Over £75 not even in china town London is it that expensive for a set menus for two literally 2 starter plates looked liked the prawn toast and spring rolls where pre pre frozen and tiny. Mains 3 average dishes and a tiny bowl of rice for two people. A soda water is almost £5 hose red tiny glass was almost £7!!! Bill for two people over £100!! Don't just order look carefully at the prices. Felt absolutely robbed. £100!! Felt never have I spent so much on food of such poor quality You could eat at a 5 star restaurant and not a what looks like a cheap average Chinese restaurant. Avoid

Yesterday was my second time visiting Gigi’s so we tried some new things from the menu which did not disappoint! Food nothing special 1 starter, 2 mains, 2 lemonade. £75. Glass of lemonade £7. Never again. Thank you for your reply. We added a 10% tip and we paid £82. So you do not think £3.98 for a glass of Lemonade is not over the top expensive. Or the overpriced food, which was, let's face it, basic Chines fair, true it was very tasty but nothing special? You are without doubt taking advantage of your customers, by pretending it has to do with the rise in the cost of living or inflation. I dislike greedy people who are so quick to take full advantage of a situation. After looking through your reviews, I found it very strange that they are mostly 5 star or 1 star. This makes me think most of the 5-star reviews to be fake, with the 1-star reviews being actually honest reviews. You have gone to a lot of trouble to defend your practices. This for me exposes your second agender of putting profits first before customer satisfaction. You say "Jay Rayner raves about 'fabulours creations' and 'thrilling' dishes at Welsh Chinese reataurant" (Quoted with the spelling mistakes included). Often the food presented to a well know food critic is far superior to that served to the general public. One part of our starter was belly pork or some other animal fat covered in bread crumbs then deep fried. As I have said the true and honest reviews are usually the 1 stars reviews. I stand by my honest review.

We went to Gigi Gao’s for my son’s 11th birthday and had a great time. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and went to extra effort to make my son’s birthday meal special. They even gave us some Chinese lanterns to take with us. Will definitely be coming back next time we’re in Swansea!

Let's start from scratch. Wen ordering food prices are extremely high and very poor quality food (horrible) Not much taste at all ( super dry ) over fried pork bits with NO pork inside at all , just a crisp coat without meat at on the plate. I bite every single bite as it was and didn't managed to feal any meat or taste, no juicy, just completely coat over fried and super dry, my partner toffu looked like been fried on the morning and reheated on the microwaves on the end of the day, I was so frustrated with food standards, on the desert fried banana with icecream basically the banana was under fried (soft coat) so the plates that require crispy came undercooked and the plates that you can't over fry came super hard dry with no taste or flavor, just fully of oils Please do not attempt to go to eat on this restaurant as you will be disappointed. On the final wen went to pay for it they come for 2 dishes 1 ball of rice a tea a beer and a desert with 63€ bill to pay and another 6£ to serve food to the table ( that was optional ) hidden on final bill by total ending with 71£ . I could had a steak or eat anywhere a decent and healthy meal for less than half I've spent. I feel sick of this crispy oily and untasty. It's a shame but I will warn everyone. Do Not eat anything there (not even given for free) because it's really BAD. You will regret !!! 0 STARS

Stopped here this afternoon on the off chance we could get a table as I’m useless and never book anything they were very accommodating and sat us at a beautiful table over looking the marina the decor was crazy Chinese and I loved it the food was just something else best calamari I’ve ever eaten little pricey but definetly worth the money even got a little gift at the end of our meal which I thought was a nice touch will definetly be returning thank you Gigi

Got totally ripped off by this restaurant..my wife and I had a set meal for two one bottle off tiger beer(£8!!!!!) and a glass of coke...total bill came to £102!!!!..food not much better than my local Chinese and and equivalent meal is just £27 ...don't bother eating here.

Really diverse menu, some really authentic dishes you won't be familiar with if from the UK. Amazing setting, beautiful tableware.

The sweet and sour pork was to die for!

Food was nice, standard chinese, staff were attentive. I went with my partner and we ordered a set meal, when the bill came they had charged us twice for the set meal because its “per person” yet the portion size didnt change. Very disappointed to have paid £53 for 1x kung po chicken, 1x sweet n sour pork (5 peices) and a small bowl of egg fried rice. Its a very sneaky and deceptive way of pricing and i would be very careful what you order if you don’t want to be surprised by an extortionate bill. Gigi you need to do better, very unfair

A fun place but expensive for what it is. The restaurant is very colourfully decorated with a big focus on the founder, Gigi, and their past accomplishments. The food was tasty but some of the prices were crazy - I paid £7 for a tiny mug of Jasmine tea, which also leaked! My tofu dish was cold around the edges which was a little off putting - but it did taste nice. The waiters were friendly and I can see the appeal of the place, but to me it felt like we were paying for the spectacle of the restaurant, rather than good food.

