Absolutely amazing takeaway! As some one that grew up in Hong Kong I was over the moon with the quality and taste of this Chinese takeaway

I’m not usually want to complain, but this was really something. I ordered crispy chilli beef and I understand it should be crispy but this just turned to dust when I cut into it and it tasted like cornflakes.I rang up to complain as it was really not very nice. I was told “ sorry there’s nothing I can do. That’s just how we make it” he said it wasn’t actual strips of beef it was really thin strips to make it crispy…and that there’s nothing that can be done. Well, the was for sure no beef in it, no structure at all to it just like a crisp. So I tried to eat it but I was struggling to swallow it, considering I was hungry, I couldn’t eat it. I called again and queried it and asked to speak to the manager to which he went quiet for 2 mins then came back saying the manager asked me to bring it back to get a refund. So out I went for the second time hoping it would get sorted, but was told I couldn’t get a refund, I had to request it through just eat…so I said can I not just do it in here to get it sorted? He said ‘Yeah sure’ then I waited a few mins and he came back saying ‘Jo we can’t do it here’ so I asked why did I waste more fuel bringing it back then? So he replied ‘Because you didn’t want it’ They didn’t even check it or apologise in anyway…I’m really disappointed, I remember that Chinese always being amazing but seems it’s gone downhill now :(

I’m sorry to say but my food was not nice at all. Firstly the ribs were full of fat and hardly any meat, the vermicelli had no flavour at all but neither did the chicken satay which again was very greasy and full of bamboo shoots rather than chicken. The sweet and sour sauce too lacked flavour and was very congealed. This was so disappointing and feel we will have to try another takeaway in future

I was charged £3.60 for a bottle of tango that clearly has £1,99 on the front from the manufacturer, trade description maybe!?

Our local Chinese, always great food, quick service from ordering to taking it away and great portion size too.

Everything tasted the same.. very salty and bland. I couldn’t make out any flavours. I order in the summer last year and thought the same, nothing had changed.

Absolutely horrible didn’t being bbq sauce asked for and just tasted horrendous even chips were old ! Very very bad experience

The food we had was unedable . The chicken taste like uncooked fish. Would not feed it to my dogs we spent over £50 Very disappointed and wouldn't recommend to my worse enemy

I will never order from this restaurant again, my order never showed up. I spoke to the manager who is rude and admitted my food had been ready for 20 minutes and had no idea what time it would be delivered and it never got delivered, even if it had been delivered the food wouldn’t have been fresh and cold as it had already been sat around for 20 minutes already, avoid this restaurant. Terrible service and rude manager.

First time trying here, and the food was absolutely lovely! Huge portions and all were really tasty generous dishes.

The food itself we couldn't fault it was quite delicious. Unfortunately for such a small order it took over an hour and a half from placing the orde to arrive. Then when they finally delivered they asked me for extra money to cover travel.

Part of my order was cooked incorrectly and I was quite poorly after eating the part that was edible. Normally very pleased with gourmet Chinese but in this occasion not a happy customer.

Food was awful. Had to throw it away. Tasteless rice, sinewy chicken. Chicken balls rubbery. Don't waste your money

The best Chinese takeaway by a distance. The hot hot menu is exceptional and everything we’ve ever ordered has been spot on.

It's hard to find a decent Chinese but this was hot, ready quick and really tasty. 4 adults managed to get a good feast for 60 quid 👍 will defo use again

Over 60 mins late , food cold, contacted just eat and no reply. Ordered from here before delicious food so I think it was down to delivery, called the restaurant they said it left, but still have taken 30 mins from when I called and the driver said he just received it, only 12 min drive away

Worse Chinese meal we've ever had, disgusting had to throw away

We have only recently started using the Gourmet Chinese takeaway due to my dad wanting to try somewhere different and came across the takeaway by chance. We have had several meals now from them and have had an excellent meal each time. They do get very busy at times, so if you wish delivery be early or patient waiting on them answering but better still, we found it very easy and convenient popping into the shop. Please be aware that they are cash only and cash on delivery. Please try. im sure you won't be disappointed

Love your dishes however I always get a bad belly the next day and since seeing your hygiene rating at a 2 I will no longer be ordering from here absolutely gutted because the taste is great

It only took 15 mins from ordering to being delivered! Food was fantastic! Will be ordering again :)

Most food was ok, although the satay chicken was almost inedible.

Never had a bad meal from here but I have to say the salt and pepper squid we had tonight wasn’t great. We always order this dish and it always been phenomenal but tonight it was very chewy and not enjoyable. However it is the only time this has happened ordering from here and it won’t put us off ordering again. Best Chinese food in the area.

