Having just moved to the area, we decided to try our new local Chinese takeaway rather than drive the 3 miles back to where we used to go. However, in future I will get to n the car and drive. We ordered the set meal for 2 and an extra portion of BBQ spare ribs. I can honestly say that this was the worst Chinese meal I can remember. It was so bland and tasteless and reminded me of a Chinese meal from the 1980’s. I don’t normally review places, but having read some of the reviews on here prior to ordering; I felt I had to let people know my feelings.

Been coming to this place for 25 years on and off when working in Rochdale. Best value lunch time menu for the surrounding area. Lovely Chinese food and great prices. Try the salt and pepper chips with chicken curry, superb.

We ordered a variety of things. And every single one was VILE!!! food was tasteless, and slimy in parts. Went straight in the bin was scared of getting ill. I even felt sorry for my bin... waste of money.. don't bother

Ok we have had a fair few chippy teas from here since moving to the area, and they have always been fantastic, so we decided a few weeks ago to try the Chinese food, and it was very nice indeed. On the back of that we tried it again last night, and wow what a disappointment it was, don't get me wrong there was nothing wrong with the portion sizes and it was cooked well and piping hot, however I am not sure if it was because the takeaway was so busy last night, but food was tasteless and really bland, I had the House special fried rice and apart from the drizzle of sweet and sour sauce over the top of it, it tasted of just plain boiled rice, even the meat was bland. My wife had a Beef chow mein with crispy noodles and hers was also very bland and tasteless. We will carry on using the chippy for chippy teas, but as for the Chinese food it will be a while before we use it for that again.

Ordered last night for the first time and was very impressed with the food taste, quality and service im a little funny when eating from some Chinese but this one is 5 star standard hats off to you guys will definitely be back!

Salt n pepper chicken wings are 10/10 .. there is plenty offers an kids menu is awesome.. feed 6 kids for £10.. easy.

Curries are really nice, especially the salt and pepper ribs, king prawns.

*New updated review at the bottom 28/02/2020* Today, 21/01/2018, came to visit Rochdale and being Chinese, I love eating all kinds of cuisines but decided to have Chinese takeaway. I googled Chinese takeaway nearby where I am staying for a night and I checked out Golden Wok because of the star rating and good reviews. So I walked 20 minutes from my hotel pasting by other Chinese takeaways and other takeaways. So I ordered salt & pepper chicken wings, crispy spring rolls & chicken chow mein with fine noodles. The food was lovely especially the chicken wings. As a chef, I worked for my parents when they had a Chinese takeaway and a Chinese restaurant around Preston area before they retired, I am fussy when it comes to food and want food to be perfection. I would recommend Golden Wok on Manchester Road, because the food is good and the staff are very friendly and helpful... **Edited for an update 28/02/202, Thanks for reading my review from the owner. However after few months I went back with my sister and friend because I recommend it to them, so we travelled 45 minutes as we live in Preston area. We ordered 3 portions of salt and pepper chicken wings and salt and pepper chips. We ate it in the car just outside of the takeaway. We were disappointed with the food that time because the food was very salty and the chicken wings could taste the frozen taste. Maybe the chef at the time cooked all 3 portions of chicken wings at the same time and the salt and pepper seasoning went over board on it

I have posted a picture of the frdge front of house the meat pies are directly on the shelf and the bottom of the fridge is full of mold were the spores can infect the food and the cans that you drink and the seal aroung the fridge is filthy this will affect the effectivness of the fridge and because they are storing food in the drink fridge there is no thermometer and no dates on the food poorly stored if they can show such poor hygiene in front of house what could it be like in the back of house _ clearly signs everywere of a lack of cleanliness and respect for the paying customer

Unfortunately I had to give this a low rating as I didn't rate this place at all, I ordered salt and pepper chips witch a sweet and sour chicken and rice, the salt and pepper chips tasted like the chips were re heated and wasn't salt and pepper at all, the sweet and sour chicken didn't have much chicken and was over powered with veg and the rice well iv had better tasting microwave rice to be honest, am sure others may have better reviews than me as we all have different tastes so don't be put off by my review and go try for yourself,

I order from here at least on a weekly basis and the food has always been great, especially the curry. I am very wary of where I eat due to my crohns but this place I trust 100%. The staff are very friendly and the place is always clean. Laura.😉

The staff in golden wok is lovely. However, sometimes customers need to wait for food, especially when it’s busy. Everyone wants fresh chips and hot food; therefore when you have to wait it’s normal for customers to get annoyed and distressed. Personally, I think the shop has potential to improve but not to the extent where everything is changed to suit someone’s wanted needs. Thank you! :)

Love this place and everyone who works there food and everything, one member of staff lets you down. Lady that was working tonight monday 14th may is rude and lacks basic customer service skills will not be visting when shes working again.

This is a great little Chippy on Manchester Road in Castleton. Parking can be a bit difficult on the main road but it worth finding a space because the food is excellent. Mushroom Foo Yung is very tasty, as are the Veggie spring rolls. Well worth a visit when you cant be bothered cooking for yourself!..
