Gills Fry Fry in County Durham

I used to love this place but the last twice the texture and taste of the fish seemed really odd. Are they serving something other than cod or haddock ? Or maybe its just me. Will not order their fish again.

2nd time to Gills! 1st time was by chance. 2nd time was by absolute inclusion in the itinerary from day 1! Fabulous food! Fish and Chips are the best by far! Mmmm! Crisp, delicious, huge fish that was delicious! Chips are golden bits of heaven. The kebab was out of this world (couldn't let my wife eat all of it!!!). Going to be back again! My happy place!

The place was packed so got a takeaway. I had cod and chips and hubby had fish bites and chips. & slush puppy. All for £20 Was absolutely delicious There 5* rating is deserved. I totally recommend.

Lovely, immaculate restaurant, friendly staff. Fish and chips were excellent, perfect sized portion and all cooked fresh to order. Would highly recommend and at a very reasonable price.

Went to Gills tonight for fish and chips and we were a bit worried with the competition they have now but do you know what it was absolutely beautiful . It was as good as it was a few years ago when we last visited . Thick chunky fish in a light crispy batter and lovely chips , you’ve got to try the curry sauce and the chilli sauce too , much much better than the new one up the road that had just come to seaham ! The staff were really nice too . Thank you we will be back

Just had mixed kebab wrap. Chicken kebab was pink in middle. My work colleagues was pink too. Won't be going there again.

Order quite alot online absolutely beautiful food. Shame I can't say the same about staff. Girl with glasses stinking attitude would not recommend going inside shop not a nice environment, ended up walking out and shop missing out on £70 order. gutted cause I did enjoy gills they have lost a good customer.

Bought a gourmet burger and fish n chips. There was a bit of a wait but that shows the food was cooked fresh. The fish was delicious!

Paid to sit in but had to leave as told they had no toilet for my child but still had to wait for food. No apology. Not really acceptable when sitting in knowing there was no where else open.

Don’t know if this fish shop is under new management but the quality and customer service has gone down . Use to be a good place but the past few month the quality is awful and the staff are plan rude. There are two other fish and chip shops on the seafront so no more Gills

My wife was allowed to use the staff toilet and said the kitchen was super clean. Our fish and chips were fresh and batter light. Portion size good.

Ordered 10inch pizza but got delivered 12inch thank you very good pizza

The chips where good but the pizza was disappointing looked like a cheap frozen pizza and tasted like one too , will go some where else next time

Great fish, great pizzas, kebabs are nice but you really need to change your potato/chip supplier they have a funny taste to them and are quite gritty other than your chips the food is spot on

gills is a local favourite, even our vegetarian friend was super happy with the quality, always our first choice!

Order arrived later that the time given by Just eat. When it arrived it was cold. Chips were swimming in grease. The parmo was awful. The price has increased so much but the quality has gone downhill. 80% of the dish went in the bin. Wont be ordering again

As usual the fish and chips from Gills Fry Fry were great.

Order from here for years now, always lovely food. However every order i have placed over the past few months (quite often) ive had orders missing items that have been bought through online system. Seems a bit rubbish considering the nice food and i spend £40 a shot. NO one likeS paying for things they dont get

Genuinely very impressed with the food. I never eat donor kebab meat these days but even that is great here. Pizzas are delish too and priced very reasonably, thanks!

My friend and I visited the place over a week ago. None of us had ever been in this place before. Gill's looked good outside and inside (only a bit of sauce on one table), but it is a modern-looking place with a nice design. I don't understand such an unwelcoming customer service standard. I added "sitting in" after ordering. I was given no receipt. I said, "Thank you", and I received silence. They should have explained how the ordering process works there. We paid separately. I saw how my friend also expected a receipt, and the employee kept it—no tracking numbers were given. We sat at the clean and empty table (a lot of them were empty). Someone shouted my order, so I collected it and returned to the table. Then, somebody shouted my friend's order. He took it, and while he walked towards me, someone else shouted: "It costs extra to eat in". It looked like their idea was not to offer food to eat inside—such an awkward standard of providing service to new customers. I ate my burger outside- it was ok. My friend complained about sandy fries and threw the box in the bin. I will never come back there.

The fish was so greasy but without the batter was a chunky piece but very tasteless. The chips were awful it's as if they were cooked and kept warm for a few hours. Not one crunchy chip even the scrap ones were chewy. The battered burger was cooked in old oil and tasted awful. Would recommend putting up your own salt and vinegar on. The staff just waved over them I think I had seven grains of salt and one drop of vinegar. Very pricey for the meals.

Hot, fresh and tasty. Really nice food.

Whilst the food is great and the service is relatively quick some of the staff are miserable which lets the atmosphere down. It’s a shame because there isn’t anything to fault about the quality of the food and the speed of service.

