Very average food. The menu promises more than it delivers. Our grilled haddock in garlic butter had to have been frozen as the plate was swimming in water when it arrived. To be fair one of our party enjoyed the steak and pastry pie. My advice is opt for the Shoregate instead if you enjoy good food.

Wasn't expecting a lot as rural Fife has few good eating places, but were pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent, from a very friendly team who gave us a lovely welcome. The Sunday lunch appeared at least part frozen but the lobster was terrific. Well presented with masses of really fresh tomatoes, with the whole lobster neatly dressed accompanied by a large pot of decent size prawns. All clearly fresh. We ate outside in the beer-garden as it was such a hot day. What a great way to enjoy Sunday lunch .

Upon arrival, the hotel was your average typical pub style/ hotel. The entrance is definitely not elderly friendly, and neither are both male and female toilets. The menu was your typical corner pub menu, nothing special. Although it stated the soup of the day was priced at £4.95, and on the wall board, it states soup was seafood chowder. Each bowl had a total of 2 2cm pieces of smoked haddock 3 shrimps, not prawns and around 4 very small pieces of potato. Not knowing what would actually turn up, we decided that with the information provided, we ordered 2 bowls. When we arrived home and read the receipt , not only was the soup lacking in content, but it was more of a clear soup consistency. To add insult to injury, we were charged £10 per bowl when advertised as £4.95. The pensioners steak pie had 4 small chunks of beef. The fish was nice, but unfortunately, the chips were dreadfully dry, which made them practically impossible to swallow. Speaking to two hotel guests, they both stated their meal was very overpriced and standard was very poor. They compared their room as below par and extremely uncomfortable. From our experience, we shall not return a letdown for all.

Centrally located in Crail, the Golf Hotel has a public bar, main restaurant and outside beer garden. The décor in in the main restaurant is quite plain but light and bright. Menu choice is pretty good plus there's specials on the blackboard. As it's Crail, I went with fish and chips which was delicious with fantastic fresh fish. The waffle with ice cream dessert was also good. With the non-alcoholic drinks and coffee it came to about £28, which I thought was reasonable. I'd certainly be happy to east here again.

Been a place to visit for the last few years when we have been in Crail. Lovely beer garden that gets the mid afternoon sun. Bar lunches always tasty and reasonably priced. The bar area itself is fairly small but all staff are attentive. Dog friendly for those that feel the need to take a dog everywhere. A tip don’t sit at the table just inside the bar door in Winter or you will freeze from the draught when the door opens.

Lovely afternoon in Crail, although it was looking rather forlorn. Lots of homes closed up, many looking very tatty. Clearly too many air BNB and holiday homes. The Golf Hotel was very disappointing. We decided to sit in the beer garden, but wanted to see what beers were available. The barmaid was rude. Said 'What do you want?' in a tone that suggested she was busy and wanted to serve us as quickly as possible. One older gent sitting in the bar, not another soul in the place. We bought our beers and carried them out to the beer garden. It was moderately busy. We noticed that there was a lot of food left on the plates of the folks around us 2 plates on a table of 3 were virtually untouched...not a good sign. There was a large, dried bird poo on our table, seagull, I assume. The plant pots were weedy, and untended, there were cigarette ends around, the gates were open to dumpster bins with litter around them. A gate was propped open with a weed filled plant pot. What a sorry sight. Poor service, poor beer garden and what looked like poor food. Avoid it.

Family of 4 visited.... ordered one of the daily specials - salt & chilli squid. There was nothing salt and chilli about it, and it was £15 for 6 or 7 bits of small squid and a salad with no dressing..... Terrible. My husband ordered a chicken goujoun wrap, when it arrived it was chicken goujouns and chips with the same boring salad that came with my squid, no wrap and an extra £4 on top. Kids meals were fine. Service was poor and one of the waitresses quite rude when we asked to order drinks... sent us to a bar, then told us we were at the wrong bar.

There's some pricey restaurants in Crail, so I was pleased to find decent value at the Golf Hotel. For a 3-course dinner and latte coffee I paid about £32, drinks extra of course. They take table reservations by email which is handy. The food, part chosen from the 'specials' board and from the menu was fine although I played it pretty safe with soup of the day, steak pie and a warm brownie. It's a personal preference but I'd have preferred the option of chucky chips rather than thin American style fries. I wasn't kept unduly waiting for food on a Friday night and the service from the waitresses was pleasant although a request for sauce was forgotten about. There's a decent range of drinks available from the (busy) public bar. The dining room is a touch spartan with bare tables and plastic covered chairs arranged for larger groups and families dining; it's not the place for a romantic tête-à-tête. I'd suggest the ambiance could be improved by putting some flowers on the tables, using table mats etc. It wouldn't take much to lift the experience, it's getting close to a staff canteen feel as things are. If you're a holidaymaker in Crail, the Golf Hotel provides decent fare without any pretensions.

