My husband and I stayed here in 2015 and I returned with my parents in August 2024- both times were lovely. The large lodge was as wonderful- very comfortable, well-equipped, and warm, and an excellent base for wonderful walks. Food in the pub was lovely, and service is friendly, warm, and kind. I hope to be back sooner rather than later!

Just got back from such a lovely and relaxing stay at Angus lodge. The lodge was clean and tidy and the sauna and hot tub were perfect - we used them daily! There are lovely walks all around, we did the trek up to Loch Brandy and spent hours at the Corrie Fee nature reserve just down the road. The staff are also really friendly and chatty, and the climbers bar is really cosy! Our only slight criticisms were that it would be nice if the cabins were a bit more ‘homely’, especially as they’re described as luxury. Nice touches like board games, cards, blankets on the sofa etc would make a huge difference. Also things like cooking oil and condiments would be ideal as these are things you don’t really typically carry with you. The check in and check out times are also a bit of a shame as you can’t check in until 5pm and by then the whole day has gone, and a check out time of 9:30am means that for a Monday-Friday stay you only really get Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday. However we understand it’s likely due to the hot tub maintenance needed between guests. Regardless we had such a lovely time and would recommend it.

This was our first time here and we will definitely be back. Be advised you need to book a table, it is a very popular place

Just back from a fantastic 4 night stay in a hideaway lodge. The lodge is beautiful, clean, kitted out with everything you could need, Wifi is really good and managed to stream Prime with no problems. Hot tub was spotless. Bed was really comfy and the apartment was nice and cosy without being stuffy. Hotel bar & food were lovely too. Brilliant menu choices, quality of food spot on ate there 3 nights and enjoyed it every time. Beer was good too! Service was amazing, everyone is really friendly and helpful.

We were staying in the area for a week and decided to book an overnight stay for my wife's birthday. It's a lovely hotel in a perfect location. Staff were very friendly and helpful, a really cosy bar area and the brandy bothy where you can eat and take your dog. Food was excellent and very reasonably priced. We stayed in a steading room which are dog friendly, the room was immaculately clean and very warm and cosy. Breakfast was also excellent. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Arrived at our Lodge (Doll) and were so pleased how well equipped and spotlessly clean it was..we’re told the hot tub would take a couple of hours to reach temp. Alas it didn’t heat up at all so we spoke to the manager who sent the maintenance guy but he couldn’t fix it either, to cut a long story we were without this facility until after 8 pm the following evening.. needless to say we were quite cross and reported this to the manager who offered to pay for our Sunday lunch and issue us with a voucher towards another visit. So the problem was handled well in the end. The staff in the very dog friendly bar/restaurant were attentive and friendly. The food was presented promptly and good portions too at reasonable prices. Little extra touches like the bottle of fizz, tea, coffee, milk, sugar and slippers were a lovely surprise. The lodge had a full washer/dryer and dishwasher complete with the detergents for both provided. Plenty of crockery and food prep utensils, nice bathroom products and plenty of towels.. After a bit of a blip with the hot tub the rest of our stay was marvellous. Would highly recommend a visit to this beautiful area in these superb lodges with great staff

We stayed in the Corrie Lodge for a 3 night break. Lodge was excellent and spotless on arrival. Facilities in Lodge were great and of a high standard. Hot tub was great. We ate Fri and Sat evening in Glen Clova Hotel itself, food was nice but its advisable to book. Great area for walking etc. and we managed 4 hours fishing at the trout pong owned by the hotel (catch and release permit was £15 which was good). All in all a great 3 nights away and a late check out on departure day was a welcome bonus. Friendly staff. Thoroughly recommend.

We have ate here several times over the years and previously have enjoyed nice “country like” home made meals. Unfortunately the food was extremely disappointing on this occasion, the menu itself was disappointing with none of your usual favorites like steak pie or fish and chips! We ordered burgers, on arrival the presentation was fine, the chips were not home made like they used to be but tasted OK. The burgers were awful, they certainly did not taste like beef (tasted better from ice land) they had a very strange dense texture and were overly pink and there was that much mayonnaise that the rolls were soggy. My partner is by no means fussy and he even commented on how bad they were. I think whoever runs the restaurant really needs to take a look at what they are serving. Staff were friendly and lovely surroundings but food is appalling, such a waste and disappointment as this is such a lovely little getaway!

