Sunday roast.. Everything but the meat was good, unfortunately the beef was hard to cut and hard to chew, we should of complained but felt unable as with local friends. So we didn't complain at the time or send our food back to change the meat for more edible slices because it's seen as spoiling the atmosphere and didn't want to make a scene. The gate has come back to us and said we should of mentioned at time but that's hard to do...so we didn't! Basically all chefs shouldn't let meat out that's practically inedible....but the rest, veg, potatoes were nice.

Lovely busy atmosphere,lot of couples and groups of friends. Service friendly and enthusiastic very polite.Food served well , portions spread out decoratively but not large. Food cooked well and tasty ,unfortunately food quality was average .Cod dry bland batter,, ribeye tasty but meat so so considering the price.

Good Atmosphere however, been here twice on a Thursday and both times it smells of fish when entering. Thinking it might have been fish night?!

My husband and I had such a lovely meal here. We had the crab, chorizo, prawn and scallop linguine which was delicious! Our server Ron was very attentive and was great

Basic pub food. Very busy on a Saturday lunchtime but staff were great and atmosphere was good. I had the chicken burger and it was ok.

We arrived and were greeted and seated straight away. Each of us had something different from the menu and we were all pleased with the quality and presentation of the food. It was delicious. It was very busy when we were there at lunchtime, so the service was quite good as they has lots of people to attend to. Would definitely go again.

Wonderful lunch today at The Gate, our first visit here. We had the valentine's set menu and really enjoyed all the food. The service was friendly and fast, even through a busy service. Will return!

Nice little pub with a cosy vibe. Went for a roast dinner which was very tasty but the beef was very tough. Wasn’t asked how the meal was at the restaurant.

Came by myself for a quick dinner. Food was brilliant, I had the pork belly and an apple tart. Main took a bit of time to arrive, but very worth the wait. Looking forward to coming back

My husband and I have been going to the Gate for some time and noticed a decline in food quality and service. We went for the last time on the 23 of December. The food was cold, the roast potatoes days old, the soup was cold, again days old and disgusting. It took 2 and a half hours to be served soup and a main course. The dessert never arrived. Staff are rude, leave dirty plates on the table. Customers where asking the waiter to take the service charge of the bill as did we. Save your hard earned money and go elsewhere , this place is an insult to customer care.

Lovely meal, nice atmosphere, and the service from our waitress Ella was great. She was super attentive and provided a great service.

We had a party of 17 and this place was full, and the team still managed to to serve us hot delicious food. I'm always a bit sceptical of christmas menues at pubs, they're usually a let down, but not here. The food was tasty, service was brilliant and the staff really were lovely. My only complaint was that I was driving, so I couldn't stay on and enjoy more time there. Would totally recommend The Gate, I'll be back, I've been told the Sunday roasts are the nuts, friends words not mine,lol!

The acoustics is poor - it was hard to hear ourselves speak. The food and service were excellent!

Our second Car Club Christmas Dinner here, and even better than last year! 32 of us sat to great food (and we were all served together) and great service from the staff. Chloe, Zoe and all their staff organised our evening brilliantly, and the kitchen staff did us proud! Our members were very impressed by the quality and value for money of the food on the Festive Menu, and are already talking about us booking again for next year! A great evening at a great venue, with excellent parking and easy access for one of our wheelchair-bound members.

We come to The Gate at least once a year as it's a great location just off the motorway to meet friends or family living elsewhere. On this occasion however that was a downside, as traffic on the M25 meant we were horrifically late. The team and especially our waitress couldn't have been more accommodating and understanding (and ultimately apologetic when we had to leave the table for other guests - which was our fault not theirs!) The food and drinks were great as always (good selection of cocktails) and the Christmas decorations were also lovely.

Had a lovely time at the Gate whilst it was busy the service was excellent especially Chloe. Food was delicious .

All the staff - management, table service etc were very welcoming, accommodating, and efficient in spite of having to cope with the intense demands of a full restaurant. The meal was also very good!

I go every couple of months to meet friends and the meal is always good. On this occasion my grumble is we were unable to have the mini desert and coffee as the coffee machine wasn’t working. They could only provide tea, which we didn’t want, or charge full price for the mini desert. The gravy with the pie had quite a strong taste. We have booked to go again. The staff are lovely.

We had our team Christmas lunch at the Gate. The food was excellent, the decor was lovely and we were looked after by the fabulous Chloe.

Has an air of quality with friendly staff.

