Good Friend in Milton Keynes

Took an hour and forty minutes to arrive. It’s a shame, food was good, service was poor. We had missing items and when we phoned up to ask why it was so late we were told that we could have money off next time. There won’t be a next time!

By far THE Best Chinese takeaway in Milton Keynes. The staff are always friendly, the food is always first class, if you use the order for collection as opposed to delivery you can pick up within 10-15 minutes. The only downside we can find is that they don’t deliver to where we live now which is unfortunate, they also aren’t on apps like just eat etc as they have their own in house delivery drivers - if this was sorted it which would push the rating up to a 5* for service but otherwise we absolutely love it, we won’t get Chinese from anywhere else, we’ve tried and they just aren’t nice like the good friend - their curry sauce is also second to none, thick and spicy not like chip shop curry sauce. If you are looking for a new Chinese this is your place!

Loved the food, especially the special chow mein and the chicken starters, delicious taste. The staff are friendly and considerate to customise the spice level. My kids love it and we are regulars for more than 5 years now.

The service sucks, the food tastes reheated

I have been ordering food from The Good Friend for several years. They have always had excellent service both on delivery and collection. Their food is alway fresh and I can say from my experience its the best. The food premises are very clean and staff very helpful.

I go at least once a week that they know my order by heart 😭 very friendly staff and great food!!

Food come hot was all good unto I started eating it the meat wasn't even cooked properly and myself and my partner and two children all had some I definitely well not be going there again

the only way to see whats in set meals is to look at pdf menu. i placed an order by phone only to be charged more than on pdf price list . advised when i called we havent changed prices on pdf site yet not a good enough exscuse when its the only way to see set meals. will not be ordering again .

The food was bland, I don’t know if they just took the fried rice and packed in with the veggies without cooking it first I honestly don’t know. Our food was bland and had no taste, our rice dishes were as white as the cabbage they put inside it coz I know that’s not how special fried rice should be. No seasoning or salt, no soy sauce in every rice dish😩just disappointed because we were hungry and we couldn’t take it back coz they had shut. You guys need to do better we are spending our money it’s not like the food is free.the ribs where too salty we dint even know which one to have.

Only 4 for atmosphere as this is a take away as opposed to restaurant so totally different kind of atmosphere, but that does not detract from the warm, friendly greeting you always get. Have been using this take away for some years and gave no complaints at all! Food is always hot and well cooked, and full of flavour; when we order by phone the total price is always confirmed and the time for collection is always around 20 minutes from placing order, so no long waits. Hopefully we will be using Good Friend for many years to come.

This Chinese should be closed down, absolute disgrace. Worst Chinese in MK by far they used yesterday’s rice, chicken, curry, undercooked, watery and salty chips Had a funny mouldy taste DO NOT BUY FOOD FROM HERE !!!

We ordered food for 5 people. One person could not eat it as it was to spicy, it was marked with one chili only. Our child tried to eat his meal but could not eat it as well as it was by far too spicy as well. Unfortunately he had a small portion of it anyway . He had serious health problems the whole next day from the little portion he had. He was throwing up the whole day and the only reason we couldn't take him to the hospital was that we are flying that day. A senior had your butter prawns and had so badly diarrhea the next day that she had to call for help! What are you thinking when preparing food? You take responsibility over the quality! If I was Not abroad right now I would take further steps! I can only recommend to avoid this place! I would give you minus stars if that would be possible! This is the first review I have ever written but this is also the first food poisoning we had!

The best Chinese food .I've ever eaten at good friend's takeaway. I recommend ordering chicken balls, which are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, singapore rice noodles and lemon chicken, which taste like a secret recipe. I will continue to order food here, the price and quality are very suitable and authentic.

Delivered our food with dishes missing and then took an hour to bring the missing dishes and the order was still wrong. Really rude and unhelpful.

