This review is regarding the Thai food takeaway, not the in-house service or drinks. First of all, the menu online does not accurately reflect the true prices of the meals! They are about £2 more expensive than it says online. Second, they made a mistake and gave us the wrong starter that three of us had ordered. The calamari was not great. I can forgive a wrong starter if it wasn’t for the incorrect prices. Regarding my order, the Tamarind duck was nice enough but very watery. However, my family said the noodle dishes were very nice so a mixed bag overall, they just need to update their prices and get the order right.

Really good Thai food at good prices. We’ve been a couple of times and it’s always packed out which shows how popular it is with locals and the surrounding area. Great atmosphere too. Thoroughly recommend!

We had a delicious meal this evening at the Golden Fleece. The welcome as we arrived was warm and friendly and the beer selection was good too. We chose the select meal for two and were not disappointed. Delicious dips accompanied a platter of tasty starters and the main dishes were absolutely mouth watering. Highly recommended

Went there to celebrate my 70th birthday with family and friends everyone was very happy and impressed by the food and service.we will be going back there more regularly as it’s a great place to eat with a great atmosphere.

Had a Thai take away from the Fleece last night and it was really poor. Ingredients not fresh, food beige and bland, lacking in flavour. 60 for two starters, two mains and pad Thai. Enjoyed previous take away so this was a huge disappointment and won’t be going back

I have been eating here for several years .it is the best combination of a pub and restaurant.you get good draught beer and excellent Thai food .never had an bad experience here all dishes have a different flavour and tastes fresh every time .

A birthday visit for the family. Friendly welcome from the delightful pub manager lady and other staff. Easy to read menu with a mixture of British and Thai classics. Swiftly delivered after ordering. Well cooked and tasty. The pub is well furnished, clean and tidy. The menu is well-priced and delivered faultless. Highly commended. We will return!

Best pub in Elstead and ive been to them all, the Thai food and the restaurant team are incredible run by Nan and Sue, the chicken wings are my favourite. There is games, books and a pool table for those who need to be occupied and lovely bar staff.

Very limited for vegetarians which surprised and disappointed me. Lovely staff and service was great.

Unfortunately the food was below average and tasteless. Most likely re-heated many times. Apple pie came frozen inside. The staff was nice and friendly but definitely not a place to come back.

Fantastic takeaway once again from the Golden Fleece. 20 mins from online order to collection. Food piping hot & very tasty. We had Thai fish cakes, tempura prawns & dim sum for starters followed by pork & chicken pad Thai, prawn pad prik with egg fried noodles. Perfect sized portions & will be back. Thank you very much.

After a recommendation for this place for Thai food, we were excited to try it for my Wife's birthday. Sadly the calamari starter was very overcooked, and the red & green currys had very little flavour to them. I've had many better Thai currys. The staff were friendly enough, but the environment didn't feel particularly Thai, even in the restaurant bit. Plenty of better Thai restaurants out there in my view.

Dirty. Dead insects on window sills next to dining tables including a huge dead bee. No soap in bathroom. Surly waitress (had to get up several times to request things), table cleared while still eating. Could smell vape fumes from outside. Sticky table surface. It's really gone downhill.

Three of us had an excellent lunch. It was very quiet with just two other couples. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful and service was prompt. We had the penang curry, the massaman curry and one of us had two starters as a main, the tempura vegetables and sesame prawn toast. We will be back.

Fabulous Thai menu, superb food, delightful presentation and lovely staff. Portion sizes were spot on - enough to be replete, without feeling stuffed. Would highly recommend.

A really lovely bunch of people running the pub, and a very vibrant and friendly atmosphere. Would be lovely if the 1970s style Thai could be replaced with something else.... but then again, there are plenty of people who seem happy with it so what do I know!! Ha! But a really attentive and smiley team behind the bar!

Came for a private party (which was brilliant, a really good space and lovely bar staff) and took a takeaway home for dinner - amazing Thai food, so fresh and tasty! We ordered far too much but ate it all because we couldn't help ourselves!...

The food was good but due to Covid restrictions which are still in place, the place lacked atmosphere. Tape around the bar (to prevent customers from gathering around it) made it look like like a crime scene!

The food here is absolutely excellent. We are quite hard to please, however we were bowled over by the tastiness of these dishes. All the food we ordered was SO good. We will certainly be back to support this local family business.

