, maybe this is not the ideal place to go.

Love this place especially the week day special offer menu. The food is always fresh and tasty and a fab place to dive in after a long day at work for a curry and a pint. Always enjoy going and the staff are always friendly. Will always recommend this place and will be back next week!!!

Have used this Indian many times but our visit last night will make us think twice about going back. There was a large group of men in who were loud, foul mouthed and drinking plenty. Don't get me wrong we all like a night out but the atmosphere last night was uncomfortable. Asked a waiter if he would ask the group to moderate the language, don't know if he did but it made no difference. Couldn't wait to get out the place, another waiter asked if we were in a rush, when I explained again he said ' you should have spoken to me' - are you all deaf? By this time the language was obscene.Obviously our £25 bill couldn't compete with the £100's being chalked up by this large group! Gourmet, all your diners deserve your respect and should enjoy their dining experience not just the ones with deep pockets. Shame on you for not having the back bone to deal with this situation.

There are quite a few Indians in Scunthorpe,but, only 2 in Ashby,we had not been to the Gourmet for about 12 years,so, we thought that it would be a change.We saw that they did a Three course special so we ordered something from that menu. Just be "WARNED" if you do order from this menu your rice is classed as 1 course,this does ot happen at other inians I have eaten at.

Went as a group was first couple to arrive didnt get asked if we had bedn served or wanted a drink 3 members of staff had passed - dont get me wring when your busy but a little hi/hello with you in a minute would of done the job but nothing. Food was ok but as this with the staff we wont going again we will be going elsewere jaaz or zeera i think as seem to have good reviews still we did also order takeaways from here but never again very poor not happy at all ..

Visited on Friday evening with a group of friends. The service was great as always, and the food was delicious. Had our favourite starter which is Chicken Chat. My partner then had Chicken Bhuna (which he usually does), but I chose to try something different this time. I had Chicken Kashmiri Massala, and it was gorgeous. I only like mild curry and this was perfect. Plenty of chicken with a mixture of fruits, mixed nuts and cream. We also shared a portion of chips and pilau rice, and there was more than enough. Will look forward to our next visit

There was a big group of us 14 so to get thru everyone as well as other tables as fully booked at the time food very freash and hot very helpful staff even getting drinks for our table thruout the night was well worth it spot on

We have used this restaurant since it opened. Never had an issue before and always recommend. After tonight though this will be the last time. Food was cold due to an issue with their card machine not working having to wait 20 mins for them to get it working. When asking them to replace the starter and chips the manager flat out refused and basically did not care. Said he was very happy to lose our custom. Gob smacked to say the least especially how often we have used them. Remember gourmet you are only as good as your last job. There are plenty of other Indian restaurants in Scunthorpe, we now look forward to finding another. A lesson on customer service and how to retain customers may be wise.... I will point out up until this visit food had been spot on but after the attitude of the manager, out of principle I will never buy from here again.

Don't go there at the end of the night as the staff are aggressive! How they have got restaurant of the year!!!!!!

We went with friends on tue's evening 24/11/15 for our first visit. It was a very relaxed and comfortable place, staff we're very helpful and friendly and the service was excellent. The food was outstanding, looking forward to many more visits

Went on Tuesday with friends there was four of us was very surprised when we went in it was like a Saturday evening restaurant was packed should of booked as their was no tables available but the waiter said a table will be ready in about 20 minutes so we sat in the bar and had a few drinks well worth the wait food was out of the world the best I have had the food was nice and hot considering it was very very busy. Definitely recommend to everyone. Just like to add I now know why you are the best curry house in Grimsby and Scunthorpe well done gourmet keep up the excellent work

Used the take away service for the first time tonight, service was great food was delicious, will definitely visit restaurant and recommend to family and friends.

This is one of our local restaurants and has never let us down. Whether we've eaten in the restaurant or had a takeaway, the food is always delicious. Friendly staff. Always busy which is a good sign.

My husband and I had a pleasant evening at The Gourmet. It has a calm and inviting atmosphere with excellent service and always serves delicious food at reasonable prices. An improvement that could be made however is to replace the current crockery - some of the plates are starting to look a bit worse for wear.

We regularly have take always from here, they are delicious, delivered still hot and on time. Reasonably priced menu keeps us coming back!! Particularly recommend the chicken Mumbai

We visited on a Tuesday night and were pleasantly surprisede to see it so busy.. I chose from the midweek menu which was £9.95 for a starter, main and side dish. Most dishes are on here as well as chef's specials so there's plenty of choice. The chicken bhuna was perfect as were the chicken tikka stater and and aloogobi. Highly recommended, especially between Sunday and Thursday

Had a excellent time in here with my friends,best food I've ever had in Scunthorpe,staff are very friendly n very welcoming with a smile.they do very valuable set meals with so much too choose,not surprised that they have won the award for being the best indies in the town.will definetly be coming back if I pay my visit to scunthorpe again.

We visit here fairly regularly and are never disappointed. The service is always prompt and the staff very helpful. The standard of food is excellent and we usually have a bottle of wine which is reasonably priced. We would also like to offer them our congratulations on winning the Scunthorpe Telegraph Restaurant of the Year, well deserved!

The food is outstanding, with a great choice and generous portions I wouldn't go anywhere else for curry in scunthorpe.

My wife and I were made to feel very welcome. The Menu is very well laid out and the staff were very helpful in enabling us to decide on our food choice. The food we had was exceptional and the house wine is good to.All in all a very enjoyable evening in comfortable surroundings.Thank you to all the staff at Gourmet.

My family and I regularly visit this Indian and also use it for takeaways. Parking is sometimes difficult on busier days but well worth a visit! Food is great and lots of choice. I am vegetarian and there is lots of veggie options and all delicious. Some members of staff I do feel come across like they don't want to be there, but equally others are great. Would definitely recommend!

I'm amazed this place gets such a high rating. Food was average certainly not the best I've had. Service was half hearted, impression from staff was as if on autopilot, making me feel I should not be asking too much.THE WORST BIT, "CLEAN" PLATES CAKED IN BROWN GREASE, visible all round but mainly on the underside of our plates. EVERY plate was the same. I asked for a clean plate, only for it to be half heartedly replaced with one just as bad! as he walked off before I could tell him so.If the restaurant reads this before you visit they may well buck their ideas up. But please check, you will know what I mean instantly. There are indian restaurants better than this and not to far away either. I shall not be going back for a while.
