Golden Fleece in Newham

I attended this pub on my own for 4 years whilst living in Manor Park (where I had never lived before) and I must admit the pub in the last 18 months pre post covid has been fantastic. The staff are welcoming, the atmosphere is great on weekends and it’s a great setting next to Wanstead Flats in the summer.It’s a pub and that’s what you should expect, nothing is perfect, however with the quizzes, live music from time to time, showing the football/sport in general and friendly regulars this pub has been a great place to be.I would recommend on a number of levels

Just an amazing venue. The staff are amazing and a big shout out to Duty Manager Taylor, his customer service skills are 5*.Amazing prices on drinks, ive never heard of a double grey goose with mixer for £6 just wow Lovely atmosphere, great entertainment in the form of karaoke and cant wait to come back next time!!!

My husband and I, used the fleece when we were courting 45 years ago and it was the 'in 'pub at the time especially in the summer. We or course have carried on using it over the years and have seen many changes. What I must say is the welcome as always as been warm and friendly from all the different staff that have come and gone. So when my mum passed I did not hesitate to arrange the wake at the fleece. Again the staff were at their best nothing was to much trouble and the Buffet was excellent . On such a sad day we could not have asked for better service. I thank you all. Let's hope the fleece survives another 45 years.

I always bring my elderly father here when he is visiting from the North. There's plenty of room to accommodate his walking issues and the staff are very helpful. He really enjoys it, as its very affordable and the prices are no where near some of the other local establishments that he now refuses to go to. On the food front, don't expect haute cuisine and you won't be disappointed; always hot and presented well as far as our experience has been. They now have a much better selection of wines and the Amodo sparkly is very good IMHO. The Wednesday night quiz is a firm favourite in our house, along with the Garden in the summer months and it's Dog friendly to boot . Keep up the upwards trend.

We booked this pub for a funeral gathering after a recommendation from our funeral directors and a family member who said he had been here before after a funeral. We honestly don't know what went wrong with our booking but as soon as we arrived we felt no preparation had been made for us. There was only 8 of us so not a big crowd however we were told the table was 'out the back' but no one directed us to our table. There was nothing on the table either to indicate a welcome apart from a reservation note. The first thing I asked for were 6 cups of tea which arrived with 2 small jugs of lukewarm water from a machine I think and clearly was not enough. Such a basic request after a funeral but it would seem this was an unusual request perhaps? Sandwiches, susuage rolls, quiche, and chips finally arrived but looked hurriedly put together and not very well presented either. We had paid £50 deposit and the total bill came to £120 which is extortionate for what we received. It was embarrassing and disappointing and we would not recommend this establishment for an after funeral gathering unless steps are taken to address the simple measures ie a designated staff member to welcome the mourners, a training course on food preparation, and importantly how to make a hot cup of tea for guests. I do hope these simple tips will be taken on board by the management of this pub.

Use to be a great pub but since change of ownership it has gone down hill new staff and management are rude and disrespectful to people that have been going for years won’t be coming back!! UP THE MOON AND STARS

Been back to the Golden Fleece for some food and a drink and it was a good experience. Tried the Halloumi Wrap which was nice!

Visiting tonight (19th december) with my family to have a few drinks and food for my mums birthday. The whole experience was amazing! The service was fantastic, we were served by two gents whose names i didnt catch. The food was also amazing! We ordered quite abit of food and it all came out piping hot and quickly!I honestly could not ask for more!

We love this pub! The atmosphere you find yourself in is like being in a nice countryside place with adorable people around you. My son is feeling at home every time we go to the Golden Fleece. The food is just amazing and the level of care received from the staff is 5stars, specifically Madalina a previous resource for this place! This is definitely one of my favourite pub in London!

This is one of my favorite places in London, they have a lovely, clean and comfy place, very good food and the best part is that the staff can make your day, they are really nice and beautiful people, especially Madalina. we decided to celebrate our wedding at the Golden Fleece and I have to say that was brilliant, thanks to Taylor and his staff we had a lovely time, he set everything for what we asked and yes, thank you guys, you made our wedding!!!!!Natalia and Erik.

Roast was dry, Yorkshire pudding was flat as a pancake. Mac n cheese side order was probably the most horrific thing I’ve eaten - grey in colour, extremely salty and no evidence of cheese inside. One of the toilets had no soap. However, staff were friendly and we could bring our dog. Location also right next to Wanstead flats so had a good walk afterwards.

Had another brilliant night at the Golden Fleece! East London’s hidden gem. Will be back for sure and spreading Wanstead’s flat best kept secret.

I popped in for lunch on Thursday with a friend for a quick working lunch. Service was friendly. Steak sandwich was naughty but delicious and the chicken burger was banging. Will be back soon.

Nathan was absolute lovely mannered and welcoming. Does his job with pride and professionalism. Made sure to do a check back and clear tables of dirty plates as soon as possible without being asked.

Had a great time here with some mates. Both food and drinks were spot on. Couldn't fault the staff or service. 10/10!