Having decided to get takeout for the day choose to go here. Food was really good. Full of flavour and rather tasty. Satay chicken was a bit under cooked but rest was really good. But unfortunately before you get your food you have to order through staff who obviously don’t want to be there. Felt like we were inconveniences when ordering. Which is a shame.

Was driving around aimlessly looking for somewhere to have lunch and took a gamble.Authentic Thai food, menu looked great and was really torn on what to pick.Service was really good, was gutted the young lady who served us finsihed her shift before we paid so couldnt tip but had information on all the dishes and was always available for refills etc.Sat in the outside in the glorious sunshine with a cold beer and a very tasty meal, can't ask for more that that.

Food is great - racist attitudes not so great. The spike in Covid-19 was suggested,when pushed by the manager, as being down to a lack of social distance on the part of a small minority of younger people. This opinion (not really wanting to offer any opinion) was quickly but subtlety rejected by the manger to be replaced by a lack of attention to rules by people of a ‘certain ethnic group’. This is not acceptable as an opinion or as a throw away comment to your restaurant guests...ever. 45 minutes later a lovely Thai lady came to take payment after having provided excellent food and service. How can I review that experience without being truthful?Shocking. True. Sad.

First restaurant to go back to after lockdown and it never disappointed us on our return everything as it should be in this crazy new world

Have been using the Golden Fleece for many years. As a couple but also with the children and grandchildren. Never been disappointed. Always good service. Polite. Meals always hot. It gets busy often(COVID ASIDE). Will continue to use it as and when we are able. Thoroughly recommend a try for anyone who is not sure what a thai maybe..Set just across way bridge in Elstead. Be surprif you are disappointed...Enjoy.

Our first order with the Golden Fleece, having always heard great things. Order was ready a time requested and so easy to collect and pay for. We ordered a Thai take-away of: beef green curry (which had a great kick to it), 4 veg spring rolls (small and a bit dry/flavourless), prawn crackers (brown ones were lovely, but white ones were a tad soft) and a vegetable noodle dish. The last item came as just stir-fired vegetables in a water soy sauce with no noodles. The meal was nice, but at £25+ we feel it was overpriced. A little disappointed.

Our second takeaway since lockdown- such great flavours and all freshly cooked. Thank you for carrying on in these difficult times.

We booked a lunchtime meal for my mothers birthday. Always fairly quiet at lunchtime, which means that the service is good. The food was very good and very good value for money.

Absolutely lovely pub, great food, but the food service is quite agressive! Came in without a booking at 5.45pm with a view to having some food after a drink - regret saying that we wanted to eat in retrospect, we should have hung on for half an hour! We had barely finished ordering drinks when we were ushered to a table and handed menus. The server was hovering around the table absolutely desperate to take our order, it would have been nice to have been allowed to chat and look over the menu for quite a bit longer, her presence put quite a bit of pressure on to order. The food was absolutely lovely and quick to arrive, but my date night that I had really looked forward to (as we don't get out that much) was over and done with inside of 45 minutes! Would definitely come again BUT would be a bit more forthright about being allowed to take our time.

Whilst the quality of the food was totally unsurpassed I have to report that the lavatories were definitely not included in the £85,000 makeover. There was no allowance made for the elderly who require walking aids. The cubicles in the Ladies are too small to allow for the door to be closed with a Zimmer frame inside so it has to remain open and there are no 'grab rails' either. Altogether rather a let down after such a wonderful meal.

Live locally and have been many, many times which speaks for itself. Food is always good quality and whilst not absolute restaurant top end, is consistently enjoyable either as a take away or to eat in. Staff always friendly and welcoming

Very enjoyable meal in an English pub setting. Thai food was well presented and tasted authentic. Good service too. Well worth a visit.

I popped in for a solo lunch in December. The Thai food is as good as any I have had in the general area and the prices very competitive. The service staff at the tables are charming. The bar staff are particularly friendly. There is also "English" style cooking available. There is plenty of parking to the rear of the pub. The beers are well kept.If you are looking for good beer, good food, great people and not a merchant banking in sight, this is the place for you!

Came here after bad experience at Woolpack. Nice simple Thai pub food. Good friendly service. Not exceptional, but good.

Our party of 5 dined on a Sunday afternoon and the service at both the bar and the restaurant was excellent. I'm at a loss how other people have found fault in the establishment.

