Staff are brilliant been coming here for over 20 years and the food and the staff are all high standards we love this as are local

We have been coming here since I can remember we love the food and staff are always friendly. You can see they all enjoy being there and try to help asmuch as they can highly recommend very family friendly

We love our local having moved up from the Midlands last year. The new landlords have had a hard act to follow from the previous landlords but with time they will put their own mark on the pub.After a few teething problems things are settling down and the buzzing atmosphere is returning. The food as always is great value for money served piping hot by friendly staff.

Food excellent. Chicken salad best pub salad around. Burger's good but maybe less chips needed.

The new management are one of the best! So friendly, amazing food and amazing local customers!

Death of a good little local. I remember visiting the gardeners with my Dad some 20 years ago as a little girl, I tried my first steak here, had my first sip of a lager shandy, and have continued to visit at least once a week for the past 5 years. Used to be a great space to head after work for a quick drink, a cheap tea out, and the atmosphere was always decent. We have celebrated many birthdays, many cold rainy nights and many sunny days sat in the beer garden watching the old folk bowl on the green. Visiting again today after giving it a wide birth for a while (hoping the new owners were just having teething issues), yet we were faced with the same problems as the last 6 or so visits. Awful quality of food, miserable looking staff and blaring unsociable music. Portions are now tiny, steaks are cooked so awfully I genuinely thought they could have been boiled, and drinks all served in non-branded glasses. Flies circling tables and menus stuck together, dark, dingy and most importantly - horrifically empty. A sun-shining Saturday in May, and around 5 people inside and 2 tables outside. This place used to be buzzing regardless of weather or day of the week. It’s clear that the pub has taken a turn for the worst and it’s such a shame after all the many memories spent here - it’s genuinely saddening. New owners are expected to have teething issues, but we’re several months into change and every single aspect has taken a turn for the worst. We miss the old staff, the old food quality, the old life that lived within the walls of the gardeners. Won’t be a return for us very sadly.

Tock my son and daughter-in-law for lunch on the 5th March 25, been a few times in the past, I ordered the a medium rump steak, it was worst steak I have ever had it was tough not been seasoned had to take some out of my mouth as I could not chew it. Tried my best with it but left over half. They need to review where they get they steaks from and get someone who know how they should be cooked. I WILL be informing my friends of my experience.

THE GARDENERS ARMS RESTAURANT THORNTON CLEVELEYS To be honest I really don’t know where to start when talking about our family experience at lunch time in the Gardeners Arms, Thornton, Lancashire, but here we go, I feel sick inside just thinking of the place. My daughter and her family live in Manchester and it was her who booked our table for 7 on Sunday 14th April. My son also came he lives in Warrington they came to meet up with his Mum & Dad for what we expected a lovely meal, nice staff, and great service, WE NEVER GOT EITHER. We where the first or second customers in the pub and we was given a table that look very much out of Oliver Twists days, there was so many spaces when we got in we could have been offered one of the descent tables? As time went on the pub and restaurant filled to capacity and within no time had their meals delivered to them we just had a napkin and knife and fork. ALL the customers in the restaurant where pretty much finished their meals when we got our meals over an hour of sitting waiting.. (after several requests to them). Bye now the place was emptying. Once again we had to go find a waiter to get spoons, salt etc, it was a case all afternoon of help yourself or chase a waiter for service. Three of the 7 ordered sweets, once again we waited and waited the looked for a waiter who where not bothered with us at all till one lad said I’ll go and have a look, he came back with three COLD sweets, they must have been on the chefs table for at leat 30 minutes waiting a waiter? At that stage. With. our family all together for the occasion we found it embarrassing to complain with customers listening so just had to grin and bear it. Although my wife ,me, and another husband had all chased our food for a couple of hours at the corner of the bar where it was a bit more private. Later the restaurant was now totally empty and just three people in total watching Liverpool playing football and us still eating. There was no point shouting or complaining re the service because we where ALL fuming and kept our cool so after eventually cooling after a couple of days and getting away from your unfriendly, unhappy, miserable staff cold food and having to hang around in the café The word Restaurant is over rated in the Gardeners arms case. The one thing that sticks in my mind when we had been waiting and looking at the Menu the lady waiter came along and said you can’t have most of that and I will bring you a list of what you can have, she came back with a small scrap of paper with scribbled food listed what we could have, remember we where first in the place and people were eating food we were told we couldn’t have , YES-they ate it. Reserved for them !! All our family had travelled a round trip over 100 miles to have our celebration at your place, boy what a bit mistake that was, we never one minute felt welcome or at ease. THAT’S THE LAST TIME WE WILL EVER SET FOOT IN YOU ALEHOUSE, WE HAVE LEARNT A LESSON. OUTSIDERS NOT WELCOME, YOU GET FED LAST AND WITH WHAT IS LEFT OVER. Thanks for a memorable crap experience.

