Disappointed with the Fisherman's Catch last Saturday very dry seemed to have been sat under a warming lamp for a while having said that drinks were fine and staff efficient and friendly

Not been in for a while very impressed prawns and soup were excellent haddock was amazing big piece with lots of chips definitely recommend

Don't eat here. The bar staff were good however the food is if possible below 1 star. Waited 1 hr 40 mins for a Hot n Spicy Chicken Burger. Looked like a slice of chicken - embarrassed to say I couldn't eat it and ended up spitting some of it out. Was not prepared to wait another 1 hr 40 for a replacement. Waiting on staff did not come to ask how the food was. Two friends were served Fish, peas and salad...the order was Fish, chips and peas....

First time here since being closed for upgrade and it didn’t disappoint. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere and food excellent, much improved. Well done everyone. We will be back very soon.

Wonderful as usual from James behind the bar fantastic service and all the team attentive as usual and the food today was excellent as usual my chicken tikka flat bread was really tasty and well seasoned definitely having that again and the rest of the meals for my friends were fabulous too and great choice of drinks thank you all the team always do a fabulous job 🍻🍻

My experience at the castle gardens was fantastic. The food was great. All came out promptly and prepared wonderfully. Andy and Vinny were a real pleasure and always gave us service with a smile. Yet another enjoyable quiz night at The Castle Gardens. My friends and I meet up every few weeks or so to catch up, have some food and drinks together. Friendly staff, good service and a good night out regardless of how many points we achieve.

We love the Castle Gardens and go to the fantastic quiz every few weeks. The staff are always friendly & helpful. Rachel is great as Quiz master. I also go with my family for meals, the food is nice and the atmosphere perfect. We’ve hardly had any problems, if we have it has always been dealt with professionally and quickly. I/we will always recommend the Castle Gardens, it is value for money and a great atmosphere.

We visit on a regular basis and Rachel is a very welcoming host and has always looked after us really well. They do a weekly pub quiz that is entertaining and good to get involved with. We really enjoy our time there when we visit. The food and drinks are decent, served by staff who want you to have a nice experience.

Staff and food are great. Can't help you enough. They recently updated the menu and it's now excellent. Shout out to Rachel for her Quizmastering and to Emily of course. Really good gastro pub.

My food was shocking. It was burnt lasagne with rock hard garlic bread and wilted salad, and the lasagne was no more than a child's size

Wow! The staff here are super friendly and make this pub my favourite and all my friends and family. Jordan and Vinny are the funniest bartenders and always provide amazing customer service skills. Charlotte and liv always provide my food with a smile and are super helpful. Rachel the quiz queen is always kind and funny when I’m there which makes my visit even better. I would 1000% recommend this place for the food and the people

Ideally situated at the cross roads in Carleton and was very busy when we visited on a Thursday afternoon plenty to choose from in food and drink and the locals seem to agree with that. The pub has plenty of room inside and outside and feels enormous.

Quite a busy venue at lunchtime however staff were friendly and helpful - carried drinks to the table - something I find difficult

The meal was absolutely rubbish. The fisher finger sandwich had mushy salad in it with mushy peas which all look frazzled. Thebes mushrooms my wife had once you open the crumb shell was just frazzled squashed mushrooms. The sea bass very small with skin on it and came with the mash (ordered) no veg. This was a 98 year olds meal he was totally ashamed that he had recommended the place in which he has shares. The other lady had the gammon most of which was left. Then the old boy wanted to use the toilet which was disgusting and hadn’t been flushed. Lynsey our waitress tried to help but we were 1 table of many complaining Yeah

First visit after the refurb. Ordered a mixed grill. The eggs, steak, onion rings and mushroom all over cooked. Chips were rubbery like they had been kept warm for a while. Menu prices have increased. Same old menu and needs a refresh. Disappointed and Ember Inns need to up their game if they want people to pay the higher prices for what is budget quality food. The menu needs a real good shake up and if you can't offer more variety give more options ie does a chicken burger have to be either spicy or have crispy bacon? My wife's meal was a little better than mine but the shepherds pie was served in an individual pie dish with gravy drops all around it. It would not be unreasonable to expect the serving dish to be wiped clean! This really is not good enough for a market with so much competition.

