Giggling Squid in South Oxfordshire

I was there on Valentine’s Day, and the waiting time for the food was about an hour, but I still rated 4 stars as Alan was the one who served our table and he sincerely apologise and followed closely with the food order for us, definitely will revisit another time

We loved this place. The setting was lovely, such a good vibe! Staff were fab, and the service was spot on. Clayton looked after us and he was attentive but not OTT. But..., the food was incredible, such a good choice, and really authentic. A mix of tapas starters and I had the Royal fish combo, a Thai red curry with sticky rice, and it was to die for! We'll definetely return and highly recommend this restaurant.

We popped in early Monday evening around 5.45 pm before going to the local cinema, and our food was excellent, as it has been on every other occasion we have been to the Henley on Thames restaurant. I had the spicy 'drunken noodles which I love.

Beautiful food. Would recommend the pork belly and satay to start and the massaman curry for a main dish. Lovely service, beautiful staff. Malika served us and she was wonderful.

My partner and I went here for last minute dinner plans. They managed to make space for us even though it said full online booking and was busy. Molika and Jon were so friendly, helpful and funny through the whole meal. Both my partner and I agreed it was the best meal and service we’ve had for a very long time. I’ve had consistently unpleasant experiences at GS across three visits. First Visit: Ordered a dish, the server confirmed it, but I received the wrong food. They made no real effort to fix it, so I just ate it. But, this was forgivable as I felt the server made a genuine mistake and I didn’t want to make a fuss. Second Visit: Went with two friends and waited 40 minutes to even be acknowledged after being seated, despite sitting in full view of staff right by the bar. After finally getting drinks ordered, we were ignored for another hour. When I flagged a server to order food, we were told the kitchen was closing soon. Meanwhile, other tables were seated, served, and finished while we waited. The food, when it finally arrived, was underwhelming. Third Experience (Takeaway): Reluctantly gave GS another chance via Deliveroo as my friend wanted to order here. I noticed they inflate prices if you add on extras via the meal page (e.g. if you add the chicken stir fry main the “why not add” shows these higher prices for rice/starters etc) sticky rice went from £3.99 to £4.25, and salt and pepper squid from £8.80 to £9.40, likely hoping people won’t notice. If you add everything separately from the main menu you get the real prices. Once the food arrived it was awful: dry “sticky” chicken, overcooked sticky rice which was barely edible and cemented together, and a chicken basil stir-fry with barely any chicken or basil. Across three occasions, the service and food have been consistently poor. I regret giving this place multiple chances, really such a shame because Thai food is my favourite cuisine but every aspect is lacking unfortunately.

We got pad kee mao chicken noodles which were delicious and perfectly spicy, along with the giggling pad thai with chicken and prawn which was amazing and the tofu addition in this meal was surprisingly tasty. We also got two lunch sets, the giggling set which was delicious and the feasting set which had great chicken skewers. We also got dessert of some ice creams and the chocolate melting heart which was all an amazing way to end the lunch. The atmosphere at the back of the restaurant was wonderful with flowers everywhere. The hosts were really attentive and made sure everything was okay regularly which was really nice of them. Only thing that I would say is that there are other thai places that are also good for cheaper, but perhaps these prices are normal in a place like Henley center?

The food was amazing as it usually is at Giggling Squid restaurants, but the service was odd. It seemed all good until we finished our mains and then suddenly we felt like we had disappeared as our empty plates and drinks were ignored. We were sat right near the front of house area so waiters were constantly passing us serving other tables. We did plan to have dessert but we just decided to ask for the bill instead after being left waiting for almost half an hour just for our empty plates to be cleared.

We had an awesome take away from the Giggling Squid. Our apartment was around the corner and it was great to enjoy excellent food in our PJs! I’ll be ordering giggling squid again. The branded colourful take away packaging was super cute too. We ordered £28 pound each with of food which was a little too much, but wouldn’t want to have not ordered anything as it all tasted good!

