Golden Chip in West Lothian

Price has jumped dramatically for a pizza supper over the last year. And for there pizza now to be smaller and thinner is disappointing. Chips also soggy.

Decent service, fresh and fast. Good quality only take away we frequently use in linlithgow

Ordered a takeaway for delivery - food arrived quickly and hot. All meals were very enjoyable and tasty - particularly the haggis

After several visits of late I wo t return visited last night. Ordered 2 white pudding suppers. Got home to see I had been given to very thin black puddings rock hard black puddings so they went in the bin. Visited later one night to be given again stuff that had been lying and should have been binned being a caterer myself I would not serve this disappointed to say the least.

Solid Fish & Chips. Fast delivery and always hot.

A great chippy, the fish and chips is always crispy with a very clean flavour and not oily at all but they key thing is that its always consistent no matter what time I've popped in.

Food arrived even quicker than expected and was delicious. Haddock was obviously very fresh, and batter was perfectly crispy.

We had our food delivered and it arrived at the time we pre booked. Delicious fish and chips and plenty of it too.

I asked if i could get 1 sausage and 1 hamburger . And pay same as a single item.. and they said yes..and i visit regularly now .. very polite and organised .. thank you. . Taxi Tesco Dave . 👍

When in Scotland right??? Had to try a Haggis Supper and the Golden Chip in Linlithgow was the perfect place. It did not disappoint. Service was great, and had some fun banter with the staff who were very friendly and happy to answer our questions that I'm sure they get from all the tourists. The Haggis supper itself was amazing, everything I was hoping for and more. My only disappointment was that I wasn't able to get back there for another one.

Fish supper was expensive and cold. I’d rather wait the 10 minutes or so to have it freshly cooked than pay for one that has been sitting out and cold

Such a clean establishment✨ which made me happy before I even bought anything. Had the breaded fish supper, it was fantastic. Chips fried to perfection, crunchy and light. Would defo recommend and will be back.

First time eating here and will definitely be returning food was hot and fresh, the way the ordering is done is definitely better than most chippys fast service and great team work

I haven't been to Linlithgow since last year. A visit to Golden chip is a must when I do. ....not anymore it isn't. I'm guessing it has changed owners. I was very disappointed with the fish and chips. They now use oil instead of beef dripping to fry the food. Totally against tradition. The fish was slightly gray , the batter was soggy. I loved that chippy. I won't be going back now. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I'll bet the people of Linlithgow have noticed the difference?.

Was always worried that the fish and chips might be a bit cold with delivery but I was so wrong. They were as hot as getting them straight from the shop and probably arrived quicker than it would take me to go and get them. I highly recommend the delivery service

Positives - food served absolutely rapid. Chips good. Negatives - Pre cooked food been sitting in heating bit for a while, tasting a bit stale. Possibly in anticipation of a busy day/night? Jumbo sausage appears to have become a causlty of shrinkflation and is now just 2 regular sausages. Didn't know that until i got home and opened the box. Children not particulary happy... Staff member a bit too keen on trying to rush through orders, despite the shop being dead @5pm. Perhaps had been watching the olympics prior to her shift, who knows, but the implied efficancy meant she didnt hear me ask questions about the food and we had to restate my order a couple of times. Before i knew it I was out of the shop without any tartare, mushy peas or extras i had been thinking about. Summary - happy to wait for fresher food and slower service so i could have enjoyed my food more.

Food was ok but staff need to work on their customer service skills instead of grouping together, laughing and talking about customers.

Hard to find a parking space but got there eventually. Nice looking large chippy and clean looking. Staff seemed a bit angry but everyone has a bad day at work don't they, so I really can't mark down on that for one visit alone. Food was just ok. Chips a bit dry and fish was really thin and a bit dry as well. Service was very fast which is great. Wouldn't use again sorry, might have been a one off who knows.

Over £11 for the worst fish supper I've ever had, greasy soggy and just yuk. No flavour at all. Also half my order was missing.... no confirmation of refund for these items yet!

Ordered fish n chips 2 fish and a miserable 2 scoop chips . Got home opened box, big gaping hole where chips should have 3 scoops at least for price your charged . reheated in airfryer 2 mins batter was nice chips average but 2 fish I was looking for the fish wafer thin 70% batter 30% fish Usually when you have a supper your full but not this time won't be back and scandalous price £11.10 on 15 June 2024

Went in here last night, the place looks spotlessly clean and to be fair I thoroughly enjoyed the steak pie supper I had, however a couple of the staff behind the counter looked as if they didn’t want to be there and when my order was ready it was given to me as of if I was an inconvenience to her, no eye contact or any interaction of any sort. I won’t inconvenience her again.

Payed £11.35p for probably the worst fish supper I have ever tasted. It was very dry crispy batter with very little fish the only saving grace were the chips which were very tasty.

We always order a special haddock supper here. Beautifully crumbed. Holds its crunch well. Two big pieces of quality fish. Thank you!

Staff always rude, food fair enough! - UPDATE - May 2024 Called in again recently and little has changed. The food has gone from fair to tasteless and is still probably the most expensive poor quality i've tasted for a long time. Staff attitude is still bordering on rude. If there was another chip shop in Linlithgow i'd go there in a heartbeat. Don't waste your money.

Been too long since I had the special haddock supper at the Golden Chip. Quality, quantity and service was outstanding.

£26 for a fish supper and kids chicken nuggets and chips with delivery. Chips were like cold mash potatoes, fish was chewy and inedible and the chicken nuggets where more like chicken pellets. Won't be back.

Very poor quality fish and chips. Cold hard batter, very small haddock with little meat or taste and the chips were cold. I don't know how long they had been there keeping warm, waiting to be sold but they were truly the worst fish and chips that I have ever had. I rang and complained about the quality and was offered a replacement but I wasn't prepared to risk having a repeat of the experience. Perhaps I caught them on an off day.... maybe not. For the price they charge they really need to do so much better.

