Geos Fish Bar in Tendring

The best fish I have ever eaten in my life, waiters, very good food, very good cleanliness, magnificent togolets, everything is perfect, the fish is very nice, everything is very nice.

The fish was fresh, well cooked as were the chips that were not too greasy. The portions were generous. The service was quick and efficient.

All the seagulls standing outside recommended this restaurant!! They serve skate which is so rare to find in a fish and chip shop. The potatoes are not out of a freezer and stuck in a deep fat fryer. Someone has peeled these. I hate frozen chips so this was a real treat. The portions are big. I have not had proper fish and chips for years. This was an excellent find.

Awful rude waitress ruined what should have been a nice meal! Ordered & paid at the counter, when we asked to the be seated, he had thought we were taking the food away but said he would waver the additional cost, which we weren’t aware of, to eat in. We were met by a rude female who made a big deal about there being five of us; literally had to push two tables together. When she eventually did that, we sat down & when she discovered that we had already ordered, she shouted “no, it’s more money to sit down” I tried to explain what had happened & how the gent who served us had given us a gesture of good will; she stomped off mumbling under her breath. She then returns with a bill for an additional £15; we had already spent near of £50. I tired to explain what the gent had said but she was rude & dismissive telling me “no it’s got to be paid as the food costs more” Not wanting to cause more of a scene, we paid it but ultimately she ruined what should have been a nice meal. Needless to say, with staff like that, it’s a shame as trying to put money in to an already struggling UK seaside economy means I/family/friends won’t be eating there again.

Fish was OK but chips were bad. A lot of small chewy ones and just not good chip shop texture. Admittedly it was 6pm Saturday in peak season but I write this hoping it will encourage improvement.

I visited Geos with my nan on our little holiday to Clacton. It was so nice that we went back the next day! The staff a lovely, and the food is cooked fresh for you. Very generous portion sizes and the prices are decent as well. I will absolutely be going back on my next trip to Clacton!

We visited here as a family of four, with a toddler in tow, after reading the great reviews. The majority of the family ordered the cod, which they said tasted lovely. The portion sizes were very good too! I had the scampi which was nice, but I have tasted better (I prefer freshly battered). All in all a lovely fish and chip shop, with indoor seating, I’d recommend a visit!

Definitely up there among the best of fish and chip shops. Tables clean and well set, excellent service and wonderful fish and chips. Too often seaside fish and chip shops fall short on quality but not so this restaurant. A generous tasty piece of fish encased in a crisp batter along with lovely chips and a big mug of tea. We shall definitely return when next in Clacton.

What a fantastic meal. A friend and I went in there for dinner. This was our first time as I was visiting Clacton for a friends engagement party. The food was amazing a great value for money. The place was clean and tidy. The waitress was super helpful and friendly and the fish and chips was delicious and huge.

I have not been to Geo's for a long time. But I would rate it as excellent. One of only a couple of "proper" seaside fish and chip shops in Clacton. Good produce (including proper chips) cooked to order in hot fresh oil. Really good. Mike.

Lovely lunch with friends on good Friday. Everything about our dinner was lovely. Batter was perfect, fish was fresh and tasty and chips were divine. None of it was greasy. It was just perfect. Condiments supplied upon request. They even have a licensed bar!. Toilets looked like they have been recently refurbished as they were so clean!! They even have a disabled toilet which is rare. Staff were kind and very attentive and always checking on us to make sure everything was OK. Just perfect

Holidaying in Clacton and decided to try Geo's for fish and chips. We sat in the restaurant which was quiet on a Monday evening. Everything was excellent. Food was fresh, hot and delicious. As good as the Padstein/Whitby eateries. Recommend it.

I have been to Geos for the last 10 years. Never disappointed. Good value. Always fresh fish. Always piping hot. Good service. The restaurant is always packed. You have to que for a fews minutes to get in but worth it.

We ate in and waited about 15 minutes for our large cod and chips, bread and butter and teas. It was worth the wait, for the freshly fried fish and chips, which were so tasty and crispy. I recommend this place to everyone for the best in fish and chips. Nice atmosphere and fast friendly service.

Slim pickings for quality fish and chips in Clacton I'm afraid. We hunted this one down based on reviews and sadly it was average.

Local caught wing of skate, my special treat. Cooked to perfection with amazing crispy batter. Chips were "Proper". Sat at restaurant area at back. Server and cooks were cheerful and friendly, A real seaside treat.

Horrible fish was overcooked it stuck to the battery as for the chips so hard you could use them for pellets

I Can not tell you, i have wined and dined and worked in some of the finest restaurants in london and the Fish and Chips served here matches the best.Spotless entrance and well presented takeaway with a friendly greeting on arrival. Since Geos has been taken over it has gone down hill. Batter wasn’t crispy and chips were horrible. Not the same since it has been took over. We are here for a week and won’t be coming back to Geos 👎🏼

My family and I travelled from a local haven site for lunch. We were seated within 10 minutes. Not the most glamorous restaurant but the food was excellent. The fish was very fresh with excellent batter, would be nice with a lemon wedge. Chips were beautiful. Curry sauce the best I’ve ever had. There were only two disappointments: the onion rings were not home made and were poor quality. The sauces tasted very cheap and should be better. Would highly highly recommend this fish bar. Good value for money.

Went to this chippie at 6pm to find the whole place had already closed. The restaurant part closed even earlier. Managed to get takeway from there the following day although again it still closed around 6 which seems a bit silly for a seaside place...