10/10 stay in Corrie Lodge for a long weekend. We were able to check in at 3pm which was much better. Check in/out was easy and the lodge was well equipped with everything you need. Modern and spacious as well as private. Easy access to walks and cycling. We used the hot tub daily and appreciated all the extras like tea, coffee, sugar, fresh milk, Prosecco, orange juice and the basic cleaning items, washing up liquid, dish washer tablets, laundry liquid, cling film and tin foil. Our only complaint was the lodge was just far too hot, we had snow and we were still roasting in shorts and t-shirts. There was a lot of animal hair on the floor, our socks were covered, the sauna didn’t work but we never actually called maintenance as we weren’t overly fussed and the only thing missing is a pizza cutter! Fabulous stay and will return when the restaurant is open and will recommend to others.

We stayed in one of the four person lodges which was lovely. We had every kind of weather you can imagine from snow to heavy rain and strong winds all in one week. The lane leading to the hotel and lodges is around 5 miles long so you will be staying as remote as you can imagine. We thought we were lost but persevered in the dark and were pleased to see the lights of the hotel on a snowy icy evening. The food was great in the hotel but we did take our own food too. The New Years Eve party was excellent and lived up to expectations. Staff were top notch too. We wouldn’t hesitate to return. Missing it already 😊

Just returned from a weeks stay. We hired one of the large lodges which was fantastic with stunning views. Everything was faultless from check in to check out. We attended the Hogmanay celebrations where we had an excellent meal and some fine traditional Scottish entertainment. The hotel is quite a drive up the Glen along a narrow lane but vey little traffic so not too bad. The walking in the area is fantastic and the wildlife amazing with Eagles Deer and Kites around every day. Food in the Hotel was very good and the portions generous - we ate 3 times and we’re not disappointed. Service is generally very good though at times there was a wait fir someone to attend the bar. We had a pleasant day trip to Arbroath which took a couple of hours there and back. In all our party of six had a wonderful time and would recommend the Glen Glova Hotel and Lodges

Arrived on the Monday the 2nd of January, after a long drive. It wasn’t until I went to check in that I was told because I was staying in a lodge check in isn’t until 5 pm. That was fine because we went and had a cup of tea in the bar, served by Elise lovely girl and very attentive. We were ushered by the manager to say our lodge was ready early, yes! We’re in. The lodge was great everything you needed and a hot tub and a sauna, which we couldn’t use due to increasing electricity we were told after we booked and before we arrived which was abit poor as we had paid for it? Anyway that night we met up with friends in the bar for drinks and food. Elise was serving and everything was great, good company and good beer. We went out the Tuesday for food, but Wednesday we met up with friends again in the bar for food and drinks. We both got our wires crossed as to who was booking, so eventually after some discussion we got a table in the brothy. We talked and eat and drank, we didn’t have Elise this time it was Alex serving us. All was good until we got kicked out of the bothy and we were told to go sit in the bar? Ok I thought but why? Again I was told to save on electricity? We were ushered into the bar, not a mention if we wanted a dessert, my wife wanted a coffee and was told the coffee machine was broken? I did ask if they had a kettle I was told no? Which I thought was abit off! We were all a bit taken back how different 2 nights could be in the same bar? Anyway after paying the bill which wasn’t a small one we left, if that’s the way you treat people who spend then count me out. And to top it all today we left and had to check out at 09.30 !!! Oh and if you are staying in a lodge you can’t charge to your room, which was abit off, you can if you’re staying in the hotel? Get your act together Glen Clova Hotel

