Golden Express in North Hertfordshire

Lovely pub, went out for an anniversary dinner. The drinks and food were reasonably priced. Serving staff were lovely and everything we had was delicious, special mention to the Steak Pie, we will be back!

We went for Valentine’s Day dinner and had quite a disappointing experience. The food was lovely but the experience was a let down. When we arrived, our coats were taken and the atmosphere was lovely so was a good start but then it went downhill when it felt like we were being neglected and treated differently to everyone else in the restaurant. We didn’t have the menu explained to us at all so weren’t sure if we had to order from the set menu etc. We then weren’t offered water for the table but we noticed everyone else was. We asked for some water and got given either still or tap but we weren’t given any option and other people were. We were then given some bread but no butter and again, we saw all the other tables getting butter. We then ordered our mains and starters which were lovely, I have no complaints about the quality of food. We were not checked on though at all throughout the meal or offered any more drinks. We had to wait over an hour between finishing our main and then we had to flag down a waiter to ask for dessert. Then when we wanted to order dessert, it appeared that all the other tables were served before us and some received their desserts before we had even been asked. At this point we had been at the restaurant for 3 hours and just wanted to go home so instead of dessert, we asked for the bill. The bill then took so long to come out, that we should have just ordered dessert. I still don’t really know if we paid for a 3 course or 2 course meal as there was no price breakdown, but being classic British people, we didn’t cause a fuss at the time as we didn’t want to ruin our evening more. When we got up to leave, we had to then go and find our coats…again, everyone else was given their coat by the waiter. The whole time we felt like we had done something wrong and were treated differently to everyone else. It was such a shame as I can see how this would be a great restaurant but on this occasion, the experience was a let down.

We came in here as we were at an event in the church, we did plan to come here but glad we did the food was lovely especially the Kiev fries, staff were friendly

Crab on toast, burger, burnt cream and rhubarb. All excellent.

Great beers and very friendly staff. Best place in Letchworth for a real drink with great atmosphere
