Golden Pagoda in City of London, Westminster

Dim sums is afternoon tea food, so the tripadvisor categories are wrong. Go there between 3-5pm, not for lunch, not for evening meals! I have lived in London for decades and I am a regular of Gerard Street and of the restaurants around it. Lotus Garden is my latest dim sums place. I have returned regularly since covid, either as couples or with family and friends. The dim sums are served piping hot. The filling is generous. They are delicious and are among the best in town. I chose number 1,2,3 they are the classic. Then the lotus wrapped glutinous rice and some cheung fun. All come in the bamboo baskets. The Vietnamese fried spring roll is good too. So is the roast duck (no need for rice or noodles if the lotus wrapped glutinous rice is ordered. About 3 per person. Add a fried noddles if you have teenagers. All vegetables dishes in Chinese restaurant are priced quite high, to be shared, not one per person! The secret? The first floor. In hot weather the first floor is A/C. It is quieter, and you will find the Chinese, East/SEA Asians and Londoners and their families there. During the Lunar festivities the Lion dance is best seen from the first floor. It is old fashion, but the price is also more affordable than elsewhere. I have always found the staff diligent and nice. The food has been particularly good in the past two months. Not a good place for vegan or even vegetarian food, although the fried noodles is good. Chinese restaurants serve mainly food with seafood or meat. It is an ordinary place, not a posh one.

Dinner in chinatown, well tasting and decent pricing given that it is London. Nothing spectacular but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

The waiters are nice and friendly, the traditional Chinese dishes and dim sum are excellent! The price was pretty good too.

Dim sum starter, 2 main courses and a chicken fried rice with 2 beers was £89. It wasn't worth that as the food was mediocre at best. The chicken in the fried rice was on the bone. Pity really as we had a vast choice of restaurants to go to in the area.

excellent position - right in the middle of China town. Lunch included duck with pancakes. The duck was a bit dry. The chicken, garlic and spring onions was tasty. The service was a bit slow and the staff could have been a bit more attentive. £50 including tip and a good pot of green tea.

This place is amazing as it offers a huge range of freshly made dishes. Each time we're going, we order a lot of steam cook food and the crispy duck, so delicious. There is always a lot of Chinese people eating there which is proof that the food is worth it. I agree that waiters may seem a bit "rude" but the place is so busy that they run all the time. Be kind with them, I think they're doing a very stressful job. I would recommend the place to anyone wanting to enjoy proper Chinese food in the center of Chinatown.

What a dump, dirty overpriced and measly portions of mediocre food- don’t bother! We paid 85 quid for a two person set meal with two drinks, portions were too small and the soup was like dirty dish water warmed up 🤢 Only one m&f toilet which were mingin oh yes and we paid 3.50 for a can of Diet Coke with a straw in- we did even get a glass!

Excellent! Went back thrice on our short trip to london because the dim sum and duck was so good! Recommend the steamed spare ribs, crispy taro dumplings, Cheung fun and siu mai.

Authentic Cantonese cuisine, a rare find. Had dim sum here and it reminded me of being in Hong Kong. Their beef rice rolls were devine..texture so smooth! Their fried rice just not too greasy. And their crab dumplings one of the best I’ve eaten..very similar...

They should not let you go in and order if they are closing. They bring your food, they charge you right away and they tell you they are closing in five minutes. Really bad service!

Popped in during during a two hour gap between theatre shows having been in before. It’s ok. Nothing particularly special but we’ve never had a bad meal in here and it’s normally easier to get a table.

We always come back to this place. I don't care for the service, which was never unpleasant FYI, the food is always great. Over a decade later, with many new businesses coming and going, Lotus garden is still one of my frequent visit.

Me and my friends decided to chill out for a little while in the Chinatown. So, we visited the Lotus Garden and ordered deep fried custard buns with a kettle of Jasmine tea. Our snack visit was fairly enjoyable.