Haven't had fish and chips in ages so went to the Golden Chip. Loved the amosphere with the staff uniform and they were all happy and chatty. Fish and Chips were 👌..

No delivery after 9.30 pm. Don't bother trying to get delivery after this. They are putting flyers through doors and not providing the service. It's junk mail. They aren't giving you two fillets of fish. They are giving you one single cut of angel divided into two portions instead of two singles. If you want a legitimate fish and chips i suggest somewhere else so you aren't getting ripped off.

Omg it Fish supper and sausage supper. Well I wanted to go back for more. Absolutely wow. The taste was perfect as the chips. I would give them 1000% . Going on Saturday night and can't wait. Actually that's tomorrow. Yeehaaa. Can't wait.

Great food, amazing scotch sellers and so friendly, the all town deserve to be visited, recommend to be visited through Rabbis tour or take the bus from Edinburgh. The town has amazing castle on the lack and many beautiful birds, be sure you have some bread to feed the ducks and the birds :)

A decent fish and chip shop that does other fast food is reasonably priced and the locals use it so that's always a good sign. We enjoyed our meal and will use this place again if we are ever back in the area

Absolutely vile! Firstly the portion size was tiny. For the only you pay you get barely anything. The chips were soggy wet and bloody cold. No salt or anything when I asked for it. I chucked it in the bin and cooked. Which I should of done in the 1st place!!!!!

I am a regular customer here, usually fantastic food and service couldn't fault it until I got home with my order tonight which was supposed to be a full pizza supper and I opened the pizza box and was shocked to see exactly what is shown in the photo. I was so horrified I decided to call the store only for me to hear the female member of staff say to the manager "that's that customer on the phone about the pizza" then come back on the phone and say "what would you like us to do about it ?" Normally would give this place 5 stars but after tonight I am struggling to give it 1 star!!!

Quickly served, lovely food. Probably the right amount of food to serve but, supoose its more for the tourists as its down from the Palace. Quite pricey too probably due to that fact.

Expedient service, fkn good fish supper. Recommend also: Haggis, Black Pudding, Smoke Sausage and Jalepeneo Bites

Ordered for home delivery and was told 65 mins. It took 2 hours and 4 phone calls, and when it arrived it was cold.

Rank rotten!! Chips half cooked and looked more like a box of crisps.... Never again !!

Always tasty clean food from here

We picked up an order of 4 suppers, one chips and curry sauce, one cheese and chips and one chicken nuggets. This was on 22 August around 7pm. The five adults who ate the food were all agreed - the chips were very poor. I’ve eaten enough bad chips to know bad chips, and I’ve eaten enough chips from this shop to know this was not their normal standards. The chips were either reheats, or overcooked, or something else. We will buy again from the Golden Chip, but if the quality falls again to the standard I’ve just described, we will be having a quiet word.

Fantastic food the haggis and Chips were amazing

Bland fish, not the best I've ever had.

Take-away suppers, one white pudding, one black pudding, and one haggis. Know this take-away well and over the years they have been consistently good. Chips are brill, batter on puddings not greasy. Would recommend it. You can stroll around Linlithgow Loch but mind the seagulls don't steal your dinner.

Top rated Fish & Chip shop - 25 years since we last visited but still one of the best.

Went in for a king rib .. dry and had not been cooked from fresh .. awful.. very disappointed reheated dry and tasteless..

Scandalous that this business charges 25p for a brown bag to carry your chips This is pure greed making profits from a brown bag that would probably cost 5p I will not return for this reason

My partner placed an order tonight for them to take over 30 min to phone her and inform us that the oven that keeps their chicken hot was broken.Then on changing the order they get it wrong and we phone back to get it changed only to be told their driver has gone home 40min before the shop shuts. So half way thru eating my dinner I to my horror pull a long blond hair out my mouth now I know it's not ours because we are a family of brunette's !! Absolutely disgusting service and hygiene standards will not be going back and will not recommend to any one.

Hadn't been here for donkey's years till today and it's still as good as it was 25 years ago. Lovely crispy batter, golden chips like it says on the tin, really tasty!!

Its not hard is it? 1 pizza & chips 1 fish & chips (Only me to serve) If I hadn't been watching it getting bagged id have been away home on a miserable night with only 1 chips.. No apology when i pointed it out. Faces tripping them Fish lovely.

We come from Bathgate to linlithgow ever Sunday just to go to the golden chip. I am amazed at the bad reviews weekly our order has always been fresh and cooked perfect and large portions and always hot and the dogs love there sausage treat .

My local chippy with a fantastic menu, delicious food and a super speedy delivery service for those days you NEED CHIPS but leaving the house seems impossible. Love!

Always use the golden chip wether it's take out or delivery. Yesterday was the worst order I have had . Chips under cooked the leg on my chicken was still raw. The pizza was cold . My sauce wasn't delivered with my order all together a bad experience yesterday very disappointing from a takeaway I always use .

The Golden Chip in Linlithgow is brilliant. Food wonderful and delivery is excellent.

Had a supper chip were half cooked stodgy and full of oil, fine if you want a heart attack.

Best chippie in Linlithgow by far. Fresh fish served in crispy batter is the main draw, but other fried dishes, pizzas and even lasagna are also on offer. Nice friendly service too.

Whenever we are in Linlithgow, we always stop for chips, and sometimes if we're hungry, fish and chips. Always happy with the food.

Unfortunately on this occasion we had an hour to wait for the delivery and it was, although nicely cooked, cold when it arrived.

First class fish & chips. Fast and friendly service.