The procedures and precautions they have in place in order to keep everyone as safe as possible from Covid and still enable everyone to enjoy their visit to the Hotel ,Lodges, and of course the Glens is second to none. Housekeeping is impeccable as is the daily checking of the lodge hot- tub which as you will see from the photo is definitely fabulous even in November. Just returned from a wonderfully relaxing 4 night stay at Glen Clova. We hadn’t planned to visit but our holiday in Wales was cancelled at the last minute due to a change in lockdown restrictions. We were lucky to get a last minute booking for Glen Clova and it couldn’t have been more perfect. On arrival the lodge was superbly clean which was reassuring when travelling during the pandemic. There was a bottle of Prosecco cooling in the fridge which was a nice touch and the sun was shining. We ate in the hotel on one night and the food was fantastic! Scallops to start and venison for main. Both were delicious and cooked perfectly. The restaurant had other diners but all were well spaced out to ensure physical distancing and again everything looked impeccably clean. The staff were all wearing face masks but this didn’t take away from their friendliness and willingness to chat to customers. Everyone who worked there was lovely and so helpful. There are lots of wonderful walks nearby and our dog enjoyed the holiday as much as us. The walk up to Loch Brandy was fabulous if a little tough on the knees coming down. I was glad we had set our early as it was getting a lot busier on the hill as we were on our way down.Nearby Glen Doll has some fantastic walks too especially the views along the river and up to Corrie Fee. This was definitely a highlight for me and even my usually reluctant to walk 4 year old didn’t complain once but enjoyed splashing in the small streams along the woodland walk. The trip was perfect and we even went online on the last night to extend our stay. Unfortunately but unsurprisingly it was already fully booked. Although we were initially disappointed that our trip to Wales was cancelled, any disappointment was short lived after we arrived here. And it was all within an hours drive from us rather than the 6 hour drive to Wales. We will definitely be back again very soon.

Stayed in Doll Lodge which is lovely. Unfortunately the underfloor heating was on for days on end in heatwave which was unbearable. Supply and demand generator outside bedroom window on for the duration. We ended up slepping in living room as this was the only room with air con. The air con is to heat rooms but we were using to cool down (engineer visited twice at our insistance who explained the function of air con units). After disputing with management we were offered a free meal. Enginner couldn't resolve issue so we spent another 2 days this time with no hot water and heating still on as a part for system was reqd. After complaining again the manager said he would visit lodge after he finished serving restaurant customers and called his family. He didn't appear. We continued to endure the conditions. This meant all bar 1st night we slept in living room and last night. On leaving day we were woken at 7.10am with Hot tub being drained. Bin bags were never removed. For all of this we received a free meal after day 3. No one was interested and we haven't received any further communication having said our complaint would be considered.Jonathan Benton

Had a very relaxing stay at these gorgeous lodges. Very comfortable and spacious (we had 2 dogs with us). It was great to find milk, juice and a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge for our arrival as it is almost an hour round trip to the nearest shops. However; that is part of the appeal..it’s secluded location set amongst the hills. Amazing walks at nearby Glen Doll and right on your doorstep- Loch Brandy. The hotel serves nice food if you get fed up self catering. A couple of points worth mentioning is that it stated there was an enclosed area at the lodge for dogs but it was open at one end...we used the bins to block the gap! If you’re dogs have good recall this won’t be a problem!! Lastly, as a huge animal lover I was upset to witness an elderly lady mistreat a young collie belonging to the gamekeeper (the hotel and farm are owned by the same people). She obviously had the job of walking it daily, yanking it all the time on a choke lead and carrying a small stick to flick it with if it put a foot wrong. Lovely friendly dog having the spirit knocked out of it. Will probably still give years of loyal service despite its treatment

The menu was quite good with a variety of dishes on offer, and the service was slick. The prices were reasonable too considering theres absolutely no competition nearby. Maybe some of the staff do need a wee reminder about the social distancing rules though as there were a couple of accessions where I had to step back to make sure they didn't come too close to me when walking past me! We will definately go back when we are in the area walking in the future. X

The hotel is in a fab location for walking up to loch brandy and a great stopping place to reward yourself after the walk. It’s £5 to park in the car park but you can redeem this off food/drink over £10 in the hotel so it’s a no brainer really. Appreciate things are a little unusual due to Covid but the queuing was pretty long considering the number of people in front of us and it was a shame we couldn’t sit inside to eat with our dog as I know there’s usually a lovely little snug area which is dog friendly. So she had to go back in the car whilst we are inside at it was quite cold and windy. One of the male staff also pushed past us as we stood in the doorway which made us a little uneasy due to social distancing etc. Anyway, the food was pretty good, and the other staff were all really friendly. I’d like to go back again once things are a bit normal and we can relax inside.

