Golden Bamboo in Newark and Sherwood

I have to say after the driver being late and my husband going to the golden bamboo after me phoning and just getting an answer phone message, at least 3 phone calls to them. The food has got to be the worst i have ever had from golden bamboo. We will never buy our Chinese takeout from there ever again such a waist of our money.

Portion sizes were small and there wasn’t a great deal of flavour

Listened to all our odd requests, delivered promptly and 2 bags of prawn crackers! Food was beautiful as always and we're both very full and satisfied

Food lacked seasoning throughout and the Jill Yuen chicken was greasy. Only positive - it was hot. Not up to their usual standards, very disappointed!

Most disgusting food I’ve ever ordered stay sauce looks like throw up everything is incredibly greasy had one bite and that was enough for me

DO NOT RECOMMEND! staff are rude and not helpful at all! food was cold and soggy, disgusting. they sent me the wrong food but would not replace it because where i live is "too far" even though they delivered to me in the first place! wouldnt even give me an alternative just no and rudeness over the phone. the food is not cooked properly and is not nice at all and way to overpriced for what you get. not happy at all, spent over £20 and did not eat a thing. prawn crackers were soft and horrible. DO NOT ORDER!!!

We had a lovely order and came early, the only thing missing was the Pepsi max.

The chicken in the chow mein was mushy and disgusting. The barbecue sauce was gloopy and extremely salty. The only think that was okay was the egg fried rice. Would definitely not recommend

If I pay £7 for crispy chilli beef I want it too touch the side of the container and the container it's self is the small size, Shocking amount of air provided.

If I could leave this place no stars I honestly would! The customer service we received tonight was appalling and the food no better. The chow mein was like slop and the chicken balls had no chicken! The best part was the prawn crackers! I placed my order so it would arrive for 7pm, I rang at 7.15 to see where it was to be told it was on its way. Fair enough. I then rang again at 7.30 as it still hadn't arrived. I then rang again at 7.35 to which they rang the driver (after I asked them to). They rang back to say it was 2 mins away making it nearly 40 minutes late. I asked what they would do if the food arrived cold (it was just warm) to which he said he didn't know, that the driver had delivered the other deliveries first and that we were too far away (12 mins) he didn't apologise and neither did the driver who threw the bag in my partners face with the comment "here!" And walked off. I will never order from here again!!

We had heard this place was good, as our local was closed we thought we’d give it try, I can tell you through gritted teeth and gut agony as I lose what’s left of my dignity in the bathroom that it was in fact the worst possible decision we have made. If you like soggy chicken, rice with zero flavour and over cooked chips that still look frozen then this joint is for you. There’s a pizza shop next door - go there. 🤮

Bit confused as I ordered sweet & sour chicken balls and none have chicken in? They're just big balls of solid dough? I'd like to be refunded for them please. Everything else was nice

We order from here regularly but unfortunately tonight was not the standard we are used to. The order was around 30 minutes late and some of our dishes were cold and needed re-heating. Disappointed with our order tonight 😔

Over 2 hours from ordering I got my food. If you can't mange deliveries don't accept orders. There are plenty of other takeaways that deserve your money. I won't be orders from here again

I ordered with some trepidation due to the mixed reviews on here. I am pleased to say however that the food was hot with plenty of the flavour we have enjoyed from Golden Bamboo in the past and not greasy at all. A lovely meal, thank you!

Sweet and sour pork was ok, so were the ribs. The chow mein was worse than a packet noodle. The biggest issue was the tiny portion sizes - I realise we are all under the pinch at the moment, but ripping your customers off isn't going to help you in the long run.

Never again. We ordered online before the restaurant even opened, for a delivery at 6.30. At 7.15 it arrived, but it was not our order. The new driver came back to collect it and said he’d be back in 15-20 minutes with our order. It did not arrive so we called to chase, to be told they were busy and our order was not even being cooked at the time, but they would try and have it to us in 20 minutes. Before the 20 minute deadline expired they called us back to say they’d cancelled the order as they couldn’t fulfil it, even though they sent the wrong one earlier. We will not be ordering from them again.

Beef and mushroom very bland and sweet and sour sauce didn’t really taste of much. Egg fried rice was nice though.

Really struggling to say something positive about this... Other than the food being ready quicker than Max Verstappen, which does make it all feel pre-prepared! The S+S Chicken balls are big but then you realise that the meat portion is small and surrounded by fluffy nonsense devoid of flavour other than oil! Our other dishes were not too much different in quality other than the crispy duck being quite nice even though there was not crisp about it. Maybe the fact it was kept warm from pre-prep. The next time our regular Chinese takeaway is closed, we will go for a chippy!