I had my lunch here on Tuesday 12 October, having just stepped off the train from London. As usual I had the Cod and Chips which (although not cooked to order) set me up nicely for the rest of my short holiday in the area. Sadly, I had to do without my usual Ice Cream for afters, as they were out of stock that afternoon. Service was friendly and helpful.Having not been able to eat here on my trip to Claction three months previously (due to it then being take away only and having my hands full) I was pleased to reacquaint myself with Geo's. It's well worth a visit!

A fantastic meal contributing to a great day out. This is my new favourite place to eat in Clacton.The staff were charming, great with the kids, friendly and accommodating. The prices reasonable and the portions so generous that most of the kids had half of their food bagged up to take with us.We ate in on a busy Saturday getting there shortly before closing. I heartily recommend the cod, chips and curry sauce. Pre-teens who think they are too big for a kids meal (also generous) should bring a bag…Thank you all, we will be back.

What a lovely little fish and chip shop serving top quality fish and chips. We had haddock and chips and the youngest had chicken nuggets. It was cooked to order and was piping hot and fresh. It seemed to be a family run restaurant and the staff were really lovely and couldn’t do more for you. They also paid great attention to cleanliness. Bought Cod and Chips for four and was seriously impressed. Fish were largest I have had and ordered mediums. Most importantly, the quality was exceptional with perfect batter, texture and taste of fish. The chips were outstanding too as chunky, not greasy and exactly how I would have chosen to be cooked. Reasonably priced and well worth a few mins walk from promenade.

We visited Clacton today and wanted fish and chips. I researched on the internet before we visited to look at reviews of fish and chips shops at Clacton. We thought we would try Geo's fish bar as the reviews were good. Well the reviews were right! The cod was delicious, with crispy batter which had a lovely flavour. The fish was flaky and good chunks. The chips were tasty and just the way I like them. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. We will definitely buy fish and chips from Geo's next time we visit Clacton. Thank you

Visited this restaurant today at 12pm for lunch with a friend the food was lovely and the guy in the restaurant section with glasses was very friendly and polite an older gentleman walked in who obviously had dementia or mental health issues he was harmless and asked for some bread fish and a glass of coke I was absolutely disgusted by the reaction and treatment he received from all staff members sniggering and laughing at him and making faces at each taking the mick out of this harmless poor man who only wanted to have lunch they could all see me watching them the blonde girl at the front was the worst and got the cook at the front to lean over and look at the man as she was taking the mick so much and laughing I am utterly disgusted by this behaviour do you have school children working with you or something I suggest you employ real adult staff who are grown up enough to give someone a lunch without taking the piss or you train the staff the you have to improve customer service skills the only person not to take the mick out the guy was the polite gentleman with glasses least you have one good egg I suppose I was going to leave a tip but didn’t bother as I was horrified by there actions god help them when they get older and people are laughing at them for being incontinent or they have mental health issues utterly unacceptable behaviour by staff

we travelled from Gillingham Kent for a train ride to clacton we calked in Geos for lunch and must say we had a very enjoyable time fish and chips were good defo a 5* can highly recommend

Every time I’m in town, if we fancy chips this is our ‘go to’ chip shop. They give good sized portions and their chips are always lovely. (I can’t comment on the fish as we don’t eat fish). Not too expensive compared to the chip shops towards the pier area.

We go to Geo's at least once a month, always lovely fresh cooked food. Staff friendly and helpful, toilets are upstairs so not suitable for everyone.

I took my service user, who has learning disabilities in here for a late lunch. Firstly when they seated us at a table for two, (as there was only two of us), I asked if we could have the four seater table near the entrance so my service user would be more comfortable. Without hesitation the brilliant lady switched us straight away. The restaurant was busy but they served us pretty much straight away, which was brilliant, as my service user isn't good at waiting. The food was fantastic, and we felt very very comfortable in there. There is not many places I can take my client where he feels comfortable, so this will be a definite re-visit in the future!!

A busy basic fish and chip shop with a restaurant at the back which we used. Fast service good portion sizes and perfectly cooked. Superb value for money. Its cash only so bear that in mind.

This is how to cook fish and chips, crispy and flavoursome, straight from the fryer to your plate. Lunchtime specials are also always available with a fast efficient waitress service you wont have to wait long for the meal.

Been there loads of times and they never disappoint this proper fish and chips so very tasty and loads of it and if you sit in and have the special of the day you get fish chips bread and butter and a cup of tea for just under 8 pounds thats not only good value that's a grate meal.you can't beat it.

We had a look to see where the best chip was in Clacton and Geo’s seemed to be the one. It’s amazing value and the service is quick and efficient. My sister and I had a small sausage and chips each. The chips and sausage were both up there with the best I’ve had. It’s honestly so cheap as well. I highly recommend going there if you’re looking for a chip shop, and not just settling for one you come across! It’s right in the centre, a few minutes from the beach and has a square with benches to sit on across the road.

the food is excellent cooked fresh and the fish is very white and is lovely. Pies, Saveloys etc including a licensed restaurant. The chips are not greasy in any way and are really good also. If you want a meal lunchtime get to the restaurant between 11.30 and 12.45 as after that people are queing for a seat the drawback the toilet is upstairs and no siabled loo

We spent the day in Clacton on the 16.8.19 and whilst in the arcade we asked an employee there, if they would recommend a fish and chip restaurant and Geo's Fish Bar was recommended.

Go here on an ad-hoc basis when in town, either for a take away or sometimes we go in and sit down. Always had great food and the table service is very good. We like it as it's basically in the town centre and near the amusements and beach if you're here on holiday.

Proper rock and chips with proper accompaniments if you want them. Wash it down with a cup of tea and it can't get better. Expect to queue as the restaurant area is small but it is worth the wait