Decided at the very last minute to have a post - lock down getaway to one of my favourite places on earth! It's been rubbish having to both work full time, plus home school and then having nowhere to go on our days off, so I figured we all deserved a break. My stepson came along with us, even though we warned him about there being no WiFi. Well, he brought his laptop anyway and we were all surprised to find there was WiFi in our lodge! He got settled into his room and we didn't see him for four days! Bliss! We've been here many times before and it has always been a firm 10/10 - we wouldn't keep returning otherwise. But having Wi-Fi in the lodges takes it off the scale! I don't know if it's a permanent thing or if it's in all of the lodges, given the location it must have cost a fortune to install. The place is amazing without any connection to the outside world, but not having to climb half way up to Loch Brandy to check your WhatsApp was a gamechanger for us. The hotel wasn't allowed to open at the time we were there, but we knew that before we booked. I LOVE the climbers bar and the dog is usually spoiled by the staff and guests, so I missed that this time. The food is amazing and you absolutely MUST visit. If you're worried about hygiene in the current climate, be assured the cleanliness at Glen Clova Hotel & Lodges is top notch. I have never found even a spec of dust in any of the lodges I've stayed in and they always smell of delightful woody freshness. The housekeeping do an absolutely amazing job! The walk up to Loch Brandy is challenging but totally worth it. You can have a drive to glen doll or a walk along to the fishing lake. Just be sure to keep your dog on a lead. For the four days we were there, my dog's diet was 50% sheep poop! He had a great time watching the birds and the sheep out the window of the lodge. Given the uncertainty around travelling abroad, I'll probably be sticking to staycations for the next couple of years and it will always be Glen Clova for me. Honestly, this place is out of this world and is worth every penny. If you're going to go anywhere, go here and you won't have any regrets.

We spent an amazing 3 nights with friends in one of the 3 bedroom Lodges for my 60th Birthday. The Lodges were very spacious and exceptionally clean. We were pleasantly suprised with all the extras that had been provided for us....Cleaning Products, Tin Foil, Cling Film, Tea, Coffee, Sugar, Milk, Orange Juice, Salt Pepper, Cutlery, Dishes, Glasses, Crockery, Pans......the list was endless. Our Sauna wasn't working and although the hotel were very quick in trying to fix things it still didn't work, however the Hot Tub was amazing and well used. We stayed in the upstairs room with a double bed and the room itself was slightly smaller than the other 2 bedrooms, however it did have a separate shower and toilet within the living area . The downstairs bedrooms were larger with twin beds and had en-suite facilities. The kitchen area was more than adequate. The Hotel was a 2 minute walk away and we enjoyed a couple of drinks around the wood burning fire in the bar. All the staff were very helpful, polite and welcoming. we will definitely be going back there for another chillax break.

We enjoyed a cosy and personal experience having afternoon tea at Glen Clova. I found the selection of both savoury and sweet elements to be well-made and presented: clearly fresh and homemade by staff who welcomed us and described the different components, unique twists on some aspects such as a pheasant and bacon finger sandwich. I often find pheasant too gamey but this was my favourite of the sandwiches, so that's saying a lot! The pastries were lovingly presented, and you could see the skill and thought that went into delicacies like the profiteroles and macaroons. I would definitely recommend this experience if you will be in the area, but be advised that the restaurant requests advance bookings for afternoon tea of at least a day or two ahead of time - do call to check.

Visited after a long walk mid week and as walk was longer than expected it was amazing to see food was served all day. Also the log burners we actually on and making the place cosy. Just one person serving on a Wednesday and he was very efficient and attentive, really good service. So often when you go into a pub or restaurant the only veggie option is a risotto, if the Fife arms in braemar you even have to ask for it without parmesan to make it veggie and apparently it's still ok to label it veggie even though it's not! Anyway none of those issues here as plenty of genuine choice which makes an amazing change. My wife had Cauliflower steak and I had a vegan burger, both really good, especially the steak!Thank you for offering some thought to the vegetarian options, it is really appreciated and we will be back.

