Great fish and chips. Fantastic menu including I noticed Steak Canadian. Offers hake as well as haddock and cod. Batter was good. It’s strange that I’ve never dropped in here before given its proximity to where I live. Could now become my now local.

Fish always good and tasty. Chips always underdone and anaemic. Pity as it is walking distance from my own home, but will go somewhere else to get well cooked chips

Local chippy while on vacation from the US. Ate from here more times than I care to admit in the three weeks I was there and was not disappointed once! Skipped all over the menu and everything I had was as good as it gets.

Just moved into the area and was it was the best around. Staff are very friendly and the shop is really clean and modern. The fish and chips certainly lived up to it's reputation, very good taste, will be going back 😁

Pre-ordered but then had to wait while people came in after me and got served. No system inside for online orders it seems.

Staff are wonderful and know how to have the perfect system in place so queues are reduced fast and food is always hit and fresh!

As someone with celiac disease, it makes a big difference being able to get affordable hot food so nearby me, since usually my options are very limited. I appreciate them hooking me up. They're very sweet in there as well and the fish and batter quality is very good, consistently very tasty. To be honest, I don't even like fish and chips in general! But they make it so well that it's tasty comfort food even to me. By the way, if you've ever been in past years and had a subpar experience I'd recommend trying it again, it's a lot different to how it used to be.

The place looked clean and well kept. Server was efficient and chatty. Portion size was fine, fish was ok, chips were ok, peas were ok, gravy was ok. Just a few ancient blackish chips in the meal caused me to knock a star off.

I had steak pudding, chips and gravy. It was nice, piping hot. It would have been nice if the pudding wasn't smooshed but only a small nitpick!

I go here infrequently but the food has taken a recent rise in quality. Chips are first class. I think the addition of the chip van on Kingsfold drive and it's utterly tasteless chips has made them up the game here. They're friendly the food is good it's accessible what else do you want it's a chippy? 😃

I'm editing my review from last year because I've just been in to get fish and chips for the first time since that review and it looks like the place has had an overhaul. I'm just eating fish chips peas and curry sauce now and it's absolutely beautiful 👍👍👍 Godwin's used to be the best place around for fish and chips. There were very few people there and I wondered why. However when we got home we soon realised exactly why - it was probably one of the worst fish and chips we had. The whole meal was cold very salty, no vinegar, the chips were very small, more like bits, and the cheese and onion pie was about an inch thick. The fish was stuck to the paper so when I tried to put it on the plate it all fell apart in pieces. Even the sausage I got for the dogs was cold. I would have brought it back but I couldn't be bothered and we wouldn't have been offered anything better anyway. No wonder there was no queue. I would just like to add it was a disgrace that we had to wait outside in the cold when there was plenty of room away from the hatch where you had to order and there were no customers there anyway!

Food and service is great. The only issues are the variance in portion sizes, one day a large chips can go between 4 people and another it can only feed one person

Nice fish and chips! It’s such a shame they can’t read an order properly! The last thing you need on a Friday night after the week from hell is to get home and realise you are a large chips short! Once forgivable but it has happened on several occasions! 😫

I have tried many fish and chip shops but this is by the far the best. They also have a great ordering system (which they have continued post Covid). The lightly battered haddock is superb & the chips are always so tasty and non-greasy. The staff are always efficient & friendly too. I honestly wouldn't go anywhere else in the area.

Food is mediocre and expensive. All three of us were ill after eating here.

Best chippy ever in my 58 years. No other I've been to in my life comes close! The food is absolutely spot on for me,just the way I like it. You can also pre order your food online. So many options as well. I get more than enough for me when I order the small portions. It's great to actually be able to get a small portion because most eateries call it a child's portion and won't allow adults to buy it.

Just bought 2 fish for separate people and a large chips and a peas and curry. The lady who was serving me put the fish together when I told her 3 times to separate them but she ignored me then when I asked if I could have them wrapped in paper as I live in new Longton she said no as no paper was ordered. Her attitude was very rude and I have been coming here for over 20 years and if she had not sorted the curry I would have asked for my money back and gone elsewhere. I will never go again

Use to be my go to fish and chip shop when I lived in the area, and still try and make a stop when I'm around, but severely disappointed with my service today. Don't bother pre ordering, it doesn't mean you get your order quicker. Went in through the signposted door for collection and then stood there for 5 to 10 minutes while they served everyone else and including lots of people that came in after me. It wasn't even busy. Very nearly gave up and went to the back of the normal queue as I was being completely ignored. I then got home and opened my cheesy chips to see a really long lovely green hair in my melted cheese, which also happened to be the hair colour of the woman on the till. They should be wearing hair nets. I should have taken it back but instead will be avoiding this place in the future.

Came highly recommended and was fortunate to be in the area 🌈...being an ambulance 🚑 crew...we find time to eat generally halted by erratic schedules 📅...but how surprising when we arrived the cue said it all 🤭😷yet how thought full we're staff and local people to allow me to step up to the front of the counter 😀 and be served best sausage and chips...certainly touched a nerve.☺️....food Definitely hit the spot 😀 😉...Thank You and all your customers I felt had hearts of gold 🏆

Amazing fish and chips, I think the best in Preston... try to believe...

"do I want salt and vinegar?" I was asked twice. "Just on the chips please," I replied both times. I got none. The fish I got was mostly batter and didn't seem to be all the same fish what there was, and it was very dried out. I'd advise you never to be the last customer of the day at this place. Massively underwhelmed. Most of the fish went in the bin.

I used to love Godwins but it's certainly not what it used to be. Not the first time I've had an unpleasant experience here, staff are just rude. Portions are so small and chips are undercooked. About a year ago they weren't very nice to a family member of mine who has learning disabilities. At the time had only just gained confidence in going out places independently. He had come home extremely upset after being called names by a member of staff and hasnt had the confidence to go back since. I had addressed the issue with the shop but had no response.

They are using a priority queue for online orders. I didn't order online as I was just driving by. After waiting for half an hour queue didn't move so I went elsewhere.

Super organised, got my walk in order within minutes of arriving, even though there was a queue of people in front. The staff are really super and the fish and chips are delicious so is the furry sauce and mushy peas. Highly recommend you go!!!

This was our first food takeaway since lockdown. Very disappointing, agree with last review. Very greasy, too much batter on dry fish wafer thin in places too. Chips were bitty and soggy. Sorry disappointed. And would have liked to see servers and fryer wearing face masks.

I have just been for our tea wish I hadnt bothered the fish was all batter and the chips were disgusting all hard bits not a full chip in the whole serving If I had,nt put the car in the garage I would have gone back with them dont even think the seagulls would enjoy worse £8..70p I have spent