We arrived at the restaurant without a reservation, but straight away we were made to feel incredibly welcome by Molika Kave. The smells were gorgeous and we quickly ordered our food and got some delicious cocktails while we waited. Molika was very attentive and talked to us about the menu and the story behind the restaurants founder which was very interesting. We got a mixed starter first see the photo, it’s the sort of stuff you often get in a Thai restaurant, BUT this was way better than anything we’d ever had before. Every element was just delicious. And the lemongrass sausages were amazing. We then had a fish curry and sticky chicken, both of which were just as fantastic. We will definitely be looking out for more Giggling Squid restaurants in the future. We didn’t even realise it was a group restaurant at first. It had the feel of a family run business. Thank you to Molika and the team for making my husband’s birthday so lovely 🥰

We had the new festive menu last night. Highly recommend. The butterflied prawns with the Som Tam, the duck roast with the chestnut rice and vege and the Baileys tiramisu cheesecake. Lovely atmosphere with lovely staff 🙏

Had a take away - ordered to collect for 7pm but had to wait 15 minutes and the food was awful. I couldn't eat much of it. The Thai curry was very salty with virtually no chicken in it. The Egg fried rice was a soggy lump and the Pad Thai tasteless. Very disappointed.

The service was great and the food was delicious. We had a lovely waiter called Alan who was there whenever we needed and had a great sense of humour.

Dined in the Giggling Squid this evening, will definitely be returning. Our staff were great, super friendly and courteous. We chose a sharing menu to start and it was delicious, both of us were amazed at the flavors. We then had our mains and again they were excellent. Could highly recommend the king prawn pad Thai, but the star was the jungle curry, perfect spice and heat mix. Just need to rebook now to try something new.

Molika was very attentive and knowledgeable, she recommended the salmon bites and Pad Thai prawns were very scrumptious! Finished off with my all time favourite “Thai Iced Tea” scrumptious!

Quick tapas lunch. First visit to this Giggling Squid. Spotlessly clean and pleasant atmosphere. Attentive engaging server (Alex) who went above and beyond to make our lunch enjoyable. Food was tasty. Prefer more crisp on couple of dishes but nothing that will prevent further visits. The quality of food is always very good.

Unfortunately completely overpriced! You actually have to buy the rice!! The portions correspond to children's plates :(

One of the best meals and service I’ve had!!! We arrived around 7:30 it was busy for a Thursday, we was sat and greeted as we walked in! The staff gave excellent service !! Started were out 10 minutes after we ordered, the staff were on the feet making sure everyone felt welcomed and having a good experience. The food! Is one of the best meals I’ve had in a while, i am still thinking about it right now. The staff were so friendly and continued to make conversation. We was there for an hour and had 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 side and two drinks in this time. Words cannot describe how good our experience was. Would 100000% go again. Thank you!

We have just had a beautiful meal. Everything was delicious! I wish I could eat here every day. The staff were so kind and friendly- especially our waiter John.

Giggling squid used to be my favourite restaurant, I would order the Vegetarian Pad Thai every single time and it was my comfort meal. The most spectacular part of this meal was the tofu. However, on my recent trips they have changed the tofu and it was the most heartbreaking experience I have had. I came to the Giggling squid for the the tofu and now I have nothing to come back for. Please change the tofu back! The mediocre tofu I could cook for myself is not what I expect from what used to be my favourite restaurant.

Delicious Thai restaurant! The price is not too expensive. If one person has a meal and drinks, it will cost around 20 pounds. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very cute. If you have a chance, come and eat!

Food that was cooked correctly was great 5 star. Unfortunately the takeaway rice was left in a bag and therefore turned into a sticky mess. The collection was also poor as the restaurant forgot the order. So to summarise good food, poor management and delivery. 🫠 Shame.

Great experience from start to finish. Being seated at a lovely table to have a family meal. Always lots of good vegan options. I felt the food, especially the noodles did not have that wok hei flavour it usually does in other Giggling Squid places. It could have been down to a slight rush of tables but then it was a weeknight with no back tables being filled. I would say I had better food at other branches. Service was good too. I would still go to Giggling Squid but may choose something else in Henley until the food quality improves.

My wife and I were celebrating a wedding anniversary together here. We were made to feel welcomed and given an unexpected complimentary drink. The service was warm and friendly. The food was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Thank you team.

Great meal last night. Pork dumplings and pad thai were excellent. Caramelized mango with ice cream was great to finish. All other courses were good and service was good too.

I live in Henley and have used the Squid many many times but sadly never again . Went for a meal on Saturday evening and it was like a John cleese Forty Towers sketch. It was not over busy,ordering drinks starters and main. Waited 20 minutes for the starter,then the main came out with a dish I didn't recognise and questioned this and was told it was part of the meal. 5 minutes later the server came back and asked if I had eaten any of the dish I had questioned ,when I said no they picked it up and said it wasn't mine said sorry and walked away with it to the kitchen door only to turn around and proceeded to take it to another table,I was speachless !!! Meaning they were give food that I had prodded and poked around by myself to see what it was and been on my table 5 minutes. Then another waiter came over and asked if I would like to order more drinks! I had even at this point had the first ones . To top it off when the bill arrived I was charged 8% service charge. What service!!! That's it Giggling Squid ,never again ,no respect for customers and their food moving it from table to table .