Not the nicest Chinese I've ever had if I'm honest. It takes like a Chinese that I'd cook at home. Sweet and sour sauce had the weirdest taste to it, egg rice was sticky, chicken balls had more dough than chicken. Single curry meals were good. First time ordering but I won't order again.

heavily disappointing. there was no chicken in the chicken balls and they tasted like stodgy donuts. the prawn toast was greasy. the chicken in the chow mein was rubbery, clearly not cooked right. did not finish any of it, all was thrown in the bin, wasted my money. not satisfied at all.

Rice, chips and noodles were all really good - not too salty and good texture. However, the barbecued sauce was so salty and lacked flavour. The sweet and sour sauce was very light in colour and the quite vinegary. Could be a really nice Chinese, sauces just need a bit of work imo!

Worst Chinese I’ve ever had, sweet sour chicken had hardly any sauce in it and the sauce that was there was gluppy and see through? Chow mein was sloppy with chewy chicken and no flavour even the rice was pale white with no flavour

Had a delivery. First try from here and will be the last! The owner/cheff needs a slap to be honest if they think this food is good enough.I called to ask if I get chicken in the chicken balls or egg in the egg fried rice and they said if we sent more to replace they will be the same. Instead they sent something else of the value to replace and that itself was trash! Never again.

Never again, absolutely disgusting house special curry, thick congealed, lacking in ingredients, egg fried rice was also lacking in egg. Only used because they do delivery which on the plus side was prompt.

Bloody awful!! This is quite possibly the worst Chinese takeaway we’ve ever had. An estimate of 45 mins wait was given and after an hour and ten minutes of waiting, I called to see where the order was. They told me it hadn’t even been cooked yet. Fast forward another twenty five minutes and the order arrived…Luke warm, congealed, chicken balls looked like they’d been warmed up several times with the batter all dried out, and every bit of it was extremely greasy..so much so it ended up in the bin. Will never order from here again!

Never again will we order from this restaurant. Our order was 2 hours late and when we tried to contact them they told us our food was with the driver. 30 minutes later still no food. Contacted them again and the staff were extremely rude to us. We did not recieve the order in the end and have had to apply for a refund through just eat. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS RESTAURANT!!!

Ordered a chinese last night arrived 6.25 had the starter then went onto main course at 6.355 which was incorrect. Rang golden bamboo explained their mistake and was asked why had we left it 1 hour to complain advised him it was only 10 mins he was really rude and insisted an hour. Asked him what they were going to do about their mistake and he hung up on me. Disgusting

Think this was the 2nd time from here, ordered through Just Eat, no issues, arrived on time good value for money, not our usual place but would order again ...👍

Ordered tonight first time in ages and it was absolutely amazing, ordering was easy price was fab amount of food was amazing and delivered in amazing time so quick I didn’t even have drivers tip ready feel bad now because everything was amazing

OK so, I have seen this place has some mixed reviews. In my honets opinion, the food is very good. We have used the 4-5 times now. In all honesty I think the best option is to order online and collect. Delivery has been scretchy in the past, with forgotten things so have to wait to be redelivered. The staff are friendly enough, but haven't really had any other interaction with them other than when collecting. So overall the food is nice, the prices are OK and the staff are friendly. But probably easier to collect.

best Chinese around. never had a bad meal and been going there for years. just had to edit my comment .places an order at 8.20 pm just had to call them asking where my order was to be told its not done and will be another 30 min. so an 1 hour and 40 min to deliver food 3 miles is not on

Ordered from golden bamboo and the food came an hour and a half after ordering! Started eating chicken satay and swallowed it and pulled the next part apart and the chicken was raw!! Phoned them to complain and they said they can give a 20% discount on our next order, I told them we wouldn’t be ordering from them again and that I wanted the full refund back and they got stroppy on the phone saying they will send money through the post, I explained I wasn’t living at the address the food was delivered to and they said we are too busy to deal with this now and they will call me back, still no phone call, the customer service is shocking the people are rude, do not order from this takeaway ever! This is a serious issue and they should be able to take criticism and not shout at there customers and then put the phone down ! Environmental health will be informed about this. Not happy at all ! Eventually ended up calling them back to discuss it further and was told by the delivery man that we had to contact just eat to get a refund and to take the complaint further. the only good point I have to make was the delivery man and the just eat complaints team was really helpful.