I used to go to this pub but had stopped. I went recently as I’d heard it was under new management. I have since started to go on a regular basis as I have to say I was quite impressed with the set-up. I’m especially impressed with the food. The menu is large and varied with many options. I have now had the opportunity to try quite a few things on the menu and have not been disappointed yet (I’m a real foodie person!). The staff are good and helpful. Definitely a nice place to spend time in. The beer garden’s great too!

What a difference now the manager has changed, staff are much friendlier and attentive . Plain just seems nicer. Food was good and served quickly and was ver good. All in all very good experience , well done new boss.

Have visited the Fleece twice this weekend and had two good night's. We ate the 2nd night and Nathan who is new to his job couldn' t have been more attentive. New lmanagement but very friendly. Would be good to see more people on the dig a litthe evening, he played some great music.

Disappointed on this visit , previously been here several times and had a nice experience but this time was not good , we were sat near the toilets which you could slightly smell , a customer came in and sat down with 2 dogs on leads which kept barking ( really dogs in an area where food is served different if it was a guide dog ).When ordering food from the menu was told sorry we haven't got that today ( several items ).When getting our desert we ordered banana waffles , well the waffle was like a rock , we complained and was told they must have been in the microwave for a long while ??? , They was changed for better ones.Overall very disappointed and will not be going back for some time if at all.

We went for lunch with friends. We have been before and the place did not seem as busy as previous visits which have been fine. Don’t order drinks on the app as they have started taking orders at the bar again and they completely forget about a lot of the app orders. We were warned it would be 45 minute wait for food I’d say it took about an hour and a half and they brought out 2 meals 20 minutes before everyone else’s so they had to eat without us. Someone else in my group had confused them asking to switch something and they appeared to have removed it off my main as well and not switched it with anything. I didn’t say anything as they didn’t seem like they cared and I just wanted to eat at this point. It was more like a starter than a main size and I didn’t want to order more and wait for another hour. I am a small woman but I was so hungry I ordered a pizza when I got home, about 30 minutes after leaving there. I’d go back but front of house seem like slightly overwhelmed teens and could do with a manager helping them out on the bar.

This is our local, and we've been enjoying the food there over the last few months. However, our last 2 visits were very disappointing. One Friday lunchtime we waited over 50 minutes for our drinks, which finally came after we'd finished our meal. Last Friday evening we arrived for a meal at a pre booked table, to be told there was an hour wait for drinks! Needless to say, we gave it a miss. Please sort this out as we'd like to keep this our local.

Firstly, forced to use an app. Table was booked and told we had it for an hour and a half. Ordered food and it took an hour to arrive. I have known this pub for over 30 years and has changed hands several times. I'd hoped that now with the present ownership things would have improved The service for food has always been awful. The kitchen facilties are clearly inadequate and not enough staff. Food wasn't too bad but chicken was dry and very overcooked and stringy. This pub which is a local has always been badly organised.

I was really surprised to see the pub is introduced the menu on online platform where is much easier to order and decide what you want and the service it was excellent thank you guys, in special Madalina is a legend 🤗

It was a cloudy windy day however it was such a great time. The kids were still playing around the kids are while we enjoyed a good drink. Also the food was fresh and delicious

It is an amazing place, perfect for family dinners out. There is a very nice big garden with play area for kids. Service is quick and food is delicious. The staff is professional and kind and helpful. One of my favourite places to dine with friends and family.

We had booked a table but when we arrived there was no actual table for us. We were placed on a tiny table. Although there was a card on the table saying it had been cleaned, it was sticky to the touch. Not very nice. Two of my party ordered a soup to start, however, on their second mouthful of soup the mains arrived!! Food seemed precooked and not that marvellous. There was no social distancing. Not very impressed at all, which is a shame.

If average chain pub is your vibe then I’m sure you’ll love it. We were after a bit more character. The comments that it’s a country pub in the city - well... you’ve obviously never been to a real country pub. It’s only marginally up from a Wetherspoons, which is shame because the location and garden is cracking. Felt like a 6 form common room with bad music and indifference service. I’m sure in the summer, sat in the garden with a pint, where you don’t have to engage with the bored staff too much it’s nice enough. But certainly not a cosy winter pub after a walk. Plenty of other east end pubs nearby with more character. This place has no charm - don’t be fooled by it’s exterior.

Really a lovely lunch time on Wednesday. nothing too much trouble for servers and the Golden Fleece very welcoming. The food delicious and I had a lovely birthday lunch. We had brotherinlaw in wheelchair and they really helped us providing information as to garden entrance/exit.

We had the wake for my Sister at the Golden Fleece and we cannot thank them enough, food and staff were excellent everyone said how good the food was, we will return again under better circumstances to say Thanks again.

We didn’t eat but spent the afternoon sipping beer in the garden outback. Great place surrounded on one side by fields with sheep. Really enjoyable place really packed later in the day.

