GB Cafe Oriental Diner&Sushi Bar in Nottingham

Tried the nasi lemak, hainanese chicken rice and rendang beef. Dishes were authentic, esp the rendang beef which was so flavorful and tender. The fried chicken was a bit dried and overcooked yet the sambal sauce elevated the whole dish. Didn't recommend the hainanese chicken as it was not too tender.

Great place to go with friends. Definitely more of a casual dining experience, you go up to the counter to order, but this makes it ideal if you are out with friends and want to pay separately. The menu is massive with lots of variety, the food is excellent, the prices are good, the portions are big and the staff is very friendly. Would highly recommend!

Absolutely love this place, one of mine, my partner’s and my friend’s favourite places in Nottingham and we are constantly bringing new friends in. The owner and staff are so lovely and bend over backwards for you (understandably less so when it is busy on a Friday and Saturday) and are even dog friendly which we didn’t expect, and always give our dog a treat when we come in! The atmosphere and decor are quite no frills but in the best possible way, very family ran diner style. It reminds me a bit of Midnight Diner or local Japanese eateries. Cutlery trays of chopsticks, forks and knives, napkins and condiments on each table and water dispensers by the counter etc. The food is absolutely outstanding, some of the most authentic Asian food in Nottingham. The owners are Malaysian so their Malaysian food is soooo good and pretty hard to find in the UK! Their sushi is also very good, comparable to other more expensive Japanese restaurants. My friends and I have been working our way through the menu, there’s not much we haven’t tried now! As well as authentic Chinese, Malaysian and other Asian food, they also have an entire separate menu of British Chinese food like sweet and sour tofu, beef in black bean sauce etc. They took over from the previous greasy spoon cafe and kept the name, as well as the English cafe style food like omelette, full English breakfast etc. I’ve never tried this stuff, give me the sushi, rendang curry and steamed fish!!! Some of our favourite dishes are the sushi platters, braised aubergine in chilli and garlic sauce, white fish in pickled Chinese greens soup (way tastier than the description!), mapo tofu, beef rendang, oyster furai, spicy beef ramen and seafood laksa! My friend’s eyes literally rolled into his head when he first tried the seafood laksa! Highly recommend to anyone, in a selfish way, I hope it doesn’t “go viral” and become way too busy! Wish I could review more than once because we’ve been so often and will continue to support a small independent business.

We have been disappointed with so many eateries in Nottingham despite having read good reviews that for once, we found this place which really hit the mark for all of us! 2 Malaysians, 2 English, so had Malaysian and Asian-fusion dishes as we are well placed to verify for their authenticity and quality! Having only been opened for 2 years, you really do need to check this place out for yourselves! We will be back to try the Sushi and Chinese as we were all too full this time around!!! Quick post to catch the Bank Holiday weekend (hope I can update with more, later). p/s 4/5 for atmosphere and not 5 because we were too intent on catching up with each other to have noticed enough to be able to give 5 stars!

One of my go-to places to eat, reminds me of the food courts and family run restaurants in Malaysia. In the past, I've had the nasi lemak, the char kway teow, the hainanese chicken rice, the wat tan hor, the fishball curry, and the salted fish fried rice. All were very tasty. The variety, quality, and portions of the food here are always great. I would love to see another salted egg yolk dish for the typical £10 -£15 price and maybe even roti canai on the menu one day but I totally understand if you don't add more since you already have a large menu. Adding the crispy lard bits to the char kway teow like it's done in Malaysia would also make me very happy!

Lovely Asian food. I had dumplings, the crispy noodles with beef brisket and nasi goreng. It was all nice but the brisket was a little short on meat. Overall though I would definitely come back again.

Very friendly and hard working staff. So much variety on the menu and all is high quality- I have had the beef ramen, takoyaki, dim sum and more on seperate occasions and all is excellent!

