Lovely lunch, ciabatta sandwiches very tasty. However, Gather is closing as a restaurant to become a wedding venue. Would have recommended if it didn't close tomorrow

One of the best locations in Dumfries and Galloway close to A75 which you can’t see or hear. Modern elegant restaurant with outside terraces with chunky wooden tables, heating and blankets. Fabulous views down to Mossyard. Restaurant food could be more adventurous with more locally sourced produce- a lot is typical burgers/ fish/ chips that you can find in many local pubs and cafes. Bit of a wasted opportunity in such a stunning location.

We went to the South Indian evening tonight. The place was a little hard to find in the dark, but worth it. The restaurant was decked out beautifully but tastefully for Christmas, the staff were lovely and the food was incredible. At least the equal of anything I've had in Edinburgh and approaching anything from West Yorkshire where I was brought up. Anyone who knows the area around Huddersfield, Leeds and Bradford knows that this is praise indeed.

A really super lunch today. From our very warm welcome by Massimo service was impeccable. Food was delicious. The shared Camembert was oozing perfectly, our various main courses were all enjoyed and then we kept going with a mixture of Strawberry Cheesecake and Maple and Pecan Tarts. A unanimous thumbs up all-round. We then went up to the glass dome (Crystal Maze-esq) for Coffee which has phenomenal views. Strongly recommend.

Service at Gather on Sunday late afternoon was awful. Ordered coffee and cake, coffees came first 5minutes later cake slice but a good 8minutes later I had to go and ask where the 2slices of chocolate cake were to be told they'd ran out of plates and were waiting on dishwasher to finish it was another couple minutes later cake arrived when we were all finished coffees. 1star for views.

A visit to Gather at Laggan is an absolute must! Stunning hillside location overlooking the sea and Galloway hills. Amazing interior and the food is wonderful. Reasonably priced too. Lots of different cuisines, locally sourced food and seafood. The service is excellent. The Laggan team are so courteous and polite and nothing is too much trouble. One of my favourite restaurants of all time and a wonderful addition to our annual holiday in Mossyard.

We brought different friends here 3 times in the last two weeks for dinner and they were all wowed by it - location, food and service. There were always interesting specials. I have mixed feelings about Gather, but overall I'm sorry to say that my experiences are not too great. Yes, it's a prime location for a restaurant - the views are great. But that's about it. I've been here a number of times for breakfast, lunch and dinner because it's hard to write a review based only on one visit. Unless of course it was just plain awful, which it never was here, it was just OK'ish. Place was always tidy, staff were pleasant (although it was hard to get their attention at times as they were almost always hanging around the bar busy entertaing each other, so not attentive enough) and as I said the views are great, but you'll get them anywhere around here. Where Gather failed on these multiple occasions was the food and most of all presentation. I like taking pictures of the food we have to share in my reviews however here it wasn't worth it. Although, now I'm thinking that I should've taken some to prove my point. Breakfast - basic small fry-up with poached eggs still in water on the plate, all not very warm and just randomly placed on each plate. Lunch - probably the best of the three but very ordinary. Dinner - We invited another couple to come with us who had scampi - well, you could get a better one from a local chippy. Veggie burger was probably the nicest of all the meals we've ordered. The desert - it was a tart from the bakers placed on a plate. Same goes for the sticky toffee pudding. None of the meals were garnished - very poor. Also, bear in mind that if there's a wedding next door the restaurant can get quite busy with folk getting real loud. If you just want to enjoy the views with a cup of tea, a pint of beer or whatever you fancy, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I might give it another try in the future to see if things improved any, but at the moment I cannot recommend Gather to anyone. Especially with the prices being what they are. If you're looking for a tasty food in the area then the Old School House near Ringford right on the A75 is the place to go - just remember to book in advance. Or if you're in Dumfries then give the Usual Place a try. It's run in part by volunteers and food is cooked and served by people with disabilities who train to a national standard - you'll be impressed. Meat and non-meat options are available in both and the food and presentation are superb. And the prices are more reasonable too. Gather could learn a lot just from one visit to the Usual Place.

We've eaten here many times but today was so disappointing. Service was extremely slow and we had to ask for our wine and drinks which we could see sitting on the bar. The goulash was so sweet it couldn't be eaten but it was still on the bill. There were seven of us. One waitress was extremely helpful. Has the opening of Murray Arms affected the standard?

