Ghillie's in Argyll & Bute

Had dinner here. Food was homemade. We had lasagne and chips and chicken with haggis, peppercorn sauce and mash. Very reasonably priced. Very attentive young guy serving.

Truly amazing, welcoming friendly and professional employees. The food was delicious and well presented. Should I visit Bute I will make a beeline to Ghillie's. Thank you

Warm friendly welcome for 2 hungry yotties from the only member of staff who, despite the restaurant being fairly busy seemed to be unfazed and very efficient. She was a great help with our menu choices, knew the menu very well. Was very impressed by the variety on the menu, as well as the Specials board. Fay( I hope I recall her name correctly) was great with just the right amount of chat and humour. Food was well prepared, well presented and tasted great. Will deffo return.

A lovely visit for an afternoon lunch 😋. After a trip around the island 🏝 on the bus 🚌 we were ready for something to eat 😋 and drink 🍻 . Well set out and is part of the Victoria Hotel 🏨. Very well staffed good selection of food and drink 🍸 👌 made it harder to choose which meal to have. Definitely recommend 👌.

We went along early evening on a Wednesday night. It filled up very quickly, It is a small clean and modern bistro, we didn't have a starter but our mains were tasty, my husband had Scallops with chorizo and potato's, cleaned his plate, throughly enjoyed it, I opted for Chicken coujons with chips which was fine. Amy was friendly and very helpful, nice to see someone doing a good job, with a smile.

Simple but filling food. Very reasonable priced and the best, open on Sundays. We were disappointed to find most places close so were glad to find this place open. Portions are huge so don't need to ask for starters unless you fancy loads. Nice views of the sea front!

Had high hopes due to the reviews however was left disappointed. Noted the restaurant opened until 7pm so made a point to book in for 4:30 to ensure we had enough time to comfortably enjoy our dinner. We were the only table in our entire stay and waiter was in no way attentive, very minimal contact was made. Starter was nice, we had the haggis and black pudding Bon Bon’s with a fresh salad. The mains then followed and were very disappointing. The steak pie was tough in regards to the meat and the fish and chips also didn’t meet the standards of the starter. The chips were slightly undercooked while also being burnt looking and the dish as a whole wasn’t enjoyable. We didn’t raise the issues as we felt between the service and mains there wasn’t much that could be redeemed at this stage. It may have been an unfortunate booking time on our part however we would expect service and food to be consistent if not better on a quiet Saturday evening.

Food was exceptionally tasty. Staff were friendly, fun and helpful. Glad we popped in!

We visited here for the day with a party of 8 last weekend. The food was absolutely beautiful, the staff were so friendly and accommodating. We brought a person with extreme disabilities and the staff went out their way to ensure they were comfortable and relaxed. The prices were very reasonable. A party of 8 with main meal's, sides , alcoholic and soft drinks for £100 is fantastic. I would travel to Rothesay again just to visit here. The best food I’ve tasted in a long time!

We visited this bistro/Restaurant on 11th July. The place was particularly quiet. We all ordered Fish and Chips which were excellent. The gentleman behind the bar was polite and friendly. Would definitely recommend Ghillies.

The most disappointing visit ever, nearly an hour to get a coffee & cake. No idea what's gone wrong here as its never been like this before....

Understated restaurant, but the food was amazing. Had the lasagne and loved it. Was hungry and craving veg, so got a side salad and the garlic bread too, both delicious. The lady who served us was brilliant too. Definitely give this place a chance!

Oh dear oh dear oh dear. Only two tables being served including ours, a red flag on a Saturday night. Ordered starters, bland but edible. The mains were rushed out, the staff obviously not wanting to be there at 7:45!! My partner's baked potato was literally rotting, big black chunks everywhere. Her salad covered with cheese and coleslaw like a staff canteen would have served in the 70s, her chicken was rubber, she couldn't cut through it, my salmon dry but just about edible....it all seemed microwaved? The main was comped, the dessert menu reluctantly produced , my partner ordered £7 sticky toffee pudding, microwaved sponge and store bought topping! Her request for a coffee refused as the coffee machine had been turned off around 8pm!! A party of 6 had been refused in an entirely empty restaurant as they had a tiny dog. The staff didn't want to be there, the food was disgusting and this was by far my worst ever dining experience. I waited for Gordon Ramsay's 24 Hours to Hell and Back bus to arrive but it never did!!

Lovely clean and modern bar restaurant. Home made dishes available on the menu and anything I have had in here has been delicious. Victoria's restaurant on the floor above does the best breakfast in Rothesay. Proper butchers sausages. Highly recommend both places. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.