We heard good reviews and portion size for cost but unfortunately this was overly expensive for a local Chinese & we found a horror in our egg fried rice. Satay chicken Satay sauce Egg fried rice Shredded Chilli beef Plain chow mien & chicken balls Came to £38!, definitely not worth the price, as soon as we opened up our rice there was a huge clot of hair tangled with gunk, looked like something you pull from a shower drain🤢 unfortunately we were put off from our food, went to call the next day as it arrived pretty late and I couldn’t be bothered the day off, & it says to call them on the day if any issues, I had a feeling how their website words it they would just try to replace it instead of offer a refund so never bothered.

Absolutely fantastic Chinese takeaway and very underrated. We were recommended this place many years ago and have been coming here ever since, despite trying out most of the other MK Chinese takeaways over the years. There's nothing bad to say about this place, we just hope they don't change anything! One tip though is to go and collect, delivery times can be long but you can usually collect your takeaway in 10-15 minutes if you phone in advance.

Recently the food smells like urine

I'm vegan and was looking forward to the "new vegan menu" advertised. Upon arrival I noticed oyster sauce included and asked about it. The staff member did not understand what "vegan" meant. It appears they have just swapped in meat alternatives and left the recipes the same. I did not go ahead with my order.

My daughter ordered a takeaway for mothers day at 6pm we ordered early as we knew it might be busy. We hadnot received our order an hour later and were told it would be 30 mins.40 mins later we rang again, told food wasn't ready yet and offered us a can of drink and a promise of speedy delivery. 2 hours 20 mins we are still waiting for our food….. If you are thinking of ordering a delivery I would suggest thinking again. Poor service and poorer attitude

We have ordered from this restaurant a number of times in the past, but the quality over the last couple of visits has rapidly declined, with today being the worst ever. We will no longer be ordering from this restaurant ever again. Placed my order online for delivery at 7:25. No sign of any confirmation email or delivery by 8:30. I rang them and was told to 'wait a minute', after 5 minutes of hearing other conversations going on in the background but no response to myself, I hung up. Waited another 20 minutes and rang again. Was once again told to wait. Eventually got to speak to someone who could only hold basic conversation and tell me '10 more minutes'. 25 minutes later our food arrived, with a vague apology of 'we're very busy tonight'. Driver was very polite and it's not his fault but the service from the restaurant was dreadful. No discount offered, full price charged despite being messed about. 2 hours to get food from a restaurant that is a 10 minute drive from my house! No customer service or care. The food itself was fine, pretty standard, but far less enjoyable due to the stress and the fact I am having to eat it at 9:30 at night! I would avoid this restaurant at all costs if you want to be treated with basic decency. So rude!

****Adding this review has deleted my old review from a year ago, ordered near enough the same, and it was fresh and tasty***** Not been here in a while, Ordered Beef Chow Mein, Curry Sauce, House Special Fried Rice, Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings. The beef chow mein, was soggy, not oily but soggy, like more wet.. Salt & pepper chicken wings, looked to be cooked twice, you could peel off the batter, not good, the whole wing with batter had no seasoning, they were plain!... the garnish included the usual, onions, red pepper, garlic, but no further seasoning (just looking at thier menu, I can't see the salt & pepper dish, but why didn't they say this as it was a telephone order). The house rice, was nice... but standard 1 king prawn, would be nice if they added 2 perhaps. All in all very disappointung, 21quid.. 21:30 or before pickup another customer waiting for pickup... Saturday 4th Feb. Didn't have the free crakers, if they were stale, would have been the last straw. Albeit, the meal not good at all, will swerve for year again... big sigh..

