Go here rather than the nearby service station if travelling up the A1. Excellent grub, cheap and friendly. Update one year later: changed owners and been done up. Turned up today on a journey north and it was closed despite opening hours saying they were open.

I can appreciate the no frills vibe but I can’t get over the fact they don’t use real butter on toast. The butter-flavored spread is really unpleasant and has a terrible aftertaste. Is real butter so much to ask? Everything else was just okay.

A reboot of a favourite. Back to full speed. A delicious and well priced breakfast.

Not sure when you were last here last review Dawson but we took over 3 weeks ago - the whole place has been deep cleaned - full professional paint job and all new lights equipment from kitchen to customer use and cleaned properly everyday now

Local friendly cafe popped in at fir lunch to meet a friend. Chicken curry chips & rice, Mince and dumplings . Cup of tea £7 each .

I really enjoy visiting. The poached eggs are perfect every time. The fried breakfast’s are perfect as well. I like the atmosphere inside. A friendly service too.

Here on Saturday had a large breakfast it was beautiful

A greasy cafe and everything that come with it. Instant coffee, cheap tea bags, no desent traditional sauce (HP, Heniz ketchup) bacon not great, sausage pink type! Need I say more.

Spending time at this village cafe in the morning is always a highlight of the day. The food is like good fuel for a car! There are some nice grocery items for sale at the back the shop too.

Been going for a number of years now we always stop of for a breakfast if working in the area. Freshly cook and taste everytime. It's great value for money. Why spend £4 for a mcd when you can get a breakfast and drink for under £5

I've been going to Gem Cafe for years now, although ive not visited as regular recently, I always look forward to the food, you know what you're going to get and it is reliably satisfying. My daughter and her family have driven from Guisborough for the large breakfasts! It's that good ! We'll done Paul and the team 👍

Nothing fancy but friendly and fast service with low prices. Stopped for a mug of tea and a sausage sandwich while out on a bike ride.
