Need to have a word with whoever is making the local residents unhappy in Thornton. Staff and management at this one just don't care

Sad to say this place has gone very much downhill, husband called in last night for fish and chips, fishcake and chips and salt&pepper chicken with fried rice. Chips were a mixture of freshly cooked and warm ups fish was as hard as rock and totally tasteless so had obviously been sitting in the warmer for a very long time. They got the order wrong and gave us two fish, no fishcake. All in all a very disappointing meal for £30. Need to do much better, this is our local go to takeaway, so might be time to ring the changes

Asked for a portion of chips,opened them when i got home could'nt believe the size of the portion.Didnt ask for a small portion,it was even smaller!!

Chips and sausages were stone cold. Really disappointing

Went here about 4/5 years ago with my aunty and have never forgotten it- still think about it whenever I have a chippy tea. Best fish and chips I have ever had, but sadly have not been able to return since. Really hope I can go back someday! When you still remember how good something was basically half a decade later, it is absolutely worth it! 100% recommend.

A nice chippy, friendly staff and great food. While I'm on my rounds, I'll pop in for quick bite on the go.

A really nice place to eat which has a really good service, such a wide variety of foods even vegetarian foods, but not much vegetarian in total. Staff are really nice and it's good to see this being open for so long!

Got fish an chips and gravy and rice. Gravy is awful. Tastes burnt. The fish is like a thin strip of fish. Half the size but full price. Won't be back again

Pie and chips good, gravy was black, jet black and tasted very salty

Went recently to get a sausage dinner never again,sausages were awful the gravy is like tar & worst of all the peas were garden peas instead of being mushy,let the customers know you don’t have mushy peas & I would of chosen something else

Has the price of salt and vinegar gone up? Second time I've been and when I've asked for it they've put hardly any on.

This Chippy has been in College road since I was a kid 40 years ish. Popped in recently and Picked up a chicken fried rice for me lil old Dad. He loved it and the staff added soy sauce to it specially 😁 nice.

Most of the time I get something with gravy, which is the best around! Last time I went though, we tryed one of the salt & pepper dishes. It was a combination of ribs, chicken wings, won tons, spring rolls it was amazing! Always lovely food here.😊 Definitely recommend

After the last visit of mediocre cod and chips I though I’d give this chippy the benefit of doubt and give it another try. Honestly it was worse than the last time, my partner has just returned home with soggy cold chips although his beef and Tom was hot my fish was non existent, it was ALL batter with quite literally two fork fulls of fish, I don’t know how they has the cheek to batter it and sell it!! A total rip off. We won’t be returning again.

Not what it used to be chicken was like rubber and tasteless when ordering a chicken fried rice very disappointing

The meals here are always expertly cooked there are plenty of choices too. The chips in particular are the best I've ever tasted and the standards never drop each time I go in. Highly recommended.

Went along to get a bag of chips and 10 minutes before close they had no chips like going to a petrol station and they have no petrol 10 mons before close what osbthe point close at 8 of you can't supply food will find somewhere else

One of the very best chip shop and take away in the area. Always greeted with a big hello and smile. Love it.

Feel sick off the fish and chips, expensive

I have always found the food to be of good quality, portion size just right and the price is very fair. The staff are welcoming and the speed of service even at very busy times is good. I have tried several other similar business's but I always return to George & Angela's.

Lovely food always and friendly staff

We got 2 portions of sausage and chips. Portions size was fine, not an issue there but the chips were so soggy. The paper was just stuck around the chips so half of it was edible. They weren't busy but maybe other reasoning for this? Unfortunately won't be going back.

What can I say the service is good can't fault it's but the food is abysmal the portions wouldn't feed a child and the way the man speaks to the staff is awful the older lady who does the cooking never seems to stop while the other staff stand around shout at each other or go on their phones and the shop never seems clean god knows what the kitchen and back shop are like

Not my usual chippy and wouldn't go back. Staff just stood around looking miserable, not a friendly atmosphere as described in other reviews. Got chips and gravy and when I got home discovered a congealed black mess that was supposed to be the gravy and undercooked chips. Tried to eat some but quickly gave heart burn. Very disappointing.

