The best Chinese in pontypool and cwmbran. can't fault this takeaway having eaten Chinese food for many years from lots of restaurants this place tops them all.

Ordered at 6.50pm Sat 18th May, and order turned up at 9.40pm! Got through after 30mins of trying to contact them to check where order was at 8.45pm to be told it was on its way...still didn't arrive, rang them again...they hadn't turned the printer on and order wasn't received. Really?!!! Will never order from here again. Customer service diabolical. Blatant lies about delivery on its way and it was very difficult to sort problem out as their phone always off hook. Never had an experience like it from any type of take away. Avoid of you are hungry!!!

Always fantastic food, piping hot and always delicious. The staff are always friendly over the phone, in store and the delivery drivers when dropping food off. Have always been helpful in making any changes to dishes if requested. Highly recommended!

Very disappointed with food my kung po beef was horrible it was like the beef was cooked days ago, the chips were hard the food wasn't even boiling the only thing I liked was curry sauce and prawn crackers even chicken balls weren't fresh won't be using again

Food is nice but really frustrating to order over the phone, then upon arriving to collect to then be told that they don’t take card payments for collection. I wonder why?

AVOID!!! Delivered the wrong food, refused to add fresh chips even though it was there mess up. Absolutely disgusting attitude on the delivery driver. Asked him to leave the property and refused.

Made an online order, food was extremely late, the order was incorrect, called dozens of times but no connection,the food heat and packaging was sufficient, not the tastiest we have ever had, a bit lacklustre sadly. And the current prices are getting that the value is not worth having takeouts…. Won’t rush to order from here again.

Food arrived 30 mins earlier than expected (ordered as they opened) and as they didn't have a coke can, they upgraded us to a coke bottle! Vegetarian options are poorly labelled in the just eat app, but better than some other local chinese takeaways.

Best Chinese we have had. We have lived in various places across the UK over the last 12 years, we love Chinese food, and The Golden Star is by far the best we have had and converted family and friends to go there - definitely recommend.

Easy pickup and service with consistently brilliant food. The roast salt and chilli prawns are some of the best we've ever had, the black bean mixed vegetables are a dish we'd have over and over again and the duck is always excellent. Highly recommended, our go-to Chinese in the area. Never had any problems.

Would never order again first time ordering the meat was hard in the special fried rice. The chips were hard everything was over cooked not happy with food at all

Having been locked down for so long we decided to order a takeaway from The Golden Star, we were not disappointed. The service and the food was excellent, we will certainly be ordering again. Many many thanks.

We have always had great food from the Golden Star, and quick deliveries when we have ordered online. The prices are slightly inflated online, but this is the same for all takeaways now.

Absolutely disgusting food called in with fast Eddie and got crispy Duck and pancakes with salt and pepper chicken and chips, the chicken bounced like a powerball down the street, chips are raw and hard. The duck Jesus. Hirst it’s still quacking. Stay away from this place where the chef is obviously learning from a early learning book.

We ordered online and was estimated a 45-60 minute wait. We Waited 2.5 hours for average albeit hot food. We could not get through on the phone line to find out what was happening with our order it said busy all the time. Went there after 2.5 hours only to be told that it had just left with the delivery and they said sorry. Was given no explanation as to why it’s taken 2.5 hours for a chow mien, chips and fried rice. We understand about ordered in front of ours and we wouldn’t say so much if not for the fact there was a huge lack of communication and false waiting times issued.

The last three times we’ve ordered as a family they have always left something off and come up with some excuse but if you order off just eat they seem to get it right strange

First order from here. Delivered at least twenty minutes earlier than original time. Start with the negatives which are the chips. Poor quality. Don't get a large as not needed. Beef chow mein was spot on with a good level of meat and nice noodles. Singapore fried rice wasn't very spicy but good consistency. Top quality prawn crackers. Overall this has a good quality level of food.

Never had a bad meal from here, lovely tasting freshly cooked with excellent delivery times more often of not earlier than time give, only downside is that if you order online you have to pay by card as their isn’t a cash option and if your rush or have a houseful. I have used this takeaway for 5years+

Order from here on a regular basis, and can honestly say that we've never had a bad meal. Food always arrives hot, and there's always plenty of it. Great value for money.

The food was too early I set a time as we were ecpecting guests who were on time and cooking supporting elements to the meal. The chicken balls were undercooked for the 3rd tine now so were stodgy and doughy. The chicken fried rice was nice.

Chicken wings Peaking sauce was ordered, but never arrived, chicken noodles were delivered! ....food quality was poor & unfortunately the meal was thrown away, Having looked forward to the Chinese meal we were left bitterly disappointed £34.10 now seems a waste of money, I've now put the food in the food recycling waste 😞

food was lovely and hot, my one small gripe was that in the King prawn with Ginger and Spring onion the contents seemed to be made up of a large amount of normal onions. which is not even in the name of the dish. hence most of the dish was left uneaten.

In all time's we have had food from the golden star and that alot we have always had good 5star food But last night was the worst food we have had mine way vary vary salty and the wife was bland vary little taste hopefully it is a one off so will try again but it will be a last chance

Fantastic food, hot and delicious. Sadly they didn't deliver the bottle of diet-coke that we also ordered. After a brief discussion they did send out another delivery which arrived 20mins later, although this was full-fat coke, not Diet Coke. Still, we've used them before and I'm confident it was a one off and just 'one-of-those-things' that must sometimes happen on a busy Saturday evening. As mentioned, the food was delicious and we will use them again.

I ordered from here as my usual Chinese was closed. My partner and daughter preferred this takeaway, but I preferred my usual Lee's Kitchen! Just a matter of preference that's all...

Arrived an hour earlier than the time confirmed. 2 rice meals were sticky and stodgy and lacking seasoning to taste. The food did arrive hot.

Don't bother ordering through just eat as they don't deliver. No contact made from the restaurant I phoned them to enquire where my food was as they were 15 mins late, to be told they haven't even started to cook it. Lousy service

Very disappointed! The noodles in the chow mein were mushy and it had very little chicken in it. The chicken in the curry was soft and mushy with no texture. We threw most of it away!

Ordered quite a large order as my sons were home from university. Food was virtually on time and was very hot. All dishes were tasty, full of meat and vegetables, rice and noodles good and fortune crackers are a nice touch.

Ordered a House Special Chow Mein & asked for no onions but they ignored the notes and put onions in. The Chow Mein was also mushy. We also ordered chips, they were hard and dry, they did not taste fresh. The spare ribs were very nice and so was the fried rice. Probably won't order from here again

Have now had both deliveries and restaurant service and they have both been excellent.

We have several take away meals from the restaurant on several occasions and have found the food most palletteable

Best Chicken chow Mein we've ever had. Just wish there was more chicken. Prefer to not have the prawn crackers & veg samosas.