Too much onions in every dish we ordered. The curry sea food had 2 prawns in the whole bowl.

Very over the top decor in this restaurant. Some might like it maybe? I found it quite tacky. Pull over chair covers a good idea, but surely the point of them is that they can be cleaned easily and in fact they were ill fitting and dirty anyway. Staff were friendly, but actually quite inattentive once food was delivered...more interested in chatting to each other. This may have been because we went in late afternoon...after lunchtime and before dinnertime. There were a couple of other tables who came in soon after us though. Food arrived seemingly too quickly after being ordered....giving the impression it was all just cooked earlier and reheated. Salt and pepper potatoes were very greasy and over cooked. Chicken satay was nice but not very peanut saucy, chicken fried rice was nice. It was an ok experience. Maybe the hype outside about the best in Wales, multi award winning etc raised expectations too high beforehand?

We were a party of 5 celebrating a birthday and had a great time. Delicious food and a huge thank you to Iona who made our evening even better. She was chatty, friendly, informative with a continual smile. She realised we were celebrating a birthday and arranged a surprise rendition of "Happy Birthday" & a candle on a rabbit bao bun. We had great fun. I've docked one point for the steep wheelchair ramp which I thought was going to tip my son out of his motorised wheelchair. I recently visited the Chinese restaurant in Swansea for a weekend getaway with my friend, and we had an incredible dining experience. We ordered the Special Fried Rice, Hot and Spicy Lamb, Duck Meat, and Chinese Noodles. While the Tofu dish was a bit too oily for our taste, everything else was absolutely delicious. The Special Fried Rice and Hot and Spicy Lamb, recommended by our server, were particularly outstanding. The ambience of the restaurant made us feel like we had stepped into Chinatown, with plenty of authentic Chinese decorations. The view of the boat dock added to the charm of the place. Our server was very attentive, giving us a great seat upon arrival and offering excellent recommendations. As a delightful surprise, we received a gift after our meal, which added a special touch to our visit. Overall, it is an awesome place with delicious food and a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended!

We were on a visit from England to Wales to visit family and what a treat to find an authentic Chinese restaurant! The food and service was superb, we weren't sure what to order from such an extensive menu and the staff listened to what we liked and recommended dishes which really hit the spot! My partner was still raving about the Ribs the next day lol. Thoroughly recommend

Went here for a pre-graduation meal celebration, I don’t think the restaurant was ready for so many people on a Tuesday night. The lady serving us was awesome so helpful the food was great and very reasonably priced. Will definitely return here.

Be aware of the misinformation available on their website which states the restaurant closes at 10 PM. Went there earlier today at 9:40 PM. The host declared that the chef had already left and the restaurant was closed. Is there no regulatory authority here in Swansea, which should monitor and regulate such restaurants, which cause huge inconvenience to customers ?

Sweet and sour pork rib was not good at all, but the squid and rice noodles were fine. Great decorations but overpriced for mediocre food and service. Don't order the sweet and sour pork ribs, but the fried rice noodles and dry-cooked squid were still very good.

Are you after some chinese on Saturday evening in Swansea? Better look elsewhere than this place. The food we were served was horrible (unless you are a fan of everything being drowned in soy sauce), beer was warm (then, who knows? It might be your thing). At the end you'll be given some gifts (straight from the heart) made of some cheap plastic items which eventually end up in oceans... But hey... Who cares about turtles and other marine life...

If in Swansea a visit here is essential. Especially if you are a fan of authentic Chinese cuisine. I booked well ahead of my visit having read an article by food critic Jay Raynor. It didn't disappoint ! The food and range of dishes was excellent plus the totally kitch and crazy atmosphere and decor was mesmerising . Served by exotic looking and extremely polite staff and Miss Gigi herself was a charming hostess. Thank you for an unforgettable experience.

Very quirky. Wonderful interior decorations. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and Gigi, the owner, came to chat with us. There is a good selection of food on the menu, the portions are large. A 'must go to' both for the food and the experience.

A proper dining experience. The menu is full of interesting and uncommon dishes which seem to be well liked. The food is wonderfully fresh and delicious. It’s the sort of venue that is ideal for a few people to sit together and work through a selection of dishes. Ate here Sunday night with high expectations due to the positive reviews and awards. Food was good, some dishes fantastic, others not for my taste. However, I was very unwell that night and spent Monday in bed and was recovering gently Tuesday. After an honest review the owner threatens reporting the honest review to the police, which is very disappointing. I would like to think reausturants would gladly accept feedback and ensure everything is correct for future customers.