Really fancied a quick nosh at this pub-cum-restaurant the other night. Been many many times over the years, and had various issues with service, but none quite sufficient for a Trip review. This time, a simple question about substituting an item for another in the hors d'oeuvre of a banquet, led eventually, to an extremely unpleasant exchange with the Thai restaurant manager, who attended our table and, unsolicited, began gesticulating and pointing in a very animated, aggressive, hostile and threatening way. Entirely unwelcome, deeply unpleasant and altogether unnecessary. We had simply asked for one item to be substituted for another, which we had NOT been told couldn’t be done, were served the hors d'oeuvres minus the item we didn’t want, and charged in full for the ‘substituted’ item! Which, quite rightly, we were unhappy about.

Really excited to be going out for lunch and checked online that it was open on a Monday which it was! As soon as we opened the door to go in the nice lady just smiled and said sorry no food on a Monday! That was that! We turned round and headed for the car!! Ended up going next door to The Elstead Mill which we highly recommend

Was passing through the area so decided to look at possible places for lunch. We usually like to research what to order before we visit a place but unfortunately the Golden Fleece didn’t have a website. Decided to give it a go based on the reviews and it did not disappoint! Food was delicious and fairly priced. My usually fussy 3 year old loved the starter platter and the restaurant/pub had a nice atmosphere. Would definitely stop over for a family lunch again soon. In case there are any other people who like to look at menus before visiting a place I attached photos of the menu.

The tastes and flavours in most Thai restraunts become 'anglicised' after a few years, this one definitely has NOT. The menu is simple and wide ranging rather than pages and pages of slightly different and often puzzling items.

my wife and I went there for a Saturday evening meal, it was packed out! Which was good, it shows that it has great food. We had prawn toasts and prawn fish cakes for starters. The pad Thai, and prawns in a pepper sauce, both were rarely good, We were too full for pudding. We will be back!

It was a shame to see this place quite quiet on a Tuesday lunch as it deserves so much more business. Reliable, tasty Thai food every time. Cannot fault it, and very friendly staff. Will always bring my friends here to impress them!

Called in for a meal following a visit to Guildford and had the most amazing thai food, probably the best we have had since living in the area. The service for both drink & food was prompt and efficient. Will be back for more delicious food soon.

We just moved to Elstead and thought we'd try dinner at this pub serving Thai food. Having lived in SE Asia for 16 years this is probably some of the most authentic Thai food I've tasted in the UK! Amazing! Food was deliciious and well-presented - it tasted freshly cooked and we really enjoyed it. We are so pleased to have found this on our doorstep! Service was efficient and friendly - we have a bunch of teens and it was a great place to spend the evening with them. Thumbs up!

This isn't high end dining but rather a decent venue for a lunchtime Thai. Freshly cooked so worth a visit - red duck curry was excellent

My family and I booked a table for four on a Sunday lunch time in June 2019. The food was delicious and we left with full happy tummies.

We chose to take away as we were staying nearby and didn’t have much time for lunch. We very much enjoyed the Golden Fleece delight (a sharing platter) and a chicken pad Thai.

This place is amazing and well worth a visit.

I visited with friends for dinner. Ordering was challenging as one of us is vegan and some of us have food intolerances or dislikes. The chef came out and spoke to us and gave advice on what to chose. Our meals were promptly served and very delicious! Would definitely eat there again.

Came here on a whim one night and enjoyed a really lovely tasting meal. Excellent Thai food, great service and clean pub. The regulars and staff obviously knew eachother well and there was lots of friendly chat going on which made for a nice atmosphere!

Great old pub, run by an Italian couple. You can tell, because the make fantastic pizza (available as a takeaway also). Food is otherwise traditional British pub food, and is excellent. Dessert trolley is not to be missed! A good selection of wines and local ales. Our second visit, this is now our "local". Very friendly atmosphere, and excellent service. Well worth a visit!

Having just returned from Koh Samui from our honeymoon we have been desperate to find somewhere that did authentic Thai cuisine and just like that .... we found it at the Golden Fleece - we LOVED the food here and took us straight back to that fisherman’s village market on thy small Thai island! The massaman curry is absolutely to die for - I could have just eaten a bowl of Rice with that sauce! We are going back with our friends and cannot blooming wait!!!!! Totally recommend x

I confess to being a regular at this pub. The staff are always welcoming and charming, There is always a good selection of draft beers. The atmosphere is "proper" pub (none of your merchant banker rubbish) and the thai food is really most excellent. There is bags of parking to the rear of the building.