Visited a second time as food and service was great on our first visit. Lovely cosy area by the fire. Most of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Good pub food and can definitely recommend the cheesecake.

Had my first visit to this pub and found it absolutely charming. The cozy log fire created a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing drink. The outdoor seating was spacious and well-maintained, ideal for enjoying a sunny day. Plus, the restrooms were clean and well-kept—a small but important detail. Overall, a great spot with plenty of character. Looking forward to returning!

The most ridiculous music playlist for a family food pub I’ve experienced. From normal background to fast dance music whilst people having there Sunday dinner. Read the room and dial it back, spoils what is a decent place.

The Daytime 3 course set menu was incredible value for money. Every course I had was excellent and the new decor inside was lovely.

Had a ham wrap, very dry and uninspiring , very pricey for little effort. Disappointing.

The staff who were previously good are now clearly very unhappy in their work. Sullen bordering on rude. Not interested in the customer and slow with drinks.

Really nice food, good beer and very reasonably priced. Bit chilly in the back area but will deffo go back and hopefully sit near the fire :)

Goes beyond 5 stars, friendly warm atmosphere, decor is traditional, toilets clean and spacious.seating comfortable and clean . Exceptional service from Rachel. Food is delicious. The rainbow Lasagnea was refreshingly light but wholesome. The ultimate burger was very tasty. Prices are reasonable to. Good variety on food and drinks menu. We will definitely be coming back. Great place for a pint, a brew or a meal. Sit by the open fire and warm your cockles.

Although previous reviews were somewhat off putting, we visited here at lunchtime on Sunday. The staff were so friendly and efficient, the menu was varied and not pricey and the restaurant and toilets were clean. I had the hand-battered sea bass which was absolutely delicious, others in my party really enjoyed the vegetable lasagne and spinach and mushroom wellington.

Went to a wake here with free drink and buffet included, absolutely brilliant 👏 👌

It was an anniversary dinner Couldn’t have been happier with the experience. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful. Emily behind the bar truly made us feel very welcome. The food was amazing and the drinks were great. No long wait times and everything came out perfectly. The whole place was lovely and clean and had a very cosy atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back in the future

Very good lunch menu. Tasty food nicely presented. Staff are great. Just tried the set evening menu. Very nice. Nachos were tasty with 4 sauces. Gammon was well cooked with nice trimmings. Sticky toffee pudding was okay but lacked butterscotch punch. Nice custard though. All in all good value.

Very disappointed been a few times never had a bad meal here service always brilliant, just very disappointed on this vist as changed our plans around so could vist on a Friday (as we usually visit on a sat but we all wanted to try the lunch menu which is only mon to Fri) we was ALL looking forward to a starter and then ham egg and chips only to be told they run out off ham HOW ! ?

Best pint of course in the north-west! Food was fantastic good value for money.special thanks to Vinny the waiter looked after us during are time there very nice young man

It was ok lovely pub but not very welcoming by the staff the pulled lamb shepherd pie was all potatoes and gravy not a lot of lamb the veg was hard, easy access for wheelchairs all on one level

This is my local pub so I have visited multiple times. Overall the staff are lovely but often items of food are delivered wrong (e.g with salad when I asked for it plain). It is a little expensive but that’s expected. Overall it’s a cute little pub.

It's pub grub but nice pub grub

We've been meaning to try Castle Gardens since we moved to the area and today we decided on dining there. Although the fires were burning, the place still felt very cold and it was only upon leaving 40 minutes later we actually felt quite warm. Maybe they need to turn the central heating on a little earlier. The drinks arrived; glasses were filthy - lipstick marks and oily fingerprints. We were given clean glasses once we pointed them out to the staff. The service was friendly, although nobody came to check if everything was okay during the meal - it wasn't actually busy. The food was good. We opted for the slow-cooked rib of beef which was nice and tender. Dauphinoise potatoes were delicious, but the steamed veg probably only saw steam when it exited the microwave. Overall an okay experience. We might give it a while before we return.

I went to the castle gardens last night for my brother’s birthday and ordered the lasagna. It looked like it had been microwaved and burned the roof of my mouth even after trying to let it cool down. The server who served us seemed very unhappy and wasn’t very welcoming. Definitely won’t return.

Some friends arranged a meet up in Castle Gardens on Saturday. The food was really disappointing to say the least. It turned what was meant to be a joyous occasion quite sour. We definitely won't be returning.