Food was Luke warm & very salty. Arrived late. Hardly any chicken in my chicken chow main. Only veg was onion. Other Chinese take always normally have carrots & broccoli in their chow menus. Starter to share was okay.

Really unhappy with my order, which is such a shame because it’s usually my favourite place to order from. It was really late and was cold when it arrived. Was 45 minutes late, didn’t even feel like eating it! The chips were like mush too!

The chips weren’t good. The majority of the chips within the bag had black spots on and lots were tiny and crispy. Such a shame. They were expensive too.

Unfortunately the noodles tasted burnt,the veg and duck were overcooked and the crackers were stale. All lacking flavour. Sorry. Not your best.

All dishes were not up to the usual standard. From the sesame toast to the ribs to the chow mein. Disappointing. Wonder if the place gas changed hands or staff?

Usually brilliant but cold this time, chow mein was just plain noodles. Overpriced.

Average is being generous, not great. Really inconsistent food, must depend on the chef as this was bland and lacked flavour. Previous order was ok.

Ordered a bunch of food and it was all good and cooked, for collection, in 15 minutes. Dinner for two with leftovers for lunch for less than £30. No card machine so bring cash. Would recommend.

Placed an order on Sat21/01/23. First time this year after using Gourmet for a long time. Different person on the phone could hardly understand. Collected and paid in cash as no Card machine. got over £4 in change in 50p's,20p's and 10'p . no other change in till. Got home after 5 mins and food looked awful. The Egg fired rice looked burnt, one meal that was the gourmet special which we have often had hardly any meat ( which was unusual) and very dry. Tried to call to complain but engaged for ages so ate what we could. Learnt later on line they have changed hands and old owners have moved to the Happy house in Elburton Village. Also learnt that their regular driver left after 3 days of new ownership because of complaints from Customers. AVOID at all costs... We Will never use them again.

Regularly order from here and definitely my favourite Chinese in Plymouth, having tried many. My usual order includes the hot and sour soup, a solid spiciness, but excellent balanced flavour. The various ribs are always excellent, but would recommend the Kung po. Sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style is always well cooked and succulent, with the sauce being a good consistency. The salt and chilli chicken is always crispy and has a good kick to the spice. Salt and chilli chips are spectacular and highly recommended. Good curry sauce, which I consider to be difficult to come by in Plymouth. Rarely have issue with delivery and food always arrives hot. Will continue to order from here and look forward to our next order.

Dont use this place me and my partner was off sick for a week plus food was stone cold and over an hour late disgusting!!!we phoned food and hygiene to let them investigate but as i complain to the restaurant they have probably coverd there tracks ! Owner phoned me but was not intrested at all in the fact we had food poisoning from his restaurant and wasn't even offer a refund so instead ive now posted this review on multiple platforms and will continue to let people know not to use this business unless they have so consideration and refund my money back .

Hands down the worst experience of a Chinese takeaway I've ever had in my life. Took 2hrs 20 minutes from my order to come, when the food finally came it was freezing cold, barely cooked and there were even incorrect items. Avoid at all costs

Sad to see the state this premises is in. It is dirty and scruffy inside and out, I hope the kitchen is cleaner! One of the newspapers on the waiting area table was dated Sep 2021! It is now April 2022. The prices have gone up yet again and they asked for an extra 10p for the bag. I said no on principle but they said I would not be able to carry my food without one! The food was underwhelming and not as well prepared as it should have been ( some items hot, some cold, stodgy limp batter, all mixed up and leaking because they hardly fit in the 10p bag, which had been done up so tight I had to cut it open!! Ironic.) The only reason I have given 1 star is that the staff were polite. Sadly, what has been a good business, is not so anymore. I will NEVER go back.

Don't pay cash on delivery, you will be accused of not paying, won't be using this takeaway again .

Ridiculous way to run a business. A Chinese takeaway with no sweet and sour, no noodles what a joke. Awful customer service. Took my order at 2045 phone call at 2200 saying they didn't have anything sweet and sour, 10 mins later another phone call saying we don't have noodles. An hour and half to tell me they don't have what we ordered. Garbage, not using this place again. To top it all all other takeaways are now shut. Fuming.

I ordered a spicy and sour noodles with Hot spicy soup and salt and spicy chips. It’s really good and spicy. It’s hot too. I love it so much. Definitely recommending this Chinese takeaway. Will order next time

Decent Chinese, dishes variable (e.g. sweet and sour sauce often seems to change) but generally reliable quality and so has become our regular Chinese takeaway. Wait time often longer than what you're told when you order.