The only place Iv been going to regularly in the last 10 years iv lived in Seaham. Best pizza's in the region by a country mile.

Great fish and chips in Seaham. Clean and tidy with a fresh feel inside. Preordered a large order ahead of time as was down on the beach with the wider family (13 of us 😅). They were just finishing up when I arrived to collect at the time they stated, so everything was nice and hot and fresh. Fair to say the large cod is as described, so perfect if you’re hungry but a regular is still a good size. Friendly service from the staff serving (Michelle and Danielle), who even sorted me out a discount which was very kind of them as I’d tried ordering through Just Eat (where there was a promotion on) and had an issue at the payment stage, so I had just phoned it in after that.

The food, service and location were excellent but we sat in and we're served out meals in cartons and tea in paper cups. This is probably normal for this establishment but I'd rather go somewhere with proper crockery

Came in here on a whim just to get something to eat and the fish n chips were some of the best I've had with super crispy batter.

A 40 minute long wait just for 2 regular fish and chips with not much of a queue to receive the worst chips I've ever tasted or tried to eat pure tasteless white spud, the fish was ok but not much to it.

Guys helped me with a special requesr..nice one!

unfortunately the pizza was soggy with what appeared to be water covering most of the pizza making the crush and bottom of the pizza soggy causing everything to fall off was a shame as I couldn't eat any of it I ordered before and the pizza was incredible so really is a shame that it was how it was.

Placed order via Just Eat - arrived 30 minutes late and so unhappy at the quality of food - chips were under cooked, raw and hard that they ended up in rubbish bin

Delivery time was good and food was nice. Although I was missing the drink and the sauce which was a bit annoying but understand if they’re busy it’s easily missed. Hopefully doesn’t happen again.

I had spent a wonderful afternoon with my Son and his new puppy, simply walking along Nose’s Point Beach… we were both a little hungry on completion of the walk, however, had plans for food later. It was my son who suggested Gills, and mentioned they had a great deal on with fish n chips for just an amazing £8.99. He also mr ruined he came here all the time with his Mother and it was lovely. Well that was settled upon quickly and true to his word the food was absolutely DELICIOUS everything you’d expect from a seaside fish m chips… we did again on his suggestion add the homemade tarter sauce… very tasty! However, the very BEST thing about the visit was the quite WONDERFUL service we received from DANNY, whose customers service was OUTSTANDING,… she couldn’t do enough or be more helpful… ably assisted by the very lovely Michelle… You have a GREAT TEAM at Seaham …Excellent Ambassador’s for the Brand. We will certainly be calling in again very soon!

Pizza looked like it had just been thrown into box. The topping had slid off on one side and was stuck on one side of the box lid. It was not very hot either. Hardly any bbq sauce on base. Usually spot on food but very disappointed with this one.

This fry fry has surprisingly good pizza. Steaming hot after freezing my bones at the beach. Delicious! Thank you!

Went in this Saturday afternoon and ordered 3 cod bites and chips with wor lass - not a smile in sight from the girl serving us. Came to 8quid. And a bottle of Coke which cost another £2.20 so 10.20 total Anyways when the food was ready and I went to collect it the lady she said there’s an additional fee for sitting inside although she never said this. Never offered any cutlery for us either. Chips were anemic and could’ve been much crispier - no excuse as they weren’t busy and then proceeded to get hackeys from the elderly women waiting on their food. Fish was crispy. Overpriced for what you receive, sub par customer service and poor atmosphere - not a smile in sight. Won’t come back, Codrophenias never let me down. Up the Mags.

Just had delivery nearly 1hr late but it is busy today but the chips all got put in bin they were all grey !!

order off just eat to gills fish shop Seaham order was for delivery but come up for collection so rang shop to change the order spoke to staff and apologised said they'd sent out 1hr late my order come freezing cold and instead of 2smll fish and chips got fish bites and chips so phoned up and they sent right stuff even tho manager said there wasn't no small fish left.

I am very happy with the order very good customer service a very lovely lady I had that delivered my order and absolutely lovely food the pizza I ordered was hot and tasty just as it should be .

Down here with work a few weeks ago popped in for lunch and had the Kebab special deal, 2 large doners with chips and a great chilli sauce for £9:99. Outstanding value and outstanding quality. Back today for the Pizza deal A 12" and a 10" Pizza for £11:25. Great food and great service. Great service from Vicky ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Me and my girlfriend came in the other day and ordered the fish a chips. The food was unreal and one of the workers Michele were lovely and friendly. She offered us a kind service and was willing to make sure that our time at gills was one to remember. Would deffo recommend and will be back again.

parmo was nice. fish was well cooked but batter was soggy. Battered burgers were so soggy and greasy they were inedible. Big disappointed from last time.