Me and my wife have been going to castle gardens for a very long time we have not been for about 6 weeks went yesterday I have the burger rely very and tasty not yesterday not much taste and definitely smaller sorry to say we will go back but with regrets I will not be having the burger we were asked is everything OK but my wife felt a bit unwell and it would of meant taking my food away and my wife eating me with nothing in front of me it spoil it

Food below average. Ordered the Duo Sunday roast which was very disappointing. The gammon was the very salty and the Chicken was very dry. Veg and Roast potatoes were bland and were cooked from frozen! Expected the food to be freshly cooked 😔

We are locals. Popped in after work one night had a couple of great meals..nothing spectacular but edible and good. Sunday 14th Sept..had worked all day..decided to try a roast dinner. 2 x beef dinners ordered..less than 10 minutes and they were on the table. I said Wow..that was quick..our waitress said everything was pre prepped. Presentation..very good. Taste..the beef was amazing but cold..as were the green vegetables the temp was piping. However cold roast poratoes..hard carrots and parsnips..and cold gravy. I tried to catch the waitresses attention however no one came near us or interacted us after bringing our meals. It has not put us off..its a great venue and has parking.

We visited The Castle Gardens last Friday and had the Chargrilled Lamb Koftas, Grilled Fillets of Sea Bass with potatoes, king prawns, peas and hollandaise sauce, Mixed Grill (Rump steak, chargrilled chicken breast, gammon steak, pork sausages) and a Chocolate Orange Sponge Pudding. Me and my hubby thoroughly enjoyed everything we tried here from the hearty starter to the flavourful mains and scrummy pudding - a proper pub grub and a well deserved pint after a tiring work week.

Treated my sister to lunch today, Thurs 12/9/24. Were shown to a table for 2, set a tab up at the bar, whilst we perused the memu. I had a mixed grill, upgraded to 8oz rump steak, my sister had the sausage and mash. Lovely food, well presented and plenty of it. Great vaue too. We'll be back again very soon.

I hadn't eaten there for a while due to the food being a bit underwhelming. The food has now really improved, we all had something different off the menu and we all really enjoyed it. Some staff are still a bit stand-offish though.

Food was nice and a great price too. Real ale also good. Will call again soon.

Brilliant again .well worth a visit. But book if going at a busy time.

Over familiar staff member. Food was okay but the Sunday lunch meats were awful. Cold and overcooked. Paid an extra price for cauliflower cheese which was made from the stalks not the florets and was watery. Plus the meal was very salty.

I ordered the lasagne. Had been over microwave. Most was stuck to side of dish. Also had abit of clingfilm in my side salad. First visit here and will be my last

After some time away I thoroughly enjoyed my curry tonight with the sliced chillies that were as hot as Lyndsey. My Son cleaned his plate too. Top beer, great service and a pleasant time there. Special thanks to Vinnie who was on it and provided excellent customer service. Thanks all.

Booked a table today for tonight ready for us on our arrival. Lovely food and atmosphere will definitely be back again.

I am sooooo frustrated. I came here last week for food and ended up joining the quiz. Apparently they now have a pay and display and a maximum stay of 3 hours, which is wild considering it’s a pub. I feel like people need to be told when being served about this as I am sure this didn’t used to be the situation in the car park. Just felt like people deserved a heads up as I have just be charged £60. Not ideal :(

Ordered slow cooked rib of beef, bone in. It was very chewy and stringy Concidering the price I was very disappointed. No one came over to ask is every OK. I won't be going back.

Have been before, July last year, and I remember it being better, the menu has shrunk and the service was very slow and it wasn't even that busy. Ordered an "Ultimate Burger" and there was really nothing ultimate about it, I was expecting a big burger to come out and what I was greeted with was a burger that was enough for a child, perhaps renaming it might be an idea, and the food wasn't really that hot either. The rest of the food was ok, but none of us were blown away by it, there are far better places to eat with a better menu. Sadly, I don't think I'll be returning back here any time soon.

Poor service, wrong food was delivered. Then no fries, the steak was supposed to be medium but was as tough as a pair of leather boots! What a shame as the place looks quite nice for outside, but there you go, never judge a book by it's cover.

Everything amazing, food, service, price. Love coming to the castle gardens! 10/10