Having read a couple of recent reviews I wanted to reassure people that covid measures were very good during our stay. We visited friends in Crail and stayed at the Golf for one night. We saw staff cleaning tables regularly and there were signs advising people not to move when seated. Our details were taken and we saw staff do this with others there. Our room was clean and we had no concerns that we wouldn’t be safe. The shower pressure was pretty bad but it’s an old hotel and we were only staying one night. We’ve experienced worse! We ate at the hotel and the food was fine. Pub grub but big portions and perfectly edible. Breakfast was great. Nicely cooked and presented and again with very good cleaning measures in place. We celebrated a friends birthday while there and were seated in an area with another three tables with people and we all could easily socially distance. We ended up all talking together and drinks were flowing but staff popped in and out of the area to check we continued to socially distance from each other. Staff were excellent. So friendly and professional and they definitely enhanced our stay.

This is an old run-down hotel which serves good typical pub food served by friendly inexperienced staff and managed by a local man who is doing the best he can under very difficult conditions. I guess his star reviews come from those who prefer rough food and basic surroundings. There is no communication between the beer garden staff and the restaurant and that leads to horrendous situations. The bar and dining areas are supported by some stalwart locals and that is commendable but if the Covid test and protect people become aware of the blatant violations which take place (my daughter - in - law was touching shoulders with the next door drinker)they could well be shut down. Regrettably this is the only bar/restaurant in Crail. If they did cease trading it would be worse for the establishment and for those diners who are not quite so fussy. Just not for me. By the way that lavatory seat in the gents has been like that since reopening (needs fixing) and the window looks like a health hazard but maybe that's me being fussy!! Just saying. I hope this helps

The Golf Hotel beer garden is great: you enter at the back, from Tolbooth Wynd; it's spacious; it wasn't full at all; the tables are far apart; the place is very clean. You sit down and someone will come to take your order. Two pints of nicely chilled Shed Head APA and we were happy. No midgies! And it's warm enough outside if you put a fleece / cardie on. I came here for dinner on a Friday night, booked a table for 6 people for 7pm. When we arrived we were seated in the restaurant, we did notice that it was very busy but we weren’t in a rush. We ordered, 2 kids fish and chips, two steak pies, pensioners steak pie and macaroni which took quite a long time to arrive, no apology or warning that there was any sort of delay. We waited patiently and were rewarded when the food came and was delicious. Dessert, however was a different story...From the specials board two of us chose strawberry pavlova we were so disappointed when it arrived and it wasn’t pavlova. What we had was an individual meringue with a scoop of ice cream with some strawberries scattered on top, it was ok but not a pavlova as advertised. Three of the party ordered Apple crumble with custard not sure what crumble there was but nothing was crunchy it had become mush and was a cross between porridge and raw cake mixture completely tasteless and not at all enjoyable. We all tried this refusing to believe that it could be that bad however all agreed it was inedible and a massive disappointment. One of our party had the vanilla cheesecake which was delicious. When the waitress came to clear the table she just a asked if the plates were finished despite the almost full portions of apple ‘crumble’ still intact and when informed that the crumble was not nice she said she would speak to the kitchen. When the bill arrived there was no apology for the length of time the overall meal had taken, no apology for the poor dessert or explanation of the bill. On checking we had only been charged for one of the three Apple crumbles which i was glad of however given that none of us had eaten the equivalent of one pudding from the bowls I’m not sure why we had to pay for any. Needless to say I won’t be rushing back and on looking at the recent reviews it appears the hotel does not take criticism well so doubt there will be any improvement in the near future.

We didn't make a complaint! We then had our starter about 25 mins after we had ordered, fine but then our main course never appeared until 1 hour 20 mins after we ordered. We stopped into the Golf Hotel for some lunch before driving back down to Ayrshire after a lovely weekend in Crail. There was a lovely cosy bar but we sat in the restaurant as there was more seating. The girl who served us was lovely and welcoming but it appeared she was on her own. The service was very slow due to this but we didn't complain as it is understandable. 2 of us ordered burgers and the other 2 ordered the braised beef (special of the day). Firstly, the beef was really tough and not like braised beef at all. It seemed it had not been braised for long enough or the wrong choice of beef was made. Braised beef should fall apart and this was actually difficult to slice. The burgers were just ok, nothing special and really salty. Also, they came in a very dry bun and not a brioche bun as stated on the menu. We asked for cheese on the burgers and I was really disappointed that there was a 'plastic' cheese slice melted on there and not a slice of 'real' cheese. The chips were fine as was the salad.

Fish and chips was OK but the batter wasn't amazing, the tartare sauce was too sweet (homemade would be better) and the chips were average (I'd suggest double frying). Peas should be served as mushy peas. Little things like that make the difference. Can't fault the service as everyone was nice.