Had a brilliant lunch here today. Went for the Veggie Set meal with had 4 small plates including spring roll, stir-fried rice, vegetable green curry and rice. All were piping hot and delicious. At £12.95 a head cheaper than the average pub’s burger and chips shot out of a packet and into a frier! Small plates they might be but was plenty for a lunch. Delicious.

Great night out with two families and teenage kids. Tasty fresh menu with the ability to adapt well for allergies. Enjoyed it

Incredibly slow service. Had to ask for drinks order several times. Was told large party had ordered several cocktails but restaurant aways has large parties booking so arrange more staff. Took awhile to take our food order as well although once ordered, food came pretty fast.

Stayed in Henley for a party the following day and the menu looked good so booked, we weren't disappointed.....

Starter and main course good. Cheesecake though was poor, still frozen. Highlighted to the waitress, who then tried to suggest it was hard because the biscuit base is hard! Definitely frozen…..

Second visit in three years, first time was fantastic with great staff all Thai. people. Second time came with friends, very disappointed, food not great and not warm enough, service poor on arrival.

I was there for dinner. I’m Thai just can say there’s no Thai people work on shop floor, but there maybe Thai chef . Not really sure . The taste seems like not authentic Thai especially jasmine rice . The white rice seems not high qualities as I can see the colour or maybe overcooked. I have order pad Kee maow prawn £14.25 my dish is look like just £8-£9 but I can see pad Thai prawn on the table next to me look better as the same price on the menu . Don’t know why . Duck spring is the best of our orders .service is brilliant, staffs are very friendly but due to quite packed at that time they couldn’t service fast . Atmosphere a bit noisy honestly.

From the moment you arrive you are made to feel welcome, you are greeted with a smile. Staff really friendly, good job we booked as it got quite busy very quickly. Food was absolutely amazing. If I was staying in the area longer I would definitely go again.

Second time back here and the service as a whole, again did not disappoint. I didn’t realise this place was a chain, everything about it is great, you can’t tell, unlike most chains. They can really let you down from one to another but not this place. A fairly busy restaurant but that doesn’t prevent the service team from being attentive, efficient and friendly. They genuinely seem to care. Our food was gorgeous (again), the ambiance is just what we were after as a small group. I know when we return to Henley again this place will be on our list to visit. Thanks guys!

Upon arrival we were left waiting at the main door for nearly 10 minutes stood around people eating at their tables which was awkward, before any staff approached us; even though various staff members were walking around us. We had a booking and was then shown to our table which had not yet been relaid. The seating was not adequate, my partner was brushed past and knocked multiple times being at the entrance of the area and next to the staff access door. We ordered our drinks and food and the starters arrived after being there for approx 25 minutes and the spring rolls were enjoyable however we had still not received any drinks. We’d finished the starters before our drinks arrived and when they did they got it wrong but after waiting so long we drank them anyway. We ordered additional drinks, whilst waiting for these they brought us someone else’s order. When the next drinks arrived they only brought 1 so we had to wait again for the other one. The mains arrived and the noodles were covered in grease to the point that we were unable to finish the meal. The staff were friendly but just could not keep up with the speed of service required for the restaurant. They did discount our bill which we were grateful for but unfortunately this does not compensate for the disappointment of the evening.

The food was good and the service was excellent from our waiter. Only bad point is the restaurant is split into two areas and we were out the back which lacked atmosphere, but still a nice meal overall.

I had an excellent meal with my mum and mother in law for Mother’s Day. We had Nadiia serving us. She was brilliant and extremely attentive with helping my MIL who is celiac. We had the best night and will definitely be going again. The food and drinks were all delicious. Thoroughly recommend!

Always great food and amazing service here

I have been here before when visiting Henley so we decided to book for tonight. We were shown to our table quickly and given menus. When we ordered we were told one option was not available so we made a swap. 2 starters arrived before our drinks. The 3rd never arrived, when we asked they said sorry we don’t have it. The staff were amazing but seemed so run off their feet. Our main course arrived and was delicious. People at tables around us, left as they hadn’t been served. When our bill came they had charged us for the starter we never got. This was corrected. It wasn’t till we paid I noticed we had been charged for a large wine not a small but the staff were so busy I took the hit. Amazing food, amazing staff. But I want to know where the management was. Thank you to the 3 staff on tonight.