Located opposite the open fields of Wanstead Flats, this pub is a great location any time of year. Typical pub fare, always reasonable and well presented and always enjoyable. The staff here are lovely and always take good care of you. There’s a play area for kids in the sizeable garden, and four legged friends are always welcome. One even patrols the roof, which is no surprise as the sunsets over the common are wonderful

I had a lovely Christmas Dinner at The Golden Fleece Manor Park,with a friend. The Food was tasty and hot when brought to the table.Our Server couldn't have been more helpful and polite. The Pub is on the edge of Wanstead Flats. It is an extensive place with a good selection of beers etc. A pleasant cross section of people attend there.leading to a friendly and cordial atmosphere.I would highly recommend this Drinking/Eating Public House.

I had a pre booked place for Christmas dinner and was let down. I was placed in an awkward spot, and felt a little humiliated.

Popped here for Nan's Birthday lunch as close to her Home. Has wheelchair access, although only via garden. Staff very accommodating. We both had Scampi which was ok. Typical pub menu. Good selection of beer and bitter and spirits.

We had our Mum's wake here at it was so lovely. Food was fabulous & lots of it. Friendly, helpful & very fate prices.

The Golden Fleece had a big refurbishment a couple of years ago. Very large pub, with a separate function area. That is used for parties and funeral wakes.

Such a nice and friendly staff they've got there. The food is fresh and the garden is amazing. I've been with my friends once, and I can not miss any Saturday without going to Golden Fleece.

This is a great pub to drop in on when using the Wanstead Flats end of Epping Forest or if you have need to use The East London and City Cemetery and Crematorium.

A large group of mixed aged ladies had the most wonderful lunch today, the food was very good, plenty of it and quite delicious! The service was warm, friendly and helpful. I could not recommend it enough and hope to go back soon !

I came here as part of a close friends celebration of life/funeral, wow did they do him proud!, they let us have an area to put photos, pebbles, sweeties, home made cakes, and ofcourse the pub did an amazing buffet they catered for vegans, veggies and for people with no food problems, sandwiches with brown and white bread, anchovies in breadcrumbs, onion bahgis, pakoras, fresh salmon, chips, and the most beautiful quiche my word i wish i had the recipe. the staff were brilliant, made sure eveyone was ok and there was enough food and made sure that at the end of the celebration they had somewhere to put the stuff then collect the day after. the atmosphere was brilliant for saying it could have been a sombre party! my friends had an open bar for everyone from 11am till 9pm so the staff were very busy. the whole party/event was super i think you could have xmas parties, hen parties all kinds of parties here its perfect

Been on Sunday down to the pub and I've order myself a roast lamb and that was absolutely yummy! !Also you should try the cookie sundae desert is lovely! The staff is lovely !!

Decent well-kept beer (Otter Amber) but poor range of cider. Large but unimaginative garden. Front of the pub looks out across a quiet road onto open land - tables at the front are attractive.

Class this pub as our local, staff are always friendly and welcoming Food is typical pub food but always good even if, sometimes you might have to wait. My only real criticism is the poor range of cider setved

Reservamos una zona para mi 30 el domingo 22 de julio y el servicio era muy pobre. Servicio de bar parecían agobiados y estresados. Pedimos nuestra comida y se informó que sería hasta 1 hora y 30 minutos. Lo que no tengo elección cuando reservé la zona por 2 meses y estaba en contacto con consentimiento, había 25 de nosotros.

Vine aquí con mi familia para comer el domingo. Esperamos más de una hora y media y me dijeron que no tenía lo que pedía. La comida de reemplazo terminó siendo mediocre. Otros miembros de la familia esperaron más de 2 horas! ! No volveré.

Cruzamos este pub pase un par de veces, así que decidimos entrar con un amigo por una cerveza y algo de cenar. Me quedé muy sorprendido, la decoración era preciosa con poco y acogedores espacios y moderno entorno. Decidimos ir a el jardín de la cerveza, que era muy grande con muchas mesas en un entorno encantador. Para la cena tenía la carne y ale, que era de verdad delicioso pastel, mi amigo tenía el pollo hunter, tuvimos dos comidas por sólo £11 y disfrutamos los disfrutamos. Decidimos tomar un postre de caramelo y tenía el refresco que fue increíble. El personal era muy amable y nos hizo sentir muy bienvenidos, un pub encantador con un ambiente estupendo y la comida muy buena, sin duda volveremos, un pub encantador en un entorno encantador con buena comida a precios muy razonables.

We visited this pub whilst visiting London and had been told that the food was good, sadly out experience did not reflect this. When we arrived we ordered our drinks but the very first thing that was noticed was that one of the glasses was filthy, this was brought to the bar man’s attention and he then changed the glass.

This large pub has a lovely 'country pub' feel to it both internally and in its large seated garden, and it does decent meals. Another plus is that it is on Wanstead Flats and not too far from the very scenic Wanstead Park.

Cosy pub, friendly atmosphere & staff, plenty of locals having a good time, Good food (especially the buttered potatoes). Reasonably priced too, would recommend!

Went in to have a meal on a Friday evening (April 2018) after work, was disappointed with the food and staff.

I last came here a couple of years ago and didnt think much of it, however, now it serves several decent beers and the food is reasonable pub food with a good kids menu.