Have been in London for months and never once craved Asian food until we chanced upon this eatery while holidaying in Nottingham. For 3 consecutive days,we ate our lunch and dinners there. The flavours and generous portions made each meal reminiscent of home. Compliments to the chef and kudos to the staff, especially the Vietnamese server who made us feel welcomed. A suggestion-have corresponding pictures of each dish on the menu. As the saying goes, 'We eat with our eyes'. Love from Singapore !

I've eaten twice here now - both as takeaway and in the restaurant and the food is sensational. I've only had the Malaysian food but it is by far the best I've had moving away from SE Asia. Chicken rice, beef rendang and laksa all phenomenal. No notes or improvements. If you're a fan of Malaysian food (I can't speak for their other dishes!), you have to try this.

Great breakfast and good value for money. A little odd that chefs are preparing the Chinese lunch menu during breakfast but understand why they need to do it. Staff willing to adjust menu items if you ask. Nice enough place but it isn't quiet as it gets busy with construction workers.

We tucked into the food and nearly forgot to take photos. This place was recommended by friends. We tried Hainanese Chicken rice, Wat Tan Hor Fun and Nasi Lemak. Lots of tender chicken, good flavours. Hor Fun was nice too but could do with more wok hey. Nasi Lemak was a generous portion, nice sambal but rice didn't have coconut flavour. Staff very helpful and friendly. We may come back to try the other items on the menu.

Such a luck to find this fusion asian restaurant in Nottingham and not so far from my house. They have various type of asian foods to be offered, and since I am Indonesian so I ended up to order beef rendang and also mee goreng. The place was decent and cozy. We didn’t need to wait for long for the food. You will get a number placed to your table, like typical restaurant in Asia. Highly recommend this place

Amazing food, I had the aubergine in black bean sauce and salt and pepper quid. Laid back atmosphere and great service, I came in on a Sunday evening and my food arrived within 5 minutes. Highly recommend if you’re looking for super tasty food that arrives quickly!

Haven’t rated service and atmosphere due to order via uber eats. The food was delicious and diverse with something to suit every taste, the staff also ran out of the drink I ordered and remedied this by giving me two drinks and a handwritten note explaining this which was very nice of them. Couldn’t recommend this place enough.

Ordered malaysia ayam rendang and omg it was so good. It was proper spicy and they gave me so much ikan bilis (covered by keropok), I was soooo happy. Will definitely come back when I'm craving home.

Tried the Nasi Lemak and Teh Terik, and it turned out to be not suitable to my taste. I was looking for something authentic, but the fried chicken has disappointed me in every way. The atmosphere is not too bad. Might be a decent choice if you don’t mind not having authentic Malaysian taste.

A yummy and large portion of stir fry!

An unassuming location that serves brilliant food. You're welcomed in, there is a brilliant range of food from various cuisines and all cooked freshly. Very well priced and a range of people there. Very well worth a visit and will be returning many times in the future. Friendly staff and amazing options suitable for all.

Love the food, been a few times and am on a mission to try most of the food on the Malaysian/Chinese/Japanese menu. Beff Randang was lovely along with the spicy beef noodle soup

The busy eatery serves many breakfasts to workmen in the morning and was taken over by Chinese owners last year, so there is now a really delicious Asian menu with food for very competitive prices and everything top notch and delicious. It has a high fluorescent beam content so the atmosphere could be better, the service is very fast but messy

Don't let the slightly incongruous name or venue fool you, this is a real hidden gem. The food here is really fantastic with staff to match. I've been 7/8 times since it's become an "Oriental" restaurant and loved it every time. The super friendly staff have guided me out of my western European culinary comfort zone by suggesting some amazing dishes and it's shot to the top of my list as one of my favourite places to eat. Highly recommend.

Great oriental diner. Very generous portions and quite a wide variety of dishes to choose from - Thai, Chinese, Japanese etc. The staff are lovely too. Place could do with a bit of a refurb inside as not much has changed since the previous owners sold up.