We visited here with family on a recent trip to Surrey. Were a bit dubious about how good the Thai food would be when the place is essentially a pub but honestly, the quality of the food was excellent! We had the set menu and my only downside is that I thought the portion sizes were a bit small. Would definitely return though!

We were out and about just after Christmas and popped in here just before closing time one afternoon. They were very accommodating and we had a lovely lunch. My husband had a fish dish and I had the squid salad. It was so tasty and probably one of the best squid salads I have ever had. It was so full of lovely Thai flavour and also very filling too.

Popped in for lunch with family and REALLY enjoyed the food. Really fresh, crunchy veg and proper chicken. My 7 year old loved the massamun curry. They even did a kiddies sausage and chips for my wee boys who didn't fancy Thai food. Great service and really tasty food. Highly recommended.

I am not a fan of Thai food at all but as this was our christmas evening out i promised i would give it a go ! Loved the food ! there was so much to choose from on the menu that i had the opposite problem to normal where i cant find anything to choose from, this time there were lots of tasty options. We had the sharing option for starters and there was more than enough for everyone to have a taste of something, i then had the thai noodles with a beef in hoi sin sauce main. polished off the lot, they also ask if you want things hot or not so you dont have to worry if your not a fan of spicy food. will definitely be coming back here again.

Unusual to find a Thai/Chinese restaurant in a traditional pub - but it seems to work. Generally busy and the food quality is good.

We have been eating here for many years and the food is always wonderful. Some previous reviews have mentioned 'drab' surroundings but this is a pub as well and so is not surrounded by conventional 'Thai restaurant' furnishings. The red curries and pad thai are my personal favourite.

The quality of the Thai food sometimes means that the beer at this pub is overlooked. Not in this review! I have drunk at this pub for many years now and the beer is kept beautifully. The bar staff have always been charming and helpful.

Excellent food and service every single time. Everything I've ever tried here has been tasty. Special mentions go to the mussaman curry and the phad thai (i genuinely think they serve the best in the country). I will always rely on this place for amazing thai food.

My first visit here and I was not disappointed! Thai is my favourite food and this restaurant is definitely up there in my top 3! What’s more is that it’s like stepping back in time into a beautiful old building with period features.

Me, my mum, my dad, my brother and my dog all went out for some food and the food was 10/10 .My family have now been going to the Golden Fleece for around 17-18 years and have never been let down or sill hungry after eating there. The food is traditional Thai and worth every penny. They are vegetarian friendly and have the nicest staff ever especially Sue. Sue has worked there putting smiles on everyone’s faces for years now and is the heart of the restaurant . They also have a lovely garden where we always sit after a meal.

Been here a few times before, nice food_ authentic although a little salty. However the surroundings really are drab. No atmosphere whatsoever. They haven't got the ratio of drinkers and restaurateurs correct, the bar gers very busy so waring staff cannot tend to tables properly.

This is the best Thai food in miles! I’ve eaten Thai in most towns/cities across the uk with this being my favourite. It’s more of a pub atmosphere which isn’t for everyone but reasonably priced and consistent over 17 years!

Once again I popped in for a quick lunch. I had a Thai soup with mushrooms followed by a green curry with a separate dish of beansprouts. Everything was beautifully cooked and really tasty. I cannot speak highly enough about the quality of this Thai food. Highly recommended. They do a fixed price lunch menu, with choices, that is also very good and excellent value for money.

We're big fans of Thai food so decided to get a takeaway after many years of hearing how great the food was at the Golden Fleece. Ordered Beef massaman, green chicken curry, 2 portions of rice and a mixed starters for 2. Came to £35+ which was definitely too expensive, especially considering the portion sizes were pretty small.

Found this pub by chance as we were going to stop in the mill up the road, so glad we didn't the food and the owner Robert were amazing. The Thai food was so fresh, clean and tasty , all three of us were so impressed.

Very nice food once again , always a pleasure to come but we found the service slow this time , and there was no excuse for it as it was early and the place was pretty empty . Shame , but like I say the food was really good again and we will be going back hopefully it was just one of those days .

If you like Thai food this is the place albeit service a little slack. Asked for high chair and waitress just pointed to it, so had to take it to the table ourselves.Not good as ordered on booking table.

As long as you want great food and good service this is a great place to visit, but we found the surrounds a little stark and cold. To be fair the price is very reasonable and the choice was as good as most Thai restaurants.