The standard of accommodation was very high and the lodge was spotless (our 9-month old baby was crawling on the floor and didn’t have dusty knees afterwards!). The lodge is very spacious with plenty of room for a cot bed in the enormous bedroom and play area in the open-plan living room / kitchen. There’s a dishwasher and washing machine too. The kitchen is extremely well supplied, there’s even tin foil and cling film (e.g. for your sandwiches for hillwalking). The hot tub is always on so it’s ready for you to hop in whenever you want, you literally just have to take the cover off. It is drained and cleaned after every check-out so again, very clean. Reception staff were very helpful and were able to sell us some milk as we had forgotten ours (it’s a 20-mins drive to the nearest shop). We ate dinner in the restaurant one evening and enjoyed that. We also had a coffee another day and used the WiFi for a few tasks (we were perfectly happy with WiFi only being available in the hotel building, not the lodges). We would highly recommend these lodges and look forward to returning maybe next year. Our activities included: hillwalking (both low level to Corrie Fee, and 2 Munros), J.M. Barrie’s birthplace in Kirriemuir, lunch at The Wee Bear (Lodge at Lochside, Lintrathen), Dunnottar Castle and Glamis Castle.

The staff were friendly, but the service was extremely slow--which wouldn't have been so bad if the food was worth waiting for, which it wasn't. I left most of my meal. If you are a hiker with an enormous appetite then this establishment will fill a need. But if you are a discerning customer looking for something a little bit special then give the Glen Clova Hotel a miss and drive the 12 miles to The Drovers Inn at Memus. If you're happy with fish and chips drive another 12 miles on from there to the Tuck Inn at Edzell.

After a days walking in glen doll we arrived to stay at the clova hotel . We were staying in the steading in the room named Cairn and were greeted by friendly staff at reception . The room was beautiful and fresh having recently been done up and was to a very high standard . The room was spacious and came with everything you could need from a hairdryer to iron and ironing board and wonderful tea and coffee making facilities with a lovely choice of biscuits.

My wife Diane has not long ago had a hip operation and she has not been able to sit on chairs less than 20 inches and today is her first meal out since the op and we were welcomed by ANGUS and we sat in the restaurant and he gave us the menu and we chose haddock etc and asked if it could be put on a plate not in a wooden box and along it came on a plate by one of the female staff who welcomed my wife back to the hotel as she remembered her before the op this year .

We went to Corrie Fee Nature Reserve to hike. Glen Clova Hotel is the only place around for food, so we were not expecting very much. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. Both the venison burger and the Kentucky fired pheasant burger were nice and juicy, not over cooked. We will definitely be back!!

We stayed here at the beginning of March in the dog friendly steading. Overall the experience was great, beautiful walks, cosy bar with fire & lovely food. There are however a couple of draw backs, the walls in the steading are paper thin & you can hear your neighbours conversations. I think this might be due to the lack of carpets. Noise really does travel. There is also no phone signal or WiFi which for us at the time was a bit of a problem as we had a family member in hospital but no way to be contacted. We would absolutely stay here again, the views are spectacular and you really do feel relaxed. I would also recommend the Glen Clova ale, reasonable price for a tasty beverage :)

We have eaten several times at this unique location. There is nothing better than a bracing hill walk in the beautiful Angus glens followed by a hearty lunch or dinner at the Clova. However my lunch last Saturday with my adult daughter was marred by the general lack of customer service - staff seemed harassed and flew in and out of the various doors like an episode of Fawlty Towers.

Went up clova today - intending to get a bowl of soup / sandwich - something light...only soup on the menu was curried cauliflower!!!! Menu very 'posh' - fine cuisine and some just too fine and expensive. Even sandwiches very limited - blt plus one other I cannot recall.... No sign of something as simple as a Cheese sandwich / sausage roll/ bowl of chis. Lovely location, plenty of walking etc but I you just want a snack bring your own..

Not sure why other reviews have been so negative as we had an excellent visit. Delighted with our comfy and well appointed twin room in 'The Steading' which has been recently decorated. They are in the process of putting up photos of the local area which I'm sure will add even more character. We then headed over to the main hotel where we had drinks and a delicious dinner in the cosy bar area. Couldn't fault a single thing - the food was delicious and staff were all friendly and extremely helpful. Breakfast was super too and set us up for a magical walk on snowy paths up to nearby Corrie Fee. Will definitely return.