Food was good quality and reasonably priced, the menu was a little confused, and I was expecting a little more meaty options given that it was on and run by a livestock farm! If it was seasonal, then that should've been clearer. However, the food we did have was very tasty and arrived with little delay, the wine was at just the right temperature and the views were spectacular. Will definitely be going back as my sister lives nearby so visit regularly. Hope to see a steak on the menu next time!!!

THE WORST POLLUTER IN THE AREA This is a lovely place- however they are destroying the local environment by polluting the first Dark Sky Park in the UK with their bright lights. The Galloway Forest Park has been designated by the International Dark-Sky Association as only the fourth Dark Sky Park in the World, and the first in the UK and each night, the lights of Laggan shine out over the bay and can be seen for miles around. They advertise themselves as ‘a place with exceptionally dark night skies’ And say that they have been named a Gold Tier park for ‘breath-taking and rare stargazing conditions’. They suggest we join them ‘to view the beautiful night sky whether that's up in the hills behind Laggan or from your own hot tub in a sea view snug.’ But their own lights shine out across the bay destroying the views and dark skies for miles around. They are the worst light polluter in the area. So, until they sort their lights out and start respecting the local environment, i would not recommend staying or eating here- and if you do, then you know that all of your lights are visible and bright to the whole area, and are actively destroying something precious and beautiful that they are using to market themselves. There are simple lighting solutions to this as they could simply angle all their lights downwards and reduce their brightness appropriate to protecting a dark skies area. We have had multiple meetings over the last years where they have assured us they would address the issues and yet still their pollution is the worst in the area and is actually getting worse.

The decor and ambience etc was just lovely and tastefully christmas themed. Party of three.. First course...2x whitebait and 1 other dish Second course...3 x christmas specials...2x turkey and 1x beef. The first courses were just delicious...sadly the mains were a total washout? Plates not warmed...pigs in blankets good..again meat wasnt hot..veggies not cooked enough.. Yorkshire pud..roast potatoes ok...all a bit meh? I dont think the roasties were cooked in the oven though...more deep fried which arent as authentic? All of the party didnt eat half of the meal...which was very disappointing? The maître-d was very apologetic and removed two of the meals from the bill without any fuss? Doesnt bode well for family members' wedding breakfast in next couple of years????

This is a beautiful restaurant with a lovely view and friendly staff. But, I felt compelled to leave a review because the food wasn’t what I expected. We’re really careful about where we eat out because of health reasons - we look for clean, homemade food. The website and menu present as being very quality, local, homemade food. A lot of the food comes from a can or is frozen - the waitress told me when I asked about a few items. And, they are cooking in quite a low quality vegetable oil that leaves that film in your mouth. They also don’t allow any swaps - we couldn’t even get the kids pancakes without Nutella, so we had to order my son the adult ones. I still gave it 4 stars because it was a lovely spot with lovely staff. I just wish they would make the food fresh especially given the amazing quality of local produce around.

Have been to Gather multiple times for lunch in the past and it has always been great but went for breakfast for the first time and it was a disappointment. It seems like standards have massively slipped. Staff need barista training as I ordered a flat white and received a large white coffee - not the same thing. We also felt we could have made the breakfast better at home. Sausages were over cooked meanwhile fried eggs were undercooked and beans were cold. At £40 for two breakfasts and two coffees this isn’t acceptable. Staff are very attentive until you have your food and then no one will come back to check in. We had to go to the bar to pay as it was difficult to flag down a member of staff and it wasn’t even busy. Not a chance you could easily order another drink or ask for some sauce. Views and interior were beautiful as always but it’s a shame the standard seems to have slipped so low. Used to be our favourite spot in the area but don’t think we’ll be rushing back.

We visited Gallie Craig Coffee House during the first week of September on a beautiful sunny day, with temperatures at a pleasant 22 degrees. The setting was perfect, and the atmosphere of the café made our day even more delightful. The coffee house offers not just delicious food and drinks but also truly remarkable customer service. We accidentally left behind our son’s Adidas jacket during our visit. When we called the next day, the kind lady assured us that she had kept it safe and that we could come and collect it anytime. Such thoughtful and attentive service speaks volumes about how much they care for their customers. This level of hospitality, combined with the stunning surroundings, makes Gallie Craig Coffee House a must-visit spot. Highly recommend it to anyone in the area! Thank you for your help and support.

One of the best little tea rooms I've been to. Coffee & delicious cake. The lady who owns it is lovely , very chatty. Added bonus, there is a selection of small antiques for sale. I went back the following day for 1 thing & bought 6 things as couldn't make my mind up . Lots of lovely things to browse through. Will definitely visit again when in the area.