Popped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Homemade steak pies and hand cut chips was really delicious. Super friendly staff who were really helpful. Absolutely recommend this for lunch.

The tall young man serving at Ghillies was very pleasant and professional. It's a shame that the Bistro is not attractive looking from the outside, as inside it is tidy and well equipped.

Popped in to the cafe bar for some lunch on a cold day. The soup was nice and warming and the toastie was good :)

Popped in for a quick lunch today with two friends. The leek & potato soup was delicious, as was one friend's lentil soup! We each enjoyed our cheese toastie orders, two with tomato and one with onion. Sadly, they served the onion one to the wrong person, so we each only enjoyed the correct second slice! Meal was still fine, though.

Food was lovely and the boys who served us were great .we paid our bill and went on our way ,a short time later I got a call to say unfortunately there had been a mistake with the bill and we had received another tables bill we owed them £10 ..I would expect them to check the bill before giving us it ,we didn't check the bill as presumed it was correct ,we went back to pay back what we owed in case they deducted the underpayment frm the staff member,Now remembering the bill was £47 and we gave them ,£53.50 we decided as we had been humiliated already that we would deduct the tip therefore owing £3.65 ,the manager was insisting that we pay and that if this had happened 10 times that day they would be short £40 and it was the principle of paying back what we owed.the attitude was shocking and when my partner gave over £3.70 and said we'll wait for the change the manager laughed and scoffed at us for wanting the change ,now surely the principle works both ways .it was embarrassing and unprofessional of them ,

Oh dear after reading good reviews, we hoped for a pleasant meal. We expected a reduced menu and fewer tables but the waitress made no effort to welcome us and it was lacking in atmosphere . The menu was pedestrian, the only seafood was scallops with black pudding and chorizo and the fish and chips. No wine list was offered. Even with Covid 19 'they need to try harder

Excellent service. Pleasant staff. Well thought out Covid precautions (but maybe at the expense of atmosphere) Varied menu, great food at a reasonable price. Only minus. House wine was on the expensive side.

The food was lovely. I had chilli rice sour cream. Hubby and brother in law had fish chips and salad. My sister had a warm chicken salad. Two glasses wine and two beers. Cheers.🥂🍻

The food presentation was good and the ingredients had a fresh and home cooked.feel to them. We enjoyed veg options of macaroni cheese, veggy burger and omelette and various tasty puddings. Meat and fish dishes also available. The floor space is bigger than many of the nearby eateries and so felt more spacious and safer for social distancing.

One of my favourite places to visit for lunch or dinner and sometimes for a cocktail or two a well stocked bar a very good menu. The vegan and vegetarian selection has recently been upgraded I hope that continues being vegetarian I'd like to see more gluten free meals though. And I wish they didn't bang the coffee filter on the sink it's very loud when your trying to have a conversation or just want a quite lunch. Otherwise fantastic I'm back in this afternoon for lunch if I can get a seat although alternative seating is up the stairs I do believe.

Cosy place, food was very good. I had mixed grill all meat was well cooked apart from the pork chop was a very small fatty pìece with next to no meat on it.

Food was excellent! I had the seafood platter, mozzarella garlic bread and a pint of poretti and honestly cant fault it. It came to 21.90 which was great value in my opinion. I only give it 4 stars as I had to wait a while to be seated and the restaurant was particular quiet. I also was not asked whether I wanted a dessert and I waited a while after eating, I went and got an ice cream elsewhere but they did seem short staffed or lack of proactive staff. The older gentleman (the manager I believe) was friendly and attentive. Would visit again and reccomend.

Reasonable food, good value. Decor and atmosphere could be better but we did go in early. I had a fish platter for my main which was a massive portion for the price and very tasty

We enjoyed good Food with beautiful view of isle of bute lake area! The sitting arrangement and the staff is very kind to give you the best place to enjoy your food. Sea food was quite fresh and the quantity was worth the money and view too..would recommend this place for dinner time as it's lit in the night

Late dinner after event in Rothesay. Generous portions of chips with everything (and I mean everything) and the food was cooked well, but maybe a bit uninspiring. Decent value for money.

This is my go to place on Bute when I want a relaxing hour or two of an evening. The staff are friendly and attentive, the music always good and the food and drink is reasonably priced and professionally presented.

Total surprise is Ghillies, enjoyed our Mulled wine soup on the drinks menu. Warmed both of us on a very cold night. Just the chappy, as we walked around the coast road to Arbeg and our accomidation, and further warmth.

Lovely food always fresh and well presented. The staff are fantastic. Kind , considerate, helpful. Very efficient lovely staff at Ghillies. I would definitely recommend that you treat yourself and pay a visit.