Mi compañero y yo decidimos cenar en casa ya que estábamos deseando comida china. Nos llevaron a nuestros asientos y, a partir de entonces, nos indicaron cómo hacer un pedido en una hoja de papel. Luego, el personal tomó nuestros pedidos. Después de un tiempo, un miembro del personal se me acercó y me dijo que mi pedido ya no estaba disponible y que podía elegir otra cosa. Como tenía hambre, pedí todo lo que me sugirió. Luego, después de unos minutos, regresó diciendo que todavía les quedaba uno para mi pedido anterior y le dije que estaba bien y que estaba muy agradecido que se fue. Después de 15 minutos, una chica del personal se acercó a nosotros dándonos una orden diferente y ni siquiera dijo una palabra. Sin disculpas ni siquiera contacto visual. Después de otros 15 minutos, otro miembro del personal vino a una mesa diferente con nuestro pedido y tuvimos que decirles que ese era nuestro pedido. Nuevamente, no hay disculpas del personal. Tenemos dos pedidos más que estamos esperando. Decidimos comer lo que tenemos ya que tarda mucho en llegar nuestro pedido. Después de 10 minutos nuestro pedido fue servido en otra mesa y dijimos que era nuestro pedido nuevamente. No pudimos entender lo que estaba diciendo, pero nos pareció grosero cuando dijimos que nuestro pedido estaba claramente en una hoja de papel sobre nuestra mesa y que lo llevó a otra mesa. Claramente, el personal se confundió acerca de quién es el pedido. Pero dijo con sus palabras exactas "por eso le pregunto si este es su pedido". El punto era que nuestros pedidos se enumeran en una hoja de papel sujeta con un clip en nuestra mesa para que sepan qué son los pedidos. No se disculpó, sino que fue grosero con nosotros.La horrible experiencia en este restaurante no termina ahí. Me queda 1 pedido más sin atender y ha pasado 1 hora y 15 minutos desde que hicimos el pedido. Me acerqué al personal amablemente, seguí mi pedido que estaba esperando por un tiempo de vez en cuando dijo que había sido cancelado. No fui informado de esto. No esperaba nada. Si no hubiera seguido, estaría esperando allí aún más. ¡Al final, nos dieron una factura con un CARGO DE SERVICIO! ¿Qué tipo de servicio fue ese? Pagamos de todos modos, pero de nuevo esperaba disculpas ya que tuvimos una experiencia horrible en este restaurante, pero todo el personal no es nada amable y grosero con nosotros. Estaba emocionado de comer comida china, pero este restaurante me hizo muy mal el día. Espero que no le haga esto a otras personas, ya que no es algo muy agradable de recordar.

El personal no es muy acogedor, no entiende bien el inglés. Recibí un pedido incorrecto para mí y no se impresionaron demasiado cuando lo señalé. Cobrar por un plato de fideos sencillos y costosos. Nadie dijo gracias o adiós. No volvería a ir allí de nuevo.

We where seated by someone just pointing to our table and then our order was taken, food took a while to arrive on the table and when it did parts of our meal where missing we asked if they where coming out with the rest and was told it’s on its way after being told this there was a lot of shouting from the waiter to the kitchen (guessing wasn’t put through correctly) after another 10 to 15mins the missing food was served. Some of the food was good but other parts were bland and couldn’t taste much from them we asked about it and it was clear they didn’t understand what was wrong. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all the service was terrible and the food not much better. I wouldn’t have paid the 10% service charge or the meal price if I knew it was going to be that bad. Could have ordered from my local Chinese take away and had a better meal.

Went with my 2 children as my daughter had recommended the Kai lan dish. My chicken dish tasted very odd, I’m sure it had been reheated. Wanted it to be special as I don’t often get the chance to be with my children but we were put on the 2nd floor in a corner next to the fridge and washing up area where they clashed the dishes every few minutes. Staff rude, and dishes all came at different times, with mine last and steaming fresh from the microwave.

Dopo esserci sedute, servizio molto veloce, poco attento e inglese non buono, abbiamo aperto il menu. LO SGOMENTO! Ho chiesto se fossero porzioni per 3, altrimenti non si spiegava! Accanto a noi una famiglia di 6Persone si è seduta e dopo aver aperto il menu, se ne sono andati subito. Io e mia figlia abbiamo optato per un involtino 4 pz e un piatto di noodles vegetariani, (in tutto 23£) niente da bere, acqua naturale 5.50 £, per dire. La qualità del cibo era sufficiente. Niente biscotto della fortuna. Avanti il prossimo.