The pub/hotel has a restaurant, a lounge, a garden area and a bar. We wanted to eat however we had a dog with us. Dogs are not allowed in the lounge bar or restaurant. It was too cool to eat outside so we went in the bar. Not the ideal place for a nice meal. Very few tables not particularly comfy and we busy/noisy with mainly men who were stood at bar drinking. Just not the right place for a meal. Ironically the lounge bar would have been ideal and wasn’t that busy. The food was average - pub food. I wouldn’t return.

There does not seem to be many places to have a meal in Crail. A local suggested the Golf hotel. We tried it and were very impressed with the fresh seafood. The portions are quite large and after a starter and a main course, we did not have room for a dessert. Well worth a visit if you are hungry in Crail.

Very disappointed with the snacks we had. My daughter had the cheese and ham sandwich, cheap white bread and presentation could have better with all three meals. I had tuna mayo toastie and didn't like it. More mayo than tuna and tasted very cheap and slimy. Chips were not of good quality. The few salad leaves and half a cherry tomato could have been left off the plates. My grandson had a ham and cheese toastie which he ate because he was hungry and as I had paid he didn't want to waste too much. Better quality and good presentation would have made such a difference and happy to pay more. Couldn't fault the cider, draught, tasty and cold. A lot of flies going about that were a nuisance and a fire door for getting on to beer garden banged shut each time people came in and out. I don't think I would go back. I doubt if the place is suitable for disabled.

Excellent food and service. Food was plentiful and waiting staff couldn't be more helpful. We both asked for slight alterations to menu, these were readily agreed. Plenty of on street parking in this rather nice village.

In Crail with six friends for a golf vacation, the Golf Hotel was a great stop for drinking (no driving...centrally located) and eating. It was so convenient that we ended up going there for multiple meals and multiple drinks...one of my friends went back for drinks almost every night. The staff was very friendly, even though we could get a little loud.

We just went for a drink in the Golf Hotel but the friendly welcome we received every night was fantastic. The landlady knows how to keep the real ale well and kept a steady choice of three ales on the bar.

We visited several times during the Easter weekend. We had great food - fresh dressed crab and home made pate for example. They were happy to cater for gluten free diets. And what a lovely atmosphere - lovely big open fire and cosy corners for family games of cards! Thank you

Went for steak night but extremely disappointed. Asked for medium steak but was more rare.Few soggy chips, hard peas and two underdone soggy onion rings. No salad as advertsed. Food was also cold. Asked for a prosecco and was told had no cold ones . Was given small one off top shelf behind bar but when I opened it it was completely flat and very yellow so I think it must have been on the shelf a long while! Lady opened big bottle which again came from top shelf so was not cold but was bubbly. Can't believe there was no bottles in wine fridge. Sticky toffee pudding was good though. Seeing as there was just one other couple in the restaurant there really was no excuse for steak meal being so poor as kitchen not rushed. Won't be rushing back!!!

Great location on the Old Course. Beautiful modern terrace on the top floor with stunning views across the fairways to the sea. So wanted to like this place but were disappointed. Food was standard golfing fare - steaks and lobster - OK but nothing special . Wine list reasonable for price and choice. What lets the place down is the lack of management oversight. Tables with broken legs, jet lagged golfers asleep in the lobby, incredibly noisy ambience all overseen by a well meaning but overwhelmed serving staff. Not what you expect when paying $400 for a meal for two. Dinner took three and a half hours. We had to track down staff to order wine, coffee and get the check. Could be a good dining alternative to the Old Course Hotel but its let down badly by the service. Seems its owned by one of those absentee investment companies and it shows .

Had afternoon Tea today(Sunday). The view is stunning, overlooking the golf course and the Forth. We had to wait around 10 minutes and received 4 types of sandwiches, a plain scone and fruit scone and a variety of cakes. The scones were some of the best I’ve ever had- warm from the oven, the cakes were light. We received a bottle of water and large pot of tea but had to ask for glasses. The toilets were a bit more dated than the restaurant but clean

Arranged to meet friends here for a lunch and a catch up. This is a very popular visit with very pleasant surroundings through a very large conservatory contributing to a very well lit area. There are a number of tables within the conservatory and your extensive menu is on the table. There are hot and cold food choices ordered at the server and brought to your table. We opted for chicken and rice soup and tomato and vegetable soup. To accompany the soup we ordered cheese and onion toasties and cheese and ham. We had carrot cake put aside for later that was the last of it. The chicken soup had a distinct homemade stock flavour with generous amounts of chicken through the rice and veg. The toasties came with crisps and side salad and coleslaw on the side. They were very well cooked with a generous filling. Finally the piece de resistance the home baking carrot cake came bursting with flavour very moist and topped with a very sweet icing. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone and will definitely be back.