Booked for 7 people. The food was absolutely amazing. we shared about 8 Asian main dishes & all were so nice. Also, the service was so warm and friendly and a must visit if you're in Nottingham.

They are very inconsistent when it comes to dishes. I ordered some wings the other day and they tasted nice and looked completed different to the ones I got today. The ones I got today tasted burnt and had no flavour. Called the restaurant and all she did was shift the blame to Deliveroo. No offer of resolution.

The only place I go for food in Notts. Just fantastic.

Excellent Satay and very friendly

This was suggested from a colleague and it didn't disappoint. Went with the roast pork with rice. The char siu was delicious! The BBQ sauce was so good and the pork was really moist. A really good sized portion without it being "too much". Order and pay at the counter with food and drinks delivered promptly. Definitely coming back again.

Malaysian cuisine is limited in the UK in general and definitely in Notts. I can't explain how happy I am to have GB Café in my life now. Super friendly staff, crazy tasty food and very much a regular return location! I highly highly recommend Hainanese Chicken Rice as the most comforting and delicious chucky dinner you can get in any cuisine.

Went here with my daughter and partner, food was top class, service excellent, lovely servers polite informative, it was a Saturday night, jam packed walked in managed to get the last table, notlong to wait for food. Decor plain but very clean and reasonable priced this is a must for me again next time in the city 9 out 10 thanks

I would like to consider myself a sushi veteran of Nottingham having tried majority of all sushi’s places here, gb sushi offers an amazing range of sushi super fresh tasty and beautifully presented. Furthermore after ordering similar dishes everytime I visit the chef offered me for free 2 pieces of seared salmon nigiri something I have never tried before and was throughly impressed by not only the flavour but also the texture 10/10 would definitely recommended superservice great price one very happy customer.

We ordered a halal breakfast, along with chicken and sweetcorn soup (also halal) and plenty of drinks. As I was placing the order, the server noticed my partner wasn’t feeling well, so she thoughtfully made him a lemon, ginger, and honey Japanese tea with chicken and sweetcorn soup. When serving us, she kindly assured us that all the meat options on the menu are fully halal and certified. As we sat down, it was heartwarming to see people from all walks of life around us, truly reflecting the multicultural community of Sneinton. The food itself tasted spectacular and was great value for money specifically the cooked breakfast!

Fantastic food, my favourite meal out for a long time!

That is a nice afternoon. We are just finishing watching movies and finding a place for lunch. A friend recommends us to go here for lunch. Price is reasonable, and cuisines are full of choices. The place is clean, the food is good and the staff is polite. You can have a marvelous time here.

I love this place. If you’re looking for good quality grub which will fill you then this is the place. The food is delivered with a wide variety. Plus, it’s decently priced. I’ve been a few times and the service is always friendly and polite, even when super busy. Atmosphere wise: it’s one of those local cafes. It’s not fancy and there are no thrills but it’s not needed as the food is great. Everything has always been clean when I’ve visited.

Wish I’d known earlier that they started doing Asian cuisines. Yummy foods, large portion sizes, homely atmosphere and probably the only place in Nottingham with more Malaysian dishes on the menu.

Gorgeous food and enormous portions. Make sure you go hungry! The food came out piping hot and quickly. Although it was 8pm on a Saturday it was very quiet, so I feel this is a hidden gem and expect it to get very popular soon.

Simply the best traditional Hong Kong style "cha chaan teng" in Nottingham. Great food, and I highly recommend the beef brisket curry on white rice.

Another very tasty lunch at GB Cafe, with the usual fill of Malaysian dishes. There's now crab on the menu and Andy (chef) can make chilli, black pepper and kam heong. Delicious!!

Lovely food. Good service. Café style set up. We didn't have the all day breakfast but that just looked amazing. But we did have the braised beef, belly pork and aubergine. Superb! Sorry no photos, food all gone before it hit the table.