If you used to use this place a year ago it was average at best Now I think you have a long way to go to get a better takeaway . Ask for salt n pepper mushrooms they are lushness

Been using this Chinese for 30 years but today will be my last. More time spent on the phone with customers food getting cold. One customers food was left on the counter for 15 minutes before the girl finished on the phone and passed it over. My order was missing the rice, like how can you have chicken curry with no rice. 3 customers left when I was standing waiting all saying the same thing. Find yourself a new Chinese takeaway this one has gone down hill big time

TERRIBLE DELIVERY TIMES....The food is OK, nothing super special just an OK Chinese. The real problem lays when placing an order for delivery. You are told delivery time is 1 hour. Again tonight I found myself calling again after 2 hours to ask where my food was and that it had just left and would be another 20 minutes. So a 2 hours and 20 minute wait. If I were told at the beginning I would NOT have ordered from here. I do want a 2 and a half hour wait for food. There's plenty of other Chinese out there that can manage a delivery....... NOT RECORMENDED

Consistently good food. Always reliable for delicious dishes and we personally love that it isn't too greasy and tastes fresh.

I ordered on line put no confirmation email arrived. I booked a specific time for delivery but it arrived 40 minutes late and not as hot as I would have liked. When I phoned to advise about the delay they seemed too busy to deal with my complaint. The quality of the ribs was questionable. It was either a very old pig or the ribs had been reheated. Either way we couldn't eat them. Fortunately more competition is opening regularly so after many years always ordering from 'The good Friend' I will go elsewhere next time

Just a word of warning for vegans and vegetarians before going to the Good Friend in Furzton. After seeing a post about the Good Friend in Furzton, I decided to go there yesterday. My partner ordered the chicken satay skewers whilst I ordered the vegan chicken satay skewers. Firstly they did not label which one was which and when I called to clarify they said the chicken one was vegan. My partner took a bite and was adamant that was real meat but the woman on the phone was basically shouting at us saying it is vegan. So we drove back to the takeaway with both and she confirmed the one she said was vegan was actually chicken. So if I listened to her on the phone, I would’ve eaten meat. However, I just took it for a human error and didn’t complain. Today, I brought my vegetable pancake rolls to work as a snack and after taking a bite, I can clearly see this is meat. My partner did not order any meat pancake rolls - vegetarian pancake rolls were the only ones on the order. I’m so upset as I’ve never eaten meat before and this takeaway has had two opportunities to give me meat.

Would never return. They messed up our order twice, did not label vegetarian and non-vegetarian food correctly, nor could they identify which was which (leading me to question how many times they have made the same error unnoticed by others). I asked for a full refund, they offered to refund ONLY the incorrect meat order and discount for the future. Who would want to go back there when they cannot even identify which dish is which themselves? Claimed the error was not theirs. Shocking as who else’s error is it? Total lack of customer service or even basic respect or empathy for giving a vegetarian meat. I would absolutely never go back again

Crazy fast service (though relatively quiet as early). Tofu with ginger/spring onion very nice, great balance of fresh ingredients and indulgent sweetness. Mushroom chow mein a bit oily. Not a local, but would order again if I were. Great to have vegetarian choices. Thanks.

Unfortunately I had such a bad experience tonight from this takeaway. I had to wait over an hour for my food and when it turned up it was so bad the lot had to go in the bin. The chips where so hard that I nearly broke my tooth, the spring rolls literally had no filling in them was legit just soggy pastry, the egg fried rice was so dry and as for the chicken chow mein it was old and Rubbery. I phoned up to complain and ask for a full refund as the lot had to go in the bin and all I got was complete attitude and nasty remarks from the lady who was taking the call. Never ever again will I be ordering from this place I’m absolutely disgusted.

These guys are the only Chinese takeaway who do delivery that I will order from. Lovely flavourful authentic Chinese food.

We have ordered meals from the Good Friend over many months. The food always arrives on (or within) the time stated. It is hot and we have never found reason to complain. We will continue to use The Good Friend as the quality is always excellent.

I have been using this takeaway restaurant for many years, however today I am afraid this was my last visit. Using their services probably 3 times a month they consistently take my order (in person) wrongly and when I get home only then find out I have the wrong food. Today I ordered two plates, Singapore rice and Chicken Satay. When I arrived home today I had a plate of food which looked like Egg fried rice with large prawns in it and a chicken dish with a very watery sauce that tasted nothing like a Satay sauce. The service was quick and I only waited about 5 mins for my food, but that's no good if the foods not correct. The taste of the food generally was poor but the quality of the cooked prawns was good all considering. Their hand sanitiser was empty and I could tell they had not wiped down the communal area for a while. Sorry but Unless they change their management And Pay attention to their Orders, It's their loss, Go somewhere else because your spoilt for choice in Milton Keynes.