A delicious meal for four in the hotel restaurant before refreshing hill and forrest walks. The cosy atmosphere and Scottish themed menu made this a meal to remember. Our experience confirmd the restaurant's stated aim: "Glen Clova is all about the quality of local and seasonal produce." I loved the Cullen Skink and enjoyed every spoonful of this traditional Scottish treat: (Cullen skink is a thick Scottish soup made of smoked haddock, cream, potatoes and onions.) The location of Glen Clova is lovely with stunning scenery and fabulous Highland views all around.

Use this for coffee and scones after a day in the hills. Lovely spot - outdoor seating when weather permits - and a nice bar area inside. Nice coffee and scones but scones were a bit slow appearing - presumably as they seemed to come from the kitchen not the bar.

The starter was faultless as was the main course. The young man who served us was also faultless. Then came the dessert. My husband wanted nothing. I fancied sticky toffee pudding which the menu said came with a brandy basket toffee sauce ice cream etc. There was no toffee sauce. No brandy basket. The ice cream was there and something that looked like a lining of custard which I hate. I didn't care about the basket but I wanted the toffee sauce. My husband wanted to say nothing. Just not return. I felt that to be fair I should let them know something was wrong. We complained to two people. They both apologised. I felt we shouldn't have had to pay for it even though my husband ate most of it. If they can't produce whats described on the menu they should say its no longer available. Spoiled our visit.

I feel that as they knew there was a large party in they should have enough staff to cover for other customers as there was quite a few left un happy the time we were there.so sad as they are always advertising on the radio but if they can,t offer u service when u get there ir is not much good and will loose alot of custom.

Angus County has its fair share of quality rest stops for locals and visitors alike, and they come in many guises ... but The Clova Hotel can truly be right for so many different things. Recently substantially refurbished and expanded in size, this beautifully situated enterprise is a must-see attraction for anyone who loves the glens, walking, cycling, even driving, fishing and climbing to name but a few activities within grasp and reach if this landmark spot. We stopped here, this Wednesday, having had a slow run up the loop-road glen taking photographs and enjoying the truly majestic scenery on such an inviting and warmly splendid day. The hotel was busy and we were well impressed by both the refurbishments, the ambience, the drinks, the service and food.

We fully understand you’ve a business to run, but as regulars to the area with friends and or family, it’s very disappointing to find out yet again we can’t have food because weddings take priority over everything else. Could you put a calendar up on your FB page or website with your wedding days on? At least walkers, day trippers, regulars and the rest of us could plan ahead slightly.

Have been here several times in the past and the foods been excellent. Don't know what happened this time. Four of us out for an evening meal and drinks. Out of 4 drinks ordered they only got one drink right. All the food was barely warm. 3 of us had pheasant for a starter. It looked like turkey and tasted of nothing and the lentils weren't cooked. Burger was good, chips awful and the fish was served in a box, had to ask for a plate. Lamb dish was just fat and the chicken was okay but the sauce was tasteless and the mash tasted like it was out of a packet. 3 of us had sticky toffee pudding. It tasted okay but it was just a piece of dry cake. Won't be back.

Last Friday saw neither our first nor our last visit to this lovely place. Great setting, scenery and atmosphere. Welcomed and quickly served by friendly staff who brought us very tasty, freshly prepared and locally sourced food. We had not been to the Glen Clova Hotel for quite a while but we had a walk then popped in for lunch. The hotel has two bars and two restaurants. We were in the main bar and dining room. Recently refurbished the main dining room is bright and nicely furnished. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. The menu and daily specials are all tempting and nicely priced. We both ate from the specials menu and our meal was generously portioned and delicious. If you are into country walks or just like to dine in pleasant surroundings this is a real gem. The hotel offers a great deal more for anyone keen on outdoor activities and a visit to their website would give more detail than I can give here.

Attached to the Forfar Golf Driving Range, this cafe/restaurant is always busy and, for some reason, despite it being carpeted, is usually quite noisy! The menu is fairly standard with filled rolls, sandwiches, paninis, soup, baked potatoes etc. Prices are reasonable and the service is usually very good. It is light and airy due to the large windows at one end. I like it in part, as I can see the rural house I grew up in from it in the distance.