Called in here as we, as a 4, were in London for the day to sightsee and take on the Christmas Lights - and Chinatown.We were feeing quite confident about the Restaraunt from the outside as the first three tables were Chinese family’s and if the Chinese like the Chinese then we felt it must be good?Met at the door my a very pleasant man who agrees there is a table upstairs for four.From the outset we must say we all had different starters and main course and all the food was very tasty and very hot and well worth the very reasonable cost.Where the Restaraunt lets itself down is with its service. Each potion is delivered in a piecemeal fashion and then almost thrown on the table without explanation – fortunately we can tell the difference between Beef and Chicken. However, the Dim Sum never arrived and the times between the main courses in this piecemeal delivery meant the first was almost finished by the time the fourth arrived. In leaving the we got so bored waiting to pay – at an empty table – we actually went to the bar to pay and surely a simple “thank you” for a £ 100.00 lunch could have been forthcoming.For the food we would return in a heartbeat – for the service I would rightly visit anyone of the other Chinatown restaurants surrounding this one.

The same old story as with most of the mass market Chinatown eateries.Great fun as a large group, atmosphere ok but food is, frankly, mediocre at best. Set meal for 28£ for a group of 6. Starters not edible as still frozen in the middle of the ribs, prawn toast soggy and pale. New platter brought out but then so closely followed by crispy duck that it became an eating race. You guessed it, mains arrived before duck eaten. I won’t make you I’ll but go way further afield for quality fodder.

Fui ayer después del teatro. No he estado en un restaurante chino durante años. El pie tardó años en llegar a pesar de que había varias mesas vacías. Cargaron 8. 40 por un arroz grande! No lo podía creer. Los platos principales estaban bien. Mientras comía la camarera se llevaban platos! Mi esposa y yo la miramos con consternación y pedimos que los platos permanecieran ya que todavía estábamos comiendo. Servicio realmente increíble. Ciertamente no recomendado.

It was a good half hour after the order was placed that our food was delivered, and it was Luke- warm, considering it was a cold day. The waiters were far from friendly, which to my mind is of the essence in the restaurant business.

Abbiamo scelto questo ristorante tra i tanti in zona. Appena entrati ci viene consegnato un foglio con su scritto il numero del tavolo che dovevamo trovare autonomamente in un ristorante di ben 3 piani. Ci sediamo e notiamo subito la pessima igiene di piatti, posate e bacchette. Il cibo in se aveva una pessima qualità degli ingredienti di base, i camerieri parlavano a stento inglese ed in tutto ciò abbiamo anche pagato una cifra considerevole. Lo sconsiglio assolutamente.

I wish I had read the tripadvisor reviews before sitting down in this place. Terrible is an understatement. A 4 year old could run this place better. I’ve spent many nights in chinatown and been to many a great restaurant around these parts. The Lotus Garden is definitely not one of these. The service was horrendous, none of the servers spoke a word to us the entire time we were there (which should have rang alarm bells). They didn’t even look at us when clearing plates! Dishes were simply dumped on the table and removed by lacklustre workers. I witnessed the table behind us ask for their second course for 35 minutes, each waiter claimed that the food was being prepared but it took nearly 40 minutes to materialise. If the place was full this might have been understandable but only 2 tables were being used upstairs. The food was less than average; greasy, cold and flavourless. Noodles were dry, chicken was so overcooked that it was chewy. This place is not cheap either at nearly £60 for a couple including soft drinks. Just a word of warning - you can find much better only minutes away. Massive regret coming here, evening turned sour due to this place. Will never be returning and I recommend others don’t even entertain the thought.

Not bad restaurant on the corner of China Town. Decent menu. A few vegan options which was good to see. Was late and busy so was never going to be the best service but was good enough. Food was nice enough.

We had a very nice set menu for four here tonight. Reasonable value at £23pp, but the cheapest house wine was £22 a bottle... come on! And the waiting staff.... they looked like they’d an appointment with Judge Dread in the morning. Not a single smile or thank you. Come on guys, you’re taking £170 of our money, at least appear grateful for it.

We always visit this restaurant while in London but unfortunately this time it’s was dreadful. We ordered our food and drink, one starter was a prawn dish and they brought a chicken dish. Then as my husband was finishing his starter a waiter whipped his plate away without even asking if he had finished. The food was edible but not the standards we have had on prior visits it felt as if we were being rushed constantly. Our mains were missing dishes which we had to ask for, we noticed others had this problem aswell, when we had finished our meal the waiter was removing the used plates and dropped leftover food all over the tablecloth and left, a definite drop in standards at this restaurant and we won’t be visiting again

My mum and I visited the other week after a day out. We’ve eaten in china town plenty of times and we decided to try somewhere new. We were not disappointed. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. The food came out super quick and nice and hot. We were served by Ken such a nice and attentive person he is a credit to the team. We had the chicken sweet corn soup spring rolls prawn toast. Vegetable noodles sweet and sour chicken. Chicken with ginger and spring onions and egg fried rice. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and we will be back. Thank you for a great time.