Excellent food. Crispy duck ¼ was more like a ½ duck and was restaurant style instead of thrown in the chip fryer like most chippys do. There was tons of meat so not sure if they put in a half duck instead of a quarter by mistake but was only charged for a quarter. Lots of fish ready to go out the door which it was. Obviously its better to have fish freshly cooked but in this case it was freshly cooked in anticipation of that next customer who wants fish. Customers were coming through the door 2 fish and chips, fish and chips please 3 fish and chips etc and as they left more fish were put in the fryer so waiting time was minimal. Nothing worse than waiting in a chippy with several people waiting for fish to be fried along with all those waiting for Chinese meals. Only one problem I find with this place is they close too early

Absolutely incredible fish and chips freshly cooked!!! Came to the beach for my Dads 60th and found this beauty of a place. Bloke and young girl at the front were incredibly friendly and got our orders bang. Thank you for ending our trip with your delicious food.

Massive queue tonight got served quick only wanted sausage and chips everyone was waiting for meals?

Tried all the chippy's in the area and this is the best. Nice staff as well.

Been going here for a while now. Food generally very nice, but portions are getting smaller & smaller, also when I'm paying £5.90 for a Chinese meal I do expect more than a TINY portion of chips, & I'm not a big eater.

Quality of Chinese food is average. Chips are expensive, full of back bits (not removed when the potatoes are peeled 👎) and really don't taste great 😒

Great food, great service...love their 'black gravy'

Four of us inc. 2 children all enjoyed our meals including fish, cakes sausage, chips & a magic curry sauce. All the food was terrific & we would return without hesitation, GOOD JOB!

We visited George's for the first time today, and we will definitely be back. The fish was lovely and fresh and the chips were fab! George and the team were very friendly and helpful I would highly recommend this fish and chip shop.

I have been going to this chippy for nearly 50 years and there food is still amazing as it was back in the day .lovely staff,excellent food and service is top notch .very clean and welcoming.so lucky to have so near.

Best Fish & Chips in Crosby and Chinese meals very good.

The meals are very good. But when I just buy portion of chips, in the few minutes it takes to get them home, they have stewed in their wrappings and become soggy and limp. It's not a one off. I try again a few weeks later and it's exactly the same. The only way to make them palatable is to re-fry or put them in the oven. Some chip shops can make beautifully golden crisp dry chips which don't deteriorate like that, so why can't this long established buisness?

Great plaice for fish and chips

I've been going to this takeaway for many years and have never had a bad experience. Service and food are always excellent. It is though pretty expensive and portion size can sometimes be smaller than other times.

Pathetic, seriously gone down the pan. I ordered fish and chips and there was no fish left, in a chippy! Ribs are rubbish, Chinese food worse than rubbish, avoid at all costs.

best chippy in the north west, the food is always amazing, staff are very helpful and always happy and professional. Why would you go anywhere else.

First time back here since I moved to Canada 2 years ago and I was excited to eat from my favourite chip shop. I've never had to order the same meal 3 times and be asked the same thing so many times. I ordered 3 chips, rice and curry without egg. I get one with egg and fruit curry. Won't be going back here.

The shop is renowned for it's fish and chips locally. We recently ordered Chinese. Regrettably it was of an unsatisfactory standard on all 4 meals.

Never in 30 years have I had a bad meal from here good is always piping hot and freshly prepared. Yes you xonhave to wait sometimes but that's a sign of just how good the place is.

DISGUSTING Ordered a portion of fried rice with no egg as my wife is allergic to egg. Heard the counter assistant say 'no, no egg' when she was in the kitchen. I has an inkling it may have been my order she was referring to, so when it came out of the kitchen I asked the person serving me if it was mine with NO EGG, he said yes. Unfortunately when I arrived home there was EGG IN IT!! Rang them up to tell them and that I'd be back for a refund. Went back, and when the owner could compose himself,from laughing, did I then get a refund. Staff did not treat me any better either with their unbothered attitude and miserable faces. I will not be going back there again. Poor customer service, impolite staff with not a sorry from anyone. +