Visited this place many times in the past and used to have a great guy on the front desk who was brilliant and was good with customers.Now this place has poor customer service workers there talk over you so never understand what is going on or what’s being said. As for the food it’s nothing great got a chicken dish which was more of a horrible vegetable mushroom soup with barely any chicken in and as for a satay chicken dish we ordered it was somehow the spiciest thing ever which made no sense and mustn’t have been right. A long wait although already booked online! Have also had issues here before of booking online and yet they have no idea of the order when you get there too! Will visit other Chinese’s from now on

My brother pulled out wires from his mouth that were in his chow mein and, when we sifted through it, there were more. Looks like it came from a scourer of some sort and, if it did, the bacteria on that would’ve been unbelievable. We still haven’t had a response from Good Friend regarding this, despite contacting them the moment we discovered it.

Been ordering from here for years! Best Singapore rice noodles, original smokey taste from the the wok. Curry sauce is the best! Chicken balls always so moist. Meat is lovely, pancake rolls and to die for. Tried other places....cant beat it! The Good Friend! Thanks 😋😋😋

A bit busy at the moment but always good food

This isn't Chinese food unless your a toddler, or someone elderly who just eats plain food. I ordered chicken chow mein which was just boiled chicken and noodles mixed together in the hot water, not even tossed in a wok no colour not even any soya sauce added let alone any other spices. King prawn fried rice which was just boiled rice and boiled prawns there was nothing fried, and again not even a hint of soya sauce or any other spices just plain and bland. An hour wait for the food plus delivery and service charge, and it turns out that unless you complain on the day about how they clearly now cook they only offer 20% off another order. It's not a terrible place if you like plain boiled food, but if you want Chinese food then this place sadly doesn't cook it anymore and that is what I paid for.

Worst service I've ever received. Food arrived over half an hour late and when I called to complain, ended up in a very heated argument with nothing being resolved. Incredibly unreasonable receptionist that would not listen, would interrupt and talk over anything I said. Steer clear

Still do fantastic food, but dont bother going on Christmas eve. Went last year and waited for almost 2hrs. Thought they would have learnt from last years mistakes but just as bad. Not enough staff, people all over the place waiting, so no way of knowing who had been served and who had not. Ordered over phone, got there 30mins later as requested, then a further 45mins I gave up and asked for a refund. Returned home for a roll instead of chinese. Real shame they dont invest in more staff and have a better system in place.😞

We normally use dragon boat but thought try a different takeaway that’s rated “better”. Made a order for me and my dad 2 egg fried rice 1 beef curry 1 chicken chow mien When finally arrived (1hour and 10 mins) We did receive everything however the rice wasn’t egg fried rice it was salty boiled rice which is funny because no Chinese uses salt in there rice and the beef curry had a weird smell to it like it was off or had some cheese in it. I called up made a complaint and got another order out...again took another hour but the rice was egg fried not salty and chow mien was nice however do not order beef curry from there...sauce is so thick it looks like wet mud lol and tastes awful. Very surprised this is rated better than dragon boat.

The food is absolutely delicious here. I always get the same order: Duck Pancake Rolls, Salt and Pepper Chicken and Chicken & Noodle Soup. The Duck rolls are generously packed with lots of duck, the soup is just yummmm! And the salt and pepper chicken is so flavoursome. I will always use this Chinese now, nowhere else. ♡♡♡

We order from the good friend 3 times a year when we’re working in Milton Keynes, it’s location is convenient to where we stay. Over the past few years it’s been ok, occasionally good. Last Saturday we ordered the beef chop suey which was inedible. The veg could only be described as soft mush, after one taste it went in the bin. After a long day working, we were too tired to return it, in future we’ll use another take away.