We were a family party of 6 and chose The Gate because it was equidistant from our homes and close to the M25. We had a great time and enjoyed the ambience, the food and the service. Most of us chose the Festive Menu which was delicious, and the Chapel Down sparkling wine which again was appropriate for the occasion. Our server was very helpful and solved our confusion over vouchers. We shall definitely be meeting up again at The Gate.

Dinner with a friend on a Wednesday. We had Harrisa Lamb and steak and Merlot pie. Both fantastic. Friendly attentive service.

I have visited this restaurant quite a few times and I'm always happy to return. I visited again last Sunday lunchtime with friends and each of us felt the same way. We were served by George who was as charming and polite as he was an excellent server. Nothing was too much trouble and the service was superb. We even complimented him to the restaurant manager who agreed with us! Each of our main were plentiful, very tasty and served hot! These were followed by delicious desserts and we particularly like the option to have a mini dessert served with a hot drink of choice. The ambiance is lovely and it's easy to hold a conversation...(not always possible in some restaurants nowadays!). My only qualm was the dim lighting to read the menu but otherwise not a problem! We are all looking forward to returning to The Gate again.

Food, venue and the staff were very good and I would visit again. The only negative was we had a long wait for food and between each course, with the restaurant not overly busy and no explanation offered.

Huge amount of oil in gravy and in sauces. I hardly touched my meal and despite leaving it and providing feedback - no price reduction. Really slow and poor service

It was lovely to meet up with old friends on a surprisingly busy Tuesday night at The Gate Chorleywood. We are always greeted by friendly staff and the food is good. Prices have gone up in recent times, but they seem to have everywhere. They email discounts from time to time so worth going on their email list.

Food gone downhill and far too expensive for what you get. Service very poor, even though not busy. Waited ages for food.

Mediocre food and very slow service

I was told fish came with potatoes and green beans. I counted 4 half green beans. Hardly one of your 5 a day. I big disappointment. Otherwise it was very pleasant. They need to make descriptions clearer. I don't imagine a full portion would have cost any more And my poached pear came with a brushing of chocolate sauce. More like melted chocolate for decoration.

Great food flavours and combinations, friendly and relaxed (in a good way) service; honestly, can't fault it!

The food, service and atmosphere were terrific. Too often when you eat out for Sunday lunch you get wafer thin meat and flavourless veg. Not yesterday. The duo of beef that I had were probably the best roast I've ever had outside my home, and everyone else enjoyed theirs equally as much, The service was very efficient and friendly. We will be back!

We had an excellent Sunday lunch at The Gate. The food was very good. The selection of drinks excellent. The staff were friendly and attentive. Good value for money. We have visited The Gate on numerous occasions but they have certainly upped their game! I would recommend a visit!

Lovely and friendly staff. Had a Sunday roast, whilst portions are a good size, the food was just luke warm, no proper vegetables with the roast, but a small portion of shredded greens. The butternut squash Wellington is Not a Wellington! More like a a veg stew in a pie, no taste to it and the vegetables were rather soggy. Needed to be reduced down with some seasoning before putting in the pastry. Rather disappointing. Really busy so the service was very slow.

Everything other than the dirty burger was a good experience. Very disappointed with it's quality for a price tag of £20. The bun was very mid and the patty was bland and 'felt' no different to a frozen burger patty. The prawn and squid starters were lovely. The sticky toffee pudding desert tasted very traditional and was very warming.

Lovely pub just 2 minutes off junction 18 of the M25. We were stuck in traffic, and this was a great place for sitting out the Friday traffic jam. The food was excellent, the service was quick, and the staff were friendly. I had two starters as the main meals all looked too big for my needs

I always have a lovely time here and there's lots of good food options for vegetarians. However there were loads of flies in the restaurant.

They have a great value set lunch menu where you can have three courses for less than £25. There was enough choices in the set menu to cater for most tastes. The food was served hot and a good portion size. Staff was professional, friendly and not intrusive. The restaurant was clean, spacious and airy. Really nice place, would definitely visit again.

Reina/ Rei what a mixologist. Anything this Lady makes I would drink the only thing I would recommend is confidence she is amazing but needs to build this up. I didn’t eat but all the other staff were incredible with the the basics so you know they nail the more complex. Will visit again

Not:usual:standard the ribeye steak I had did not have the full complement of items there was no tomatoes or mushrooms so feel that I not get the meal as advertised on the menu I only realised this when I got home and checked the menu on line very disappointed Edward