We booked a table two weeks in advance to celebrate a special birthday — at a place we’ve loyally visited for the past three years. We’ve always enjoyed the food and made the 50-mile journey time and time again because it was worth it. Sadly, this visit made it painfully clear that things have taken a serious turn for the worse. On arrival, instead of being welcomed properly, we were handed a long, handwritten list of everything that wasn’t available. Not just one or two items — it felt like half the menu was missing. No apology, no clear communication, just a scribbled list and the expectation we’d somehow figure out what was left. A printed updated menu or at least a verbal rundown of what’s actually available would have shown some basic respect for customers. It turned what should’ve been a joyful occasion into a frustrating experience. We didn’t drive 50 miles to play a guessing game with the kitchen. To the new management: whatever changes you’ve made, they are not working. You’re riding on the reputation of what this place used to be — and people won’t keep coming back out of habit. Sort it out, or expect to lose more customers who, like us, have better things to do than waste their time and money on a place that appears to no longer deliver.

A nice pub serving traditional pub food. Varied menu with special offers at lunchtime and most weekdays. Staff are friendly and very polite. Food was delivered relatively quickly and tasted nice. Visited twice at lunchtime and not a lot of trade so no great atmosphere. Has a beer garden. Worth a visit if in the area.

Real good old fashioned pub,plenty of character and a friendly environment, great selection of Ales and tasty pork 🥧 pies.

The food was well cooked and delicious. Service was great. Monday was a good day to go because it's a bit quieter and also they have an offer on the ales. Background music not too loud. Will be back again.great place for food and /or a drink with friends. Hope that the pub stays as its one of the best in the area with good assortment of drink and friendly staff. The landlords are really good and work hard.

Brilliant place to eat, drink , very scruffy outside, not encouraging to enter. Could do with a MAJOR clean up, brush and shovel would help.

Brilliant experience at the gardeners arms this weekend. Staff are very welcoming and management couldn’t be more helpful. Our meal was exquisite and the whole place was clean couldn’t be more happy with it 👍

I rang to book a table & was asked if I can go up steps, I can't so they put us in a nice place with access to toilets close by. The food was served quickly & everything was really nice. Definitely worth a visit

Decent food, dated decor Update: On a recent visit food was overcooked yet cold, steaks were as tough as old boots and full of gristle, gents toilets were filthy and without paper or soap, will not be visiting again.

Me and my friend have been here twice now . Food and service and price have been great . Staff amazing to this place will be one of our regulars

Just visiting the area, The Gardeners is a big pub offering a typical Marston's menu. What stands out is the friendly team of young people that welcome you, the moment we entered young lady offered us menu and table. Upon studying the beers massive smiles and welcome from the staff engaging in conversation. Camra card welcomed Fine beers great atmosphere. Proper community pub, welcoming not pretentious. Proper Job

It was extremely busy,I was not aware they had a festival on.we did not have the table we were told no 20 instead of26.the bar service was good as was the food service,but some of the food was a little over cooked as if it had been sitting for a while.asked for runny eggs but obviously they were not freshly cooked.but it was ok been before and it was fine just don't think they had realised how busy they were going to be and it would have been nice to know there was an event on when I received a message from them to confirm the table number and booking

Had a voucher come through the door, I've never been before, thought I'd give it a try. I was very impressed, will certainly go again.

The large mix grill was fantastic and plenty of it. The sea bass meal was ok but the pasta had stuck together and the fish had dried out. (would not have it again) Maybe under the heat lamps a little too long before serving ? Thai curry and lasagna meals are really good 👍 Desserts are well priced. The atmosphere gets a 2 (this time) due to a large screaming group of approximately 12 people next to us. It was a Saturday tea time so maybe it's just us. Will I go again YES !