Very disappointed with the service at this establishment- it seems like I’m not the first either. After looking at their website, we decided to place an order for collection. The website is very poor and does not seem to work properly. Due to the complications, we decided to phone through our order. Once we arrived to collect our order, we were shocked to find out that due to us ordering on the phone, instead of online, each dish was £3 extra! I don’t know how on earth they can charge £3 extra for EACH dish because we ordered over the phone. The lady on the phone did not seem bothered with our concern and basically said, “This is how we do it here.” I’ve never been to anywhere in my life which does this. Let alone £3 extra per dish. As we ordered on the phone, the meal cost us approximately an extra £15! Unbelievable! I will not be eating here again and I will be informing everybody I know about this. Whatever you do- don’t phone up to place an order!!

Typical Chinese restaurant,Located in Swansea , but not pocket friendly compared to other restaurants in Swansea. Nice ambience with outdoor space to sit and eat. Went inside for dining. Decor was typical colourful with crowdy teddies and colour hangings. Must try and recommended dish is Lazy king prawns, ordered it twice. And seafood noodles was yummy. Soy sauce was freely available on tables, but surprisingly printed ingredient had alcohol 😳 in soya sauce, later attending staff clarified it doesn’t contain alcohol. Asked twice for tomato sauce , every time they served ketchup in a small plate. Expected nice soup but soup was not upto the mark. Sweet corn soup was with extra added sugar it seemed. Egg fried rice was very small in portion and bland taste , not recommended. Dry Dumplings were superb but not that much in quantity. Quick service and nice staff. Nice lively background music , not too loud. Free fortune cookies and pouches at the end . Asked for a table for bay view , but got a reply from as reserved but nobody came for 3 hours in that table surprisingly.

This authentic Chinese restaurant, almost perfectly captures the atmosphere they were aiming for. The food was excellent with a wide range of food with lots of variety, service was great and we never had to leave our seats the whole time, table service was fantastic. In the end, we received a welcoming and warming gift bag, full with fortune cookies and loads of presents and accessories. Inside the tables and chairs were wonderful, while the bathrooms are also spectacular, creating an elegant look and a friendly environment. Props to the owners and employees for supporting the experience and making the visit a whole lot better.

This is my new favourite Chinese restaurant, the best Chinese we've had! The food was beautifully flavoured, and different to your run of the mill 'English' Chinese cuisine. The staff were super friendly and polite. It is clear a lot of effort has gone into making the restaurant look fun and filled with things we would associate with China. We can't wait to return.

I've visited Gigi Gao's twice and both times it's been a really wonderful experience. Really tasty food with a fantastic range of vegan options (a whole menu book, full of vegan dishes) The decor is so beautiful and I could spend ages enjoying all the details they have displayed in the restaurant. The service is great too! I look forward to visiting again.

The decor in this restaurant is something to behold. There is something very joyful about it. The food on the whole is good but not great. The duck pancakes in particular were very disappointing. Mains were pretty good though! They make a celebration out of people’s birthdays in quite a big way which is great if you like that kind of thing. The staff are all beautifully dressed and clearly make a huge amount of effort to provide great service and an experience. All in all for a night out to celebrate it’s a great location. I would come back as it is nice there, but it wouldn’t be my first choice

The best Chinese food we have ever tasted. But it is not just the food, the ambience is different... better. The staff are all dressed in very smart Chinese clothes and are really friendly but super professional. Worth going to Swansea just to eat here.

Gigi provides the diner with a great selection of interesting, well cooked and diverse set pieces - the whole being beautifully underscored by a friendly and unflappable staff team. We loved the food, the atmosphere and the decoration and the colour scheme is dazzling. We had never dined here before, but will definitely return...hungry again just writing a review!

Food wasn't worth the price most expensive Chinese meal I've ever had and took a four pound tip without our knowledge. Won't be returning. Had reply to this that totally disregards the fact the prices of the dishes we had didn't total to the bill price. I've been told the prices of the dine in menu weren't the same as what the woman on the phone was looking at. I've asked to be emailed the menu she was quoting without reply. So please don't thank me and wish me a good year of the dragon lol I'd rather have honest service what a joke

Our first visit here for our daughters birthday with family. We felt like valued customers from the moment we arrived. What an amazing atmosphere. The food was delicious and plentiful. We were given enough time between courses to rest..it was lovely when they came with a.candle in a custard bao bun and red envelope and fortune cookie and sang happy birthday to our daughter. She was so touched by it all. We will definitely b back and will recommend to others. Thank you Gigi Gao's. .

Came here for an 18th birthday. If I could rate this place a 0 I would. I’m shocked at all the good reviews… wish someone would’ve told me how bland and disgusting the food was before we all wasted our money… worst Chinese I’ve ever had. Save your money people because they must be paying people for good reviews .

Excellent food, quickly served and lots of different items on the menu than you'd expect.