Highly recommend this restaurant. We were a large group of eight for an early dinner. We were seated and drink orders were taken immediately. After receiving our drinks, our orders were taken for starters and main course. We received starters within 15min and our mains not long after. Large portions of food. All the food was excellent quality and flavor. Restaurant was full, with no empty tables when we left. A good sign that this restaurant is popular.

The stars are only for the food, which was pretty good. We visited pre theatre so appreciated the prompt service. Restaurant was grubby, service not really very friendly, plates cleared while my husband was still eating. Worst of all was the bill that was plonked (not requested) on our table, as the last main dish was taken away! No offer of desserts or additional drinks, especially as we still had a third of a bottle of wine to drink, which we did at a leisurely pace. People at the adjacent table had missing dishes, no offer of apology from the staff.... Would not return and would not recommend.

We were seated upstairs and alarm bells rang when we saw the stairs were grubby. Prawn crackers were scooped out of a container sat next to an overflowing open bin. Walked to the toilet and passed basins full of dirty dishes, still with leftover food in them. Waiters never cracked a smile, miserable lot. They had the cheek to add on 10% to our bill for service. They didn’t remove our dirty plates when we were finished eating. And on top of that, food was disappointing. We will not be back

Very nice Chinatown restaurant. Food is of very good quality and quite authentic. Service is prompt and attentive. You may have to wait for a table, but not for long.

Entramos buscando los dumplings, la verdad es que fue un poco decepcionante, algo de culpa por nuestra parte al no saber exactamente lo que pedimos, una manera un poco peculiar de coger. Ira por parte de los camareros, servicio rápido comida regular.

野菜蝦蒸餃子は、絶品。大根餅は、普通。紅油抄手は4個入りですが、風味が不足、ワンタンの皮も厚いので、この店では頼まないほうがいいです。蓮葉糯米鶏は2つ入り。具は少なめ。このあたりの他のお店と違って、お茶をどうするか聞かれて、普?茶を頼むとちゃんとでてきたのは、よかったです。他の多くのお店はお茶を頼むと、何も聞かずに茉莉茶が出てくるのですが。お店の人は、普通話ではなく、広東話を使っていたので、香港、広州系統なのでしょう。

Been to this restaurant on several occasions in the past. with the closure of ‘The New World’ in Gerrard Place which I used over many years. My visit was at 5.00pm last Sat 20/09/19. No problem in getting in and direction to a table for both of us ??? (No problem..Alarm bells start ringing in my mind!) The staff were cold,the starters were cold and the set meal was tough and rubbish. Couldn’t wait to exit after some 30 mins at the most. Will NOT be going back ever.....

Je ne dis pas que la nourriture est mauvaise, mais le service est déplorable... on nous installe, on commande un apéritif, un menu (soupe, entrée et plat consistent) ainsi qu'une bouteille de vin. L'apéritif arrive quasiment aussitôt, suivi une minute après par le vin, la soupe et avant même qu'on ait terminé la soupe (je venais à peine de la commencer), l'entrée est arrivée. Toutes les 3 minutes un serveur vient voir où en sont les assiettes. A peine terminé, la table est débarrassée et le plat consistent arrive. Là encore on est surveillé de près par un garçon, au taquet pour débarrasser la table dès la dernière bouchée engloutie (et même avant...) Mon fils désirait un dessert, que je comptais demander dès que le serveur allait revenir... Le serveur est effectivement revenu mais avec l'addition. Bref, un manque de respect total pour le client, on est juste un numéro, juste bon à manger, dépenser notre argent et laisser la place pour les suivants. Je laisse 2 étoiles parce que la nourriture était correcte sans être excellente.

EVITER ce restaurant, c'est une arnaque à touristes!

We went in and got seated straight away, the food was really good and the service was quick. We literally had the whole meal on the table in 10mins.

Good food, but over priced.Dim Sun prices more reasonable,but only served to 5 00pm. £22+10% service for house wine a little over the top!

Muy recomendable rápido en acomodarnos a un grupo grande, la carta es muy amplia y muchos platos vienen con su foto para hacerte una idea, una vez elegidos los platos identificados por numerosos, sirven muy rápido te llenan la mesa en un momento.El precio esta bien.

The dim sum dishes were had were as good as any I’ve had but was very disappointed with the rice and noodle dishes that we had ordered.