We like the gardeners for the informal ambience & relaxed atmosphere , the food is typical pub grub which is what you want in a pub on a Monday night with friends , enjoy this friendly pub guys x

Can’t comment on food, even though the ladies I came in with enjoyed there puddings. Found this pub had a cracking atmosphere staff welcoming and friendly. Thanks to the staff 👍

We popped in here while we was on holiday. The food was awesome, I had the Peri Peri melt and the wife had the hunter's chicken melt. Both loved it, and my daughter enjoyed her Lasagne. Service was good, too. The young girl was very helpful and happy.

Amazing experience staff was excellent there was 3 children a younger blond girl got the older children some colouring kept coming over to talk to my toddler and ask if everything was Okey...I need water for the babies bottle and no hesitation to get it for us...the food was amazing was quick at changing some peas for my son he's autistic and would of just had a meltdown

A lovely lunch experience today with friends celebrating their 57th Wedding Anniversary. Customer Service was excellent as was the food, and at great prices. The landlady was so dedicated and has to be commended for her thoughtfulness and kindness when thinking about customer needs. The Gardener's Arms is disabled friendly, and all our needs were met in that respect also. Lovely friendly atmosphere. Thank you and we will see you again soon 🤗

We went here recently on a busy Saturday night. Even so we didn’t have to wait long for our food which was delicious, I especially liked the choice and taste of the burgers. The staff were helpful and very friendly. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble, even though one of us has food allergies

We went out for my dad’s 86 birthday and Jo & the team couldn’t do enough for us. They even put balloons on the table which was a lovely surprise. The food & atmosphere was great, everyone had a great time👍

Dreadful service. Booked a time slot if between 7.15-7.45pm online ‘to dine’ and arrived at 7.30pm. A young man seated us and gave us cutlery and menus. There was absolutely no mention of needing to order quickly. Went to order our meals at 7.50pm to be told that the kitchen closes at 7.45pm with no exceptions. The staff were unapologetic. I can’t understand why we were not warned when we were seated and why there is an option to book tables ‘to dine’ at that time if the kitchen is closed. Won’t be going here again!

When going for the Meal there was no Menu out, although Food was nice & reasonably priced after ordering although lacking in Peas, Barbecue Sauce instead of Brown? & not sure why there was no Sundaes just Ice Cream? & the Music was way too loud! so just O.K. unfortunately.

There were 4 of us 3 adults and a child, we ordered our food and after a 10 minute wait it was on the table, I have never had bar food which was as hot as this was, we all had different options, mine was the stake and ale pie which was delicious and everyone made clean plates. I would highly recommend this pub for food and the atmosphere was excellent aswell.

This is a great, atmospheric place. Great service, and it has a bowling green at the back.

Food was worth the wait. Served quickly on the bar. Roof was leaking while I was there through the light fixtures which was very worrying. Electric atmosphere inside well worth the visit.

We really enjoyed our two course festive meal and drinks. The table was laid out lovely along with Christmas Crackers and the whole pub was nicely decorated for the Festive Season.

Jo and the team were fantastic, the table setting, the food, the whole experience was fantastic. 8 of us from 2.30 till nearly midnight, original plan was to move on around 7pm but we had no need to, after our food Jo got us another great table where we could enjoy the whole night, superb !

Absolutely wonderful place the food was amazing portion sizes were good for the price and the megamix grill with the peppercorn sauce is to die for. All cuts of meat were tender and moist and just about melted in your mouth. definitely have to go there again

Brilliant place to visit while here on holiday. Jo, Andy and the bar staff are very welcoming and the food is second to none with big portions. All reasonably priced as well with a good choice and a wide selection of beers, wines and spirits. Would highly recommend this establishment if you are ever visiting or just passing. Went this evening for tea ordered a steak medium it came burnt to a frazzle sent it back when it came back again the rest of my food was cold and the steak was so rare it was blue thought we would give it a try as looking for somewhere nice for my birthday next week for about 15 people needless to say we will not be going there.

We discovered this place this week. It is wonderful. Great food, service and clean!! We are moving to Thornton Cleveleys very soon, and this will be a regular visit for sure.