I have looked forward to food here for years..but never got around to it. Went today with my family and was really quite shocked at the price. Well over 100 pound and a service charge automatically added before you get the bill (pet hate). I would sadly say it's the same quality as my local Chinese. People who rave must not be getting nice options where they live. Definitely not any nicer and for the price it's not worth a second visit. Sad to say this though. Service was good though and friendly staff.

Weather was terrible so decided to treat ourselves to a good lunch after the museum and this place did not disappoint. The decoration is lovely but particularly extravagant right now, perhaps because of Chinese New Year; really worth visiting as it's honestly quite fairy-tale, and the kids in other parties seemed to all love it. It wasn't cheap, but would be a great place for a celebration. I would say that it isn't particularly well heated so on a cold day you might be a bit chill if you're not under one of the overhead heaters.

Very awful experience here last night. We got there at 7pm and didn’t have our mains until 1 hour and 30 minutes later. Other tables were coming in and having food and leaving before we’d even had our starters. They had taken in too many bookings and couldn’t keep up with the amount of people. Food came out stone cold, and when we asked them to heat the food up, they didn’t bother, even after asking 3 times. The fried rice, was just boiled rice with egg added. Noodles were dry, like they had been sat in a wok for hours. Gong Bao chicken was inedible and I didn’t touch it, due to the flavour being nothing like described in the menu and being overly salty and spicy (although advertised as no spice). To “compensate” they gave us a free bowl of boiled rice and some stewed vegetables, which was appreciated, but with our ordered food coming stone cold and at different times, it was just unnecessary. Little gifts at the end, which was ok, but I would’ve preferred more effort in the food than a ornament. Also, when clearing plates, they spilled the food on my friends handbag and other friends shoes, and didn’t even apologise. We left all of our food there basically untouched and was disgusted at how much it cost! Was about £50-£60 per head. Honestly, had high hopes and last night was terrible. Will never come back.

We had a great lunch the food was fresh and tasty. One of the best we have had. Decor very pretty for Chinese new year. It was a cold Thursday afternoon in February so no other customers but the service was excellent and friendly. Will return and would recommend this restaurant.

Check the prices of the set meals before you order. For example set meal for 2 ,is £ 32 each not £16 pounds each.Food is good ,but gets cold very cold very quickly, no food food heaters on the table. Best to order plates of food separately rather than set meals. Banana Friter overpriced at nearly £8,And Ice-cream with Lychees ,overpriced at nearly £7 with only two Lyches. Service very good .

Terrible food made my granddaughter ill so we left and then they charged us double, still trying to get our money back, when I gave a poor review to this restaurant they told me I had been drunk!!! We left after we had the starter but they charged me for that full list! (only took remains of starter away in case it needed to be tested!!) What a load of .... to say we went away with that full list of food and to try and attack me when it was their food/cafe was at fault. it was 9pm after a show! /Drunk indeed!

It was our first time at this restaurant and we loved it! The way the restaurant is decorated is brilliant, it feels both authentic and light-hearted. We had the vegan set menu and it was delicious, I would definitely recommend. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we also managed to meet Ms. Gao, which was an absolute pleasure. Food was decent enough but does not meet expectations for the prices charged. Personally I’d pick my local takeaway over here any day and a fraction of the price. I can not see why this restaurant is award winning. Pictures from afar look great but the decor and standard of the interior of the restaurant was a bit of an eye opener. Beer over £7 a bottle. 10% service charge also added to the bill which i feel is taking advantage and totally unnecessary. Would never return and would never recommend

Absolutely beautiful restaurant and exceptional food, highly recommend

Food was disappointing. Chicken satay was bland and watery. Sweet and sour chicken was bland. The duck pancake starter was a let down - was served on a sectioned plastic plate, duck wasn't shredded at the table and pancakes weren't in a basket so all went cold quickly. Insufficient cutlery as nothing provided to serve food/decant items onto plates. Ordered a mango juice and was served a Mogu juice drink with coconut jelly pieces - totally different to what I ordered and therefore also overpriced. Coca Cola was served in cans rather than on draught and no lemon available. Generally disappointing, especially after seeing all the positive reviews. Place looks tired. Been to far better Chinese restaurants.

The moment that you step in the door of Gigis you leave a cold Swansea Marina and enter a magical place where the staff welcomed you warmly and there is a fantastic vibe. Food is great, with good traditional Chinese dishes that you don't often see on more anglicised Chinese menus. However the thing that makes this restaurant stand out is the staff who are so friendly and helpful and always dressed for the occasion. We had a birthday to celebrate and they kindly bought over a small cake with gifts and everyone gathered round to sing along to the Chinese Birthday music over the sound system, cringingly bad for the recipient, but we really enjoyed it! I used to visit the same restaurant when it was in the Uplands and much, much smaller, it is a feat of genius to transpose it to a large glass building and still retain that magical atmosphere.
